Tl the contact called on behalf of his son who owns a 2012 Ford Focus. The contact stated his son was driving to the airport when the vehicle stalled and failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to his residence. The following day the vehicle was towed to charles gabus Ford (4545 merle hay rd, des moines, IA 50310) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the tcm needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired however, several months later the failure recurred with the transmission warning light illuminated. The contact stated that a message on the instrument display suggested that the vehicle be shifted to park. The vehicle was shifted into park, restarted, and driven to a nearby parking lot. The vehicle was then towed to the residence. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 66,000.

2 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2020

I bought this vehicle in 2018 and have had multiple issues with the powershift transmission. In relation to the faulty dps6 powershift dual-clutch automatic transmission, 2012-2016 Focus sedans and hatchbacks were affected. This vehicle has been into the Ford dealership multiple times to fix this issue, with no such luck. I was told that I can expect the transmission to continue with the shuddering, hesitation while downshifting, hesitation while accelerating, stalling, slipping, bucking, jerking. I spoke with the dealership that I purchased it from as well, and they directed me to Ford. Now, the transmission has gone completely out and the car is no longer drivable. I was driving down the road and got the warning that the transmission is overheating and it needs service. I spoke to the Ford dealership, however, in order to have the car looked at to see if it is covered under any warranty or recall, I need to pay the shop fees to get it diagnosed. Not sure where to go from here, and now I do not have a vehicle.

3 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2020

The transmission shutters and shakes very frequently. Vehicle also periodically will almost stall while driving. Overall the vehicle just feels incredibly unsafe and unreliable while operating.

4 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2020

While driving on the freeway around 6pm and taking an on ramp onto another freeway the Ford Focus stalled mid-drive and would not accelerate anymore or switch to higher gears when the accelerator was pressed. The Ford immediately could not go any faster than first gear and luckily we avoided an accident by pulling to the side of the freeway on ramp into the vegetation since there was no shoulder. There was no noise or indication that something had happened to the vehicle. The engine light came on and the vehicle just stopped driving in the middle of driving at around 50mph. It would not drive backwards when put into reverse and would rev up to extremely high rpm when the driver tried to move forwards or backwards. Towed the car to the mechanic the next day and they ran a diagnostic that came back with 5 error codes including: p0805, p087a, p2831, p2836, and p2861. A pin point test was performed and found that the voltage was at a consistent 5 volts, so they cleared the codes and took the vehicle for a test drive and it was fine again. The vehicle has about 79,000 miles. Attached will be the mechanics form along with what they said are several codes for related recalls that were supposedly already fixed.

7 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2020

My daughter has a used 2012 Ford Focus that has an outstanding recall for cpv problems. She has had two experiences where the vehicle loses power and she's unable to accelerate no matter how far she presses the gas pedal. Last week, 1/15/2019 the same issue happened on the freeway, while in motion, going approximately 65mph. Very dangerous! especially with fast moving traffic. She managed to get off the freeway and coast into a parking lot. We had the car towed to camelback Ford and we explained the situation and that after some research found there is an open recall on her car for a malfunctioning part/s that can cause the exact problems she's experiencing. They say okay, we'll get on it. Well, they called us today, 1/20/2020, a whole 5 days later, to say that she needs a new battery and other things like a wheel alignment and bearing replaced. No mention of the recall repair being done. When asked they said they couldn't repair because they were unable to replicate the problem or find a code for it. So needless to say, she's been without her car for 5 days and the recall repair wasn't even done, and they come at use for other "repairs". Right now we are more concerned for the safety aspect of the car stalling out while in motion. After chatting with a Ford customer service rep. , who by the way says repairs should be done whether the issue is detectable or not, we have to take it to a second dealer and hope they make the necessary repairs. We can do a wheel bearings and alignment once the more critical safety repairs are done.

8 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2019

When idling - my Ford Focus will often randomly accelerate, after a few moments it then bottoms out completely, nearly stalling. This also happens when I'm braking instead of decelerating it will accelerate and jerk the car terribly straining the brakes making it harder to stop.

