The vehicle lunges forward when backing and when stopping going forward. It feels like seone is pushing the accelerator even though your foot is on the brake.
Fuel line just snapped off the car , also the transmission line snapped off and the trans system shut down, the door locks shut down and stopped working . The transmission and fuel line snapped while in motion on the highway.
Driving down the road and lost power the car was still running. The rear wiper doesn't work and the traction control system is malfunctioning.
Dash cluster died unexpectedly while driving. Found problem to be shoddy solder work on the circuit board causing multiple failures in the dash cluster and fuel system. Happened during highway driving at 60 mph.
It lunges when I'm turning from stop ,tapping on the brake, turning right corners, backing up when car is warmed up, it lunges out of nowhere. Im afraid I'm going to hit someone or something.

When pulling out of parking lot onto highway, lost all acceleration and check engine and check transmission lights came on, was lucky the vehicles behind me were paying attention and I was able to coast to side of road. Turned car off and restarted, when shifting into gear there was a loud clunk in d and r, with still no response from the throttle. After having to have vehicle towed home so my family and I were off of the busy highway, I tried to disconnect the battery to try and reset the system, still no luck. We just had the throttle body replaced last year at a cost of 700. 00, similar to same issues with throttle but nothing with transmission at that time. After reading through multiple reviews there are numerous complaints of this cvt transmission and there was also a recall on the throttle body needing to be cleaned. What is the problem of why a recall has not been issued, these vehicles are not only family vehicles but death traps! something needs to be done before some family gets killed from a faulty mistake that Ford CO. Is well aware of!.
Door latches freezing every winter and doors will not latch and stay shut. Also went to Ford website and realized there was a recall for fsa title: engine idle rpm surge extended warranty field service action number: 12n03. I was unaware of this recall and my car does this quite frequently and I am afraid the tens years is up for this to be taken care of. When pull up to a stop sign or red light, sometimes the engine will rev really high and lurch forward causing me to stomp on brake pedal really hard.
Cvt fail, throttle body issue, started in September 2016. Car now has 135,030 miles. Happens continuously, when idle and moving down the road. I sent a letter to Ford and they responded with a "sorry. . . We can't help you". Making helicopter noise. Loses power and goes into failsafe mode. I will attach both letters.
Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, all of the dashboard lights would not illuminate and that all of the gadges for fuel, speed and oil temperature stopped working. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 131,596. Ad.
1. Driving car at 45mph. . Came to red light. When pushing a celerator to floor , car suddenly does not respond to pressure on gas pedal. Will not pick up speed. Notice check e gine on display panel and wrench symbol came on and words "engine in failsafe mode" display. 2. When standing still, engine yrunning. . . Foot on brake . Engine idling. . . Car begins to lunge forward, engine revs up when lunging. 3. During 90 degree weather, driving at 55 mph, turned on ac. Car immediately lost power and failsafe mode light came on.
Traveling on hwy at approx 60 mph, wrench light came on, "failsafe engine mode" message appeared and car powered down. Pulled over, turned car off, waited 1 min, restarted car. Message was cleared and car drove as normal. About 20 miles later, same problem, except check engine light and message appeared. Pulled over, turned off car, restarted. Check engine light and message remained. Very low power upon acceleration. Problem continued intermittently. Received engine code p2111, p2112 relating to throttle body problem. Etb had been cleaned 11/13 by dealer per technical service bulletin issued by Ford. No problems until 12/14. Service performed to reprogram etb, no cleaning was needed. Problem recurred 12/23/14. Check engine light is on and no power upon acceleration persists. Codes indiacte etb needs to be replaced.
