I am reporting a serious mechanical and safety issue involving my 2011 Ford Fiesta. After receiving a partially state-funded engine replacement in June 2025, my vehicle began experiencing serious transmission problems shortly after. Within a month, it went into limp mode multiple times, and warning lights appeared: the wrench light, incline warning, and “transmission malfunction – service now” messages. A diagnostic scan revealed multiple dtcs related to the transmission control module (tcm), input/output shaft speed sensors, and clutch a disengagement (p286f) — which I understand are linked to known issues with this model’s transmission. These failures make the car dangerous to drive. The vehicle has lost power unexpectedly, putting me at risk of an accident. I’ve also been told by the repair shop that I may now need a new transmission and/or tcm, despite just receiving a major engine repair. I am unable to afford another large repair and this situation has severely impacted my ability to travel safely. I am requesting an investigation into the Ford Fiesta’s transmission problems and to confirm whether this should have been covered by a recall or warranty extension. I want to also add that my transmission clutch was repaired by Ford only 2 years ago. Please advise if this falls under known manufacturer defects or safety bulletins, and whether Ford motor company can be held responsible for the faulty transmission and associated safety risks.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fiesta. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where the battery was replaced. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle hesitated to respond and sputtered. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle the following day, the vehicle failed to start and was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The mechanic related the failure to the transmission. The contact was referred to the dealer for an unknown recall repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the dealer for the tcm to be replaced under Ford campaign number: 14m02. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where the tcm was replaced; however, the dealer informed the contact that the tcm could not be programmed to the transmission clutch. The dealer determined that the transmission clutch needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.
The car hasn’t been sold since 2021 and I was told there where no issues with the car but it was sold as is it doesn’t start needs a new modem head gaskets maybe and it’s a lot that needs repairing.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fiesta. The contact stated while driving at approximately 65 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the engine malfunction, abs, and hill assist warning lights were illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed; however, the contact was unaware of the diagnostic result. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken back to the same mechanic who again diagnosed the vehicle and informed the contact that the vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred, and the vehicle was taken to a local dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the throttle body, engine electrical harness, and engine mounts needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the failure had reoccurred, and the vehicle stalled with white smoke coming from the exhaust pipes. The contact had not taken the vehicle back to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 144,000.
On 4 Nov 22 the engine started shifting abruptly when accelerating - automatic transmission. Vehicle would not reverse while in r on the handle. Check engine light icon appears on dash panel. Unable to go beyond low speeds on road, causing safety hazard.

My vehicle began to feel like driving a boat. It was shuddering and driving roughly. My vehicle was repaired by a recall that I believe reprogrammed the tcm, 14m02tsb 16-0129 was done yesterday. Although I can feel some improvement in the 35 mi drive home, it still shudders and feels the same. This did not fix the problem. My boyfriend researched through various service bulletins and found 14m01. He then jacked up the car, removed the tire to get a better look and saw the leak. It does not leak enough to leave noticeable marks on driveway but is leaking. When I called, I was told that my vehicle was no longer covered as I am just outside of this warranty since I have slightly over 127797 miles and this ended at 100,000 or 10 years. My car is a 2011. If I had been aware of this problem, it would have been fixed during that time. Since there was no code or warning and no visible evidence of the leakage, I was unaware. The dealer who reprogrammed the tcm was unaware, there are no codes relating to this issue on the car. They only code I now have is an oxygen sensor or something code that showed up after they reprogrammed the tcm. I believe Ford should extend this warranty for these effected cars, there are many with this problem, we have researched through the complaints. I want Ford to cover the costs of parts, labor and any costs related to the repair of this problem that they were fully aware of. I know they say the 2 bulletins are not related but I feel that they are.
I have had the tcm on this vehicle replaced twice after transmission malfunction light suddenly came on. It came on a third time and the issue still causes transmission malfunction indicator to illuminate, however this time it is my dual clutch. Same symptoms in the vehicle every time. With no warning, the vehicle will suddenly lose power, fail to change gears, shutter forward after stopping, come to a complete stop in the middle of driving. Two days ago driving uphill, my vehicle, with no warning at all, started going in reverse, down the hill. I am in the middle of a class action suit with Ford that is taking forever to settle. I have tried to get Ford to replace my clutch, but they claim it is not part of the extended warranty like the tcm is now, even though it causes the same issues with the vehicle. I can pay to have it fixed myself, but it can go out at any given time again, with no warning. Ford does not believe these issues are safety issues. They are. These cars do these things suddenly. As I am reaching out to Ford about this, they do however inform me that there is a recall on my door latches. They consider this a safety issue, but not the transmission? unbelievable.
The vehicle was in motion on a highway and the engine light appear, and at the same time the the transmission control module failed. I took the car to the Ford dealership in bronx and they told I have a clutch problem, plus transmission control module problem. They told me they dont cover the recall, according the warranty department because the damage is internal. But the recall for Ford Fiesta 2011 existing because of transportation fail. Can you tell me for sure why they don't approve and if is a company mistake they should buy your car or to replace it?.
