Tl the contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. The contact stated that while driving 80 mph, the vehicle loss power steering and a stop safely warning message was displayed on the instrument panel. The contact stated that excessive force was needed to steer the vehicle to the side of the highway. A highway patrol officer arrived on the scene to assist with moving the vehicle to the shoulder of the highway. A tow truck was called and the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The contact was informed that the microchip connected to the power steering failed and needed to be replaced. Upon investigation, the contact linked the failure to NHTSA campaign number: 14v514000 (steering) however, the VIN was not included. The contact later went to larry h. Miller super Ford (1340 500 w, salt lake city, ut 84115) where she was informed to schedule an appointment for the vehicle to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The contact was referred to NHTSA for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.
Power steering failed while driving.
My 16 year old daughter was driving in her 2014 Ford Focus se on the interstate. I was a passenger as she only has her learners permit. All the sudden she complained the vehicle was hard to steer. I saw her having a physically hard time steering the vehicle. I looked at the dashboard and saw the power steering assist failure indicator icon (electronic power assist steering - epas)activated on the dashboard. My daughter continued to struggle to maintain the vehicle safely due to the power steering issue. She drove to the nearest exit which was even worse than the highway. She had trouble steering through the "s" turns on the exit ramp. She came to the intersection, luckily the light was green and she didn't have to stop to turn right, but it wasn't much help. While turning onto another two lane highway she almost hit the concrete medium due to the epas failure. Watching her drive the vehicle reminded me when I drove my grandfathers old Dodge dart; no power steering. I understand.

Power steering failure, the power steering locked up one day when I went to the store,I started the car& the power steering was locked and extremly hard to steer, I finally drove it home which was about 15 miles, I had to drive very slow because it was very hard to steer, the car was parked in a store parking lot and when I returned to the car it was very heavy to turn the wheel I was afraid to drive it home but I didnt want to leave it overnight in a store parking lot. . .
Power steering failure. Needs total replacement. Vehicle only has 46,000 miles. I was lucky I was not driving it, when it went out. I am guessing the temp that day had something to do with it. Temp was 85 that day.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Focus. While driving 55 mph, the steering wheel seized and the steering assist warning indicator illuminated. The contact pulled over, turned off and restarted the vehicle, but the power steering failed to reset. The vehicle was able to be driven without power steering. The vehicle was taken to currie motors Ford of valpo (2052 w morthland dr, valparaiso, in 46385, (219) 464-3523) where it was diagnosed that the strut and pinion in the power steering needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer informed her not to drive the vehicle because the front wheels would turn in different directions. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not assist. The failure mileage was 41,000.
Electric failure of power steering. I was told that there was a "short" that caused the power steering mechanism to fail. Less than 3 years and 48k miles. Sudden failure with total loss of power steering.

Power steering failure and hesitation, shuddering in transmission. Reported on 6/17/16 for previous failure incident on 5/13/16. Dealer had repaired vehicle under warranty bur repairs failed to work . New incident that occurred on 6/14/16. Internet search indicated class action lawsuits have been filed against Ford for both the steering problem and transmission problem, nhtsb appears to have already opened an investigation. Still waiting for repairs to be made.
On 5/13/16 power assisted steering failed. Vehicle very difficult to steer. Vehicle was towed to auto dealer. Also transmission shuddering, choking etc. No accident or damage occurred because of these at that time but elevated risk of an accident. Repairs for both made by dealer under warranty.
2014 Ford Focus with ** miles. Electronic power steering failed while driving at speed on the highway. Steering was very difficult to use, far more difficult than a hydraulic vehicle with a power steering failure. It felt as if something was locked up inside the steering column. Car was unsafe to drive.
There were four incidents on my brand new 2014 Ford Focus leading up to complete electric power assist steering failure. I bought the car new on a Saturday evening. I drove it everyday since then. I drove it about 100 miles Saturday night, then another 100 on Sunday. Monday afternoon I left for work. My drive consists of about two miles from my residence to the expressway then 18 miles highway and less than a mile to the parking lot off the exit. As I got off the exit I got into the left turning lane which crosses two sets of railroad tracks and takes a long swooping left hand turn to a light. Then the parking lot is about a half mile up on the right. Accelerating over the tracks and in mid turn the steering assist fault service required warning light illuminated in the information box on the cluster. I had no power steering up until I got in the parking lot, turned the vehicle off, opened the door, waited a minute, then started the car back and it reset. Then two days later, Wednesday, the same scenario repeated itself and once again on Friday. Then Saturday evening I drove the car to a restaurant for dinner about 25 miles from the house, mostly highway, with no issues. Once we left the restaurant and got back into town the steering failed accelerating around a turn from a stop light about 10 miles from the restaurant. Once we arrived at the ice cream parlor and then left again, it reset. We left the parlor and about 10 miles from the parlor I stopped at a red light, went to accelerate from the light, did not turn in either direction, drive path was straight, and noticed the warning light appear again with no power steering the rest of the way home. Once we arrived home I assumed that it would reset, however the next morning (Sunday) I went to start it and the first thing that popped up was the warning light again and I haven't had power steering since then.