We were pulling out of a parking lot into traffic on a highway and the wrench light came on and we lost all power to the vehicle. The vehicle had to be shut off and then started back up in the middle of the road. Another incident happened on my way to work and there were cars behind me. I was able to make it to the side of the road to start it back up. The third incident happened again on my way to work and then the engine light illuminated and when I had it checked the codes p2104 and p2111 came up. The thottle body was stuck opened and in a bind. I was almost hit during the second incident and feel that this is a serious safety issue. I am glad that I wasn't on the interstate going 65 or 70 mph. The car almost came to a complete stop on its own in the matter of a few yards.
A little over 3 years ago, I filed a complaint regarding a surging with my Ford Freestyle. We had our vehicle serviced and the throttle body cleaned. The problem was resolved for a while, but we recently started experiencing issues again. This time the Freestyle would lose acceleration, the rpms dropped, and a wrench-shaped warning light activated. At first it seemed to be an issue only when cruise control was activated, but has since happened during normal driving. We took our car into the dealer, and they completely replaced the throttle body for a total of $900, but we are still having issues.
The problem with this car and the throttle body has been going on for a while. I took the car to the Ford dealer but they only cleaned the throttle body when it needed replacement. The last event was in August 1 when while I was driving the fail safe mode came up and the car suddenly lost the power and wouldn't run faster than probably 0. 1 mile per hour. This was the second time this happened the first time I was with my kids in a major highway and the car suddenly stop running. Thank god I had a chance to steer to the emergency lane. Many people are having the same issue with the 2005-2007 Freestyle, this is a super safety issue and nobody is doing anything about it. When my car stopped I could have been hit on the back with a worst outcome. I got a tow truck and they took the car to the Ford dealer. Those people are not helpful at all and treated me with a bad attitude. Very expensive to change that's why Ford is not getting involved and only offered to clean the part in the extended warranty, knowing that that wouldn't fix the problem. Ford should have a recall for the throttle body part before somebody gets killed in a very serious accident that this problem could cause.
I was driving on the freeway roughly 65-70 mph and the failsafe engine mode came on, which disabled my gas pedal. I could not accelerate. I was in the far left lane, and had to "coast" with my hazard lights on so I could turn the car off while in park on the shoulder. I restarted the car and it went away. Thankfully traffic was light! earlier in the week this same thinghappened on my way to qwork I was on a 35 mph rd, and it did this, lost all use of the gas. Had to kill the car and restart but that time the check engine codes p2106 and p061b were drawn. (not the first time I've had these codes I know they mean throttle body'sbad) ii've kept my obdii scanner in the car cuz these codes come up once a week at least. I just keep erasing them, restarting the car, and drives fine till it randomly goes off again. Thus was the first time it has happened to me on the highway. It scared me to death that I would have been rear ended on a highway. Thse should be recalled. Ford claims there's no safety issue. I barely avoided a potential fatal crash!.
In drive at 40 mph to 55 mph the car almost stalls and goes I to fail safe mode. In fail safe mode the car runs at 15 mph. The dealer says they can not duplicate the problem.
In 2011 the throttle body failed on my 2005 Ford Freestyle. Ford recommended cleaning the throttle body and I had this done at a Ford dealer. Ford later extended the warranty on this part and reimbursed me. Following this, I found that the car occasionally lunged and the rpms would race. On November 3, 2013 the vehicle went into fail safe mode while driving at 45 mph. I was in heavy traffic and the entire engine stopped accelerating. I immediately hit my brakes and began to pull over. I restarted the vehicle and tried to make my way home at 15 mph. On Monday I made an appointment to have my car seen. I was told it was still covered by the extended warranty. On Tuesday the car again went into fail safe mode and shut down while driving. I was almost rear ended. On inspection, the dealer found that the throttle body was at fault. The part was faulty, and could not be cleaned to fix. It would have to be replaced, but Ford would not cover the cost (over $900) even though they know there is a problem with this part. When calling, I was told that they would only cover a one time cleaning. The cleaning did not fix the problem, and this is a massive safety issue. The car shuts down in traffic, leaving you vulnerable.
