The car stops randomly at times and sometimes will not even startup. Check engine light is on and I recently hit someone in front of me due to jerking or lerching while at a stop light. Very dangerous.
Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while stopped at a light or when pressure was applied to the brake the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration and the contact was concerned the vehicle may accelerate forward and cause an accident. There was a check engine warning light illuminated when the failure started. The vehicle was not towed. The vehicle was not taken a Ford dealership or an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The manufacture was not contacted. The failure mileage was 200,000. Akp.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. While driving approximately 40 mph, the check engine sensor light suddenly illuminated. In addition, the vehicle's speed reduced and would no longer accelerate while depressing the accelerator pedal. The contact indicated that the failure occurred on multiple occasions. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 160,000.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. While driving 65 mph, the check engine warning light and an unknown warning light randomly flashed. In addition, the transmission slipped gears and the engine idled roughly. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
Kept having issues starting the vehicle along with while driving on the high way not being able to get up to the speed needed. Took it too beechmont Ford in ohio today and because check engine light would come on then go off . When I spoke to somebody I was told $100 for an hour to diagnose then I was told they needed two more hours. I finally get a call and they say I might need an entire new engine ! how is that possible with not even 69 thousand miles on I just purchased the car in August ! how can these cars be out there with such problems? a new engine! all because of code ps305 and ps 316. Not to mention everytime I asked about the recalls being taken care of on my car I never was give an answer clearly.
Bought it 7/23/2013, day one fine. Day 2, spouse in car, with 3 children, check transmission light, track control light, check engine light, wrench light all came on. . On the highway. Car lost significant power, almost resulting in accident, car bucking and using significant rpms to accelerate . Restarted the car after 3-4 times, lights gone car running smoothly. Day 3, same thing. I've owned it for 6 days! terrified for my family and other drivers with this vehicle. Too many safety complaints on the vehicle/transmission for Ford not to recall. An american company putting americans at risk for harm.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 mph, the vehicle stalled as the check engine warning light illuminated. Also, the contact mentioned that the wrench warning icon would illuminate intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic throttle body needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 132,000.
I took my car in to be serviced for maintenance (power steering service and transmission service) to the Ford dealership in thomasville, GA. After a few days my 2005 Ford Freestyle started to display transmission data error, check track control, and check engine lights. I called the company and was advised to bring it in and I did. The alerts were not on at the time but the service man jerry and josh told me they would check my vehicle and let me know what - if anything was wrong. They kept it all day and when I returned to pick it up I was informed that it was fine and they re-serviced my transmission. About two weeks later my car started the same thing all over again while in traffic it seemed not to want to pull off normally with all these alerts lighting up after church one Sunday. I called Ford of course they were closed but the next day was Monday I called and was asked to bring the car back in. This time once it started to do the same things jumping in gear and knocking hard this time the service man who answered my call says they are looking for a transmission and advised me that Ford would pay for half the work and parts. I asked if they didn't cause it why would you offer to pay half. The last time they got my Ford Freestyle they gave me a borrowed vehicle and told my husband 4 days later that the car has electrical problems that they will pay none of the repair. I was told twice my car was fine now my husband just got a new job and no way to get to it because I believe Ford damaged my vehicle and refuses to right their wrong. What can I do now?.
For the past few months my car has been lunging forward or backward when going at a low speed. For example, going into or coming out of a parking space, in a drive thru line, or waiting at a traffic light. The problem seem worse when it is hot outside and/or the air is on. Yesterday the problem happen again, engine stalled and when I restarted the car the check engine light came on. I have had a few near misses with the problem, coming close to hitting a little girl in a parking lot and almost running into a car at a drive thru line just to name a couple. I remember hearing about the same problem last year and am very shocked to see that Ford is taking a chance with peoples lives like this, why has there not been a recall issued to fix the problem?.
I have a 2005 Ford Freestyle with 96,987 miles. The car has been having intermittent lunging issues for the past few months. It is only on hot days when I have the a/c on. The lunging happens when I am completely stopped, or backing out of a parking spot, it has happened in the drive through at a fast food restaurant, the bank, etc. But most recently it happened at my daughters school parking lot! I almost hit a child as she was crossing in front of me. The car lunged forward and I had to put my foot on the break and thankfully the car stopped. Needless to say it could have been a much worse outcome. I brought the car to my local Ford dealership. They replaced the throttle body; parts and labor $880. Picked up the car at 6:45pm, all the service tecs had left for the day; so I paid the cashier the $880, got in the car, turned on the ignition and immediately the engine light and wrench light were still on!! I could not believe it! I could not even leave the parking lot. . . The car "bucked" the entire way out. . . I immediately turned around and left my car at the service lot again and dropped of the keys with a note in the night key box. I am so disappointed in my local Ford dealership; I know they never test drove the car prior to them diagnosing the problem nor did they test drive the car after they "fixed" it. I do not know how they could consciously tell me the car was fixed and charge me $880. 00?!?! Ford really needs to step to the plate on this issue and place a recall on these cars. . . . I have loved my car prior to this lunging/surging situation but at this point I will never buy another Ford!!.
