Instead of the seat belt loosing, it tightened around her stomach. The seat-belt had to be cut in order to release her. The vehicle will be taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact owns a 2004 Ford Focus. While seating in a booster seat in the drivers side rear seat, the child was able to tie the seat belt around his head. The vehicle was taken to the dealership. They just looked at the vehicle and suggested the consumer contacted NHTSA. The current and failure mileages were 85342. Updated 12/22/09. The consumer had to cut the strap. Updated 12/29/09.
The contact stated the rear seat belt on the driver's side locked into position while securing a child safety seat. The seat belt failed to release when she tried to unlock it. The seat belt had to be cut to get the child out of the child safety seat. The child sustained minor injuries because the seat belt kept getting tighter. There had been no prior problems with the seat belt. The vehicle has not been inspected by the dealership, and the manufacturer has not been contacted.

The contact states the driver's side rear seat belt does not work properly all of the time. Sometimes it will not buckle, and sometimes it will not unbuckle. The dealership looked at it twice and they could not find anything wrong with it. The manufacturer said they would not replace the rear seat belt because the dealer could not find anything wrong with it. The contact noticed this approximately eight months ago.

The rear seat belt is so short it can not be used. It will lock in child safety mode when seat is laid flat and will not release. I had to unbolt the seat belt to raise the seat up.
Consumer states that it is hard for them to buckle in the rear seat belt due to the seat belt laying over the buckle. Dealer notified ts.
Rear folding seat could not be placed back up because lap belt locked up and would not unfasten. Dealer was not notified at this time. Consumer stated that the center rear seat belt was stuck.
Rear seat belt extender gets stuck during cold weather, not being able to use seatbelt.
