37 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2012 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 08/23/2014

This car seems to have the same problem where the door latch seems to fail whenever it feels like it. Its unsafe and should be recalled. I took a left hand turn leaving my neighborhood an the passenger doors flew open. Luckily my kids were not in my car, rather some grown men that could grab the doors and hold them closed. The doors will now not shut and I have to disconnect my battery to keep it from dying. This was my first non gm vehicle and will definitely be my last. After looking online I do not see how this has not been recalled yet. I guess we just have to wait for somebody to get fatally injured. . . Or better yet numerous people before anything gets done about this.

38 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2013 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 08/08/2014

On August 8th, the driver's door would not latch. The latch was replaced at the dealer ($450). On September 5th, the front passenger side door stopped latching. We called 5 local dealers before we could find one that had the part as we were told it was on national backorder. When we were able to locate a dealer with the part, we were told that it was reserved for the service department only. If we wanted to be placed on the waiting list to purchase it to have installed elsewhere, we would be #7 on the waiting list. The problem appears identical to the issue that resulted in the escape recall in may: the second case covers about 692,700 escapes. Exterior door handles can bind and stop the door from latching properly. This could allow doors to open while the suvs are in motion.

39 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2012 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 07/30/2014

Ford Fiesta 2012 still under warranty; this is the second door in this new car where the door latch just stops working. Stays ajar. The first time took 1 week to get part; this time dealer is saying the part will take a month. They said there are many people experiencing this and he has a couple of customers who's cars have been there a couple of weeks already, but parts won't come until end of August! I don't have rental insurance, we only have one vehicle, no bus line to work - I can not be without my car for a month or more. So grateful we were not on the freeway or traveling any faster (this was on my passengers side). Cheaply made door parts - we think because the door is closed, locked it can't fly open we better think again.

42 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2011 Ford Fiesta

43 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2011 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 07/19/2014

Back passenger door lock suddenly would not catch. Warranty had expired 3 months ago although mileage only 28000. I took it to 2 dealers. One told me that they have seen at least 70 cars with this problem and that there have been so many that the parts are on back order. At the other dealership the customer service rep told me that he had already seen about 5 in the last month, in fact there was another vehicle there that day with the same issue, only it was a different Ford model. My latch failure was unusual because it failed after the warranty had expired. Most are failing under warranty. One dealership quoted me $600 to fix. The other dealership gave me a break since there was such low mileage and discounted it to $100. I suspect that this lock failure is happening to tens of thousands of cars, but NHTSA is not hearing about it because it is happening under warranty.

44 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2011 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 07/16/2014

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fiesta. The contact stated that the rear passenger lock failed to lock electronically or manually. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The technician inspected the vehicle but did not notify the contact of what part needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 28,100.

45 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2011 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 07/15/2014

Rear door latches fail to close both rear doors. They both failed approximately the same time. I now have them tied together from the inside. This is definitely a safety hazard. The dealer said there isn't a recall. They also stated it could take up to 3 weeks to get replacement latches because Ford can't keep up with replacement parts. That tells me there is a problem. Waiting to see if there will be a recall. Ford wants approximately $500 to replace both latches because vehicle is no longer under warranty. I request you contact Ford and have them replace the latches at no cost.

46 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2011 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 06/27/2014

Arrived home after picking up dry cleaning and placing it on back seat, via back driver's side door. Opened door to retrieve clothes, door would not latch shut. Had to have my son sit in back seat and hold door, while I drove to dealership, as the door would swing open when I made a turn. Turns out, car was four days out of warranty, necessitating my paying the full repair cost. By the way, I was told by the service advisor that his wife's Fiesta was in the shop for the same problem and she was three days out of warranty. Part was backordered. He told me Ford is aware that this is a problem, but hasn't made it a recall. Cost me $300+ to fix. Ford needs to step up and cover/reimburse owners!.

47 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2013 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 06/22/2014

For the second time in three weeks two door latches have failed on my car. Both times it happened while driving down the road and when I made a turn one of the doors came flying open. First incident occured on June 22nd 2014 and the second incident on July 10th 2014. This caused a serious safety concern if someone was not buckled in and could fall out of the car. I had to use a cargo starp to keep the door shut both times while taking it to the dealership for repair. The door latch modules on these Fords are a cheap plastic and become broken very easily with normal use.

