Unknown Or Other problem #1

Steering column locked up and will not allow key to turn in ignition, cannot get steering column to unlock no matter what is done.

Unknown Or Other problem #2

I have been researching the issue and while it doesn't fit within the traditional constraints of a safety complaint, it is indeed a safety hazard. The ignition column of the 2000 Ford Focus will "lock" as I was told by the service representative at a Ford dealership. Luckily, this happened to me in my driveway. However, if this were to happen to someone in a remote area, they would be stranded by a problem that they have no control of or any idea that it may happen. The service rep told me that there was nothing I could have done to prevent this problem, and there was no way I could fix unless I came to a dealership. If someone has a family of four (such as the people I bought this from) and they are stranded in the middle of nowhere, basically a default with a key tumbler is to blame. This seems unfair to the consumer.

Unknown Or Other problem #3

The gas pedal got stuck and we were in a car accident.

Unknown Or Other problem #4

I drove my 2000 Ford Focus zx3 to work and back with no problem. I parked it at my house and later that night when I went to take my car out the key would not completely fit into the ignition. The steering wheel is locked the key is almost completley in and I cant get it in any farther. I'm either going to have to take it to a dealer or a locksmith most likely. I'm lucky I wasn't out late or far from home.

Unknown Or Other problem #5

Ignition locking mechanism not working - can not start car. Key will not turn at all. A known problem with Ford Focus 2000 - 2003. This problem should be investigated, Ford seems to deny the problem and is lining their pockets still with the repair money ($400 +). One day somebody is going to get stranded and get seriously hurt. (thank god for that cell phone). It is absolutely ridiculous this has not been recalled. Crooked american car companies - I did not buy this car it was given to us with only 26,000 miles on it and it only proves I would not buy american cars. How sad for economy and lack of doing the right thing.

Unknown Or Other problem #6

I have a Ford Focus 2001 and the key got stuck in the ignition. I wasn't able to put the key in or remove it. I took my car to the Ford dealership and had to pay 350. 00 to get it fixed.

Unknown Or Other problem #7

Driving to work 4 am- hear a click; engine goes dead; roll to side of road; get out of car and see smoke and fire coming out of the bottom of engine. Within 4 minutes care is in flames. . . Totally burn by time the fire department got to site all that was left was the rear end// no injuries luckily I was able to get out of the car.

Unknown Or Other problem #8

Ignition failure.

Unknown Or Other problem #9

Brakes failed which caused crash. The very day back brakes were fixed, the front brakes then went out within a month, resulting in almost another accident. Even though Ford recalled this back in 2000, (bought car in 2005) they are refusing to fix it. There have been 14 total recalls, all seem to be wrong with my car too. I should have done my homework prior to buying but why was anyone even able to sell this to me considering all the recalls?.

Unknown Or Other problem #10

Problems with inserting and/or removing the key from the ignition key slot. I was unable to reinsert the key to start the ignition until I used powder graphite and tapped the key in place. Once the key was in, it became very difficult to remove. I've ended up leaving the key in the key slot and using a second key fob to lock and unlock the doors.

Unknown Or Other problem #11

Ignition lock, nothing lead up to the failure its an engineering problem with the care. My brother a locksmith has dealt with this problem half a dozen times in the last year with Ford Focus. Couldn't start car had to have it towed and the entire ignition cylinder had to be replaced, costing a lot of money because it requires that all the keys be recoded and all door locks as well.

Unknown Or Other problem #12

Consumer accidentally opened up another Ford Focus door with key. There was another incident where the consumer had gone to a Ford dealership with the assistance of a Ford staff person who witnessed the consumers key open the doors, trunk, and ignition of 3 out of 3 2004 Ford Focuses. The consumer was told that it was an isolated case.

Unknown Or Other problem #13

My paint is peeling on the hood of my 2000 Ford Focus.

Unknown Or Other problem #14

Ignition - without any advance warning I tried to put key in ignition and it wouldn't go in. I after awhile I got key in, but ignition cylinder would not turn. Had to take to Ford for repair which cost $430.