In 2019 the Ford Fiesta refused to crank, key in the ignition the cars dash would light up, but the only sound produced was a small tick. After several unsuccessful visits to the mechanic, we finally took it to the Ford dealership and it was discovered that the tcm needed to be reprogrammed or replaced, after getting it replaced, for no charge, we no longer experienced the cranking issue. Apparently, the Ford dealership was aware of the recall but this information was left out upon purchase from carmax. This information was not listed on this site either. I'm reporting this issue so that the next owner of the vehicle won't be surprised and devastated like we were.
Tl- the contact owns 2011 Ford Fiesta. While driving at 50 mph the vehicle gear shifted to first gear as the contact foot was depressed on the accelerator paddle. The warning lights illuminated. 1: the door latch for the hatch doesn’t always latch and will come back open. 2: when driving after stopping the car “shutters and lags” on take off.
The vehicle does not downshift. It is an automatic but I have to shift into neutral between gears as well as when I need to slow down. I have had several instances of a car in front of me braking unexpectedly and I must put the car into neutral and it continues revving at a high speed so I throw it in neutral. I could run into the car in front of me unless I slam very hard on the brake or put into neutral. The car does not shift into a higher gear automatically either. Also, I must pump the brake for a minute or two before the car will start.
Takata recall, my car keeps jerking and stuttering to go I've had this car for about four about 4 years , I've took it to the shop about 5 times the workers told me there wasn't anything the could do after I kept taking it because the dual clutch would keep messing up yesterday while driving on the high way my car stayed at 30 mph it then started smoking so I had to pull over I then stopped my car and then my car would not start up until this day now I am stuck with a car note with no car.
Upon shifting into neutral and or just engaging the clutch the engine will shut off, usually as I approach a stop light or am in a parking lot. Sometimes it is a rough stop like the transmission was not fully disengaged, but most often it is smooth as if turning of the car with the key. The silent shut down occurs both while the vehicle is in motion, any where from 1-70 mph, and when a complete stop has been reached. I have had this happen at least two dozen times in the 2. 5 years I have driven this car. Approximately, 80% of the time it is the 'silent shut down', where I do not even notice the car is not running until I put the car back into gear and try to accelerate. I have almost been rear ended at stop lights in traffic several times because of this issue. This issue has occurred at all times of the year with the air conditioner both on and off, but it is much more prevalent in the warm weather with the air conditioner running. In the past week it has happened 3 times all of which were with the air on, and the engine silently shut down.
The engine malfunction service light came on and the sorry bottle position sensor keeps on saying it's spelt faulty, but when I replaced the throttle body and replaced the gas pedal it was still having issues, and now I'm barely getting to and from work anymore or anywhere else, even down the street because it continues to put itself in safe mode. So I am out for a thought of body and a gas pedal, and it's still not fixed the issue.
2/4/15, dickinson CO. Kansas, collision with fixed object, left turn, impact to passenger front corner, ran off right side of the road, struck fixe object, damage to both passenger front corner/quarter of car. 10/11/16, jackson CO, missouri, moving in transport collision, impact rear of car, towing indicator, driver front and passenger airbags deployed. 2 accidents: former owner, not me. Transmission, jerks back and forth 24/7, going to, from street lights, intersections, like wants to die on normal straight street and on hills. The car rolls back on hills by itself. Lack of acceleration speed from brakes to gas pedal. The 10/8/2018 phone call mike from florida, Ford, tranmission settlement phone call said "transmission is the Ford flaw". I went to the blue springs, mo, independence, mo, dealerships 4 times from March 13, 2017, July 4, 2018: battery fuse box recall. Passenger door flew open/door latch recall, sept. 24, 2018, the blue springs, mo, dealership did not fix the tranmission, under 100,000 mile warrenty. The air conditioning compressor broke and it is not working from sept. , 24, 2018, the cost to fix is $2,172, they charged $99. 50 diagnostic, did not fix the air conditioning. The defroster is not working since oct. 10, 2018, it is connected to the compressor, when turned on the defroster makes a crank noise in the engine. The heater system has a weird crank noise when turned to low, high, does not work either. The bbb autoline closed my lemon law complaint case number frd1825535 case, did not help me, because they limit cases to 36,000 miles. The vehicle is a life hazard 24/7. My car is 82,130 miles. I can not drive this non-reliable car.
Transmission shudders when accelerating.
Issues involving class action lawsuit.
Takata recall , I have a 2011 Ford Fiesta and the engine got messed up so I took it to a shop and they fixed it I paid 2,500 to get it fixed and when I'm driving my wheels go all crazy and all this sensors turn on and my door open last time with my 2 year old and my 6 year old inside and now it won't close.
There was a transmission failure, electrical problems, and brake problems. The engine dies while driving. Although seven years old, it has less than 40,000 miles on it from it being worked on constantly. It is useless as a vehicle.
