I have an ongoing issue with the transmission DE-engaging when the temperature of the transmission warms up. When I accelerate when passing or using the cruise control the transmission will dis-engage leaving me with no forward power, I must put the car in neutral and hope it engages all the while almost being run over by two semi-trucks. This happened almost a dozen times down and back on my trip from buffalo to peapack NJ on Monday 4/16/2012. This is a know problem that Ford is aware on the Five Hundred model, montego and some fusion models. Many start to fail at less than 30,000 miles and happened at 65,000 miles on my vehicle. I consider this an extremely dangerous situation and amazed no one has been killed due to these defective transmissions. The Ford forum has over 10 pages of complaints regarding this problem. Ford told me they would not do anything unless there was a recall.

2005 Ford Five Hundred. Consumer writes in regards to hard shifting and two instrument panel lights illuminating. The consumer also stated the rpm's would race at times. The consumer went to her local dealer and a diagnostic's test revealed a problem with the pcv valve. The pcv was replaced at a cost of $ 112. 95. However, it did not resolve the problem. The consumer went back to the dealer for a transmission diagnostic test, but the dealer was unable to give a definitive answer as tow hat the problem was. Ford customer service was then contacted and they informed the dealer to replace the transmission at a cost of $5000. There was also another intermittent problem where the vehicle would rev while stopped at a stop sign, or red light etc. After getting other opinions, the consumer was informed, the problem was not with the transmission. After doing some research online, the consumer discovered it was a very common occurrence with her particular make, which seemed to be a manufacturing defect.
I drove out of my driveway and immediately lost the ability to accelerate. I tried to rev the engine but there was no response from the engine. My car just sat there in the middle of the street like a dead duck. I was grateful I was not on the freeway or in the middle of an intersection! the next time something happened the car was being driven up the driveway and while climbing up the driveway the accelerator was unresponsive and the car started rolling backwards while it was in drive.
This car is scaring me and anyone else that has to move it in or out of a parking space or when approaching a light or stop sign. It lunges forward when putting it in any gear and when at a stop. This has been happening for over a year. I am so afraid someone is going to get hit or property damage will occur. Your foot can be pressed on the brake and it still lunges forwards or backwards. This problem started at 38,000 and is getting increasingly worse.
Vehicle was in reverse to pull out of driveway, vehicle lurched and then would not accelerate. Turned off key, restarted, pulled into street, vehicle again lurched, wrench light illuminated on dash, vehicle shut itself off. Turned key off and restarted--car did samething again in the middle of the street. Last time, rekeyed vehicle worked from that point. Car taken to dealer & had a code of u0401 in transmission. Was told throttle body was defective. Have not replaced part at the point due to cost.
The contact owns a 2007 Ford Five Hundred. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70 mph, the vehicle began to decelerate. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostics, where the technicians stated that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The failure continued after the repairs were performed. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where the technicians stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired a second time. The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

2006 Ford Five Hundred, lunges forward unexpectedly, air conditioner does not work properly, does not accelerate to full potential, wrench light came out after weeks of this problem happening. Power train and transmission problem. When put in reverse it accelerates with foot still on brake, could cause an accident. Need to be recalled various complaints seen on-line!! wrench lights comes on and off. (related vehicle information: model year=2006, make=five hundred, model=Ford).
Increasing to and finally ending in the car shutting down, my '06 Five Hundred began sudden accelerations when being placed in gear. Several "close calls" when in parking lots could have resulted in injury to people. Not good and scary. It started with occasional surges, and became very frequent until the light came on revealing the throttle control is the issue. I am currently grounded until it can be fixed. I care about people's well being and hope Ford cares too!.
2007 Ford Five Hundred sel accelerating and lunging while pulling into a parking spot, garage, or drive-thru lane. Occurs in drive and in reverse. Sudden acceleration lunges the car several feet and has caused several near-miss incidents. Can't park too close to another car in parking lot or garage or pull up behind another car very close at a red light for fear of car lunging into the car in front. Very scary not being able to control this. Afraid to coast into parking spot without foot on brake for fear of hitting someone or some thing.
