I was in a red light and had a car in front and on back. Had my foot on the brake and all of a sudden the car started plunging forward as if I was pushing the gas pedal and my foot was on the brake. It was very scary because I had my children with me and I could of hit the car in front of us. I pushed the break harder all the way down and the car stopped plunging forward, then as the light when green I pushed on the gas and the car started acting weird it just keep plunging forward as if the gas pedal was pushing itself. This is not the first time this has happened it happens while you're driving on a stop or parking or reversing. I'm very concerned because this can cause an acciden specially with children in the car. I've been doing a lot of research and they're a lot of complaints about this issue. . Please for the safety of people please recall this car. Is a huge and scary problem.
Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Ford free style. The technician diagnosed that the throttle body needed replacement. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 209,120. Pam.
I was driving to work and the car just stopped. . It would not come back on, it would not turn over with the key, so I had to tow it home it will move 12 inches forward and backward.
Vehicle would not slow as exit off freeway, rpms increased against braking system. Very dangerous and would not slow. Almost lost control of vehicle. Also, continues to worsen, lungin forward and in reverse.
So many issues with the transmission not sure where to start. Car was running fine yesterday and then today car had the wrench light on and lost power on the expressway at about 75 mph. Turned the card off and the light was still on but at least I got partial power. The car shudders and won't shift and sometimes when I push the gas pedal nothing happens. When I am stopped car will lunge forward even with my foot on the brake. Called several Ford dealerships and they said they are not certified to work on that type of trans but they will replace it for 7000. 00!!!! I have read so many posts with the exact same issue. Why is there no recall?? I could have been killed!!! or worse my kids could have been hurt. Doesn't anyone care enough to do something?.
While backing up the car lunges when foot is still on the brake. Car will occasionally lunge forward when pulling out of a parking spot or when stopped at traffic light or stop sign. Very unsafe!!!!!! must make sure my foot is on the brake hard when stopped or be ready to quickly brake when backing up. The ac is sometimes on when this happens and the temperature is in the upper 80's. We live in colorado springs, CO and 80 degree temp are pretty hot here. Lately it has been in the 90 degree + range and the issue has been happening more. My wife mostly drives this car and our teenage daughter, new drive with a permit, is learning to drive, this is not safe!!!. Please put pressure on Ford to fix this safety item. Seems like may others are having the same issue. Will it take for someone to be seriously hurt or killed before this gets looked at? how many accidents major or minor has this caused? how many insurance rates have increased because of these accidents? please do something about this!!!!!!!.
Our car lunges when at low speeds. Usually from a stop as I let off the brake pedal it lunges forward. Aggressively pushing on the brake pedal stops the vehicle. It seems to happen when the ac is on.
Was driving to work car picked up speed to where the brakes would not stop then the car just went off.
Car lunged forward with foot firmly on the brake, this also happened when the car was in reverse. This lunging stopped when the brake was applied, this has happened several times since then.
I was approaching an intersection at about 1-5 mph and pressing the brakes, then the car lunged forward and moved 2 to 4 feet (at no point I pressed the gas pedal). After that, the gas pedal did not work, and I had to restart the car to be able to move it again. This all happened at an intersection. I believe this is a very dangerous problem. With the lunge I could have hit a pedestrian. With the need to re-start at the middle of a congested intersection, I could have been hit by a car moving in the opposite direction.
The car is surging and lunging (see pending investigation from may 2011). Also, when running the a/c it starts to go off and on by itself, then the engine starts to shut off and on, and all gages go to zero, like the car is losing power.
We purchased a brand new 2006 Ford Freestyle in March, 2007. On June 14, 2011, and to a lesser extent, periodically since vehicle purchase, the vehicle's engine surged while my foot was on the brake pedal; the vehicle failed to accelerate to normal speed; and, it acted like it didn't want to shift into next gear. The June 14, 2011 occurrence was the worst one, plus, the wrench light came on. Our local Ford dealership diagnosis is that the throttle body needs to be replaced. . . At only 37,200 miles. Repair estimate from the dealership to replace the part is $836. 48. Dealership also determined that an engine mount bracket/gasket needs to be replaced for cost of $424. 00; rear brakes will be needed within 5,00 miles for $374, if new rotors are needed; and, new battery is needed now for a cost of $138. . . All this at only 37,200 miles. We foolishly purchased an extended warranty when we bought the vehicle. Ford tells us that the warranty only covers the power train, and since the throttle body is considered to be electronic, the warranty will not apply. We were led to believe that it was a bumper-to-bumper extended warranty when we agreed to purchase the warranty. We are very unhappy campers! no more extended warranties for us. We believe that Ford should be responsible at least for the throttle body replacement, in full. We are afraid to drive the vehicle now, and even when it is "repaired" we will still be afraid because of the history of the Freestyle problems that we have read about online. Please help! thanks.
