1 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2024

Truck has only 70,371 mile on it and the rtm module associated with the tpms (tire pressure monitoring system) failed and must be replaced, at owners expense. The tpms is NHTSA mandated safety requirement. There should be specific published performance standards and expectations. Example: it is known the sensors themselves are battery operated and have an estimated battery life of 5-7 years. The rtm module is permanently mounted to the vehicle frame/body and should carry a reasonable published life expectancy.

2 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2023

The problem is Ford alum rim valve stems consistently leaking. I have had them replaced by Ford, and indenpendent tire dealers. Four times now. The last time had to install spare because would not hold air more than a day while driving home. Tires go low on air every week. And need tol be filled. This is a safty hazard. I'm not the only person with this issue. Ford is in several lawsuits reguarding this issue. It is either defective rim or defective valve stems. Had them replaced and resealed by Ford and in less than six months the problem comes back. I carry an air compressor to fill tires every week. Asked Ford about issue cannot get a answer except replace valve stems again. At $75. 00 per wheel time six tires about every six months. Can you please look into this. Thank you.

3 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2023

I purchased this vehicle brand new off the lot in Feb. 2018. It is a 2017. That should have been my clue. It was a good price. One week after purchase I had to have them add air to my tires as 3 out of 6 were losing air. This continued to happen frequently. They said the valve stems(tpms) that came on the wheels were oxidizing on the rims causing corrosion and they would replace them. They eventually replaced the outside 4 wheels with new factory rims. The same problem existed. It came to the point that I was afraid to travel with vehicle as I pull horses with a heavy trailer over mountains etc. . . I was afraid that the air would come out, valve stem would blow out and cause me to wreck and cause injury to myself or a vehicle next to me or my precious cargo. You can see this as I only have 23,000 miles on said vehicle. It is unsafe because of that possibility and also me having to pull over anywhere in my travels to change a tire frequently on a busy highway or mountain with a trailer attached. It still keeps happening. I have to have stems replaced again and again. It's listed on the internet and Ford truck forums, as many people are having the same issue. Why doesn't Ford care enough about people to replace these rims/wheels with an after market or safer, more reliable rims/wheels. It appears that the holes in these wheels are oblong and the 2 metals are not the same and this allows the the 2 unlike metals to come in contact causing the corrosion which causes the unreliable issue of air leaking which causes unsafe proper psi in tires which also causes instability. I do not feel safe. This truck has spent many days in the shop for this unsafe issue. I can get copies of all repairs made from dealership if needed. The date listed of incident is the last time it was taken in for wheel repairs. I picked it up last night.

4 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 08/13/2022

Traveling down the road at or around 62 -65 mph and you hit a bump truck goes into a violent shake that can only be stopped by slowing down below 40 mph. You have to immediately start slowing down, and it there is someone following that isn’t paying attention it going to get us rear ended on the highway. The truck has 54,000 miles on it. Ford should own the problem.

5 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 05/07/2022

That the intersection of 1010 and rhodes road 6204 ten-ten rd, apex, nc 27539. . I have been driving it and steady crossing my fingers hoping to god my tires don’t fly off and hurt somebody or kill somebody or me… I just can’t do it anymore, I have got to get the thing in the shop it’s got the death wobble and is just starting to scare me. . I love my truck I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt but it’s definitely got a problem I honestly think it may be several different things but at any rate it needs to be fixed.

6 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 12/27/2021

On dual rear wheel setup. Galvanic corrosion between metal valve stem and aluminum wheel caused air to leak out resulting in an unsafe condition where unequal tire pressures between the inner tire and outer tire caused unpredictable situation under normal driving condition and would have multiplied under towing condition where added weight on tire would have decreased my response time in the event of a tire failure.

7 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2021

Repeated valve stem leaks in aluminum wheels. First attempted repair on 8/14/2019 at battlefield Ford in culpeper, va (purchasing dealership). Second repair attempt on 2/10/2020 at dealership. Third attempt at repair on 2/22/2021, at this time the dealership reported to me that I now need to replace two of the wheels at my expense.