I own a 2006 Ford 500. Cvt transmission. 114,000 miles . 3 weeks ago, I noticed a surging on occasions . Felt like it needed tune up. After tuneup the surging continued. My mechanic said to take it to a Ford dealer , have it checked out. When I did , was told by the service manager that I needed a new transmission. Belt slipping on cones in transmission, cost $5600. . Said could not rebuild transmission , because Ford did not supply them with the equipment to do this. Said they ran test to find problem while driving. Was told they also checked transmission fluid, and it was ok. Cost was $80. To find problem. That afternoon , I checked transmission fluid , and dipstick was hard to remove , because it had not been removed since car was new. After getting it to free-up, it just slides in and out. After inspecting fluid, noticed color of fluid is color of unused motor oil. . Almost clear. Also had a few bubbles in it. Color is supposd to be blueish-green, as it gets older turns dark green, or brown. Went back to Ford dealship, informed serv. Mgr that fluid was never chked also there was no belt , it has a chain in it. Cost $900. +for chain. He said drive car until wrench indicator came on . Next day, wrench appeared. Car lost power ,continued to run ,however could not rev rpms. Cut off, then restarted car, this clears codes. . Still in lingo. Also motor support on top of engine is broken, this effects transmission. Part is partially rubber and heat from engine causes it to break. Cost of this on ebay $200. Thru Ford, replaced $600+. Throttle contol I understand is like $800. +someone need to look at all the problems that are listed about this on the internet. . I looked at trading car , value on trade was $5300. With good transmission. . Which cost $5600. Car is a 2006 model,. Are cars only suppose to last 5 years?. The cvt was suppose to be so great to help increase mileage but Ford used it a couple of years , then went to 6speed auto. Honda has used cvt for years, no problem. Whts the deal.
2007 Ford 500 transmission problem. Driving on interstate and the transmission starts to buck out of the blue. Cannot pass people on normal roads or barely make it up hills, acceleration is very slow. Failure occurs every time the car is driven, getting worse every day. It used to occur at higher speeds, now it is happening anywhere above 30mph. Have not done anything to correct problem, been reading up on it; and everyone has the problem and there is no "cheap" fix yet.
My 2006 Ford 500 cvt when going from idle either forward of reverse will lunge if my foot is not firmly on the brakes. My wife and son have used the car and both have almost had accidents from this happening in parking lots. This happens almost daily and before the 60,000 mile warranty ran out I did take the car back to autoway Ford in st petersburg FL but it still is occuring. I heard about the freestyle issue and know they also have a cvt transmission is anyone looking into this issue with the Five Hundred.

Car lurches at inappropriate times. This occurs mostly when putting it into reverse from park.
The car accelerates by itself and transmission is not performing correctly as it does not accelerate after braking after the transmission warms up , they said it was throttlebody but replaced that and trans fluid but still have same trouble after about 30 miles of driving . This could get people killed and it should be recalled no ifs ands or buts about it !!!!!! Ford take care of youre customers.
Traveling on mountain highway and attempting to pass tractor trailer depressed throttle and transmission downshifted to next lower gear than slammed into the next lower gear. Loss of all acceleration transmission illuminated. Than transmission appears to have electronically disengaged from engine (no forward movement at all, mind you I was trying to pass) engine revolutions increased to over 7,000 rpm. Both transmission light and check engine light illuminated. After a brief rest at side of rode vehicle restarted and could be moved both lights remained illuminated. After 5 or 10 restarts both error lights extinguished.
2006 Ford Five Hundred ltd awd, vehicle accelerated to 4000 rpm while in reverse. Vehicle in shop for three weeks waiting for replacement part, throttle body. Dealer stated part on back order and he had two other vehicle in at same time with same diagnosis.
I had my vehicle at the service department three timed for transmission problems. The car would jump and sputter but every time the dealership came to the same conclusion, nothing wrong with the vehicle. Went to get a third opinion at another dealership was was told I need new valve body. Everytime I took the car to the dealership the car was under extended warranty. Now it is no longer under warranty and the cost will rise above $2100. 00 this shold have been a recall issue. Transmission problems should be taken more seriously.
I was driving my Ford 500 on the highway, when I lost power to the transmission. I could rev the engine, but no power would go to the transmission. I was lucky able to pull over to the side of the road. The car now has a little lurch when first starting out.
The contact owns a 2007 Ford Five Hundred. The contact attempted to start the vehicle but it would not shift into drive or reverse. The gear shift knob moved and the engine revved but the gears would not change. The vehicle was towed to an authorized dealer who was able to get the gears to change but could determine the cause of failure. The failure mileage was 35,000 and the current mileage was 40,200.
2005 Ford 500 awd malfunction, Fords refusal to offer any compensation for a faulty transmission.
I am buying a 2005 Ford 500 limited with an 6 spd transmission it now has 136k miles on it. It has been a problem ever since I purchased the vehicle used from crossroads Ford in memphis. I had to have the engine replaced at 54k miles. Now the transmission/transaxle is starting to slip and stall in traffic. You start to move from a traffic light and it will go slowly then jump to about 4k to 6k on the tachometer and at that point the car stalls and you are about to be rear ended by other drivers due to the car stalling. According to Ford they have known of this problem but only offer selling you a new transmission which they should be responsible for since they built the product even if the factory warranty is gone. Cant afford to buy another car or trade this one in or get the transmission fixed according to Ford the replacement is around $4600. Don't have that kind of money lying around.