9 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2019

High rpms died in flight stalling jerking.

10 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

Car shutters and stalls. Not much power. Had tcm repaired and the dual clutch multiple times.

11 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/27/2019

After being stopped at a traffic light on the highway, my vehicle began acting as if it did not want to get up to speed and would not go above 35mph without dramatically jolting forward. It did this a couple of times before swerving a bit and finally stalling completely, pressing the gas would do nothing to get the car to speed up. I did manage to get it to a side road before having it towed to the dealer.

12 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2019

The engine light randomly came on. The car stalled while driving. Came to a stop. Was slow to start back up and was jerking/stuttering the rest of the way. Multiple auto body shops diagnosed my 2012 Ford Focus was transmission failure.

13 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/28/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. While driving, the vehicle stalled in the middle of the highway and the check engine indicator illuminated. The contact was able to coast the vehicle to the side of the road. When the vehicle was powered off and restarted, the vehicle drove normally. On another occasion, while attempting to drive the vehicle, it failed to start. The vehicle was taken to rogel Ford (located at 26167 ms-27, crystal springs, ms 39059, (601) 892-3673) where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Furthermore, the front driver side door failed to close. The vehicle was taken back to rogel Ford where the door was repaired, but not diagnosed. The contact was informed by the dealer that they also reprogrammed the power train module. The contact stated that the fuel gauge would show full when it was supposed to be at half a tank. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and stated that rogel Ford repaired the vehicle per NHTSA campaign number: 18v735000 (fuel system, gasoline). No further assistance was offered. The approximate failure mileage was 159,000.

14 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/13/2019

My husband was driving the car to work on the interstate shortly after 6am in the pouring rain. Traffic was moving at roughly 65 miles an hour. As two highways were merging together, his vehicle lost power. Rpm's went high but vehicle would not accelerate. He put on flashers and proceeded to coast into right hand lanes, but only had enough power to land in the gore, which is the v where two highways come together. He turned the vehicle off and tried to restart, but it would not restart. It took 1 and 1/2 hours for rescue vehicle to arrive while traffic sped by on both sides of him, leading him to believe he was living his last moments. Horrifying! courtesy patrol got my husband to safety, tow truck retrieved vehicle and took it to dealership. They said that essentially, the transmission shifted into neutral as he drove down the highway and there was nothing he could have done to stop it. They replaced the f module-transmission control at n/c, and also performed unrelated pcm update for a recall. We traded off the vehicle yesterday. Transmission had been repaired numerous times for shaking or stalling.

15 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2019

Had 2 issues with dual-clutch transmission since buying the vehicle. Clutch was replaced on may 13th, 2019 for my 2012 Ford Focus. I was stuck on the highway twice for this occurrence with the vehicle jerking while in motion then the "check engine" light coming on and the car stalling out. The vehicle then came to a stop and could not be restarted. The cost of the repair was 2667. 46 dollars to replace the clutch. The previous time was due to a problem with the transmission control module but was fixed with no issues.

Failure Date: 03/22/2019

Stalling deading and shattering power lose engine light.

17 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2019

Tl- the contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, while at a stop light and to go making a left turned, the gear shifter failed to shift gears, the vehicle stalled. The transmission warning light illuminated. The contact coasted to the side of the road and powered off the engine. The vehicle was restarted and was able to drive normal, however the failure recurred a few miles down the road. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for a diagnostic testing. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 18v735000 (fuel system, gasoline). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact to take the vehicle to a dealer and did not offer further assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 130,510. Aw.

19 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2019

I have been complaining of and dealing with a engine/transmission issue since purchasing this vehicle. I was told several times by my dealership that it is just the type of gas sipping engine the car has and it is normal. I am 50 years old and never had a car that responded as poorly this one has but also never had a car with special type of engine. It has stalled while entering an intersection a couple of times, lacks pick up sometimes or jolts (like transmission issues) when going from stopped position. It will sometimes jolts going up hills while car is switching gears as well at a normal back road speed. An engine recall was put out several months ago with no remedy yet. Now the engine light is coming on sometimes (after just having the car serviced and gone through for fluids, etc). My car has 50k miles on it only and is being driven by my son now. I am worried about the safety but don't want to sell it with open recalls and the lemon laws here in MA. I feel like I am stuck with a lemon myself. I want to know what timeframe they will be given to come up with a fix before someone is killed?.