We have had this car for over two years now. In those two years our instrument cluster has been replaced by the Ford dealer 4 times now. When driving the instrument cluster goes off and sends fuel shutoff codes to the fuel system which causes the vehicle to shake. Other items replaced were the onboard computer and alternator. The computer has been reprogrammed once, but no help. I have seen the technical release for this issue, but this has been a huge safety concern for my family. When the car starts to shake and you are doing 65/70 mph it could cause an accident.
We were driving on the freeway (hwy 350) and the car just stalled out, again in traffic on take off the car stalled in the middle of traffic, once getting on I-70 it just stalled,. We took it to dick smith Ford here in raytown, missouri , johnny the service person said it was covered under extended warranty. So I left the car with them , and about 3:00 pm I got a call, johnny said the car was ready, he said they fixed the problem, but it is doing the same thing. This time it stopped with my wife in the heat of traffic, well I called johnny at the dealership again and he said it must be something else, well I had a test done, the test indicated it is the same problem the throttle body. I know the problem could not be a tune-up because I just spent $ 900. 00 for that at the same Ford place, yes over nine hundred dollars. Please advise what to do.
Car suddenly slowed to approximately 5 mph and then stopped. Accelerator stopped functioning. I waited for ten minutes, turned the engine on and limped home at 5 mph. This breakdown occurred after worked was performed at varsity Ford in ann arbor, michigan for this same problem. Dealer advised that the worked performed (cleaning the throttle body and reprograming the powertrain train module) did not work. After detailed discussions with the dealership, I was advised that I needed a complete replacement of the throttle body module at my expense. Why should I be held liable for the repair when Ford had already admitted that this was a known problem by calling it in for cleaning. This is certainly an issue for the NHTSA to act on. I think that the $882. 73 repair bill should be Ford's burden, not mine.
Vehicle would surge and loose power at all speeds. At times when pressing the accelerator the car would not respond, then all of the sudden would surge, then would lose power. Took it to the dealer recently as they told me that there was a recall. Dealer cleaned the throttle body only. Now it's worse. I was driving back from the dealer and the car lost power, wrench light on, and left me in the middle lane of the highway. Shut the car off and on again and continue but with minimal power. Took it to a mechanic who told me that the throttle body is getting stuck. I see this is happened to a lot of Freestyle owner, especially from 2005-2007. Car is dangerous to drive as it's unpredictable when surges will happen.
Had recall 12n03 performed due to surging, after repair car continued to surge when cold. When approaching stop car would not want to slow down, would put gear in neutral and tach would surge over 2000 rpm's, does this on a consistent basis. Continued to drive until car died while driving, got message for throttle body error, took to dealership and was informed that throttle body needs to be replaced at over $600. Recall repair done in April and car failed in July.
Engine sputter then failure. Then computer error states, fail safe engine mode. Diagnostic reveals throttle body failure. Common problem according to service department recall pending, why won't u act. Web full of this complaint.
I was parked. I put the car in drive. As I started to take my foot off the brake, the car lunged forward. I pressed the brake hard to stop the surge. It scared me. The next day, it happened again, several times. In reverse and drive, I watched the rpms go up without my foot touching the throttle. This is scary and unacceptable!.
Unintended acceleration-I stopped at traffic light and the engine stayed at a high rpm and did not drop to idle rpm. I was able to hold foot on brake until light turned green, the problem did not reoccur. I was not using cruise control. I took the car to my Ford dealer and they were unable to find anything wrong. This problem has not recurred but is very frightening when it occurs.
For the past few months my car has been lunging forward or backward when going at a low speed. For example, going into or coming out of a parking space, in a drive thru line, or waiting at a traffic light. The problem seem worse when it is hot outside and/or the air is on. Yesterday the problem happen again, engine stalled and when I restarted the car the check engine light came on. I have had a few near misses with the problem, coming close to hitting a little girl in a parking lot and almost running into a car at a drive thru line just to name a couple. I remember hearing about the same problem last year and am very shocked to see that Ford is taking a chance with peoples lives like this, why has there not been a recall issued to fix the problem?.
