2 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 07/15/2020

Power steering assist, failure: engine failure to start: power brake assist, failure: transmission control module, failure: clutch failure and shift roughness:. Car unuseable for three years without because of parts inavailability: this type even happened mutiple times because of the transmission control module failure. The first sign of problems was shuddring and rough shifting beginning with about 30,000 miles on the vehicle multiple trips to the Ford dealerships resulted in unsatisfactory action by Ford motor company to repair the problem the result was safety problems like stalling and losing power steering and brake assist in traffic. It displayed multiple system failure warnings when it failed, steering asist, brake assist, abs, transmission position light was in park while driving. We tried to get repairs done but they just kicked it down the road till we fought with the car to get 160,000 miles out of it because there was no other choice and they denied there was a problem. It was completely unserviceable beginning on the shown date because the clutch control and transmission control module have been faulty, it has started a few times but will not shift properly and the clutch is faulty because of the control module being bad. We paid to have the control module replaced when it became available, but the vehicle is not servicable because the clutch and flywheel are damaged from the module being faulty. This should have been a safety recall as soon as the problem was discovered, but it was hidden and the owners of these vehicles have had to deal with it over the last 10 years. Any of these cars on the road are just as dangerous as this one it. Is still at the shop 4 months after they tried to patch it awaiting the determination of whether a clutch recall will fix it or not. These owners of these cars are driving time bombs if they are not able to react to the problems listed in traffic.

4 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2016 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 01/17/2020

For the last couple years, my transmission in my 2016 Ford Focus has stalled upon nearly all attempts to accelerate from a stop. On January, 17 2020 I returned to my car from the library in irvine, CA to discover that upon turning the ignition, the car did not start. I tried a couple more times and my windshield wipers went on one time and stopped, the lights on my dashboard lit up, the media screen lit up and the interior car lights came on. I called aaa, my insurance carrier, despite it not appearing to be a battery issue. The representative stayed on the phone with me after I explained the issue and tried to schedule roadside assistance. I tried the ignition one more time and the car started. A notification on the dash screen appeared reading "transmission service required" and remained on the screen for a second before disappearing. Usually if a dash notification appears, the small icon light will remain lit while I operate the vehicle, this icon light did not remain on. My insurance representative explained that an issue with a transmission would need a tow and it may be unsafe to operate my vehicle on the road. I sat in my car for a minute and noticed my average mpg had changed from 33. 3 to 0. 0. I drove the car home as I needed to leave the location to tend to other parts of my day. I arrived safely to my destination. The following day, the exact same situation occurred when I attempted to start my car and leave for the day. Turning the ignition several times did not work, the windshield wipers came on once, the transmission notice appeared and disappeared and the average mpg was at 0. 0 again. This time, the car notified my that I had 0 miles until empty, despite the gas tank containing well over a quarter fill. The gas notification disappeared and the miles to empty section changed back to 175 miles until empty. I have not driven my vehicle since this occurred.

5 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

For at least the last three years the vehicle experienced short periods of non-starting. In October, 2019 the car would not start period. Previous it was able to start after moving the shifter from park to drive and back and sometime using the remote start. The October issue required towing to north county Ford in vista, CA. After five days, it was determined the transmission had failed and needed repalcement. After replacement the non-starting issue resolved, but in the last three weeks it has returned. I have not had any issues while the vehicle is moving.

9 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2017 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/19/2019

Car will not start. Will respond to a jump but will not start after running for awhile again. Then it starts with a bit of hesitation for awhile and then back to needing a jump. When at a stop and accelerating, there is a huge pause before the rpms kick in then it goes all the way to max before calming down to where it should be. Power just doesn't feel right. Also the sync 3 has horrible response and delay most days. Is it related to the power /electrical issue? new owner purchased 2/19.

11 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 12/20/2018

Bought 2012 Ford Focus on 3/2016. 5/2016 took back to dealership for stuck window d/t bad motor and reprogramming of transmission control module. 7/2016 car would not start at all, completely stalled out. Took to Ford dealership again. . . Transmission computer/module replaced. 12/2018 car stalled yet again and steering would not work nor would shifter. . . Transmission garage stated they fixed issue. 8 hours later, the car would not run at all. Transmission place refused to touch the car again. Called original dealership and ofcourse, they replaced the transmission control module. And expect us to pay for it again this time! plus the dealership will not replace car until most recent recall is fixed on it. Like hell will I put my 2 children and husband back in this car with the chance of it to stall again and crash. We reside 40 miles away from work so a total of a 1/2 tank of gas at one time is not feasible in western new york weather. 5 transmission problems and how many recalls later and Ford motor company will not do anything to make their wrongs right.

13 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

We had he check engine light come. A check of the code showed a fuel delivery system problem. We also noticed that when trying to fuel the vehicle when placing the fuel nozzle into the fuel fill a rush of air would escape. After fueling the car would not start. Once we get the car started it would run rough for several miles. Also, the fuel gauge was wrong. The fuel gauge would show 1/2 tank but we ran out of gas. The mechanic had to replace the fuel tank, our mechanic had to replace the fuel tank, purge valve and associated hoses, fuel pump. Also, another problem arose with the instrument cluster. All of the gauges including the radio went blank and would not function. The mechanic had to disconnect the battery and reset the computer for the instruments and radio to begin working again.