20 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/12/2019

Tl the contact owns a 2012 Ford Focus. The contact stated that the power steering was faulty and the steering wheel seized, which made it difficult to turn. Also, when the vehicle was started and the contact shifted into drive, the vehicle automatically went in reverse. The contact had to immediately engage the parking brake. Also, while the vehicle was parked on the street, it rolled backwards due to the parking position. Furthermore, while attempting to reverse, the vehicle stalled. Also, the door latches were loose and in danger of becoming detached. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was towed multiple times. The vehicle was taken to ted russell Ford (9925 parkside dr, knoxville, TN 37922, (865) 444-6467) and serviced multiple times for each failure; however, each failure remained except for the power steering failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failures and did not assist. The failure mileage was 130,000.

21 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2019

I received a recall notice a few months ago and I was told that I would receive another letter in about 3 months once the necessary parts were in stock. I hadn't received the follow up letter so I called my local Ford dealer and I was told that the parts were on back order but I could set up an appointment to have my vehicle inspected for corrosion to determine if I even needed the parts. The earliest appointment I could get was may 18th, just for the inspection; not even for the actual repairs. The recall is for the fuel vapor system and there's a warped part that is causing an inaccurate reading on fuel levels which means I have to maintain at least a half tank of gas at all times. My car is now leaking gas and stalling in traffic due to the issue. I live in a city with lots of steep inclines and hills and I have to avoid certain streets because my car has stalled and almost caused accidents. There is only one Ford dealer in my area. The only other dealer is about 30-40 minutes away.

22 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2018

Bought 2012 Ford Focus on 3/2016. 5/2016 took back to dealership for stuck window d/t bad motor and reprogramming of transmission control module. 7/2016 car would not start at all, completely stalled out. Took to Ford dealership again. . . Transmission computer/module replaced. 12/2018 car stalled yet again and steering would not work nor would shifter. . . Transmission garage stated they fixed issue. 8 hours later, the car would not run at all. Transmission place refused to touch the car again. Called original dealership and ofcourse, they replaced the transmission control module. And expect us to pay for it again this time! plus the dealership will not replace car until most recent recall is fixed on it. Like hell will I put my 2 children and husband back in this car with the chance of it to stall again and crash. We reside 40 miles away from work so a total of a 1/2 tank of gas at one time is not feasible in western new york weather. 5 transmission problems and how many recalls later and Ford motor company will not do anything to make their wrongs right.

23 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 10/29/2018

My car has stalled out 3 times in 2 days. Once while parked after filling the tank with gas. I had turned the engine off to fill the tank, and then it took three attempts with sluggish turnover to start. The next time, I was in idle at a red light and the engine suddenly died. I was able to restart. The third time, I was in the middle of a turn in a downtown area and I lost compression and nothing happened when I pressed the accelerator. The engine light on the dashboard came on and I was able to coast to the shoulder and restarted my car. This morning the engine light was still on. I do not feel comfortable driving my vehicle.

24 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2018

Takata recall, first off is the driver door comes unlocked while driving, also had a door lock and wasn't able to close. My 2012 Focus feels like it's got no power alot of times or will start to spudder from every stop. Does same when reversing out of a drive way. Sometimes it seems like it wants to stall, I have the automatic. It revs at really high rpms like it needs to shift but doesn't. Probably have more issues the longer I keep it, I believe the huffines dealership, the company that financed and Ford knew these things could and did happen to the car I was sold. Single father with a 4 year old son just trying to get this fixed nothing about this is safe.

25 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2018

26 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2018

While driving my transmission/engine will cut out for 1 second causing the car to lurch forward and stall for a brief second, then it resumes driving normal. Other times the engine will shutter/ sound like it's almost going to stall out, especially when slowing down or accelerating from a rolling or stopped position. Often these occur on city streets.
