The vehicle began to surge on the hwy. The rpms would surge forward and relax to normal rpm speed. I received a recall letter a few day's ago. My worry is that I have taken it to repair facilities and they found nothing wrong. I am worried that I will have transmission problems because of the recall defect. I have read many posts about cvt transmission failure, it would appear that Ford is doing nothing about the transmission problems. I have owned Fords for over thirty years and if the cvt problems are not addressed. I will not buy another, my family will not buy again either.
I purchased my Ford Freestyle in June 2011 and shortly after my car began lunging forward when the air conditioner was on. My car began doing it in forward and reverse gear. I have taken my car to the dealer twice before. They replaced the air compresser, cleaned the throttle body, and reset the computer. This will treat the problem for awhile but it will allways come back. Last week I nearly hit a pedestrian in a cross walk when my car decided to lunge forward at a red light with my foot on the brake. My wife has nearly hit cars in drive through lines. Again I put my car in the shop and they are doing the same work as before. I have been pushed into intersections and nearly t-boned. I have almost hit cars when trying to back up. This car is not safe because even with my foot on the brake the car can move 5-8 feet. When the car lunges forward or backward it will most of the time rumble then die, which is dangerous when I am sent into an intersection with cars coming at me. Sometimes I am able to depress the gas pedal all the way, driving at 4000 rpms and slowly move out of the way. I worry about my family of six safety as well as any innocent that may get hurt because of Fords incapability to fix the problem they have created.
While at idle in reverse or forward car lunges and accelerates on its own if foot is not on brake 1this could cause serious accident or injury ive seen more complaints on this sight and relize that this is becoming a seriuos problem with these vehicles what can be about this problem.
My Ford Freestyle has engine surges, at idle it lunges forward and sometimes dies afterwards.
2005 Ford Freestyle unexpected surge at stoplight, controlled by applying brakes harder, and thenvechicle stalled. The event would have forcesd us into the intersection, possibiley causing body and property damage. This occurance also happened 1 week prior as we were pulling into a parking space. Both occurences happened after the ignition was turned off for 15-30 minutes and then restarted. This occurance has happened at leat 5 other times. On some of the occurences the engine light came on and the engine went to safe mode operation. Safe mode operation would cease if the ignition was turned off and the vechicle was allowed to sit for a time. First and second occurance happened after using an 10% etanahol mix from one particular company. The most recent occurances happened with a 10%etanol mix from two different suppliers. . Fuel system and air filter cleaned prior to the last two evnts.
When idling, car would surge briefly as if accelarator were pushed. After several inquires at Ford service about recalls, check engine light came on. Problem diagnosed as defective throttle body. Part replaced at a cost of $706. 85. Understand there have been several like instances reported. Surge could easily cause a collision either front or back.
During hotter weather if the car idles at a stop light or in traffic, it starts surging uncontrollably unless the brake pedal is depressed very firmly. Usually the check engine light and the fail safe mode engage. The engine speed surges up and down and tries to move the car. If the brake is not depressed very firmly car has hit curb and tried to climb onto the sidewalk.
My 2005 Ford Freestyle is surging after I put it in reverse as to back up in the parking lot. It lunges very fast and forcibly so that if I do not have a strong hold on the brake it will move. It also happens in forward position if I am not moving or moving very slowly say in a parking lot or drive thru. The air conditioning and or turning seems to make it worse. It does not happen everytime but happened very forcibly the other day. I am very concerned that it will lunge out of control and hit something or somebody. I have children in my car often including my infant. It seems to me to be some sort of safety defect which needs to be looked into.
While idling my Freestyle will accerate without my foot being on the gas pedal. I always am affraid to take my foot off the brake while idling just waiting for the car to jump forward.
From time to time the car surges as if the gas has been pressed really hard even though the pedal has not been pressed at all. The throttle body needs replaced.
I was in the drive threw of a fast food restaurant when the car suddenly plunged forward ,I had to put both feet on the brake to keep from hitting the car in front of me,and then the wrench light came on and the engine went into a failsafe mode. The mechanic I took it to informed me that most of these models were doing that but Ford wouldn't do a recall because a lawsuit was cheaper. Just the parts to temporarily fix the problem is over 450 dollars and then there is the labor to pay for.