Vehicle will accelerate while foot is on the brake pedal. Happens mostly when backing but will happen also when in drive. Seems to happen as wheel is turned slightly in either direction, but not for sure. Also seems to happen more in very hot weather or after vehicle has been driven for a while. Acceleration is minor to moderate and happens unexpectedly. Ford reprogrammed computer last summer but still occurs. Vehicle is also wearing out right rear brake faster that other brakes.
My issue started almost a about a year ago. I was in a parking lot waiting for my son and had air conditioner on and we sat for about 30 min. As soon as I pushed brake in and about to put in d we lunged a couple of times and I was able to stop with brake. I tried again and we lunged again. I put in r and we bolted out of spot. Luckily no one was behind us. Finally was able to get in d and then we stalled. I've had the transmission cleaned and fluids replaced, but we have been having the same issue over this past year. The latest episode was when I finally got the car to drive and I was barely moving. I was on a busy road trying to go past 10mph. I am seeing tons of complaints about this same issue and am wondering why this hasn't been solved????? it is obviously a defect. Why wait till someone gets killed and then sues.
My 2006 Ford lunges. It also loses power and cuts off while trying to drive. This happens everywhere and anywhere. Even if my foot is on the brake it will lunge forward or backward it does no discriminate. This happens all the time. It's also worse when the air conditioning is on. This could potentially be a serious situation on the highways and local streets, if the car is just cutting off while driving down the road. Lunging forward/backward could become potentially serious as well. I really hope that Ford takes responsibility for these issues. Especially since they stopped making the Freestyle what 3 yrs later. It seems to me that they realized there was some kind of an issue why else would they quit making it? I have to say other than that major problem of lunging and going through rear brakes the car itself is wonderful and not my first Ford. I love Ford vehicles, unfortunatley I am a little disappointed with this one. If Ford would take responsibility and fix it that would be great! I can't afford to fix it nor get another vehicle. I feel like I have a lemon on my hands.
I have always owned Fords however this is by far the scariest Ford car ever and to me the unsafest!! I purchased my Ford Freestyle back in October 2010. Ever since then my car seems to have a mind of its own. When I am completely stopped my car will automatically lunge forward and even stall when I am turning my wheel. I have a 5 year old child who I drive everyday to school in this death trap and it scares me to death. I have tried talking to my Ford dealership about this since the car was like this when I bought it but of course they want me to spend all this money I do not have on repairs. . . After internet research it appears there are hundreds of people that have the same problem with this vehicle. Why isn't anyone doing something about this to protect the consumer? it is very scary and I do not understand why the car is lunging forward and backwards if backing up when my foot is clearly on the brake as well as stalling . I hope someone will do something about it before someone ends up in an accident or even dead because of this!! that would be a serious lawsuit I am sure. This is a serious issue please please do a recall on it now if not for me for the sake of someone's life who is driving one of these unsafe vehicles.
My '06 Ford Freestyle has been having problems with surging forward especially when moving slowly back and forth into a parking spot. At times it even stalls. The surge causes the car to rapidly accelerate and I'm forced to slam on the brakes to avoid hitting the car, wall, person, or whatever is in front of me. It usually happens when the ac is on. I have taken the car to a Ford service station on three different occasions and they have been unable to detect the problem. On the first attempt, they could not duplicate my concern. The next two times I went into the car with the technicians and they did experience the surging motion. However, when running the diagnostic on the car, no problems were indicated. Most recently, the electrical system was updated on the car and I was sent home, as the technicians said they drove the car and no longer felt the surging. By the time I exited the highway (5 miles later) the car was surging and threatening to stall out. I have been researching online and have discovered multiple Freestyle owners with the same complaint. Most have indicated that the cause is the throttle body. I have made another appointment to bring in my car tomorrow and have photocopied some of those complaints. If this issue is prevalent in Ford Freestyles, there should be a recall for our vehicles to be repaired at Ford's expense. Driving my 4 year old car should not make me feel like my life is in danger.
3rd set of back brakes 37623 miles on car 3 1/2 years old. Brakes are dragging fixed once by Ford told it was the last time Ford would pay for it.
Rear brakes wear out unusually fast, in the first 18,000 miles. Sound Ford will not do anything about this issue either. This is the 2nd time I have had to replace my rear brakes and rotors that were completely ruined in 38,000 miles of usual driving. I have also experienced unusual tire wear. The insides of the tires go bald with in the first 35,000 miles even with routine servicing and rotations.
My husband was stopped at a red light. All of a sudden the car just went forward through the light, even though he was holding the brake pedal down. Thankfully no cars hit us. We thought perhaps it was just something weird that happened. I continued to drive it and it happened two more times. I called Ford. They told me that there was no recall and I should take it to a Ford dealership to have it tested. The dealership said that they had had this happen on quite a few of their cars, and that even though the computer didn't show anything, they recommended that we have a new throttle put in the car. We did and paid $800. To have it done. We had also talked to a different mechanic who also confirmed that he had quite a few Fords come in with this same problem. Ford told us that they would not pay for it unless there was a recall. They car was not safe to drive, therefore we paid for the repair.