While putting the vehicle both into drive and reverse it revs and/or rpms drop, and lunges until I hit the brakes or the motor cuts out and displays engine failure safety. It has done this twice, then a check engine light came on. I will schedule an appointment with the dealership, however it does cause a bit of nerves when it happens.
On Tuesday, our car lost engine power in traffic. The check engine light came on and "engine in failsafe mode" appeared on the dash. She turned the car off and on, and it worked fine. She checked online and found identical problems, and solutions in turning the car off and on. I checked online, found identical failures, a longstanding shortage of throttle parts, presumed a defect in the throttle control, found no fhtsa recalls, but discovered surging documented in pe11-018 (opened may 11, 2011). Our car has also had high rpm surges, occurring infrequently, but usually when the engine is cold. Our au pair experienced surging 2 weeks earlier when she backed out of a garage parking lot and bumped another car. Below are representative websites that document 21 instances of sudden power loss and engine warning "failsafe mode" in the Ford Freestyle described as sudden stalling, car going to idle, engine dying, running limp, and going into "neutral. " my wife's experience is consistent with these descriptions. . Read more...
Vehicle will lunge and jerk while backing or under braking. Engine will rev and then stall as well. Check engine light with come on or it will go into "fail-safe" mode. Took it to a local Ford dealership and they advised it needed a new throttle body. After researching the issue we discovered this is a common problem with this model and year.
Vehicle has a sudden jump in acceleration even when driver is pressing on the brake pedal. It feels as if both the brake and accelerator are being pressed and the car is in conflict. Then the idle seems to drop either to a point of the vehicle dying or almost stalling. When restarted (sometimes this takes 2-3 tries to keep it running) or idle evens out the rpms and acceleration are delayed for some time. While pressing on the accelerator (even pushing almost to the floor) the vehicle will not increase in speed (in a normal response time-within 3-4 miles) and rpms top out at 2000. This happens at both low speeds and when attempting to acheive highway speeds. The trigger for this is typically a sharp turn. This also results in the check engine light coming on and giving diagnostic codes of p061b and p2106 which I have been unable to find a description of these codes. This has happened once every 4-6 weeks to begin with, but has increased in frequency to 3-4 times a month. I have not replaced the throttle body but that appears to be the common fix as reported by others experiencing this problem. After leaving the car sit for several hours and restarting the next day or 4-5 hours later the problem is not apparent until the next time.
My 2005 Ford Freestyle surges violently after warming up when the transmission is in drive and you come to a stop. The car lurches forward quickly and without warning several feet and when you try to brake to stop the forward progress, it usually dies and gives the "wrench" check engine light. It will not restart until you turn the ignition off and back on. It does this mostly during warm to hot weather. Rarely through the cool or cold weather.
Vehicle surges forward and in reverse, even when foot is applied to the brake. This happens on a daily basis nearly every time the vehicle is driven and is very dangerous, especially when in traffic and while maneuvering in parking lots. The surges are unpredictable and occur mainly when the vehicle is initially placed into drive or reverse, but can happen randomly while just sitting with it in gear. It has been happening for over two years now. The engine safe light has come on on two occasions in the past two months as well, but has cleared itself after switching the car off, then back on.
Purchased the car used from Ford dealership. I had been following a friend on ih10 in east texas. Friend had pulled over to side of road, ipulled in behind him. I stayed in my car with ac running for approx 10 minutes I put the car in gear and started to drive. The vehicle would not go over 20 mph. I pulled over and turned the car off. My friend saw me and pulled his vehicle over and came back to ck on me. I started the car back up to get off the freeway the accelerator was racing even with my foot on the brake the engine light came on and the computer said it was running in safe mode. On July 2 2012 I took my son to airport. I parked in the parking lot ,we had set in the car in park with engine and ac running for about 15 minutes. . When I put the car in reverse the acclerator got stuck and with my brakes still applied the car lunged backward acellerator running full force. The gas pedal was not engaged by me and I had to turn the car off to stop the acceleration. When I turned the car back on the engine light was on and operating in safe mode. This is ver unnerving and I think could have caused an accident had any cars been around me. I took the car in to the dealership where I had purchased it, have an appt to bring it back in on July 9 to have them fix it. I got on the website of Ford today for any recalls that might have been called for my car-didnt see any for this type problem. However in researching the problem I found a lot of people who had reported it. This problem needs to be addressed and quickly before someone is injured or killed-and I pray its not me. The dealership is charging me $85 to run a diagnostic they already knows exists. As far as I can tell, no one has been able to have this problem resolved or fixed.
