My vehicle stalls every week steering and brakes hard to control, my wife drives the vehicle. Took it to many shops, no codes stored in computer cannot find problem. I had the throttle body cleaned, replaced fuel pump, same fault. The car is unsafe hard to stop sometimes when engine shuts off. Ford dealer cannot find the problem.
In 2011 the throttle body failed on my 2005 Ford Freestyle. Ford recommended cleaning the throttle body and I had this done at a Ford dealer. Ford later extended the warranty on this part and reimbursed me. Following this, I found that the car occasionally lunged and the rpms would race. On November 3, 2013 the vehicle went into fail safe mode while driving at 45 mph. I was in heavy traffic and the entire engine stopped accelerating. I immediately hit my brakes and began to pull over. I restarted the vehicle and tried to make my way home at 15 mph. On Monday I made an appointment to have my car seen. I was told it was still covered by the extended warranty. On Tuesday the car again went into fail safe mode and shut down while driving. I was almost rear ended. On inspection, the dealer found that the throttle body was at fault. The part was faulty, and could not be cleaned to fix. It would have to be replaced, but Ford would not cover the cost (over $900) even though they know there is a problem with this part. When calling, I was told that they would only cover a one time cleaning. The cleaning did not fix the problem, and this is a massive safety issue. The car shuts down in traffic, leaving you vulnerable.
When I was reversing out of a parking space my car lunged backwards and then shut off and on my dash board it read "failed safe mode". Then 2 weeks later this same thing happened to me when I pulled out onto a street. I was at a busy intersection and my car shut off again stating "fail safety mode" after 2 attempts to restart my car the vehicle finally started again. When I go into drive or reverse my car takes a few seconds to shift and will always lunge forwards or backwards while going around 2mph-5mph. This vehicle is becoming more and more unsafe to drive. The cost of a new cvt transmission will run me $5500. I contacted Ford about this issue and they made it clear to me that they have not heard anything about this, although there is currently a class action lawsuit pending against Ford for this matter. I also contacted the dealer who I purchased from less than a year and half ago and they are willing to give me $3000 for my vehicle which I purchased for $12,000 and still owe $9,000 for. There is no way I can afford to pay for this repair, especially because my vehicle is worth roughly $5,000 now.
My Ford Freestyle it raves on it's own with out me stepping on the gas. It also trys and takes off on its own it has done it various times. I just got it out the dealership on 8/7/12 due to ac compressor took the dealership a whole week to fix went to pick it up left the dealer and it started accelerating on its on and trying to take off whitout me stepping on the gas. The next day 8/8/12 I went to work when I got to our gate at my job I was getting my badge to open the gate and it started doing it again when I was parking reverse it accelerated and then it died on me it read system failure, I turned on the car again and it did it again and then it shut off again reading system failure. I took it back to the dealership after work thinking they must have did something wrong now there telling me its the throttle body and I have to pay another deductible to get it fixed. There goes 2 deductible payments back to back! they need to recall this part back I looked online and many people are having the same issue!.
2005 Ford Freestyle - I am having problems with the car randomly lurching it has happened while backing up and moving forward - after the lurch it may be fine other times it shuts off or the car goes into fail safe mode. Particular worries me while backing up in parking lots and such worried it would cause me to hit someone/ something. It has done this on quite a few occasions over several months and seems to have become worse during the hotter months.
The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. While driving 65 mph, for approximately more than one hour, the vehicle shuts off. The vehicle was towed and the cause of failure was diagnosed as the throttle body. The contact stated that the throttle body had previously been replaced two weeks prior for the same failure. The current mileage is 26,500 and failure mileage was 26,200.
