36 Body problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2015

Rear passaged door will not latch, called Ford they would not talk about the issue when I advised I just read this complaint is currently be investigated. Why won't they admit the issue and recall the problem before somebody (normally a child is in the back seat) is killed due to falling out. This car is used by my 20 year old daughter who has a 3 month old daughter that rides back there. I am going to have the problem repaired for the safety of my grandchild. I will seek legal representation to have the issue addressed. Due to the mass volume of complaints is seems Ford would be forced to a recall.

37 Body problem

Failure Date: 03/30/2015

Dropped off passenger in her driveway from front passenger seat. We both got out of car. When I returned to car I fastened seat belt. Turned on ignition switch and 'open door' signal came on for passenger door. I got out of car, shut passenger front door and it did latch properly, got back into drivers seat and drove down her street. Stopped at stop sign and signaled to make left hand turn into a four lane parkway. Pulled out veering left to reach proper lane as passenger door flew open, which tripped red open door warning light and the audio warning. Startled the bejesus out of me. I had to carefully cross all lanes to pull off roadway to right side shoulder to keep the opened right side front door from being hit by other cars. Problem was sudden onset and I had never had a problem with warning lights or latch before 10/30/15, and I am the only owner car has had.

38 Body problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2015

Right rear door latch failed, unable to keep door closed, unable to recluse or latch door.

39 Body problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2015

When attempting to close rear passenger side door on 2011 Ford Fiesta, the door failed to latch and would not remain closed. Upon closer inspection, the latching mechanism in the door would not remain in the latched position and would fall open under its own weight.

40 Body problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2015

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fiesta. The contact stated that while driving at 40 mph, the front passenger door swung open when it was leaned on by the passenger. The door ajar warning light illuminated. The contact mentioned that the door crashed into an electrical pole, a mail box, and storm drain marker. The VIN was included in the NHTSA campaign number: 15v246000 (latches/locks/linkages). The contact mentioned that the vehicle was taken to the dealer prior to the failure and was told by the dealer that the vehicle would not be repaired until the failure was experienced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and wanted the contact to sign an agreement form that would require the contact to release Ford from any claims and actions, present or in the future from any issues, suspected or unsuspected, before repairing the vehicle. The failure mileage was 94,721.

41 Body problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2015

42 Body problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2015

I live on the island of st, croix, us virgin islands. On Saturday February 21, 2015 after driving the car for several errands, I returned home and opened the rear passenger side door to take out some items. When I closed the door it would not stay closed. It seems as if the latch will not stay shut. I will contact the dealer on Monday.

43 Body problem

Failure Date: 02/12/2015

I put my baby into her car seat, closed the back passenger door, and started driving when the "door ajar" warning light on the dash appeared. I immediately stopped and saw that the back passenger door was ajar. Her door would not stay closed. Nothing I attempted would fix it. The car was never damaged, and the broken door received barely any use, as she is under six months old. I had to tie a swaddle blanket to the handle and hold on while driving us home. I immediately called the dealership where we had purchased the car (Ford akins) and was told that there were no recalls, despite the fact that there is an ongoing investigation, and that we would be charged to fix a glaring safety issue even though we had purchased the extended warranty and the car was exactly four years old. I was also told that they would have to order the part, and am now left waiting with my baby in the back of a car with a door that is duct taped closed. I consider this to be an extremely serious safety complaint, and don't trust that another door won't fly open while driving.

44 Body problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2015

My wife drives this car almost exclusively to work and rarely with a passenger. This day, I was the passenger and as we were leaving a friends house, I carried out a bag and opened the rear passenger side door, put the bag on the seat, and closed the door in a normal fashion. To my surprise, the door bounced back open. I inspected the door frame, expecting to find a seatbelt or similar preventing closure but there was nothing. I jiggled the handle and attempted to close the door again. It bounced. I then actuated the inside door handle and tried again. Bounced. I cycled the child locks. Bounced. Then I inspected the mechanism that is designed to catch the door closed and found it could be moved freely with my finger or a device like a key. There was no mechanical resistance or "click" or any other indication that it would hold the door closed. I went to the driver side rear door and compared its closure mechanism to the passenger side door and found this device could not be easily moved. A quick google search found many similar problems documented with the only resolution being repair by Ford. We were forced to drive home with the rear doors tied together to hold the passenger door shut. I made an appointment with mullinax Ford who stated it was not under warranty or recall, even though online documentation suggests there is a federal investigation ongoing with this problem. The repair bill was $400+ dollars. I consider this to be a serious safety concern. I have no doubt it could have happened while the vehicle was in motion, potentially with back seat passengers.