The vehicle was purchased brand new. We have already taken it to Ford repair shops a number of times for replacement parts, repairs, recalls, etc. Recently, the vehicle would not start (among other continuing problems with shaking while braking, jerking when shifting gears--both of which we've already had worked on several times) so we had it taken to a Ford dealer near where we live. We found out the problem is with the transmission control module. It turns out that Ford has a csp for this problem. However, we did not know about it and by the time we started having problems, we were past the mileage for the warranty coverage. I am extremely displeased with this vehicle and the customer service we have received. I believe it is bias and discriminatory to repair problems you know about only if they are on vehicles with mileage under 150,000. If there is a known problem. Ford should fix it and fix it for everyone, not just people who do not drive their vehicle frequently. This car has had known transmission problems and numerous recalls already. The problem is, every time we have it worked on, it never fixes it completely.
The car stays on after the car is turned off and the key is removed from the ignition. The car eventually turns off on its own.
Ive taken my car to the dealership around 4 times for the same problem. The fourth being the worst. The car will shudder, shake, over rev, low power when taking off and lack of powersteering and brakes. Its had its tcm reprogrammed to no avail! clutch has been replaced to no avail. Third time it stared again and had to get the car reprogrammed again. The last time the car would not drive over 30 mph without shaking shuddering and trying to find the right gear. Couple of times the car stopped while driving!! dealership replaced the tcm . On about the fourth time in. My wife drives our kids to school in this car and I have not confidence in its ability to sustain and deliver my family safely to their destinatation. Im currently making payments and have also tried to talk to Ford about a buy back or replacement and they said I don't meet or qualify for the California lemon law. They had pulled my records at the dealership to verify the car status. All actions that the car displayed and others have encountered have happened when pulling away to accelerate. A couple of my complaints on the service record was not recorded. I think the first and the last ones were however.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fiesta. While driving 30 mph, the transmission slipped out of gear and the shift lever locked into position and would not move. The check engine, service engine soon, and traction control warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed, but there were no failure codes. The failure recurred twice. The failure mileage was 91,147.
"takata recall had the vehicle approximately one week purchased from a private. I stopped at a stop sign and car died on me and left me stranded at a 4 way stop. I tried to get vehicle started and it started briefly and died on me. I was frantic as I am an older lady with my grandchild that was scared to death. I was pushed off the road by a concerned citizen who helped us push 2011 Ford Fiesta off the road. I had the unit towed and had motor replaced. The car still will not run and I have gone through all my saving on this piece of junk. It is now at a Ford dealership and they still are scratching their head and cannot fix unit. It is located at halliday Ford Lincoln incorporated, 1700 columbus Ave, washington court house, ohio, 43160, telephone 800-358-3673.
My car had the transmission control module reprogrammed on 06/06/16 and is having the same issue as we speak 8/24/16. The car jerks, doesn't accelerate properly and is doing what it wants, very unsafe as it doesn't want to shift and jolts when it does. It's almost like its stuck in gear. This car has been nothing but problems and I'm irritated that this was repaired 2 months ago and the problem clearly isn't fixed. I'm pregnant and am very dissapointed that Ford can allow a problem like this to continue without proper resolution and safety for its customers.
Purchased 02/26/16 since purchase breaks have locked up 7 times, took to original dealer of purchase 8 times in first two months of purchase by the time they get car they find nothing wrong taken to Ford dealership 3 times they replaced censor states it will fix problem and has not have almost gotten in several accidents because breaks lock up and prevent car from going forward and unable to move.
The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fiesta. While driving 60 mph, the speed decreased to 40 mph without warning. The accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate. The contact was able to turn off and restart the vehicle, but the engine malfunction indicator illuminated. The was taken to a dealer were it was diagnosed that the air flow sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to the dealer again, but the issue could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the issue. The failure mileage was 90,000.
The transmission has caused numerous problems and ultimately crashed suddenly with warnings of dysfunction malfunction.
Driving vehicle on expressway and vehicle just cut off. Been complaining to Ford since I purchased vehicle about 2 years now, took it in for repairs several time. Was told that the problem is corrected but it keeps doing the same thing. It will roll back when I stop at a light or stop sign. This is dangerous. This time I was lucky nothing serious happened. Next time I might not be.
Car will randomly die at certain times. Sometimes it will start back up sometimes not. Happens during low or medium speeds at intersections almost wrecked a few times due to it. Problem due to a failing electronic throttle body. The car only had 50k miles on it when it started doing it.
I have a 2011 Ford Fiesta, my vehicle has a number of recalls out. (Ford recall number 15s16, field service action number 14m01 and 14m02). I had contacted the dealer November of 2015, they told me that they would contact me when parts were available. I have heard nothing for a year now. There are two recalls out having to do with the transmission. ( transmission clutch shudder/transmission input shaft seal warranty extension and transmission control module extended warranty coverage). I have had my father who is a mechanic tell me that is why my transmission is going out. I have three children and the car is barely shifting correctly and I feel is unsafe to drive but being my only form of transportation I am forced to do so. I need something done, I feel that I shouldn't have to pay for a new transmission when if the recalls were preformed in a timely manner I would not have any issues at all. Please help me resolve this issue. I am already paying so much on this car and getting no where with what I own due to all my payment going to interest. I cannot go without a vehicle. Please help!.
Took my car in twice for the tcm and it's even worse. Shuddering, electrical failures, loss of engagement while driving, and worst of all Ford is denying me service until I put another 1,500 miles on the car! not sure if this is even legal. Trying to press for a lemon law now.