I own a 2006 Ford Five Hundred. Car surges forward even when the brake pedal is pressed. It does this in reverse also - even when the brake pedal is pressed. I have found that the car does this mainly when the air conditioning is turned on. It is extremely dangerous to try to park the car when the air conditioning is on. The car surges forward and I have almost run into other cars when trying to park. The dealer retrieved the code from the computer. They applied the latest updates to the computer and cleared the code. The dealer told me if that did not solve the problem, I would have to get a new throttle body at approx. $400. Several weeks have gone by and the problem is getting worse. It is scary! I called the dealer and asked them to order a new throttle body. It appears to be on backorder until 8/31/10. So I am on a waiting list. This is a major safety problem that Ford motor company needs to take car of. This should be a recall!!! Ford motor company should make this right. I am disappointed in Ford. I have owned Ford vehicles for 20 years and have never been so dissatisfied.
I have a 2006 Ford Five Hundred and the problem is when I am driving at a normal speed and have to slow down and then take off the car make a strong bucking hit, I took it to the dealer to have it checked out and they told me it was a motor mount, they replaced the mount but the car continued to do the same thing, the warranty was just about to run out when I took it the second time and they told me it was the throttle body, when the checked with the warranty they told me it had expired. I had told them that this was a follow up from the first time I took the car in but they said they could not do anything, in searching I found out that Ford was aware that the cvt transmission had problems and they refuse to accept it, they need to recall these cars fix the problem that they have caused. Thank you for hearing me out.
2005 Ford Five Hundred erratic transmission behavior. Unsafe shifting causes car to lunge sideways and vibrate at higher speeds. The downshift delay lunges the car forward making quick stops unsafe and nearly creates a wreck everyday.
Transmission bucked when trying to pass at highway speeds. Vehicle has 73,000 miles and now transmission has to be replaced. Entire transmission replaced due to seal failure inside transmission.
My wife has a 2007 Ford 500. Since 40k miles, she's had continous problems with the vehicle surging at inappropriate times. I also had a 2007 model 500 as a company car. I began experiencing the same problems in/around the same mileage. Several other people with our company were also driving 500's and experienced the same problems. Ford sent a representative to green Ford in greensboro, nc and diagnosed the problem as the electronic throttle body. The vehicles were repaired out of warranty. The problem has gotten progressively worse. As a result and after the vehicle almost surged into our daughter, I took my wife's car to the Ford dealership today. The service rep acknowledged "some problems" with the throttle body, but advised it was not a problem in all vehicles. I told him about the same problems with my 500 and the problems with the other company cars. I even offered to provide him the name and contact information for the other dealership, but was told they were in a "different district" and had a different reprsentative. I asked if they communicated with each other to which I received an intelligeible response. I work as an insurance investigator and will ensure this problem is not overlooked. I've almost wrecked the car 3 times in our carport and parking lots as a result of sudden surge. It appears Toyota is not the only car company with sudden surges and/or problems with throttle problems. We've been fortunate that nobody has been injured, but I don't believe someone should be hurt or worse before a company does the right thing and takes a proactive response to a known problem. Thank you.
Car: 2007 Ford 500 limited. Moving shift lever from park to reverse or to drive, after about 1 second the car "lurches" forward or backward. I keep the brake locked down when changing gears for several seconds until im sure it wont jump but I have to remember to do it. This is dangerous. When this first started happening, I almost ran over someone. I hope you can identify the problem and let me know or have Ford put out a safety recall and a fix for the problem. Thanks.
My wife has a 2005 Ford 500 and we witness a sudden lurch when shifting the vehicle out of park, andeven at times where we are at a standstill. This has been happening off and on for at least 2 years. We have contacted our local Ford dealership and we keep getting told its the air filter being dirty. I cleaned the filter(k&n) and reinserted it in the vehicle. We have not had any injuries or accidents as of yet, but we are afraid of the time where it does do it and cause an accident. Have there been other complaints about this problem?.
I own a Ford 500, I am now on my third replacement of a throttle body. I have found out that this is a common problem on that vehicle. This happens out of no where and is dangerous because when driving the vehicle it jumps forward and could cause an accident. Not only am I in danger but those in the vehicle are as well as those around me. The part is on back order for months but I have been able to get used throttle bodies but they keep going out and none have been successful. I just picked my vehicle up from Ford 3 days ago and its now back at the dealership yet again. The first time this happened I got stranded out of town for 4 days and had to drive half way back to my home town in a rental to get a used part and drive all the way back. This a huge inconvenience that has cost time and money. There is no telling how long this repair is going to take once again and how much money I will have to give away again.
2006 Ford 500 sel with cvt. Car bucks when slowing down to 20 mpf. Also will not accelerate so I cannot pass trucks on the highway. Real dangerous. Took it to the dealer while still in warranty and they could not find anything except to try to sell me a master control for $2100 and they would not guarantee this was the problem. This issue needs to be a recall.
I own a 2005 Ford 500 (se model) car. It just passed 52k miles and the transmission just broken when I drove at normal speed on highway. I was luck that I can still survive. The dealer inspected it and told me to replace whole transmission. From the similar reports from a lot of customers, this is obviously a manufacturing issue. Please investigate Ford company on their common transmission problem.
