36 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2012

My car has done this for a while however has continued to get worse. It will jerk when it changes gears. It is so bad at times it feels like something is going to fall out. Along with the jerk it will completely go out of gear and the accelerator only rams it up. I have been passing cars on the interstate and it go out of gear, I have been on side roads and it go out of gear and all I can do when that happens is role until I can get the car pulled over. Eventually the car will jerk and it will go back into gear. I have not had a wreck but have come very close just because people behind me and the car stalling all of a sudden. God has just been with us each time this has happened. I know other people have this same problem with this car. It is very expensive to get fixed and mine is parked as we speak because I cant afford the part nor the labor. The Ford dealer says it is the valve body. If I drive it much more it will cost double to get the transmission itself fixed. I am very upset due to the fact that I do really love this car. It seems that everyone who has this vehicle is having the same problem. There is a forum that is on the web that people have shared their experiences and we all are alike. It is a shame that we would have to wait until so many wrecks before a recall on the transmission is made. Do we have to wait until someone is killed or hurt really bad to prove that this is a true problem. If this many people have the same transmission troubles can they not see something is wrong. They didn't make this car for very long. I don't know if it is because of that and Ford doesn't want to fix something that was only made for 3 years. My request is sincere and I just hope that Ford will see that yes it is a great car that they made, however it is very dangerous and waiting for someone to sue before fixing it after everyone telling them about, it is not good.

37 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2012

The vehicle will stall and jerk. The vehicle will lunge out even when the brake is pressed. It has done this in parking lots and while driving. This is dangerous as it almost caused an accident by jerking backward immediately when I shifted to reverse when I was in the parking lot- my foot was on the brake and the car still excelled.

38 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2011

My Ford Five Hundred is losing power while driving down the street without warning. No car should be performing this way and no known mechanical issues. The car is driven daily and maintenance has been kept/up to date. I think this is an issue with this Ford model and year should be a recall on it.

39 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

On a daily basis, at low speeds, going forward or reverse, my car will surge or rev up when turning the steering wheel. Often times, it is when I am backing up and have the air conditioning on. It will surge and the brake has to be immediately pressed or the car will surge in the direction that you are traveling. This seems to be a common problem amongst 500 owners very similar to the Ford freestyle. This could easily lead to a fatality if the incident occurs at the correct time.

40 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2011

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Five Hundred awd. The contact stated that while driving approximately 60 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact was able to coast to the side of the road and restart the vehicle after several minutes. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised him that the valve body in the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired for the valve body. The failure and the current mileages were approximately 95,000. Updated 12/06/lj.

41 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2011

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Five Hundred. The contact stated that the transmission would exhibit an abnormal grinding when shifted into neutral or park. The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic who diagnosed that the rolling bearing inside of the transmission was defective and as a result, the transmission would need to be rebuilt. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 90,000 and the current mileage was 95,000.

42 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2011

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Five Hundred. The contact stated that while attempting to accelerate from a stop, the vehicle hesitated before quickly accelerating. An engine fail safe mode message also illuminated on the instrument panel and there was an increase in engine rpms during the failure. The failure had since recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop, where the contact was informed that the transmission would need to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 75,000.

43 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2011

I too have a 2006 Ford Five Hundred that will lunge forward at odd times especially when the a/c is on. In fact, I won't even use the a/c anymore because of my Ford Five Hundred lunging forward. It is a major problem and I believe should have been recalled a long time ago. I bought my Ford Five Hundred in Jan 2006 and it has been doing it ever since. It will just lunge forward even when braking or stopped. What a pain. I am amazed I haven't rear ended someone. Please recall this Ford!.

44 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2011

I own a 2006 Ford Five Hundred and noticed during the summer months it would occassionally "surge" when putting it in reverse or drive and had to hold my foot on the brake. I took it inot a shop and they showed me my top motor mount was broken and said that was common on this vehicle and could account for the "surging". I had it replaced and it seemd ok until I took it in for an oil change at the local Ford dealer. They suggested I also have the fuel filter changed and the next day while waiting to park for a concert with my son (hot day w/ac on) it started surgin forward much harder than it had before. While parking I almost hit the wall! after some research I see this is a commonn problem on the 2005-2007 Ford vehicles sharing this powertrain. C'mon, Ford do the right thing and get this fixed with a recall, do you really want to wait until someone dies like Toyota did?.

45 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 03/12/2011

I purchased a 2006 Ford 500 in March 2011. I have had problems with this car from the very beginning. On many occasions, proceeding to back out of parking spots the car accelerates and lunges on its own. It will then jerk and go dead always starts right back, displaying a wrench light. Several times waiting in drive through lines or at traffic lights this has happened. I always feel as if it is dangerous to pull it into gear if anyone or anything is within 10 feet of me. Then there are the time on the road when I suddenly lose power. I have discussed this problem with the dealership on several occasions and all they tell me is there is nothing they can do because they could not duplicate the problem. This seems to be a very dangerous situation that will eventually cause harm to one or many people.

