I have had nothing but issues with this car since I got it 5 years ago. I was leaving to take my son to a dr appointment. I got about a mile down the road and the service engine now pops up. A loud pop sound came thru my speakers and the radio stopped working. Then I started losing rpms and power to my car it wouldn't go over 10mph. I was able to limp it back home very slowly. I'm not sure what's going on I've replaced the crankshaft/camshaft sensor and purge valve. I've had all the recalls fixed on it dealing with the transmission and clutch about 2 years ago. When Ford made this car they clearly wasn't thinking straight. This car is not safe and I'm so glad we made it back home safe my child was terrified. Nothing but a money pit and I don't have a lot of money to keep putting in a car that keeps having the same issues over and over.
When the car is in park or I'm driving on the road. The radio will abruptly go out, with a loud noise. Then it's silent, and abruptly you hear popping and loud static noises. It is a road hazard, because this loud static noice comes and goes; and when it happens it makes you jump. It take you Focus off the road, because you're trying to turn the radio down or off, but it's already off and nothing working. So you wait for it to stop. I did take my car into a dealership and had it inspected, they said it was the whole front component (radio/ ac) cost about $650. There's no way of just disconnecting just the radio, because it's also wired with some dash lights and the ac. There are also many other people struggling with this problem.
The vehicle sound system, radio, is making a loud popping noise, even when the radio is off and the radio is not working. My mother, owner of the vehicle is 79. This loud popping noise, is startling, which causes her to panic, which in my opinion is a safety factor. I've read on the internet that this is happening to many Ford models including hers. The Ford dealer states it is $105 just for them to trouble shoot. I've read also on the internet that dealers fix one component of the sound system, which works for a little while, then the issue returns, only to replace another component and on and on. My 79 year old mother does not have that kind of money, and will be sucked dry, if this happens to her. So our delima is to not do anything because of money, and take the chance on her having an accident cause of the startleing effect, which turns into panic, and possible an accident. We feel this is a safety issue. And would appreciate a resolution. Once again the popping noise comes from the radio system, the radio does not work and the sound happens when the radio is on or off. This issue has been going on for almost a month.
At 38,500 miles radio would randomly make loud popping and static noises now a few months later the radio quit all together. Fuses are good.
While driving a loud static and popping noise started happening coming from the speakers. It startled me and I had to pull over on the highway because it was so loud and hurt my ears and my child's ears. When I pulled over I pushed the button to turn off the radio but the noise kept on going. I then turned the car off and it was still making the loud noises. We got out the car because it was very loud and over whelming and waited until it stopped. When we got back in and I started the car up the radio seem to be fine. I was wrong. It happen again this time I turned the car off and had to open the door and when I started it back up it was fine. The radio kept doing this and the loud noises are very scary and could cause some one to be startled while driving and cause an accident or for those of us that may have someone with a disability like autism that loud noises can have a negative affect / reaction on is not healthy. There are several videos on the internet that will show this is happening to several people and Ford isn't doing anything but forcing us to pay to have the whole head unit replaced and we cant afford that. They should consider this a safety issue as loud as the static and popping gets plus it keeps going even after the car is off. I called the dealership and the place where I got my car to see what can be done and they say I have to pay for it to be replaced and I dont have money to pay for the diagnostic and deductible to have it fixed.
Many problems with this Ford Focus. 1st problem I had was a year after I bought the vehicle the fuel pump was leaking. I notice because my car was parked and it smelled like gasoline inside the vehicle. 2nd incident happened a year later. I was driving home from work when car just shut off on the road. I was so scared. I was in notion barely move to the side of the road on rt 50. That was so scary I could have died. I had to tow the car to get serviced at sheehy Ford. They gave me the car back again and it happened again on the road on my way to work. At that time I towed it again but to koons falls church. Looked at the vehicle and didn't find anything either until I got upset and they told me to go for a test drive with the mechanic and it happened while on the test drive. The mechanic stated to keep the car running so he can plug in the machine that reads the problems on the vehicle. He also stated that once you turn of the car and you turn it back on that it would reset it self and that's why they didn't know that tcm or tmc control needed to be replaced. This was very scary for me. Now for the passed 3 weeks I have been dealing with a static /popping noise /sound that comes from the vehicle when I'm driving & when the vehicle is parked, the key is out the ignition. I took it to sheehy since that's where I bought the vehicle. They provide the worst service on the vehicle. Bcuz they had my car for 4 days and didn't provide me with a loaner and had the audacity to tell me that the master tech was on vacation and I would have to wait still with no loaner vehicle. The radio is completely off and they want me to pay out of pocket to fix it. It has just given me problem after problem is manufactured problems. I had so many safety issues that scared me. Car shutting off on the road and now making loud popping/ static noise where I thought I might be electrocuted.
The vehicle's clutch has been replaced twice it stutters/hesitates, makes grinding noises, etc. And still does since second repair, radio made popping, static skrecking sounds that got worse over time to the point of happening all the time and made radio useless, purge valve failed and could have destroyed gas tank and fuel pump if not dealt with which thankfully I did. These are all known issues with this vehicle thousands of similar complaints online.
While driving residential streets at approximately 25mph, the car sounded an unfamiliar warning tone along with the message "stop safely now" - at which point, I coasted the car to a stop (unfortunately this happened to be in the middle of an intersection). Even though I had no throttle control at this point, the car refused to shut down after multiple presses of the "start" button. I eventually took my foot off the brake, hit "start" again, opened the door and this seemed to cycle the car to "off" mode. I then tried again to start the car and it worked - after about 10 seconds of driving the "stop safely now" error came on again. I pulled over this time and shut the car down for 10 minutes - I was able to later drive the car home. Waited an hour and decided to have my wife video tape me while driving incase this happened again. . The error occured 3 more times and is all on tape - all while coming to a stop or accelerating from a stop. I shudder to think what would happen if this occurred on my normal commute on the carpool lanes of the 405 or 110 -or worse, decided to power down in the middle of a left hand turn!- this would be a huge liability and safety risk for myself and family. The car is currently with Ford and I'm in a rental until we have a resolve - I didn't find out until after signing a 3 year lease that this is now a well known issue (at least to the NHTSA and on many Ford forums and in articles on the internet) it's an amazing car and I hope Ford figures this out very quickly.
