The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that the vehicle would lung forward when shifting gears and then stall. The dealer diagnosed and replaced a filter in the vehicle but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 72,000 and current mileage was 95,000. The VIN was unavailable.
My 2005 Ford Freestyle began jerking backwards while in reverse to the point that I could not control the directions or speed the car was going. This was especially dangerous backing out of parking spaces. Today while backing out of a spot my car jerked back several times then would not switch in to drive and stalled. After restarting, the car went into drive and I pulled out on to a busy street. The check engine light then came on and the car would not go above 30 mph. I had to quickly pull over so I didn't get hit and killed and shut the car off and restarted it. The check engine light did not come back on but I went to auto zone to get it diagnosed. The codes came back saying something about an internal module and the tac switch. I tried backing out of the parking spot at auto zone and the car would jerk backwards and then stall. I have not successfully found any information on exactly what is wrong and how to fix it.
My 2005 Ford Freestyle just all of a sudden took off when I put it in reverse. I almost hit another car in the parking lot!!!!. Since then it does it randomly several times a week and now it even does it when you put it in drive. I have to be very careful in parking lots and in traffic. This is very dangerous and Fords needs to recall this dangerous defect.
Two incidents - while maneuvering at parking lots (external temperature around 100 degrees), vehicle's engine surged and vehicle lurched forward and a second time backward. Had to apply heavy breaking to avoid hitting a tree in the first incident and other cars on the second incident. After a few seconds the engine shut down and the message engine safe mode appeared in the panel. After turning the ignition off and on again, the problem disappeared.
Throttle surges when in reverse. This has happened for about a month and a half off and on. Now starting to surge a little when in drive. When your foot is on the brake and not on the gas, the car tries to accelerate.
Car sometimes feels like it is accelerating, or bucking, when the brake is on or slowing down such as pulling into a parking space or pulling up to a stop sign or traffic light.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that the automatic transmission would suddenly go into safe mode which caused the vehicle to stall and lose power when he was driving. The failure occurred between speeds of 55 mph and 65 mph. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealership where the dealer added transmission fluid. The failure occurred again however. The contact called the manufacturer who stated that the contact would be responsible for the repair costs associated with replacing the transmission. The current and failure mileages were approximately 64,000.
Ford Freestyle 2005 when put in reverse the car will jerk/throw you back and stall. A failsafe warning come on and the car shuts down. This has happened twice since may 11th after I had a car accident. I was told it was the throttle body and it wasn't covered under my extended warranty or insurance due to the accident. Was told by two Ford service managers they have never seen that before. Then I find online the thousand of other Ford Freestyle owners that have the same problem. This should be a recall.
Car experiences sudden surges and acceleration when idling (in forward or reverse), and will suddenly drop into failsafe mode at highway speed, requiring turning off the car and restarting in order to drive at speed. Car drops into failsafe and will not reset - check engine light remains on. Have replaced and cleaned air filter, air intake, maf sensor. Suspect throttle body replacement needed, but the only manufacturer of Ford throttle bodies has gone out of business and Ford has failed to identify or provide replacement parts.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that the vehicles rpms decreased while the vehicle was in the drive position, it surged, jolted forward and then backwards. A local mechanic stated that the transmission needed to be replaced. The contact also took the vehicle to the dealer who confirmed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The contact attempted to file a complaint with the Ford manufacturer but he was told to take the vehicle to the dealer first. The VIN was unknown. The failure mileage was 77,000.
Cvt transmission for 2005 Ford Freestyle had catastrophic failure at 65,000 miles. Transmission fluid was fine and checked at 61,000. The failure included pieces of the transmission piercing the outer casing and depositing metal parts on the driveway along with a great deal of fluid. The vehicle did not show any indications (lights, shifting or anything else) that the transmission was in jeopardy. My worry would be for others is that if the core of the transmission pierced the case it could have entered the passenger cabin.
I was leaving a parking lot, after stopping, to enter a two lane street with traffic both ways. Somehow the cvt transmission seemed to remain in high gear. I crept out into traffic at a slow crawl with horns honking and tires screeching. I was luck it is a small town and I wasn't hit.