Unknown Or Other problem #15

The Ford Focus we purchased has been in the shop now four times for the same part to be replaced. The ignition/key problem has become an issue as the last head mechanic stated to my husband Ford would no longer replace the part because it is not under the initial warranty. We disagree because it is a Ford defective part that they put in new and has failed now four times. I just got off the phone with the repair "advisor" of the dealership where we had the work done for the past three repairs. The following repairs have occurred: August 02 installed new lock cylinder and rekeyed April 03 installed new tumbler September 03 replace key switch the above details I have taken from the invoice copies that I have. He explained the total cost including towing amounts to approximately $300. 00. Now looking at these repairs, although the same problem with the key/ignition occurs, it seems they are replacing different parts. He is confident that this problem has been fixed and should not reoccur. . . . I hope he is right! they have paid the total costs of these repairs and have also paid for towing of the vehicle. I am concerned that if this occurs again, he stated they will be unable to pay for the repair as they have done all they could do.

Unknown Or Other problem #16

Key cylinder failure. Tow truck driver says he tows one Focus a week with similiar problem. Problem may be caused by heavy keyring, which mine is. Did have major engine failure that Ford fixed under warranty. Radio/clock is burning out digital display.

Unknown Or Other problem #17

Air bags deployed upon low impact and shattered windshield.

Unknown Or Other problem #18

Ford Focus 2000 model stalls at stoplights. Also hesitates when accelerating.

Unknown Or Other problem #19

The tumblers in my ignition failed and there were 4 other Ford Focuses that has been towed in to a Ford place for the same reason. The key won't go all the way into the ignition to start the car and they had to replace the whole lock and key system in my car. I feel like it should be a recall on these cars ingnition switches for the tumblers failed . . My battery cable still get corroded and I thought they recalled those as well but they don't look changed at all. I recently bought a new battery and the car shakes a lot now than before. In my opinion, this car is nothing more than a piece of crap. I've only had it 3 years and it drives like I've had it 10 years. My mom has a brand new SUV bought it the same year I bought mine. Hers has more miles than mine does and hers is doing fine.

Unknown Or Other problem #20

Daughter's Ford Focus started spewing smoke via the heating vents. Then smoke came out from under the hood. Hood was opened and smoke and fire was coming out from the driver's side behind battery. I can say that Ford nor the local dealership here in clarksville, TN have done a damn thing to help. State farm insurance sent a subbrogation claim to Ford several months ago. I have heard nothing. I begged jenkins and wynn (dealership) to allow us to trade the car back in for a decent car. . . . They refused. They know what a peice of crap the car is. I actually left the car on their doorstep with the key and told them I did not want the car. . . For about 2-3 weeks. No help.

Unknown Or Other problem #21

Car continues to shake not able to drive on highway.

Unknown Or Other problem #22

2000 Ford Focus, right rear wheel bearing failure.

Unknown Or Other problem #23

I lost control of my car; the back tires were uncontrollable, I was unable to keep my vehicle under control because of this great shaking/swaying from the rear of the car. After the accident I noticed that the left rear wheel was loose and askew. Because I was unable to control my vehicle, my car rolled twice down an embankment. The airbag deployed, and I received a quite substantial burn on my left wrist.

Unknown Or Other problem #24

I leased a 2000 Ford Focus February 16, 2002 thinking that this was a good investment. I was wrong. I have had 3 recalls on the vehicle and yes Ford fixed them for free. Now my key is stuck in my ignition and will not come out nor turn to start the car. I do not have $500 to fix the vehicle as I am a single parent barely making ends meet. I was told that my warranty expired, therefore I would have to pay the expense. I do not have a car and because of this, I was forced to leave my job. I also have to find a ride for my 4 year old son to get back and forth to school everyday. Bad investment, I think so.

Unknown Or Other problem #25

The ignition switch broke. The key would only go in half way. This happened all of a sudden, no warning. We drove the car to my wifes apartment at school to change for our daughters pre-graduation dinner and when we went back out to leave the key would not go into the ignition. This was on a Friday night and graduation was the next day at 10:30. We contacted the local marquette, Ford dealer crown motors and they had to tow the car in. The car was locked in park and the steering wheel was locked. We were not there when they towed it away but my wife was stuck in marquette until the following Thursday waiting to get the ignition replaced. The dealer said they had to drill out the old switch to remove it. The new switch was coded to our old key so that was good and the crown Ford dealer was very nice and accomodating to my wife. We were told when we bought the car from bessemer auto that this was a "program car" but found out through the internet that it was a rental car. I don\\'t think a rental car is the same as a program car. I am 67 years old and have owned many cars over the years and I have never had an ignition switch break to the point the key would not go in. At 37000 miles not good dependability. My Jeep has 143,000 and the ignition works fine and I stop and start a lot. I am almost afraid to know any more about the Focus problems. My wife really loves this car but is now very unsure of its dependability. She drives home from school at night sometimes and stops at a very remote station for a break and tea. Had this happened there she would have been in a real fix since the closest dealer either way is 80 miles.