17 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2014 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 06/01/2017

June 1, 2017: I took my 2014 Ford Focus st, with ~10,500k miles only 4 months out of warranty, to a dealership for an oil change and warranty recalls. June 2, 2017: the dealership informed me that while reprogramming the bcm, body control module, the computer was wiped and the car would not start. The dealership said they attempted to reprogram it again but did not work but that they had opened a ticket with Ford's technical support. The dealership provided a loaner car to me for the weekend. June 6, 2017: the dealership called to tell me they still had not received a fix from Ford and that Ford knew of the issue and had replied that they would provide an update within 7 business days. I was told to keep the loaner car until the work was complete. I called Ford's service line to attempt to escalate the issue. I was provided the case number, as referenced, and told to talk to the dealership's service manager. The service manager told me that unfortunately there was nothing his technicians could do but to wait for a fix from Ford. June 15, 2017: I contacted Ford service line again and the case was escalated to a regional manager. They informed me that Ford does not have a fix and that Ford has no timeline for a fix. The vehicle is still non-functional. Ford has told me they have no fix and no timeline for a fix. The dealership is waiting on Ford to provide a fix as it's a computer issue and the dealership cannot do anything to solve it.

18 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 05/11/2017

This car experiences sudden loss of power leading to the inability to accelerate or even move the vehicle for varying lengths of time. This is left me stranded in dangerous situations three times. Twice I was in traffic (coming off the I-95 north and needing to merge my exit, then when stopped at a red light in a left turn lane) . Most recently the vehicle would not start up after being in a parked. In the latter episode jump-starts did not help. While the dash lights eventually came on, and the windshield wipers were able to move one to two times and then died, the engine simply would not turn over. Initial evaluations by the dealer for an engine light gave an "overspeed code" which was not relevant to driving conditions.

25 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2010 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 04/01/2016

Car fails to start when the key is inserted and turned to the proper ignition starting point. My mechanics says the car is not finding the safety chip inside the key and will not allow the car to start. I am having to replace the ignition and have my key re-programmed. This has been degrading over a period of months. Starting with a forcefulness of the key to make it start. The longer it has gone the worse it has gotten. Until it finally would not start at all. The repair will cost me $ 400. 00 plus having it towed. It is a failure of the ignition switch to recognize the key's safety chip inside the key. It has caused me to sit and wait for the car to start, sometimes reaching 30 minutes. I take very good care of my cars and his should not be happening.

27 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2012 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 12/13/2015

Parking aid malfunction error: while driving 65 mph on a 3 lane hwy, the parking aid malfunction error appeared which caused the car to completely shutdown. Fortunately I was able to coast to the side of the road with no power steering, no power brakes without engine power. Pam message kept appearing and car would not start. Vehicle had to be towed to dealer. Ford is aware of this problem and fixed the vehicle under warranty via TSB# 15-0101 3068 w40. Ford even extended the warranty for the transmission control module to 10 years 150,000 miles. To have a car completely shutdown while driving 65mph on a 3 lane highway is very dangerous and life threatening. Especially on a highway with cars whizzing by at 60-70 mph. Why isn't this tcm problem under recall? does someone have to be killed before any action is taken?.

28 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/03/2015

Driving on i80 west bound and my rpms shot up to 5,000/6,000. I proceeded to take my foot off the gas to let the transmission catch, however, when I put my foot back on the gas my rpms shot up again. My transmission had completely died. I had no ability to move forward. I managed to make it to the right hand shoulder from the left lane. I shut my car off once I reached the shoulder to see if that would help the problem. When I tried to start my car it would not turn on. I had dashboard lights but the car would not start. My car was still saying it was in drive when it was in park. My car ended up being towed to Ford and they told me I needed a new transmission control module and that they have had several Focuses come in with this problem in the last two to three weeks, so they are now keeping this part stocked. This could have been a very dangerous situation given that i80 is a very busy expressway and my car died while I was driving it.

29 Car Will Not Start problem of the 2013 Ford Focus

Failure Date: 09/02/2015

Stopped in stop-and-go traffic on a major highway, when I attempted to accelerate again the vehicle flashed a warning which said "hill start assist not available" and the engine died completely. I lost all power to the wheels and lost power steering, was able to coast to the shoulder, where the car would not start. All warning lights appeared to come on, including seatbelt, check engine, traction control, etc. The car indicated it was in "drive", in spite of the fact that I had the gearshift in park. It would not shift gears or allow me to start the engine. After sitting for 30-40 minutes waiting for a tow truck, the car suddenly appeared to function normally. I drove home, and 10 minutes later, while parallel parking, the incident occurred again: backing into a parking space and attempting to pull back out, going uphill, the exact same sequence of events occurred ("hill start assist not available", loss of power and steering). This time the vehicle coasted backwards into another car. No injuries or damage. The 2013 Ford Focus cannot be trusted to be driven on the highway. I have read many reports online of other drivers having identical or very similar issues with hill start assist/transmission/traction control errors, loss of power, loss of power steering, and inability to shift gears or restart the car, with this error sometimes happening *while driving at highway speeds* resulting in loss of control of the vehicle. I do not feel safe driving this car. I feel less safe knowing that Fords with this problem waiting to happen are being driving every day by unknowing drivers. This is a safety issue of the highest magnitude. It is absolutely outrageous that Ford has issued no recalls.