Car was parked with out side air temperature 100+, started car and put it into reverse to back out of angle parking stall, car accelerated without throttle pedal not yet being pressed and I applied rapid brake stopping car. Engine wrench icon appeared on dash display with engine failsafe message showing. Shut off key, restarted and icons did not reappear. Same thing occurred two more times and I got car to dealer with throttle control (body) found to be defective and replaced by dealer for $938. 32. Problem came back on 07/24/2011 with mileage at 121216, air temperature 104 and engine shut down while attempting to park on city street with failsafe message showing. Shut off key and restarted car with no message reappearing. Took car to dealer and code for defective throttle body found with a replacement cost of $623. 05 suggested. Called Ford customer service with concern that fix was short lived and problem is dangerous and could come back anytime. Ford advised they have no recall in effect and engineering would be advised and my request for a call back could happen or not.
Had this problem previously and I experienced the problem again yesterday, may 31. Outside temperature 93. Ac on. In a convenice store parking lot. Car started lurching forward. Had to apply breaks hard as to not hit a parked car. Car stalled. Restarted, happend again. After the third time of lurching forward and stalling, the check engine light came on as did the wrench on the instrument panel. Couldn't drive at highway speed but managed to get to destination. After the car sat for 3 hours, was able to drive home at normal speed. The wrench is off, but the check engine light remains. Car seemed to drive normally this morning, June 1. Rpm still a bit high. Outside temp 89. I did not run the ac yet. Plan on calling Ford dealer to schedule service. Many online forums say this is a throttle body problem. I plan to ask the dealer to run a diagnostic to check the codes and will ask them to clean the throttle body and replace my air filter as well. Reported peviously #10372235. Again, driving slow, car surged forward. I ran into the door frame of my garage becuase the car just took off.
When parking, driving very slow (under 10mph) or backing up my car lunges forward with surge of power and foot on brake not gas. Sometimes it dies and gave error code engine failsafe mode. Worse when acon, don't remember it being an issue in the winter. Took to dobbs and was told it was my throttle body and my computer would need reset. Cleaned throttle body to see if that would correct issue. Improved, but did not correct. Very scary and dangerous in traffic, approaching stop signs, especially if pedestrians nearby. Fear could lunge at them.
The vehicle unexpectedly surges when turning into a parking space or sitting at drive through. Also having issues with engine dying when reversing.
2005 Ford Freestyle surges forward and in reverse as though the accelerator is being depressed. Once, with my two-year old daughter in the car, I pulled into my driveway and the car accelerated into the retaining wall; the damage was simple a buckled license plate but what if this happened on a busy highway/road. Ford claims there are no problems with this vehicle line surging unexpectedly although I've described what happens in detail.
Car lunges and surges while foot is on the brake. Rpm rev when in reverse or drive with foot on the brake. It has done this repeatedly since I bought the car and has gotten progressively worse. It used to happen more in the heat now is happening frequently. Perhaps now the dealership will believe me.
I own a 2005 Ford Freestyle with 95,720 miles. On July 10th, 2010, my car lurched forward and almost ran me through the front window of a jewelry store. My car message center then went in to "fail safe engine mode". The dealership told me the throttle body is bad and the car is not safe to drive. The new part will take an estimated 30-60 days to come in.
Vehicle lunges forward while putting in gear, either forward or reverse. Problem seems worse then the ac is running. Also, the vehicle has stalled a couple of times and idled very high when putting the car in park. This started happening around 70,000 miles and now have 74,000 and is happening quite often. I was told that it could be months before the throttle body part will be in and that it has to be pre paid before it can be ordered. The part is around $500 and that does not include labor. I have been in contact with Ford and they are going to try and expedite the part, but can not make any promises. I feel that this should be a recall as there are so many people having the same problem and this is a safety issue.