Vehicle lunges or surges when at idle or low speeds in forward and reverse.
Recently, my 2005 Ford Freestyle began lunging forward at slow speeds, and yesterday it did it twice in heavy traffic. I took it to big country Ford and they are trying to tell me it is my water-pump and air conditioner compressor. They also said my motor mount was broken, which was a common problem with the Freestyles and taurus x models. As I read online, the lunging problems seem to be common with these.
Vehicle lunges when starting out from parked, lunges in forward gear, and in reverse gear. I see that there are many people with the same complaint this is a serious safety problem. I had this problem multiple times before and have nearly injured someone when he stepped behind my vehicle as I put it into reverse to back out of a parking place. The car accelerated by itself, fortunately I was able to stop. However the braking is not sufficient when backing it is a very dangerous problem. This deserves your immediate attention. I have been involved in automotive repair for 40+yrs. And assure you there is no excuse for Fords not handling this. They are well aware that this exists and are ignoring a serious hazard. Any Ford service will admit that the problem exists and that they do not have a recall. I see now that there is a redesign due to the problem. Your power can force them to rectify this problem, and save serious injury from this point on. I have no doubt that many accidents have occurred and someone has been injured seriously. While stopped or at low speeds the car lunges forward suddenly. Only a quick application of the brake prevented an accident. We have had this problem several times last summer also as it seems to be aggravated by very hot weather and the use of the air conditioner. We got a check engine light and the dealer recommended a "throttle body update" and wants $945 but acknowledged they didn't know if this would fix the problem or not. I see this as a serious problem that has significant risk potential. Please investigate if other Freestyle owners are having the same issue. Thank you.
My car started lunging when moving at slow speeds, and I'd have to jam on brakes to keep it from hitting another car, building, etc. Happens primarily when a/c is on also. Loses power on acceleration, but lunges when applying slight gas in both reverse and forward. Scary beyond belief. I have a heart condition, and nearly fainted when it happened last time, at an intersection with wild traffic, and I had to jam the brakes to keep the car from going into traffic. Seen enough similar reports online that my next stop will be news media. Please help us!.
While driving on the highway at a speed of approximately 70 mph, the car (2005 Ford Freestyle) would not accelerate/maintain speed and quickly decelerated and had to be pulled into the emergency lane, coming to a complete stop. The car had to be turned off and restarted in order to continue traveling the 3 hours left in the 9 hour trip back home. The Ford service shop said the throttle body ($900), ac compressor ($1,300), and top engine mount ($330) need to be replaced. Based on what I've been able to read on the internet, this appears to be a recurring and dangerous theme with this Ford vehicle.
Vehicle unexpectedly and with great speed lurches in both forward and reverse. I notice the issue most often when pulling into or out of a parking spot or just after using the brake. The car suddenly accelerates without warning forcing me to slam on the brakes so that I do not hit other vehicles or unintentionally enter traffic. The issue is very dangerous because there is no forewarning and has appeared to be happening more often and with greater force.
Idling at traffic light with brakes pressed, engine starting revving up to over 2000 rpm. Vehicle started to surge and had to press brake pedal harder to stop. Vehicle moved approx 10 ft before it stopped. Issue happened repeatedly, but was not taken in to shop for diagnosis as it would not happen for quite a while. Has happened around 30 times since February. Today, 6/18/2012 while driving through town in stop-go traffic, vehicle started surging again. Wrench light came on as well as error wording of engine fail safe mode. Had to slowly maneuver into a parking lot and turn car off. Once restarted, lights went off and was able to make it home. Took it to local mechanic and they state this is common problem and the throttle body needs to be replaced (they just did on 05 Freestyle last Thursday with same symptoms). $758. 00 to replace. Really need some action on this investigation!.