48 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2012 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 06/22/2014

June 22nd 2014 , my son's friend was getting out of the car and closed the rear passenger's door and it would no longer latch. I had to ratchet the 2 rear doors together to hold it shut. Repair cost was $300. 00. Second incident was September 20th 2014, my son and I was at a family reunion 300 miles away from home, as we were leaving,he shut his front passenger door and it did not close, the door would not latch. I still had the ratchet in the car from the first failed door latch, so he rode in the back while I held the door shut ratcheted together to the front driver door. I have to get together the $300. 00 to replace this failed latch. My question is that if the original parts for the doors failed, will the replacements do the same thing? I am thankful that my son and his friend was not injured, but maybe that is what they are waiting on before they fix this problem.

49 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2012 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 06/18/2014

Door latch will not catch. The door does not lock or stay closed. This is happening on the passenger front side door. Has already happened to the passenger back door as well.

50 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2012 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 06/09/2014

I was driving my vehicle at appx. 15 mph when the front passenger door opened on its own. I pulled over and tried to close the door; the door failed to latch or close again. I had to keep it closed with a bungee cord and drive to the dealership. I paid $450 for the repair. I am posting this now, after doing some research; because the same thing the happened the my rear passenger door. Now I will have to bungee that closed and drive, once again, to the dealership to pay another $450 for something that should be recalled. Please recall ASAP.

51 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2011 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 06/02/2014

Passenger rear door lock won't lock, and door flies open. This has been reported on this site before. No help from dealer/Ford so far. This is a safety issue and should be handled/resolved as such.

52 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2011 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

Opened passenger side rear door to put child in car carseat. Shut the door, got in and started car. When I started to reverse the door open alert came on. Got out of car thinking I just didn't shut the door hard enough. The door would not latch. Have not gone to dealership because bumper to bumper warranty is up. From what I have read there is a back order on the part I need to fix it. I have the door tied to the inside of the car and the door open notification constantly comes on as well as the inside lights. Luckily I noticed this before pulling off or the situation could have been life threatening for the kids! I hope that Ford recognizes this problem and does a recall!.

53 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2013 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 10/04/2013

I have the s package, so the doors can only be locked by key or by the interior power door lock button. If the doors are locked by key (which is how I usually lock my car), and then the passenger door is unlocked first, the interior power door lock button does not operate. This is a safety problem in numerous ways: I discovered the problem when my teenage daughter wanted to sit in the car while I did grocery shopping and could not lock herself in the car (which is a safety rule I require). Another problem would be if I needed to get into the car quickly from the nearest side if I felt unsafe, and then lock myself in while calling 911--can't do it in this car. Aside from safety, this is a real inconvenience. When I reported the problem to the Ford dealership where I bought my car and asked them to fix it, they said they had never encountered this problem and called it into the Ford hotline. After consulting with the hotline they told me the car was designed this way, so there was nothing to fix. They even tried it on several cars in their lot and they all malfunctioned the same way. I was not told about this "design" feature before I purchased the car--and, believe me, it would have been a deal-breaker--but Ford will not admit that it is a design flaw.

54 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2013 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 08/30/2013

Closed door and door bounced back. Locking mechanism has broken twice on two different occasions.

55 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2012 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 08/25/2013

While driving at about 20mph and braking lightly, the rear drivers side door swung open. After stopping I attempted to secure the door but the door would not latch. The door when shut will not stay secured and will swing open. The latch/locking mechanism malfunctioned. I inspected the latch and all parts seem to be there but the latch that catches on the bolt does not lock in place.

56 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2013 Ford Fiesta

Failure Date: 08/19/2013

Door latches are failing. This is the third time in 1 year. Part# be8z*5426412*b lock asy purchase date: 11/10/12 right rear door latch fail: 8/19/13 @ dealer for 9 days (mileage 2439). Right front door latch fail: 6/30/14 @ dealer for 18 days (mileage 10843). Left rear door latch fail: 9/02/14 still at dealer (mileage 12460). Dealer says part on back order. Delivery of car unknown. Repairs have been limited to a replacement of the broken latch with the original part number that failed to begin with. Reported to Ford customer service (800) 392-3673 on 9/03/14 safety and security are my first concern as well as financial burden once out of warranty.

57 Latches/locks/linkage problem of the 2011 Ford Fiesta

Closed rear passenger door after putting a bag in the car. Started to back out of parking spot when dash display said "door open. " pulled door closed. . . Same thing. Got out. Door latch had completely failed. I now have door bungied closed for three weeks. Contacted Ford and was contacted by local dealer. That was two weeks ago.