Have a 2005 Ford Freestyle- with a throttle body issue. The part is on back order- no rental given by company. "fail safe engine mode" and check engine light is one because of it- they insist that it is safe to drive (I drive 75 miles back and forth to work everyday). I am sorry- but driving that many miles- with my children in the car as well- while the engine is failing- is never safe. Because of the jolting forward and backwards while in this mode- I can't even count how many times I have almost hit another car, or a pedestrian! what happens when the engine does fail- is Ford going to replace that?.
My 2005 Ford Freestyle sel has experiences issues with surging, stalling and inability to accelerate. The problems started at least 2 years ago (2009) at which time I called my local dealership to inquire on recalls (warranty was out) and was told there were no recalls to fix this issue. Since the surge has increased in frequency, most any time I start the vehicle and put it in gear, it will surge (rpm's rev up on their own). Having my foot on the brake at times still does not hold the car completely still and has concerned me on more occasions than not when in parking lots at stores with people moving around my vehicle. The stall & inability to accelerate happens less frequently but has happened a handful of times and always results in the check engine light (wrench) coming on. The vehicle will not perform as it should until the check engine has been cleared. I recently backed into a tree at my work and firmly believe it happened due to a surge after I put the car in gear and started backing up. I did not have enough time to react (stopping the vehicle) before it hit the tree. I've owned my car since 2007 - my sister has a Lincoln LS that was recalled just before my car started these episodes. Her car was recalled for everything I've stated above (even though it had never done it) - the throttle body linkage was replaced. I've called the dealership on numerous occasions, even stating that her Lincoln received the recall that my car needs, with absolutely no help or suggestions.
2005 Ford Freestyle has been surging and lurching without depressing gas pedal. While stopped but in either drive or reverse, once foot is removed from brake pedal, the car suddenly accelerates without warning. The last time it happened, the wrench light and the check engine light came on and it went into failsafe mode. Took it to the dealer and it is the throttle body. The part won't be in stock until August and the dealer is recommending the vehicle not be driven until the throttle body is replaced. This is a very unsafe condition and could have resulted in a serious accident had a pedestrian been in front of or behind my car when it accelerated without warning and without the gas pedal being pushed.
The vehicle started surging without foot on the gas pedal. This occurs at low speeds or when stopping. Have had to rapidly press the brake pedal and hold it to avoid accidents. When the surging occurs, many times the vehicle goes into fail-safe engine mode which does not allow one to shift into higher gears. This caused a problem on the interstate when caught in stop and go traffic. Could not accelerate after surge-engine dying-failsafe engine mode. Check engine light stays on after occurence and failsafe engine mode was solved by pulling over, killing the motor, waiting, and then restarting. Surging is causing a stress on the transmission which now appears to have slack in it.
My 2005 Ford Freestyle seems to have issues at the initial start position. In the "park" position the car will revv without compressing the gas petal, it then lunges forward as you are attempting to put the car in either forward or reverse. It shudders and shakes, causing the engine to shut down completely and operate is the "safe" mode. The check engine light usually comes on. The vehicle had been seen on 3 different occasions ranging from April of 2010 to July 2010, each time the symptoms became worse, at one point while waiting at a red light just before entering the on-ramp to the highway, it stuttered, revved high and lunged into oncoming traffic, embarrassed, I continued to proceed forward to the on-ramp when the car suddenly shut down completely causing the 4 vehicles behind me to break hard, again almost causing another accident, I drove it directly to the dealer. The dealer did work on the vehicle and thought to have solved the issue. The issues started to occur in the winter and early spring before the usage of the a/c and became progressively worse as the summer months approached and the a/c full was in usage. It has been a almost 2 years since I have needed to report anything to the dealer. The fix did appear to lessen the intensity of the issue, but did not fix it entirely. It has continued to act up, but is back to the same intensity as the summer of 2010. The engine surged 3 times in an hour period last week and shut the engine down twice. When I called the dealer to report it, they told me that it would be considered a new issue since it has been almost 2 years since they had worked on the car for the same issue. They may have cleaned the throttle body in 2010, which reduced the surging intensity, but it did not solve the problem. Is Ford waiting for a major accident, fire or death to occur before this problem is resolved or replaced?!.
I purchase my 2005 Ford Freestyle in June 2005. July 2005 traveling to georgia between 55/60 mph, the check engine light and transmission icon appeared. Upon trying to accelerate, I could not move no more than 30-40 mph with the rpm's racing. I had to pull over and let the car rest approximately 15-20 minutes. Upon starting the car and putting into drive gear it was very hard and lunged. The car sounds like you're racing the engine with the vehicle in park. The frequency of the engine/transmission light with trying to accelerate and can not is a persisent issue. It also lunges when the air conditioner is turned on. Once the car is shut off and started again, while your foot is on the brake which has to be with more pressure than usual to control the lunge. Sitting in traffic with the air on with cars ahead of you is frightning since it will lunge then also. This has been an ongoing issue since the purchase of this vehicle. I've also had the brakes repaired more than normal. Since acquiring this car. Recently, I've gotten the brakes done in February, may and currently need another repair with all the squealing.