8 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2021

Two issues. First issue, cracked rim. Started losing tire pressure, leak between rim and stainless steel valve stem, had valve stem replaced with rubber valve. Lasted about a week and started losing air pressure again. Used green slime and solved the problem for about two weeks. Pressure loss was minimal, 70 psi down to 60 psi over a couple of days, would reinflate to 70 psi and would hold for a couple of days and I would just inflate back to 70 psi. Driving back from FL to nc on the 30th of Dec 2020, I experienced a loss of 20 psi in about an hours time. Pulled into rest area, reinflated tire and sprayed with windex and saw bubbles coming from a crack around the tire valve and going about 2 inches toward the inner edge of rim. Changed to spare, and made it home with no other issues. Rim is original factory aluminum rim. Dealership said truck is out of warranty. Purchased aftermarket wheels this week, did not want to replace with same model of rim. Second issue. Truck has approximately 62,000 miles. Noticed death wobble while I was having issues with above mentioned tire/rim issue and figured it was due to the imbalance of front tire that had green slime in it. Wobble happened again today after hitting pothole, was going about 50-55 mph, hit pot hole, truck started shaking, slowed down to about 30 and shaking stopped. Has happened 2 other times but those times I had the old tire/wheel set up. This latest occurrence happened with different tire/wheel setup. Have not taken to dealership because it is out of warranty and figured they would not do anything about it.

9 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2020

I purchased my 2017 Ford king ranch dually new on 5/11/18 and have been dealing with repetitive tire air pressure loss of varying rates with all six wheels as a result of corrosion between the tps valve stems and aluminum wheels. The valve stems are steel, wheels are aluminum that rapidly create corrosion where these two metals contact which results in damage to both components. Starting on 8/6/2018, 3979 miles, every wheel on this truck has been replaced or repaired due to corrosion. As of today my truck experienced nine Ford dealer repairs and #10 is scheduled for this Thursday 10/8/2020 for another tps warning. I brought my concern to my selling dealer shortly after purchase and was told they have seen the same failures on other superduty trucks but Ford will only address this condition under their warranty guidelines. They claim their hands are tied. Three Ford dealers have made the same statement. After noticing a pattern of repetitive identical failures, on 4/2/2019 at 6404 miles I contacted Ford motor company and explained my concern to a customer service associate. She generated case #cas17549134 and instructed me to continue with warranty repairs and explained someone from Ford would follow up. I never received any communication from Ford. These failures have occurred while parked at home, driving with and without a loaded truck, high and low speeds and in remote areas when we traveled around the states on vacation. Compressed air was not always available in areas of montana and oregon. A troubling statement made recently by a repairing dealer was "unfortunately you will be dealing with this as long as you own this truck" one the 9/30/20 repair I asked if Ford is doing anything to address this problem and was told no.

10 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2020

I was on the highway going aprox. 65mph when out of nowhere the truck started shaking and wobbling, I lost control of steering untill I came to a stop. I got to the side of the road and got out thinking I had a tire blowout, but there was nothing wrong with my tires. The truck has been fine since but it was very scary for this to happen.

11 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2020

I was driving on the interstate at about 70 mph when I hit a small pot hole in the road and my truck began to shake uncontrollably. The steering wheel was shaking violently and I could barely hold onto it. I had to immediately try to get out of traffic and pull off the side of the road to get it to stop.

12 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2020

Vehicle shakes violently when traveling 60mph or higher on freeways after hitting a bump in the road. Have to slow down immediately to remain in control of vehicle. Happened 6 times in last 2 weeks.

13 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 12/22/2019

I was traveling down the highway at approximately 60 mph and hit a bump. My vehicle began shaking violently. I had to abruptly decelerate down to 35 mph to get ot to stop shaking. I believe it's called a death wobble. I've had my vehicle in to the Ford dealership twice to have it fixed to no avail. I had the whole front end rebuilt. $1500 down the drain. I had a 2012 f350 that did the same thing. This wobble has happened to me many times. Most recently it happened on 12/22/2019.

14 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2019

Shaking of steering wheel this is not an isolated incident with our trucks, it's a nationwide problem that is very very dangerous. In a 10 mile ride it would happen 3-4x at 70 to 75mph hitting the slightest bump, the truck would violently shake. I would have to slow down to 20 mph for it to stop. Very difficult on a highway and unsafe.

15 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2019

Heavy vibration and shacking of steering wheel this is not an isolated incident with our trucks, it's a nationwide problem that is very very dangerous. In a 10 mile ride it would happen 3-4x at 70 to 75mph hitting the slightest bump, the truck would violently shake. I would have to slow down to 20 mph for it to stop. Very difficult on a highway.

