I am reporting a safety-related defect in my 2017 Ford Focus equipped with the powershift dual-clutch (dps6) transmission. The vehicle has experienced ongoing transmission and clutch-related issues, including shuddering, jerking, hesitation from a stop, delayed engagement, and unpredictable acceleration behavior. These issues are most noticeable in low-speed driving, stop-and-go traffic, and when accelerating from a complete stop. The clutch has previously required replacement/repair, yet the same drivability problems persist. The vehicle continues to jerk and hesitate in a way that makes it unsafe to enter intersections, merge into traffic, or drive in congested conditions. I have been informed that further repairs are not cost-effective and that the transmission/clutch issues are likely to continue despite repair attempts. Being advised that the vehicle is “not worth repairing” due to this known transmission design is concerning and suggests a systemic defect rather than normal wear. I am aware that Ford has faced widespread complaints, investigations, and class-action litigation related to similar powershift dual-clutch transmission failures in earlier model years. Although my 2017 model year was excluded from the settlement, the symptoms and behavior of my vehicle are consistent with the same known defect pattern. The condition appears to be worsening over time and presents a clear safety risk due to hesitation, sudden engagement, and loss of driver control during normal driving situations.
?unknown- transmition seem to slip or acted like stalling or about to die. Would jerk forward and shutter till finally would not start after being turned off. So had it towed because would not start again. ?myself and others in my 2017 Ford Focus titanium edition were traveling over a bridge at the time of the incident and very well have stalled out or quit running in the middle of traffic on a bridge causing a collision or worse loss of life ?no- no service center has addressed the issue not due to me not trying but merely, nothing's been done from where I've taken it to ?no- at the moment that is not required as of yet. ?yes- the forward jerking and shuttering started a couple of years every now and then, until it turned into such a severe situation. ?no - no signs signals lights or anything on the dash showed any kind of sign of anything wrong with the vehicle.
My 2017 Ford Focus is grounded due to the oil pump safety recall involving loss of oil pressure and engine stall. Ford is refusing to provide alternate transportation unless I pay out of pocket. As a result, I am unable to work and have no safe transportation while Ford repairs a known safety defect. I have already missed an entire week of work due to their negligence, and they are unwilling to help.
My rear view camera only works about 15% of the time. I get a little dust on it and it's useless. You recalled a bunch of older Ford models today but not on my vehicle despite it being the exact same camera as on the fusion model. I've been waiting for this recall for years and am greatly disappointed. Same thing happened with the bad transmission issue previously. The transmission skips just like all the other models that got recalled and you did nothing for the 2017 Ford Focus. Extremely disappointed in this inaction.
4 issues: 1. The car pulls back under acceleration. 2. The seat moves back suddenly (seat belt issue). 3. When starting the car, the car drives instead of reversing. 4. There is a squeaky noise.
I started driving and the car seemed to act rough. I went up a small hill and I had almost no power halfway up. The car showed the symbol of the little car that looks like it is sliding. I had to chug up the rest of the hill fighting the car itself because there was no where else to go. It kept revving but went no more than about ten mph. Once I got over the top I pulled into someone's driveway so I could get back home. I was unable to reverse. The car just revved. I had to turn off the car, put it in neutral, and push the car backwards out of the driveway. I was able to start the car and nurse it home, but it jumped and revved the entire time. I tried to use down hills to my advantage and barely paused at stop signs for fear of getting stuck on the road. I got to my house and parked. Now the car only starts when it wants to. I checked codes and got p287a for the clutch. I haven't called Ford for service options yet because I really don't know what to do and have no idea how I'd get there. I think this car should have been included in the powertrain recall because this came out of nowhere.
Tcm transmission control module failed and im being told that my year isn't covered under a recall when other models are it left my family stranded untill I could limp my car home.
