1 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2013 Ford Flex

Failure Date: 03/25/2021

We have 2 complaints about the airbags. I was driving 65mph on highway and hit a bear on front drivers side (airbag did not deploy. ) repaired the car. My daughter was in a highway collision rear ended a person at 43 -45 mph airbags did not deploy. Informed yesterday the car is a total loss. She had her glasses thrown off her face dash was pushed back, trooper and tow truck driver were shocked they didn't go off. She was not injured having concussive symptoms. We also found out that the VIN does not match the interior of the car as they were running the specs of the vehicle. The VIN is saying that it is a cloth interior and my car has leather interior. If it was an upgrade it should still be associated with the VIN of the car?.

4 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2013 Ford Flex

Failure Date: 11/18/2018

There is a recall on the electronic power steering for certain 2013 Ford Flex's. Recall 15s18. The manufacturer says that mine does not qualify for the but the vehicle has the same symptoms as the recall campaign. The power steering was out on my vehicle, it locked up around a curve when I was doing about 50 miles an hour. The vehicle would not turn right, I crossed a lane of oncoming traffic and hit a tree on Sunday 11 18 18. I was on highway 70 in kingston tennessee, headed eastbound. The steering wheel is very loose and in a bind as if the steering wheel was locked with keys out of the ignition. I hit the tree doing about 35 mph to 40 mph when steering became inop and the airbags did not even deploy. I was fortunate enough to be able to slow the vehicle from 50 mph to around 35 miles an hour before striking the tree or could'vebeen much worse. I sustained shoulder injury and can only hope that this vehicle becomes part of the recall because I could have very easily hit somebody head on and killed someone or myself. Very thankful to be here but this could have easily cost me my life.

My Flex started having a hard jerk and bang when going from reverse to park. Was not always but frequent. The car started to run hot when sitting in a drive thru or traffic but would go right back down when I started moving. I took it into s mechanic and he replaced the fan. After replacing the fan the car began to have a really bad grinding noise when idling or traveling. Do bad I did not want to drive it. I took it into the Ford dealership and after 2 days they call and say they can't find anything wrong. Within 4 minutes I get another call daying I need a new transmission. The car would eccellerate on its own, shut off intermittently, and car would lag between 3rd and 4th gears. Ford dealership advised me to have a knew transmission put in. Car will shift properly most of the time even on highway. Only get whining noise at low speeds. I was also in an accident causing $13000. 00 worth of damage to front end and airbags did not deploy after hitting a car doing 35 mph.

Failure Date: 06/28/2013

We were involved in an accident where a Jeep was thrown into the front of our vehicle by a Ford f-150, totalling our vehicle, and our airbags did not deploy, none of them. We were at a stop sign and all walked away from the accident, but the police, fire department, and insurance adjuster all said something was wrong for the metal ibeam behind the bumper to be crushed into the radiator and for our airbags to not deploy. The insurance adjuster had already deemed our Flex as a total loss but mentioned that had we repaired the vehicle we would need to investigatre further why the airbags malfunctioned and have it fixed. We would still like to investigate to understand why this happened and to ensure this was an isolated incident or that a recall is issued before someone is seriously injured or killed due to this safety feature malfunction happens to someone else.

14 Air Bag Not Deploy problem of the 2011 Ford Flex

Failure Date: 11/21/2011

On 2100 hrs 21 Nov 2015, my daughter was involved in a deer strike accident on hwy 36 vicinity hamilton, missouri. She was traveling east on the highway 36 at 55-60 mph when a deer ran into the path of the car. The impact was from center line of the car towards the drivers side. She applied the brakes upon seeing the deer but the strike and application of brakes were pretty much simultaneous. She pulled the car off the road and couldn't exit the driver's door because the front fender overlapping the door due to impact. The airbag did not deploy, she was wearing her seat belt which probably saved her from any major injuries. Based upon the frontal damage to the vehicle the airbag should have deployed. As you can see in the attached photos the frame and internal bumper are exposed approximately a foot beyond the body which has been crushed back. In my opinion it appears that there was enough frontal force which should have deployed the airbag. I therefore feel the airbag was defective and created a significant safety issue.