2005 Ford Freestyle 3. 0 liter v6. Uncommanded high revs which can launch the car unexpectedly if one does not have their foot firmly on the brake. Problem in linked to the autothrottle body. Also activates engine light. Part on order, however Ford has pushed back the date of supply of part several times. I believe that the part should be recalled for safety reasons due to the possibility of accident by the car's uncommanded high revolutions and the possibility of the car lurching forward or back and impacting an object.
Ford Freestyle 2005 limited edition throttle body needed replacement however part was back ordered for 6 months and now they don't have the right part. I had a heated throttle body that I paid for on the car and now they are switching it to a non heated. So if I go to the snow im sol.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. The contact was stopped at a traffic stop with the air conditioner activated when there was an abnormal increase in engine rpms. The consumer attempted to accelerate but the contact applied the brakes to avoid crashing into the vehicle ahead of her. The vehicle then stalled. The contact was able to immediately restart the vehicle and shut off the air conditioner. The dealer advised having a diagnostic performed on the vehicle but the contact declined. The failure recurred twice followed by the illumination of the check engine, check transmission and throttle control warning lights illuminated. Each time, the contact would shut off the engine and when restarting, the vehicle would resume normal operation. In addition, the cruise control was no longer operable. The manufacturer advised that there were no related recalls and would not provide any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000 and the current mileage was approximately 83,000. Updated 10/21/10. Lj the vehicle was diagnosed as having internal failure in the transmisson. Updated 10/26/10.
Ctv transmission in '05 Ford Freestyle models have been trouble since the day they were put on the market. What the dealers didn't divulge is that you are not likely to replace parts of this type of transmission, rather you need to replace the whole thing. The situations that arise, outside of being stranded, is that the engine is not reliable. It can make the car jerk, hesitate, jump forward and backward and some cases, the transmission pretty much disintegrated on the ground. There are many complaints about this abuse that Ford has bestowed on it's customers.
Previous issue that I had fixed at the Ford dealer with my Freestyle. Vehicle would lunge as noted in your investigation. I contacted Ford and they stated that there was no recall at the time and apologized for the issue but noted it in the records for my 2005 Freestyle. I had the throttle body replaced and it fixed the issue, however, Ford did not pay for any of t he repairs. Repair was done at dovi Ford dealership in cortland, NY.
Component: power train:automatic transmission details: 2005 Ford Freestyle - I have had my vehicle back to the dealer 5 times for this issue, when moving from reverse to drive, the wrench light on the dash comes on and when pressing on the gas, the car does not move. Finally, after "flooring it", the car moved slowly until approximately 20 mph. The problem seems to occur approximately every 6 months or 8000-10000 miles. Ford has changed the same parts every time and the problem still recurs. It is in the shop for over 2 weeks again. I have an extended warranty but Ford refuses to change out the transmission, only replace the same parts every time. I'm bewildered and disappointed in Fords corporate customer service and the inability to fix the problem.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that the vehicle would lunge forward when she attempted to slow down or stop. The problem became progressively worse since September 2008. The vehicle had not been inspected or repaired at the time of the complaint. The contact had not spoken with the manufacturer at the time of the complaint. The current mileage was approximately 70,000. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
While driving car gives a series of kicks, loss of power and car enters limp mode, message states failsafe mode. Once you are able to get off the road and safely pull over normal reset by turning car off and turning back on and car is once again mobile under normal drive mode.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that when shifting from park to drive or braking to a stop, the vehicle would intermittently lunge forward. In addition, the vehicle would lose power sporadically and would engage the safe mode. The dealer advised that the transmission would need replacing. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 45,000.
While starting up and pulling away from a parked position my 2005 Ford Freestyle jerked and stalled. When I restarted the wrench light on the dash lit up and the error message "fail safe engine mode" appeared. I was able to limp home about 4 to 5 miles, but had little power going up hills. The car seemed like it was in first or second gear the whole time. I have an appointment with the Ford dealer tomorrow morning. This seems to be a growing complaint with these transmissions.
2005 Ford Freestyle I backed out of a parking space and then put it into drive. The wrench light on the dash came on and when pressing on the gas, the car did not move. Finally, after "flooring it", the car moved slowly. I drove home. When I stopped the car and restarted, the problem was gone. We took it to the dealer and they ran diagnostic tests. They reset the computer and said it was fine. After about a week later, it did the same thing again.