Unknown Or Other problem #26

The ignition switch froze up. Mechanic could not remove the cylinder to replace. He had to replace the steering column. It was 17 degrees outside at the time and had to wait 2 hours for help. Luckily I had a cell phone. Knock on wood, I have been very satisfied the the vehicle other than this problem. Thank you.

Unknown Or Other problem #27

I tried to put the key in the ignition. It would not go in. I had to have the car towed to marshall Ford in mayfield heights, ohio from cleveland heights at a cost of $60. 00. Marshall Ford said the place the key should go in was cracked. They drilled out the ignition and installed a new cylinder. Cleaned up chips. At a cost of $267. 00? I feel this was a definite defect in this car and am asking for your help in having Ford cover this cost.

Unknown Or Other problem #28

Engine check light remains on while driving. Dealer contacted. Feel free to provide any further information.

Unknown Or Other problem #29

Engine check light has come on. Vehicle has not been inspected by dealer.

Unknown Or Other problem #30

100% satisfaction??? we can't seem to get the Ford company to help us. My husband had chemical burns that have scarred now. No safety defect listed in summary. ( dot number: ).

Unknown Or Other problem #31

I learned of a recall at the dealer's location after I had it towed in. I never received info beforehand. No safety defect listed in summary.

Unknown Or Other problem #32

I purchased a 2000 (4dr) Ford Focus wagon se on 06/17/00 and I have had nothing but trouble ever since. Here is a list of my complaints constant clicking and screeching noise when I turn or go over a bump sounds as if the car has arthitis problems sometimes my car will not start until after 3 or 4 attempts left back window will not roll down & although I have not heard it since summer the windows make noise when operated like glass rubbing against metal lubericate all of the car doors once a month because they screech extremely loud when opened or shut I have been in almost 4 accidents because of the enormous amount of severe blind spots on both the l & r sides of the car night driving bad - the car sits at a downward angle which allows rear vehicles headlights to blind you with your own rearview and side mirrors - this makes visibility impossible & very dangerous a sour-vinegar like smell appears sometimes on 02/23/02 @ sears auto center I had to replace my tires due to bowed/buckled - odometer was at 22114 - paid out of my pocket to replace tires $508. 46 mechanic could not explain why this happened but instructed me to call Ford & get reimbursed for the tires - I was told it was normal wear and tear no reimbursement. I do not feel this is a direct tire issue but a cause issue from the car itself saftey recall 00s31 everytime I hit a puddle after rain the engine makes a screaming sound & loses some power. After take the car hesitates like it slips into neutral gear? what is going on? why is Ford not held responsible for a bad product and a total recall on the car itself? this car has numerous complaints, Ford does not give you a loaner for its bad product & the most they will say is we are sorry to inconvenience you or we apologize for this situation. I do not want their sympathy I want a car not just priced at 19,750. 97 but valued at $19,750. 97. I want a car that is safe & reliable!.

Unknown Or Other problem #34

This car is the worst investment I have ever made and a friend of mine bought the same car a few months after me and hers fell apart as well. The dealer has done nothing but give both of us a hard time about these two horror cars and they dont honor the warranties we purchased with these crappy cars . I cant wait to get rid of the Ford Focus out of my drive way and neither can my friend . I hope you will investigate these cars very closely they are terrible. No safety defect mentioned in summary. ( dot number: ).

Unknown Or Other problem #35

This acr is very bad news and I am fighting to get rid of it now and Ford should be investigated for selling a vehicle this unsafe and I will never purchase from Ford again. When I took this Focus in for repair I was told that since it is so new that there isnt a mechanic that really knows how to fix it and that they will get back to me when they find one that can. This is very poor service with a very poor and unsafe car. Please look into this for all the people that will have to go througfh this as well . Thank you very much. Melissa. No safety defect mentioned in summary. ( dot number: ).