16 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2019

At 400 miles driving down the freeway the truck started shaking as if the front wheels were coming off, the dealership told us it must be a bad road, same thing when it happened at 7,000 miles and at 22,000 miles. At 35000 miles we took it to a different dealer and they kept the truck for well over a month, to fix it. Now at 39000 it still has the same problem, it happens randomly, and we are taking it back in tomorrow to be looked at. Now that I bought my wife a truck that is well over $70,000 she no longer feels safe to drive it because it is so scary to drive wile the front tires shake like they are falling off. In southern California traffic, she feels like she could kill someone simply by losing control when that happens. I have purchased countless Ford automobiles and paid off many Ford credit auto loans, and we have never had any compliants, never had any issues, we maintain our vehicle with the Ford maintenance contract, we carry a Ford esp warranty on all of our Fords and we are very meticulous in taking care of our vehicles. . . At this point we want a new truck, and we do not feel that we should have to take the depreciation simply based on these problems. We also want our Ford esp and maintenance contract to be on the new truck, just as we have on this truck.

17 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2019

At 35000 miles on my 2017 f350 I started getting wobble/vibrations at highway after going over bumps. Talked to Ford dealer and said the is a TSB but parts were two weeks out. Went back and parts were 6 weeks out for a total of 8 weeks. Problem has gotten worse. Last time on interstate I got what I would call death wobble. I had to hit brakes hard to control in heavy traffic. Wobble didn't stop till I slowed from 75 to under 50mph. Truck is stock with stock tire rims. No aftermarket parts. This is a serious safety issue and will end causes wreck or a death.

18 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 11/28/2019

My 2017 f350 has 15,000 miles on it and has experienced extreme death wobble at least 10 times. If you are going over 70 on the turnpike and hit a bump this happens. You need to make Ford recall this before people die. My truck is 100 percent stock except for a rear sway bar I added, and has never been off road. It happened 9-28-19 3 times but has done this before. I have an appointment to have it fixed 12-19-19, but from what I have read Fords fixes do not really fix the problem. Please make Ford recall this before people start dying on the highways.

19 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2019

Bought my Ford f 350 XLT in Feb of 2019 with 12,936 miles on it from rochester Ford in mn driving home on the interstate at about 70 mph it did the death wobble 3 times and I called them and they acted like they had never heard of it. Couldn't get it into the shop until a couple weeks later at bedford Ford in bedford indiana where they replaced the steering dampener. Hadn't happened again until Nov 26, 2019. Made an appt. At bedford in Ford dealership and they said it was the tires and needed an alignment and new tires. Mileage is less than 24,000 miles on it. So the problem is still not fixed and they are just pushing me away and blaming the tires.

20 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2019

While driving highway-speed about 65 mph, the truck hits a grove in the highway road and started to shake violently and uncontrollable. I slowed down while trying to keep the truck in one lane and it stopped the bucking/wobble action when the speed was reduced to 20 mph. This has happened twice in the past week and vehicle is scheduled to be looked at in the service center.

21 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 09/18/2019

2017 vehicle with 26,000 miles. Outside drw wheels, both passenger and driver side have presented corrosion and are losing air pressure stationary and in motion due to incompatible metals on rim and valve stem. Recall needs to be enacted and rims need to be replaced.

22 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2019

I had a continual lost of air pressure in one of my tires during the removal of the original equipment tire at discount tires the manager informed me that the chrome was flaking off on the inside of the rims where the tire seals to the rim a possible manufacture defect that could cause poor seal and deflation of my tires or worst. If not for the nail puncturing my tire I would not have found the defect in the manufacturing of the 4 rims on my truck. Because the one tire was not repairable I had to buy 4 new tires that how I found that all 4 of the rims had the same defect. My concern is my truck safe to drive on these 4 rims or could I have a tire failure because of a lost of tire seal from the chrome flaking off inside the rims. I do have picture.

23 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 06/13/2019

Tire valve stems are leaking repeatedly, new valve stems will start leaking sometimes the next day. While the dealer is replacing the stems under warranty (bumper to bumper) this is causing a dangerous condition. 25% of air can be lossed overnight. It seems like the manufacturer is trying to run out the warranty and leave consumers with the price of the stems afterward. In 15,000 miles, one of the wheels on the truck has had 4 stems put in.

24 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2019

Steel valve stem in aluminum wheels develops corrosion around valve stem hole and air leaks develop. Steel wheels are fine leaks have only developed on the 4 aluminum wheels. (truck is a dually).