45 Body problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2015

I unlocked the car and the driver's door latch closed to the locked position when door was still open. Now unable to close that door. Same thing then happened to left rear door. Using in-car locking button doesn't do anything, neither does key fob. In both cases locking/unlocking sounds occur, but latch on open doors does not move. Warming up car in garage did not help. The same car randomly locked the driver's door when I had motor on scraping ice off windshield approximately one month ago.

46 Body problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

Driver's side passenger door came open during driving. Door latch will not keep door closed. Have to tie together doors to keep them shut. Major safety issue.

47 Body problem

Failure Date: 01/07/2015

Me and my children were at the mall and when we went to the car we discovered the driver's rear door was damaged. The door would not close completely and posed a threat to my children's safety. I paid $144. 00 for the latch piece that seemed to be the problem. And another $128. 00 to get it installed at my dealer. I use the highway to get home usually and I am afraid that any other one of the doors might open on their own while I'm getting home or while I'm driving with my children.

48 Body problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2014

Car right rear door which is not used very often will not stay in shut position. It is now tied shut and this is a safety issue. It appears the door latch is broken.

49 Body problem

Failure Date: 12/18/2014

The left rear door latch failed upon closing the door and bounced back rather than locking in. The door from then on could never be closed and had to be duck taped to ensure it would not open upon driving the vehicle. While driving the vehicle, the main dash board would constantly notify the driver that the door was still open and the ceiling lights would stay on while driving.

50 Body problem

Failure Date: 12/13/2014

I was rear ended by a Ford f350 so hard that I hit the car in front of me, a Honda accord. The back of my 2011 Ford Fiesta is smashed in and the front of the car, is smashed in. The back window is scattered, the sunroof slider fell back into the car, the front right wheel (passenger side) is bent, and the car does not turn on. I understand in rear end crashes the air bags usually do not go off, but when I hit the car in front of me, the air bags should have gone off.

51 Body problem

Failure Date: 11/23/2014

Passenger side back door latch wont close. Door will not close. Latch won't engage.

52 Body problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2014

I tried to close the rear passenger door, but the door would not latch. I could not see a problem and tried to close the door several more times unsuccessfully. I had to use the seat belt to tie the door closed so that I could drive home. Unfortunately, that was 215 miles away. The door ajar light stayed on and the rear seat dome light stayed on the entire trip. Once home, I had to disconnect the battery to prevent it from being drained. I will be calling my local Ford dealer from which I bought the car 4 years ago tomorrow morning.

53 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/28/2014

Rear passenger door latch broken, door will not stay closed.

54 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2014

No issues with door upon first entering passenger side. Got out of vehicle and proceeded to close the door but door wouldn't latch shut. Door bounced back and I thought something was preventing the door from fully closing but nothing was obstructing the door. Had to physically hold the door closed while we drove to the dealership. Service department did not have the part available and told us it would be approximately 2 weeks to get it in with a charge of over $300. Vehicle is no longer under warranty. No previous accidents. Drove the car home with my daughter holding the door shut. Luckily the car door didn't srping open while we were driving. Door malfunctioned less than 10 minutes after we left the house.

55 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2014

While out shopping on the night of oct. 8, 2014 with my pregnant step daughter we returned to the vehicle to find that the passenger rear door failed to latch. I was unable to get it to latch properly. I was able to hold the door mostly closed with the seat belt, but every time I made a left turn the interior light would come on and door ajar warning message would come on and stay on. I am only able to use the car with the rear doors strapped to each other.

56 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2014

Woke up one morning, went to go put some stuff in back seat of my car. Shut the door and noticed it popped right back. Tried again and kept popping back. Has not closed since. Took to Ford and said my latch broke and that it would be almost $500 in service and parts.

57 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/19/2014

The rear left passenger door won't latch. Door flies open.

58 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2014

We have recently encountered driver-side open door alarm that doesn't go away. The door doesn't latch all the time either.

59 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2014

I was driving my 2011 Ford Fiesta going about 45 miles an hour and the right rear door swung open when I hit a curve in the road. I pulled over to see what happened and realized that the door would not close (latch). My son was with me in the front seat and he had to sit in the back and hold the door until we could drive home about 2 miles away. Thank god this did not happen with my young daughter in the back seat going down the freeway. I took the car to the dealer the next day and luckily I had bought the extended warranty on the car. How is this not a recall issue? looks like this is happening around the country with this car. This is a major safety issue.

60 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/03/2014

I was parked that day and sat my daughter in the back seat but as I closed the passenger door, it did not latch so I was forced to tie the seatbelt to the door to avoid accidentally opening while driving on the freeway. Also, when parked at home, I am forced to unlpug the battery or it will discharge.

