44 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2013

In September 2012 I took my 2004 free star into Ford dealership to have the torc converter replaced due to a recall. Now I get a transmission chatter. I took it once again into the dealership for a recall on the 3rd row seat and asked them after completing the recall if they would check out the chatter. They at first told me it was a misfire. . . That possibly the plugs and/or wires needed replaced. I obtained a cost for that and then asked them to complete the job. They called me back in an hour or so and told me that my problem was a much bigger problem. They said my transmission had water in it. My husband checked the fluid and yes it has a milky appearance. The dealership is the only ones who have removed my transmission when they done the torc coverter recall the previous fall. Now I learn that there is some sort of seal in which water can seep into the transmission. What's up with that and why hasn't there been a recall on this seal.

. In addition to causing an engine to stall, which may or may not then restart, transmission shift poorly, the vehicle has had erratic power, almost every time there is an inability to shift the vehicle into either forward or reverse. On start up no matter the temp of vehicle the idle rpm is higher than normal in park ! it has been service many many times. . Now our transmission fluid looks like pepto bismol !!.

49 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2012

On 7 oct. 2012, Sunday while driving to kleber kaserne u. S. Army base in kaiserslautern, germany with my wife my 2004 Ford, Freestar suddenly lost power. The road was wet from rain. I was in light traffic in the slow lane and this proved to be fortunate. I pushed the hazard lights as soon as I realized I had lost the ability to accelerate and was slowing down in a coast on the highway. I steered the car to the side of the road and stopped. My car was still running and the brakes worked. The engine would show an increase in rpm on the display when I touched the gas after I stopped but there was absolutely no power to the drive train. I called my adac auto club, germany for a tow truck and they arrived soon after. The day before this I had driving to frankfurt, germany and wiesbaden, germany on a rainy day and returned that evening. This is a round trip of about 200 miles on the autobahn. The autobahn I take to frankfurt has sections with no speed limits and the traffic is very fast. I am thankful that this didn't occur on the autobahn in heavy traffic. For anyone else this happens too, stay calm and look for a place to get off the road immediately. If a person is in fast traffic such as the fast lanes here in germany this would have been very dangerous because it is common to pass cars here in the autobahn in the slow lane at 70 to 80 miles per hour while watching the rear view mirror for cars in the fast lane that often are traveling in the 90 to 110mph speed. In my Ford Freestar I often watch out for the high speed german car traffic. End.

56 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2012

Drove vehicle to store, went in to do shopping came out to leave vehicle would start but wouldn't accelerate. Two days before incident it had been raining in grand junction colorado. Had vehicle towed to Ford and was told today that the pmc is full of water! it's going to cost me over 1500. 00 to fix this! what would of happened had it decided to go out as I was driving down the road with my two kids in the car? or when rushing my severe asthmatic to hospital?.

57 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2012

2004 Ford Freestar: 18 months ago, transmission went out; van had less than 100 miles on it. New transmission put in but again my transmission is acting up. Power loss is very clear! today, I called the Ford company to address my concern because my van again lost power. Transporting four children on a daily basis in dangerous winter temperatures is a great reason for concern! a Ford representative told me that my vehicle is part of the "power train torque" recall and called my local Ford dealerships (1-2 hours away) to see if they could fix my van, they were unable because they don't have the parts in but would have the parts in (early-mid) spring. I asked the representative what I should do as I can not wait until spring, she advised me to not have it fixed by an independent mechanic because Ford may not cover the costs. Also, wondered if Ford would be responsible for the transmission cost based on this recall. "no"! this is suppose to be a "family" vehicle, why do I have to put my family in danger until spring (when the part arrives)? I feel that Ford should be responsible for the cost of my transmission and they should fix my vehicle at the time that it's dangerous. . . . Like now (not spring)!.

58 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2012

Tl- the contact owns a 2004 Ford Freestar. The contact was driving approximately 45 mph when the vehicle began to jerk violently with the illumination of the battery and engine warning indicators. The engine suddenly staled and restarted with the continuous illumination of the engine warning indicator. The similar failure recurred and the vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who stated the power train control module would need to be replaced as a result to water leakage. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 151,000. The VIN was unavailable. Kmj.

59 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/31/2011

60 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2011

Whilst driving, engine rpm increased with no vehicle acceleration. Had to coast into parking lot and found transmission had no forward or reverse movement. Luckily there was light traffic and emergency actions were not present to remove vehicle off road safely.

61 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2011

We were leaving for a short trip. While driving on the highway the engine rpm's increase and the van was hardly moving. No advance notice at all. We turned around and made it back to the house. Just creeping along. It was just pure luck, early morning with hardly any traffic. From reading other complaint on the internet, it could be a costly repair. As of today, I haven't had a mechanic look at it. With only 60k miles I would think a transmission should last longer. Too many of the same complaints. Ford must of had it designed with "costing cutting" in mind. My opinion Ford motor company should offer some type of allowance for shotty design. There seems to be a great number of failures not just one or two.

62 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2011

Going to work with my kids in the car 2004 Freestar. Going to drop them off at family's house went to give gas lost all power no warning no indication there was a problem coasting in middle of main road very lucky its a busy road could have been bad. Needs to be solved before there is a fatality. No money to get it fixed right now with 3 kids and christmas round the corner.

Pulling away from a stop sign on a busy two lane highway, vehicle stop accelerating and engine revved freely. No shoulder and vehicle could not move under own power. Pulled over a little but vehicle was still in lane of travel, at night, with no street lights and small children in car!.

65 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2011

Transmission issues had to be replace, check engine light will not turn off. I have read many reports online about issues with the transmission in the 2004 Ford Freestar, sensor light issues, tracking light issues. No warning transmission just died 200 miles from home.

66 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2011

Transmission went out while driving. Thankfully we were not on the highway. No grinding or slipping, the engine just revved and would vehicle would not move. Had 3 children in the car at the time. Very dangerous to trust this car. Got the car to a parking lot, now it has been towed to a mechanic to be checked out. We previously had problems with something in the ignition or something where the car would just sputter and die while driving. Replaced driver side window motor, but passenger side does not work either. Please get these off the road!.

67 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/17/2011

Tranmission grinding and loss of power. . .

69 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/25/2011

Just exited intersate, van simply stopped moving forward, needed to replace transmission spline, cost 1385. 76 plus towing. Front window also stopped working, various electric problems including battery draining for no reason, locks work sporatically, damp weather causes problems with electrical, chugging of engine ect.

70 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/24/2011

We were driving east on the PA turnpike just past hershey exit and the vehicle was set on cruise at 65mph. All of the sudden the engine went into a high rev and the tach shot up to 5000 rpm. I hit the brake to kill the cruise and then stepped on the gas and it just revved up, as I was continually losing speed. I pulled off the highway, thank god there was a pullover so I didn't have to stay on the shoulder of the road. I was dead in the water, no forward or reverse at all! no warning it just happened out of no where. I was taking my girlfriend to her doctor appoint at u of penn childrens hospital for her disease, she is severely disabled and we need the van for her power wheel chair. I am very disappointed Ford will not own up to the failures in this particular transmission. There are complaints all over the web about this model and it's failing transmissions at 70 to 80 k miles. We are both disabled and now have no transportation and no way to pay for a $2500-$3400 transmission replacement!.