I was on my way home from work when my oil light came on and I began losing acceleration on a busy highway. It wouldn't let me go above 20 mph which was definitely unsafe due to the nature of traffic on the highway. I managed to pull over and get my car towed to the most recent place I had an oil change. After a few days, they stated that the vehicle had sustained a loss of engine oil pressure and that there was a recall for this issue. They also stated to contact Ford and that the vehicle was undriveable. When I checked the open recalls, I confirmed that there was indeed a recall open for this issue concerning the oil pump, however, Ford motors state that they will not have the parts available until 1st quarter 2025. This is puts the timeframe on a remedy at roughly 3-7 months, which is unacceptable as this is my only vehicle and the only way I am able to get to work.
Car lost power in the middle of the road, pulled over and it seemed fine when I checked it but as I drove off again the engine fault light came on and it started overheating and said to pull over immediately to not damage the engine. Afterwards, it’s not able to start at all. It’s been at the Ford dealership ever since awaiting Ford to fix the problem, meanwhile I’m stuck making payments on a car that is undriveable with no idea of when I will be able to drive it again.
The clutch on my 2017 Ford Focus needs to be replaced due to it slipping/shuttering when I go to accelerate.
Transmission problems. I’ve almost wrecked a few times from my car stalling in intersections. First it had a delay in shifting where it would stall out before jolting into gear. Now it will not switch gears at all and is not driveable. I’ve been told that it is probably the tcm malfunctioning, but Ford did not extend the warranty on my test vehicle. They stopped it at 2016 models, claiming that 2017 onward the issue was fixed. Wrong. Countless searches online will tell you countless drivers have issues with their tcm going out. I was almost in a few different wrecks due to this problem(almost being hit in an intersection bc I couldn’t move) and now my car isn’t driveable and I cannot afford to replace the tcm right now. I feel scammed by Ford making such a crappy transmission system that is dangerous and unreliable. Problem confirmed by local transmission shop. I received no warnings on dash leading up to these issues.
The check engine light came on, then when I started driving it was a little sticky/ rough. I continued to drive it home and the rpm started going up when not needed. I had a code read done and came back as a p07a3, transmission friction element a stuck on.
Vehicles dual clutch transmission dry clutch overheats causing the transmission to stop shifting.
My Focus has been having the same problems with the transmission/power train as other Focuses that have already been recalled. My car can’t get out of first gear.
The recall that Ford has out on Focus’s between 2012-2018 is exactly the problems my 2017 Ford Focus is having, where it stalls constantly and won’t turn on after. I’ve tried filing with only premium gas, keeping my tank full and it is still happening. I’ve had my vehicle towed multiple times. I’ve had the canister purge valve replaced and am still having issues.
Car is now shutting off while driving. It shut off on me 3 times almost causing several accidents. I called a Ford dealership about current recall and was told I would be charged for a diagnostic and have to pay out of pocket.
2017 Ford Focus; cnp valve issues; previous safety recall 19s22 was issued in 2019. The dealership where car was purchased performed recall; deformation of tank in Nov 2019. The 2017 Ford Focus never really idled very well even after recall was performed by dealership in 2019, as well as; increased rpm and sluggish at acceleration. Then early June 2023 fuel gauge was reading 44 miles to empty; so stopped to fill gas tank. Turned car off completely had keys in pocket; immediately after filling the gas tank the Ford Focus would not start; eventually able to start vehicle by continuous attempts and then finally punching the gas pedal once car was started kept car running for at least 40 minutes. Performed obd scan shortly after which gave error code po456. Recall 19s22 clearly states that a obd scan of po456 could very well be a cnp valve issue. Contacted dealership and made appt for 6/20/2023; at which time the dealership stated that recall has already been performed for the 2017 Ford Focus in Nov 2019. Contacted Ford motor company; who then stated that they are aware of the cnp issue but since there is no current recall that they are not liable and to contact NHTSA.