61 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2014

On separate occasions both rear door latches failed to engage. This occurred after opening the rear door and then attempting to close the door. On both occasions the doors failed to latch. The doors are currently held shut with cargo straps as I have not been able to get the doors to latch. On both occasions the car was in park. At this time I am unable to use the rear passenger compartment.

62 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2014

Rear passenger door will not latch. It has been working just fine for 2 years. Then tonight leaving school to go home for work in the morning. The door was discovered to be open, and apparently will not latch. I will have to wait till morning time, tie the door short with ropes and limp home with it.

63 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/28/2014

As I started to drive away my passenger door came open on a left hand curve, I immediately got out to see what the problem one as maybe the seatbelt was preventing closure. However, upon observation of the passenger door, I noticed the latching mechanism that is supposed to attach the door to the body, was no longer functional, it had lost all tension and was loose inside the door. I very rarely have passengers in this car, so frequent use could not be an excuse for this malfunction.

64 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2014

While driving on the freeway at about 55 to 60 mph the back passenger door on the drivers side opened for no reason. It would not shut and had to pull to the side of the road in heavy traffic because the door would not latch. Upon inspection it appears the door latch broke while the door was shut and the car was in motion. This created a very dangerous situation with a car door opening on its own, especially in that kind of traffic. Ford does not seem to care too much about this problem and will fix the vehicle for charge. Hopefully something will be done before this problem causes injury or death.

Door lock assembly safety issue, door latch fails and door stays open: I went to close right rear door of Fiesta. No problem warning until that moment. It would not stay shut. Door lock assembly went bad. Took to visalia Ford in visalia, CA, appointment that afternoon. Service writers said that was the 4-5th Fiesta/ focus with this problem lately and that they were waiting 2-3 weeks on back order for the same parts for the previously known vehicles. This small town dealer was waiting 2-3 weeks on back order to fix this in 4-5 other Fiesta/focus. I had to order and pay for parts so they would be ordered. Upon my going home, after cinching up the door again, I called the number for Ford west representative. I had "direct #" ([xxx]) from previous incident not related to this door. The phone was answered by a different person, who said she was in that position now and that I was in error calling her instead of Ford customer service. Her info: "[xxx] (866) 631-3788 [xxx]. I then tried to explain the situation about the 4-5 Fiesta/focus waiting at this small dealership and this could not be happening just in visalia, CA. I asked about safety recalls by Ford; she blew me off saying I was wrong. I told her to call visalia Ford I gave her their #. Her concession was that she would try to expedite the parts to visalia Ford, and call me a week later, on the next Tuesday (9/30/14), to check on progress. She never called again. I received call that parts were in on 9/26/14, had the repair done on 9/29/14, which was the next day service department was open. The concern I have on this problem is that some child or other back seat rider who is not belted in is going to have the door open and fall out, I would guess this will happen to any of the doors. If I was driving and a door suddenly opened for no reason due to the latch failure, I may freak or swerve or worse. Thanx information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

66 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2014

Opened back passenger door to place groceries and door latch will not stay closed. Had to drive home with passenger holding door closed. Took the car to Ford dealership and they said they are unable to fix it.

67 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2014

My back passenger door latch does not work at all. If the door is not constrained the door will open at any speed. . . Unsafe and unfit for any back seat passengers.

68 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2014

While leaving a parking lot after loading camera equipment and groceries into the rear backseat from the rear passenger side door I pulled out onto the main road and as I turned left into the u-turn, my rear passenger door swung open releasing my equipment and some of the groceries out into the road. Thankfully no one was following close and I was able to pull aside and pick up my belongings. Thinking I had not shut the door all the way I shut the door to only hear an empty "thunk" and the door bounced back. I attempted to resolve the issue in a variety of ways to no success and my final solution was to use a ratchet strap to secure the door shut. It was only upon researching how to fix this that I realized I could post here. Thankfully my equipment and groceries were relatively undamaged given the lower speed of the incident but if anyone had been in the backseat this could have been extremely dangerous. The oddest part of this is that I utilize this car mostly solo so if I ever do access the backseat its typically from the driver side rear door which I have had no issue with.

69 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2014

Passenger rear door will not latch. Door just bounces back when slammed shut. The latch mechanism has failed in the open position. The door will not shut and is currently tied back from the inside. . Read more...

70 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/08/2014

Rear door will not stay closed. . . . Don't know how the nhtsi can let this happen. When I was at the dealer one of the employees mentioned that they get this complaint at least three or four times a day. Looking through the complaint board I see it comes up frequently!! parts are on back order and we have to pay for the repair.
