Front Air Bag problems of the 2000 Ford Focus - part 2

Both driver and passenger airbags deployed while car was stopped - the car in front was bumped but I'm sure it was after the airbags went off. While there is a possibility that I bumped them first I barely bumped them - I never let my clutch out or gave the car gas - neither car showed any damage, other than ours which shows only airbag damage. The police were called - the officer noted that there was no damage other than the airbags. Our question is why did they go off? other then being scared and stunned for a few moments, my left arm suffered, bruises and burns from the airbag. The car has been at a dealership in NJ for almost 2 weeks - they state it cannot be touched until the legal dept of Ford contacts us .

While consumer was traveling down the road air bags unexpectedly deployed, no one was injured. Contacted dealer ,and dealer was not willing to do anything.

While driving at approximately 5 mph both frontal air bags deployed unexpectedly. Windshield was shattered when this occurred, and passenger lost all hearing for approximately 30 to 45 seconds. Please provide any additional information/attachments/photographs.

The passenger , jacob, was belted , but the seat belt failed to restrain him. The air bag did not open until he hit the wind shield of the vehicle. When the air bags opened the steering wheel caught fire and burned. . Combustion was subsequent to the air bag opening and there was a great deal of smoke that the driver inhaled before the passenger in the rear seat , michael williams, got out of the car and put the fire out. She was trapped in the car by the seat belt , it would not release but it failed to restrain her and she hit the windshield . . Not nearly as bad as jacob, but it is broken. The steering wheel was burned. Michael saw some sort of sparks that he thought was from the seat belt.

While traveling 10mph in bumper to bumper traffic consumer had a front end collision, causing airbags to deploy and break windshield on passenger's side. Manufacturer and dealer have been contatced to buy back vehicle, but no decision has been made at this time. Consumer sustained first and second degree burns to right arm because of air bags.

While traveling 10 mph in traffic consumer had a front end collision that caused driver's and passenger's airbags to deploy. Passenger side of windshield was broken from force of airbag. Consumer received 2nd degree burns from air bag deployment. Manufacturer has been contacted for purchasing vehicle back. No result has been decided at this time.

While traveling at about 5-10 mph consumer ran into another vehicle in front of him head-on. Upon impact, air bags did deploy, and consumer sustained some head injury after hitting steering wheel.

While traveling at less than 1 mph, lightly struck the rear of the car in front of me. Air bags deployed.

While driving about 30 mph and rear ended another vehicle that stopped in front and air bags deployed. Consumer complained before incident to Ford about an open spot on steering wheel where consumer felt fire was coming from, that spot was where air bags deployed.

While vehicle was parked outside of a restaurant consumer came out and found out that air bags had deployed. Did not know what could had caused air bag to deployment without a crash to hit vehicle.

While traveling at 45 a truck pulled in front of consumer's vehicle, and consumer hit the truck. Upon impact, none of airbags deployed. The wire harness, motor mount, front and rear wheel bearings had failed and were replaced.

While driving 50 mph fell asleep, hit a guardrail and slid 5 miles, and then rear ended another vehicle which kept going. Crashed , and passenger's side was mashed in 3-4 inches. No injuries except bruises. Upon impact, neither air bag deployed.

Vehicle was stopped in traffic, and was rearended by another vehicle at about 40-50mph. Both airbags deployed. However, driver's airbag spilled chemicals on driver's hand and up to elbow. Driver received chemical burns.

When trying to aviod a crash with another vehicle, vehicle crashed into a fence post head-on, and there was no deployment of frontal air bags. Front end of vehicle was smashed back to radiator. Please provide any further information.

All I was wondering is I don't know why my air bags didn't go off.

Report written about 2000 Ford Focus. There was a three car accident. The air bags deployed, however the consumer did not remember being involved in a collision, the consumer stated the vehicle was at a stop. It was noted that the air bag system did have a previous problem where several contact pins in the electrical connector in the steering column were replaced.

Vehicle was involved in a frontal collision at 10 mph, and airbags did deploy. According to Ford representative, airbags are designed to deploy at greater than 14 mph.

While trying to make a left turn about 2 mph drove over curve and air bags deployed without a prior warning. The consumer was blinded by the sun and the right front tire nicked the curve causing the air bag to deploy.

Consumer was traveling about 40mph on highway and there was smoke coming from airbags. Also, seatbelt didn't work.

Consumer rented car from budget rent-a-car. While driving driver's air bag deployed.

While turning at a corner about 15 mph another vehicle came out of a lot, stricking consumer's vehicle on the right front. Upon impact, both air bags deployed violently and burned consumer hand. Consumer was taking to hospital.

I got an an accident with my 2000 Ford Focus, and the air bag severely burned my wrists.

Traveling 5-10mph when air bags went off before I hit other car. Caused 2nd and 3rd degree burnes to both people with no damage to out side of car.

Consumer was traveling about 5 mph inside of a parking lot and hit a bump, airbags went off and busted the windshield. Consumer sustained facial burns.

Front air bag did deploy when another vehicle coasted back and bumped front bumper of consumer's vehicle. Their was no physical damage to vehicle. Dealer has been contacted.

While being hit from back at 5-10mph air bag deployed.

Consumer called complaining about having problems with the air bags on the vehicle. Also stated that while driving the car at 15mph hit the vehicle on front of him and his air bags deployed causing phisical damage to the consumer. Dealer was contacted and stated that there was nothing that they could.

Vehicle was in bumper to bumper traffic and rear ended another vehicle at 10mph, and both airbags deployed and shattered the windshield. Dealer has not seen vehicle.

Consumer was driving 5-7 mph slid on we payement while abs was activating, and slighty hit vehicle in front. Dual air bags deployed, causings 2nd to 3rd degree burns on top of hand. Passenger hit windshield and dashboard. Please provide fuerther information.

The vehicle hit some trees, and none of the air bags deployed.

Upon accelerating from a stop both air bags deployed with no impact, and cause still unknown.

Air bags deployed with so much force during a crash that they broke the windshield.

I was in an accident in which I was travelling a low rate of speed (less than 10mph) and both air bags deployed. I received 2nd degree burns on my hand. There was only scratches on my front bumper, so I am concerned about why the air bags deployed.

While traveling 15 mph, as a result of an accident, the air bag deployed without indication. Please provide further informaton.