The vehicle has an intermittent problem that causes it to lose power, become unresponsive, and leave the occupants vulnerable to a collision if it becomes necessary to accelerate from cross traffic or to be rear ended due to rapid deceleration. At random intervals usually daily the check engine light will begin to flash and pressing the throttle the driver will find that the vehicle will not accelerate. This condition last typically 30 seconds, during that time the vehicle is essentially coasting along under simple inertia. Then as suddenly as it began the light turns off and the car returns to normal. My vehicle experienced catastrophic failure during one such episode resulting in a thrown rod in cylinder number 3, the vehicle had the engine replaced under warranty at a cost of $12,000. After the car was returned I found that it continued to experience the same problem, returned to the place that installed the engine and they weren't able to repair the problem. Was directed to take to temecula Ford, they required I allow their technician to drive the vehicle home nightly over 40 miles each direction and after 2 weeks weren't able to supposedly recreate the problem. I picked the car up with nothing to show but extra miles. Immediately the problem once again began, I scanned the ecu and took screen shots and data recordings to provide the dealer. Directed to return the car, they had it another week and despite having the provided information stated they couldn't duplicate the issue. Decided to take it to another local dealership, they had it a week and stated the problem was caused by using ngk spark plugs instead of motorcraft plugs. I informed them they were installed with the new engine and they required I purchase their spark plugs. I paid $400 for plugs and picked the vehicle up, the problem persisted. I was however given a refund. Still can't use the car, Ford corporation refused to do anything for me.
The vehicle kept getting slower and slower was not able to use six gear had a hard time going up hills would lose its power engine light came on when I would get gas the car would not start afterwards went to a dealership on 5/6/20-23 and found out there were three codes that came up one was for a misfire detected on startup another was unable to bleed up fuel tank vacuum and a third was internal controls model sstart stop performance.
I went to pull into traffic and when I pushed on the gas to hurry it just did a jumping stuttering type of thing. I almost got hit, it’s like it just doesn’t want to engage right away and I don’t know if it’s the clutch or transmission. Hills are also an issue, just jerks and jumps trying to go into a gear. I was told this car would not have the same problem as the previous years but I am very upset and lucky I didn’t get killed. Thank you my number is (434) 444-0503.
Engine light just went on.
Transmission stopped working at 63,777 miles. I was in a freeway when this occurred. Car had to be towed back home. Repair shop wants $8800 to put in a new transmission. Ford extended the warrantee up to 2016 models but refused to extend the 2017 model.
I am requesting an investigation as to the matter at hand; this letter contains all specifics as related to the vehicle and from the time of purchase to now. The vehicle is currently not in operable conditions and it can be identified as a 2017 Ford Focus se 4 cylinders 2 2. 0l di dohc 122 cid. There was a lawsuit for this car prior and there was a judgment rendered for issues with the vehicle, new issues have arisen since the lawsuit. On or about 9/19/2022 however on or about 10/9/2022 plaintiff began experiencing issues with the car. On or about 10/16/2022 a mechanic diagnosed the car with having issues of p07a3 and p2872 and that labor would be about $600. 00 not including parts. Subsequently, the vehicle is not currently running. If you request more information from me I can send it, however, please redact any sensitive information.
Shudder upon acceleration due to faulty clutch pack. Even when replaced under warranty the faulty clutch presents the same problem. Causes all kinds of unknown problems when the car fails to accelerate and/or the clutch assembly fails. Problem has been confirmed multiple times by Ford dealer. Been inspected by the manufacturer- Ford and deemed unsafe and needing immediate repair. No warning lamps, messages, etc. Car will just do that with no warning.
Was advised during service at the Ford dealership that I purchased the vehicle new from, that lug nuts were compromised and needed to be replaced. Was told the lug nuts had expanded and softened and were compromised. This is a safety issue. Wheel could come off of axel at anytime.