25 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2019

Air leaking from tire valve stems. I have had to take the truck to the dealer several times for the same issue.

26 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2019

At 39000 miles developed a massive front wheel shake at highway speeds on rough roads. Rotated tires and balanced. No change. Replace all tires with same as came with. Death wobble was gone for 4000 miles has now returned.

27 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 04/06/2019

While driving on the highway about 50mph I passed over a small bump (roadway to overpass) in the road. The front end of my truck began to shake violently. I had to pull over to the side of the road and stop to get it to stop shaking. This has happened a few times in the past but the shaking has not been as violent and has stopped when letting off the throttle (not this time). This seems to be getting worse. My truck has 11,450 miles.

28 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2019

Hauling horse trailer with 4 horses, hit a bump in road and vehicle began shaking and almost lost control on a 5 lane highway thru slc ut. Also learned after the fact Ford death wobble.

29 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2019

While traveling at approximately 65mph truck developed a high speed wobble. Wife was driving at the time and was barely able to get the truck stopped without losing control. The truck that has 26000 miles on it had no payload shook so hard that my wife was unable to hold on to the steering wheel and had to apply the brakes to get it stopped while trying to stay in her lane and on the road.

30 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2019

Tires not holding air pressure. Seeing this on the pass side front wheel/tire, and the outer pass wheel/tire of the rear dually. Research indicates this could be due to corrosion caused by the steel valve stem and the aluminum wheel. This is a hazard particularly due to the fact this vehicle is built for heavy duty towing and tires must maintain proper air pressure. Tires are losing approx. 10psi weekly. Ford should recall these vehicles and repair/replace the valve stem assembly to prevent tire pressure loss. Numerous complaints of same can be found by researching internet sources. The vehicle only has 13,500 miles on it.

31 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 03/18/2019

While driving at normal highway speeds (65) an extreme wobble developed in front steering and suspension. Steering wheel deflection was around 30 degrees side to side from top center. A fifth wheel travel trailer was being towed and the wobble resulted in departure from travel lane; however, no accident occurred. Speed was reduced to 20 mph before wobble ceased and trailer brakes we the only effective thing to straighten truck. Application of truck brakes seemed to worsen the wobble. Volumes of information exist on this issue labeled as death wobble. https://m. Youtube. Com/watch?v=4jv7l8bbo1q https://m. Youtube. Com/watch?v=8euq6f8rgt4 vehicle is at purchasing dealer for repair. I am happy to speak with NHTSA if deemed appropriate.

32 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2019

Problem # 1 vehicle shakes violently while in motion when it hits a small bump or pothole. It has happened few time in the last couple weeks, on 2/15/2019 while driving at about 60 mhm the vehicle hit a small bump and the vehicle from suspension started to shake so violently that I almost lost control of it. I had to apply brakes and reduce speed by 50% to stop the shaking. Problem 2. Front air monitoring system failure. It all the sudden started to give wrong readings in both front tires.

33 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2019

Truck shaking, was told tire inflation was not being maintained. All valve stems leaking since day I bought it. One tire had fix a flat in it when I bought it. It took Ford 6 months to replace valve stems correctly. After this truck still shakes on any rough road, if hit any real ruff truck violent shake have to stop to get it to stop. Now since tire pressure can be maintained since valove stems fixed. They tell me front tires need replaced from not maintaining tire pressures. That is why truck shakes. The truck has shakenough since the first month I owned it it March 2018, this has caused front tires to were on both outside edges. The truck shakes so bad, I have ran off 7 times, ran two other cars off road, and pulled over for suspected dui told officer what happened and if I didn't get it fixed he write me ticket defective equipment and deem vehicle unsafe to operate. Always in motion, any speed, any ruff road, even going across briggs anything that is not perfect smooth road.

34 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2019

~tl the contact owns a 2017 Ford F-350. The contact stated that the tires were losing air pressure and the low tire pressure indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to robinson brothers Ford (11455 airline hwy, baton rouge, la 70816, (855) 493-1385), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 27,000. The VIN was not available.

35 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2019

My vehicle aluminum rims all corroded around the valve stem causing them to loose air. Ford replaced all the rims at 10,000 miles. They told me they were aware of the problem and had corrected it. At 39,500 miles the new rims did the same thing corroding around the valve stem causing the air to leak out. The problem was not corrected. Ford agreed the rims were defective and would only replace them if I paid over half of the new cost. I am always fearful that the tires will loose air at high speed and cause a crash.
