There was a recall letter mailed to me a few years later and Ford dealership claimed the issue was resolved. Within a few days it began again. I have owned this vehicle 10 years with the same safety issue and have had to pull over numerous times when the rpms dont reset while on the highway to avoid accidents. I am now filing a formal complaint because I was rear ended due to this issue by a person with no insurance. How can I get this to go away before someone is hurt.

I brought it to a Ford dealer and mechanic who ran the system on the computer speculating it was the throttle body by cleared data so they could gather more information. These computer checks (3 of them) cost me more than $420. 00. Then I was told that the throttle body was indeed faulty. The repair cost me $947. 98 to fix. I was driving my 2005 Ford Five Hundred to work and the "fail safe mode" message came on and the wrench lit up. The engine starts to die and the car starts lurching forward. I pulled over, shut the car off. When I started it back up, it ran fine. I called the dealer who said they would need to have me bring the car in so they can look into it. Ford has no bulletins on this - this should be a recall. As I research online, this has happened to many Ford vehicles, not just the Five Hundred.