Tl- the contact owns 2005 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that on several occasions while driving, the vehicle would surge forward or reverse depending on the gear, the rpns would go up. On one occasion the vehicle shut off and had to be restarted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer who stated that they could not duplicate the problem but they changed the cvt fluid. The current mileage is 60000 and the failure mileage was 59990. Jp.
The car will rev up and jump forward (or backward). Sometimes stalls after jumping, worse when air conditioning is on. Dealership has said there is no problem they can find. Saw there was an investigatioin so I decided to make my complaint official.
- the contact stated that on December 17, 2006, while driving at 10 to 15 mph he heard a whirling sound. The contact notified the dealer of the problem and was asked to get the car serviced. The vehicle was still with the dealer because the failure was undetermined. Updated 1/29/2007 - as of 1 19/07 the dealer still has the vehicle. The consumer was told that the transmission would have to be repaired. This will be the third time. Updated 1/29/2007 -.
My 2005 Ford Freestyle would lurch forward or backward if my foot was not firmly on the brake when idling or shifting into gear. This is expecially problematic when the ac is on. .
2005 Ford Freestyle. The continuously variable transmission has a defect in that it will sporadically and randomly dramatically change gear ratios resulting in a very noticeable increase in rpm. The consequence of this is that the engine undergoes moderate to severe engine braking significantly slowing down the car without warning. This has caused a number of near accidents as cars following closely behind have no warning that the car will slow down very aggressively in front of them. I have reported the defect to my local Ford dealer (frontier Ford in sunnyvale, California) and it has been in their service department three separate times and they have been unable to repair the problem and have not provided acceptable options to fix the problem, apparently unconcerned about the significant safety risk posed by the defect. The most recent incident occurred Saturday April 15, 2006.
On the Ford Freestyle there is an inherent problem with transmission. When trying to pass,go up hill, or just as temperature rises in transmission. The transmission will go into traction control setting. You will loose speed power and rpm will go up and red line. This is very dangerous if you are trying to pass on two lane road. I have been almost ran over on the freeway when this occurs. Ford will not acknowledge the problem. I checked on edmonds dot com and there are thousands of complaints with this problem. The people are told they must buy a new transmission. For between $5000-$7000 dollars. I have spent 2000 already and still not fixed problem. Mine failed at 74,800 miles , but I was out of town in the boom docks and by the time I got back I was over mileage, they would not honor the warranty. I have over a 120,000 miles now and they can not fix it, I live in nebraska where the problem does not occur under 40 degrees outside. I started seeing a wrench appear on the console but the dealer could not find any computer problem. So they ignored it a glitch in the system. Thanks scott manley this problem can and will cause a death.
Trans would function normally and then when you put it in park it starts backing up! then when you attempt to place the car in drive it revs like it's in neutral. You have to shift it into low to get it into drive. This also causes it to come out of gear while driving.
Vehicle was purchased on 7/16/2005. After being driven off the lot, transmission light appeared. Vehicle was returned to dealer who could not locate a problem. Vehicle was then driven 23 miles when all power was lost. Vehicle was towed back to dealer. Service tried to correct the problem for 1 week before ordering a new transmission. New transmission was installed one week later. Upon picking up vehicle, engine light appeared. Vehicle will now need to be returned once again. Glare from tan interior is dangerous also, and accelerator tends to stick.
The cvt transmission surges at highway speed of 70 miles this is on our 2005 Ford Freestyle sel. It continues to do this and has being brought to the attention of the Ford dealership that we bought the vehicle from and as of yet they have not taken care of this issue.
Car stops on its own. Shuts off. Bucks and jerks and is going to kill me and my kids and Ford will not do anything about it. I can't even get a Ford dealership to work on my vehicle they tell me they don't want this problem. There are to many repairs on this vehicle and now they are telling well your warranty is up now. They kept telling me at Ford (1-800) we are working on it, getting me a buy back. Now they tell me it is do deal and they will not fix my vehicle. My car now fills up with water when it rains. I have had 2 transmissions put in this vehicle, they replaced my brakes a few times, they replaced my computer a few times, and all the while kept telling me we are working on getting you a new vehicle. They the dealership shuts down. I have been to others and they don't want my problem. I have called Ford a lot of times. They just take my information and tell me they don't have to fix your vehicle. I am fed up with this.
