The driver reported an intermittent burnt oil smell from rear of truck. We found the axle leaking gear oil, with gear oil soaking the brake pads and pooling in the wheel. Took to Ford dealer, where it was confirmed by the dealer and repaired under warranty.

Picked up the brand new f650 rollback tow truck from the dealer in ohio. Traveling back to California with a chevy yukon 2wd on the bed. Approx 200 miles from the dealer the "service advance trac warning appeared on the dash. The traction yellow light and wrench appeared on the dash. I was traveling down the highway. I called my dealer in California to ask what might be wrong. My dealer told me Ford was having a problem with the system and do not have a solution at the present time. However it should not be a performance issue. Continued on with the vehicle. As it turns out not only is it a performance issue its also a major safety issue. First noticed that when pulling away from a stop light vehicle struggled to get moving. Driving on flat ground the vehicle would get up to speed but slowly. The real danger is when braking. After you touch the brakes there is no throttle response to get going again. The accelerator was as good as dead. This happened at 76 miles per hour on the highway. Coming down a mountain at 76 in the number 1 lane. Loaded semi truck behind me speed limit 80 . At bottom highway sweeps left as goes back up hill. I had to press the brake due to a slower vehicle in front of me, I pressed the accelerator and no response. Continued no response as the semi behind me was locking up his brakes to avoid rear rending me. Vehicle reduced speed to 40mph still no response. I darted across the other lanes to shoulder of the road. No response from accelerator. Turned truck off and restarted. Truck sluggishly moved and got up to speed. This was a extremely dangerous situation. My solution to getting truck to California. If I could engage the cruise control when the truck hit 32 mph I could drive truck with the cruise control using the + and - for speed. This would work. However if you hit the brake. Game over. No throttle response. This is the most dangerous truck I have ever driven.
Driver reported an intermittent odor of burning oil or hot brakes from rear wheels. Found rear axle wheel seal leaking gear oil; brake pads soaked, and gear oil pooling in wheel. This could compromise braking, and neglecting the leak would cause damage to the rear differential or cause the rear differential to lock up. Took to Ford dealer, who confirmed wheel seal leak & also found leaking pinion seal on steering. Repaired under warranty.

Davidrpaton@aol. Com (440) 725-8249 david r. Paton . . . I am an asq certified quality technician employed as a quality torque tech at detroit chassis of 1220 chester industrial parkway in avon, ohio. . . I have been placed on fully-paid administrative leave while a transfer of ownership occurs and then I will not be hired in to the new owners even though our unionization effort has been approved and is in its incipient phase. Detroit chassis & comprehensive logistics run the facility and have deliberately shipped out unsafe product (tires & axles) to be placed on huge Ford f650 and f750 trucks. This facility is on Ford's "worst supplier list" already so I MA not just some disgruntled employee with an axe to grind. . . . Also, the fact that what can be completely corroborated through Ford's own internal documentation and internal documentation of cli & dcp obviates consideration of me being a disgruntled employee. The documentation says the same thing no matter who tells you about it. . . We are going to kill someone; we already came close when one of our huge trucks seized up on a California highway (missing inner axle bearing) after logging only 80 or 85 miles on the vehicle's odometer. . We have knowingly shipped out tires that our quality control procedure says should be scrapped. . . We have an axle out there that did not have a lock nut washer bent which maintains a required linear distance between the inner nut and outer nut; the inner nut will migrate outward and will take the inner bearing with it and the wheel will actually move outward to the point where the weight of the truck will then snap the axle. . . Ford has caught us phony-ing up documentations and investigations but since we're the only game in town that supplies axles & tires their quality function gets ovveruled by Ford purchasing. . No one has been disciplined or fired . . Except me and I'm collecting full pay.