46 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2011

This Ford Five Hundred surges or revs up the engine, in forward or reverse, when driving at slow speeds, usually into parking spaces or at red lights. This is a dangerous situation because we have no warning that it is about to happen. I have noticed it is worse if the a/c is on. We have avoided several accidents by slamming on the brake, it will even continue to surge if the brake pedal is held hard to the floor. The vehicle started doing this within the first 150 miles that we owned it. The incidents are unpredictable and dangerous.

47 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2011

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Five Hundred limited. The contact was traveling 55 mph when the vehicle failed to shift properly and stayed in neutral, despite the fact that the contact shifted into drive. The vehicle was taken to a dealer. The dealer confirmed the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was contacted but the vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 30,000 and the current mileage was 40,000.

48 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2010

2006 Ford Five Hundred throttle body failure caused car to stall on highway. Then it surged forward later that day going from park to drive.

49 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/30/2010

I bought my 2006 Ford 500 used in 2009 and only a few months afterwards I experienced "lurching" of the vehicle while I was slowing accelerating or reversing. This almost caused me to crash into my garage and is very dangerous when I am reversing in a parking lot as there are pedestrians. This happened randomly for about 9 months with no aftereffects. No light turned on or anything seemed to wrong other than the random lurching. However, 9 months after I purchased the vehicle I was stopped in drive to let my family out of my car in a parking lot and the car lurched while I had my foot on the brake and the gear in drive. The wrench light then came on and the car drove oddly (sounded weird and didn't accelerate well) after that. I eventually parked it and when I returned and turned the car back on the light was off and the car sounded fine. Then 2 months later I started my car and put it into reverse and immediately noticed the car sound weird again and was not accelerating. I put it into drive and basically coasted to the side of the road because there was no acceleration. The wrench light was on again. This time I had to have it towed to the dealership where they told me I had to replace the throttle body assembly. I have not had it repaired yet as I am fighting with them about the warranty I purchased and trying to find the best price as this seems to be a recurring problem.

50 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2010

I'm not sure if this is a power train or other problem, car lurches dangerously at low speeds, and when changing gear into and out of reverse. I hit a post parking in August of 2010 due to this, and it's been getting gradually worse. Took it to the dealer who replaced a broken upper motor mount that was connected to the transmission. Didn't help, although it seemed like a good guess at the time. It helps to keep foot firmly on brake when changing gear or holding still, while the car tries to lurch forward (or back) with unplanned acceleration. Seems to be getting increasingly worse and now I don't feel it's safe to let anyone else drive it, like at valet parking. Taking it back to dealer tomorrow, but we let warranty expire recently darn it. We get so many fake spam warrantee-expiring phone calls that I got confused and dropped the ball. Throttle control module may be giving false signal to carburetor, not sure what it is.

51 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2010

I own a 2006 Ford Five Hundred, limited edition. When the car is put in gear, either drive or reverse, with my foot on the brake, it lurches forward or backwards 75% of the time. I bought my car used almost two years ago with 71,000 miles, and thought the lurching was normal. I took my car to a repair shop, and they said it was the type of transmission. Upon further research, I found out their theory was false, and it turns out the throttle body goes bad after about 30,000 miles. The lurching occurs at least once a day, even after the car has been running for over 30 minutes. I have been lucky that I have not injured anyone with the sudden lurching because I work in a busy downtown city. Since I park in crowded lots and garages, I have come extremely close to hitting other vehicles while I'm simply putting my car in park. The problem wasn't as bad when I first bought the car, but now that it's getting older, I'm really noticing the lurching occurring more frequently. When another member of my family drove my car recently, a fence on our property was struck due to the lurching. Thus far, I have not been able to rectify this issue because the part needed (throttle body) is currently on back order for a few months. I'm hoping Ford is forced to recall this problem because it has the potential of being dangerous or even deadly.

52 Power Train problem

53 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2010

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Five Hundred. The contact stated that the vehicle accelerated abnormally after shifted into gear. The contact also confirmed that on a separate occasion, the vehicle failed to accelerate properly after the accelerator pedal was depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who confirmed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not contacted. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 65,000 and the current mileage was 100,000.

54 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2009

The contact owns a 2006 Ford Five Hundred. The contact stated that when the transmission was shift ed into drive, the vehicle would lunge forward. The contact did not take the vehicle to a dealer or local mechanic. The failure mileage was 137,000.

55 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2009

When shifting into gear, or when taking foot off of brake after sitting for a brief period, car lunges forward (or backwards) without touching the gas pedal. This has caused many near accidents involving buildings, other autos, and pedestrians, very very dangerous. Ford dealers claim they can never duplicate the problem while it is in their shop. Someone is going to get hurt due to Ford and their inability to do the right thing and make proper repairs at their expense.