My 2005 Ford Freestyle seems to have issues at the initial start position. In the "park" position the car will revv without compressing the gas petal, it then lunges forward as you are attempting to put the car in either forward or reverse. It shudders and shakes, causing the engine to shut down completely and operate is the "safe" mode. The check engine light usually comes on. The vehicle had been seen on 3 different occasions ranging from April of 2010 to July 2010, each time the symptoms became worse, at one point while waiting at a red light just before entering the on-ramp to the highway, it stuttered, revved high and lunged into oncoming traffic, embarrassed, I continued to proceed forward to the on-ramp when the car suddenly shut down completely causing the 4 vehicles behind me to break hard, again almost causing another accident, I drove it directly to the dealer. The dealer did work on the vehicle and thought to have solved the issue. The issues started to occur in the winter and early spring before the usage of the a/c and became progressively worse as the summer months approached and the a/c full was in usage. It has been a almost 2 years since I have needed to report anything to the dealer. The fix did appear to lessen the intensity of the issue, but did not fix it entirely. It has continued to act up, but is back to the same intensity as the summer of 2010. The engine surged 3 times in an hour period last week and shut the engine down twice. When I called the dealer to report it, they told me that it would be considered a new issue since it has been almost 2 years since they had worked on the car for the same issue. They may have cleaned the throttle body in 2010, which reduced the surging intensity, but it did not solve the problem. Is Ford waiting for a major accident, fire or death to occur before this problem is resolved or replaced?!.
The car stalled while I was in las vegas. I was driving on the street and all of the sudden the speed went down and I could control the speed ("failed engine safe mode" appeared in the panel). I parked the vehicle, turned it off and re-started it. The problem didn't happen again. On my way back, took it to fairway Ford in placentia, California. They replaced the throttle body, air intake and engine roll restrictor. Car was ok until 6/6/14 with 65,330 miles when the same thing happend while driving around my house, took it to fairway Ford and it was recall 12n03 on the vehicle (never received a notice from Ford), they cleaned the throttle body and re-programmed the pcm. 2 mos. Later, 8/28/14 same thing happened, and fairway Ford told me they have to replace the throttle body assembly again and I have to pay $860. Called Ford customer service at 800-392-3673, talked to neida and she said I could get any financial assistance because the recall had expired. I escalated the situation, and a supervisor will call me back on Tuesday 9/2/14. If this happened on the freeway I could get rear ended and be killed.
My car lunges foreword or backward when I am in a stopped position this happens intermittently, and sometimes while I'm on the freeway. The dealership has had complaints about this but the part to repair it is on a back order situation since last year. My car is in the shop now so I cannot get the VIN# until later.
Throttle body, the car will surge randomly at stoplights or backing up with no warning. Very dangerous to drive.
I was not aware of the throttle control module was defected until I was involved in a vehicle accident (not the cause of the accident). I did notice in the past two years that it would accelarate on its own and nothing on the instrument panel showed I had a problem. It was after the accident that I was advised by the dealer that I had a problem and since the warranty expired that it was going to cost me over $500 to fix it. I was given an information sheet showing that my type of vehicle had throttle control problems but not enough to have a recall. I really need to find out if indeed my vehicle will be recalled.
Started car and was leaving restaurant parking space. Engine revved up several hundred rpm and car was lurching forward as I tried to hold it back with the brake pedal. People were walking in front of car heading toward restaurant. Car was lurching forward toward them and it was difficult to keep car from moving forward. The rpm's would go high enough to make the front tires spin a little bit on the paved parking lot. I killed the ignition to make car stop. The people thought I had been trying to assault them with the car because I didn't want to wait on them to walk across the parking lot in front of me. Mechanic checked car out and couldn't find anything. This happens pretty frequently. It is worse when air conditioner is on and is most common when in parking lots or driveway when not even using the accelerator.
I wanted to respond to the person under the miscellaneous area of complaints about the wrench light coming on and their vehicle stalling. I experienced this same problem a year ago. I was originally told I was not using proper motorcraft filter and paid for the service after my vehicle was towed. This happened about 3 more times each time calling the service dept and each time it was inspected by dealer who found no problem. Finally, after explaining exactly when the problem was occurring - only in stop and go situations - in and out of parking spaces and such and returning it to the shop one more time did they find a problem. They had to replace the entire throttle body and I've never had a problem since.