The transmission on this vehicle has failed, due to the computer system, or a small chip part (so I have been told. ) I have been told by mutiple mechanics that it is the same transmission issue that the 2011-2016 models experienced. I was driving the vehicle when the transmission failed, almost causing me to wreck the vehicle on the interstate.
Transmission failure, car shudders when starting from take off, will not go forward while in gear, engine light came on, would not go into reverseye, I could have been rear ended struck, unknown if anything else was an issue.
There is an app by Ford, its called Ford pass. When I install the app, I have to provide the VIN of my vehicle. When I open the app, I am told that there is a recall on my vehicle. When I touch the recall icon, there is text that says that I am to pay to have this recalled performed. This does not seem right to me.
11/23/21 with 1/2 tank of gas and auto start/stop engaged vehicle died while stopped at traffic light. Filled tank at station on corner of said traffic light. Car started rough after refueling. Drove 1/4 mile, car died again at traffic light. Drove about one mile, car died while stopped at light. Went another 1/4 mile, stopped at light car died. Each time the battery and other usual icons lit up on dashboard so it was not the auto stop. Disengaged the auto start/stop and car did not die the rest of the way home. This is the second separate stalling issue in less than a week. The code p1450, unable to bleed up fuel tank vacuum / purge valve canister was diagnosed. Car to be repaired on 11/29/21. This is a recall for Ford with 2. 0 engines but not 1. 0 engines. As this is the exact fuel issue in recalls and nothing to do with engine this should be covered in the recall.
Traveling 30-35 mph, car jerked 5-6 times. Approximately 1/8 mile further got in to the middle turn lane and started to turn when car stalled in the middle of the road. Was able to coast into driveway and then I was able to restart car. Check engine light came on and has stayed on. Auto on/off switch was engaged but did not turn off vehicle at stop sign, where I waited to pull out, directly preceding stalling incident. Mechanic pulled the code p1450 for 'unable to bleed up fuel tank vacuum' and also a purge valve issue. I believe both of these issues have been recall items on the Focus but for a 2. 0 liter not the 1. 0 liter that my vehicle is. I find this issue extremely dangerous & unacceptable that it is not a recall on my car too. I will fix ASAP as I am scared to drive it now especially on the freeway.
After a full stop at a high way exit, I turned left into a local road at about 10mph. Suddenly, my vehicle showed a message "stop safely now", at this same time I found my vehicle completely lost its power. It did not even have the power for me pull over. I had to stop and block the traffic. I tried several times to restart the vehicle by turning off the power and then turning on again, but without success. I waited for another 5 minutes and tried again, suddenly, the engine light was on again and the vehicle gained its power. I resumed my trip. I searched internet, and found that "about 2,600 Focus electrics built between sept. 15th, 2011 to Aug. 8th, 2013 at Ford's michigan assembly plant in wayne have finally been recalled due to the 'stop safely now' problem. " my model is Focus electrics 2017.
This vehicle has had 3 transmissions replaced within the 36,000/3 year warranty. It now has 46,000 miles on it,no warranty and is need of another transmission replacement,as it shudders violently, stalls or surges upon stopping. I have reached out to Ford motor CO. And no one will offer any type of help for repairs,or in getting me out of this death trap and into a safer vehicle,as they are well aware of the known issues per class action lawsuits. My only other option at this point is to file bankruptcy on this vehicle unless you can help me.
Dual clutch failure code po706.
Where the rear tail-light assembly mate with the car body there is a rubber seal/gasket in between the screw of the assembly and the hole on the car body, to prevent water leaking into the car. The rubber seal goes bad quickly, and water leak into the trunk while parked and cause water damage to all the components around and in the spare wheel wells. This also mean it can cause water damage to car body prematurely. Ford does not even sell this rubber seal to resolve the issue and if water leak into car and cause damage the only way to solve it is to buy a whole brand new tail light assembly.
I was driving the car and it says transmission hot than shuts off. I got it towed to the dealer. I got a diagnostic done too it states it's the clutch.