Throttle body failed twice. Had repaired because vehicle lunged and almost hit a lady at kroger grocery store. Foot was firm on brake. Very dangerous in my opinion . I'm a Ford motor company employee and I've heard this problem from friends at work . Also engine races sometimes.
When placed in reverse the auto would surge without warning, as if the fuel pedal were applied. This also did it when going from reverse to forward. Had to keep foot firmly on the brake at all times or risk an accident. Car became very difficult to drive when this occurred. At 80,472 miles. Engine check light stayed on after another surge problem that stalled the auto. Ray skillman Ford in greenwood, in determined it was the "throttle body". It was replaced and while the service man drove the car, the entire a/c unit went out. They put a new clutch & compressor. After calling several Ford dealerships, there has been a huge backorder of these throttle body's. Capital city Ford is installing two a day the same with ray skillman Ford.
I was transporting my children on a hot day. We were idling with the a/c on. The vehicle was not in motion. I had my foot pressed firmly on the brake. The vehicle then lunged forward several feet. There were no impacts or accidents, but as I began to accelerate, the vehicle acted as if it was going to stall. It was sputtering and kept lunging as if I had removed my foot from the clutch the check engine / wrench light came on and the vehicle died. I tried to restart the vehicle multiple times, and it did eventually turn back on, but the vehicle was sluggish and continued lunging. I brought the vehicle to our local Ford dealer, jackson Ford-Mercury tag #540, as it was still under warranty. They checked the air conditioner and found nothing wrong. I took the vehicle back to the same dealer a short time later for the same problem and again they could find no problems. As the season changed, the problem cleared up. We were no longer using the a/c. The following summer, same conditions, same problem. I took it to a different Ford dealership big valley Lincoln Ford Mercury ro # 625097 and explained the problem and provided the repair tag number. After performing a mult-ipoint inspection, not once, but twice, and a diagnostic hvac system check, they also could find no problem to repair. Concerned that our warranty was getting ready to expire, we asked them to document the incident. We've taken the vehicle to many local mechanics as well. I am unsure of which parts are actually faulty because the vehicle has never been able to be diagnosed. We don't utilize the a/c because it causes the vehicle to stall and fails to cool the air properly anyway. I believe my vehicle is encountering the same defect as many of the others described up here and I think that Ford should repair the defect, as I and many other consumers purchased these vehicles in good faith.
Anti lock brake pump defective, luckily discovered before serious injury. Back brakes already replaced one time on Ford 2006 Freestyle. No dashboard indicators ever came on, only realized the problem because the brake pedal did not feel right while using brakes. Ford needs to check this out and issue a recall before someone is injured. We were just lucky.
We purchased a used Ford Freestyle just over 18 months ago and have had to have the brakes replaced twice. . . There have been no accidents involved with these yet but we have a small son and I take care of them before there is a failure. . . And from what I have read there have been more than a few Ford owners who have had problems with this. . .
The rear brakes on my 06 Ford Freestyle are completely worn at 38000 miles. Rear brakes should not wear that fast.
The brakes and rotors of this vehicle are pre-maturely wearing having to be replaced at 19k by the dealer. I now have 31k and the replaced set is already 60% used. This concerns me greatly as the really makes the car unsafe. Tires on this vehicle are also wearing faster then normal. Will need replacement soon.
Since we first purchased the car, we have been complaining that our tires have been wearing out too quickly, show unusual signs of wear. After the third visit to the dealers, I contacted Ford to express my frustration regarding the tires and that fact that I had to continually replace these tires at my cost ? it was unusual that tires were wearing out with less than 20,000 miles on the vehicle. Ford motor company denied any responsibility for the tire, suggesting that the unusual wear was a factor that was being caused roads within new hampshire and improper maintenance and our failure to keep our tire aligned and balanced. On August 26th, 2007 - my car began to experience some a wobbling in the car as if the car was out of alignment - with a five minute period, it started to feel like we had a flat tire. I pulled to the side of the road and inspected the tires on the vehicle, which did not appear to be flat. Again I proceeded down the road and within the next 500 my car began to experience some a sever wobbling, violently shaking the car. Again, I got out of the car to inspect the tires assuming that this was being caused being caused by a flat tire. Again, all of the tires appeared to be fine, who ever I did notice that left rear passenger tire appeared to wobble when I pushed on it with my foot. Assuming that the tire might be lose, I proceed to jack up the vehicle in an effort to determine if the tire was potentially loose what I discover, was that the tire was fine, instead, the entire left assemble (tire, disk brake assembly and the rotor) were coming off the car?.
Purchased a used 2006 Ford Freestyle with only 11,500 miles and the vehicle needed new brakes all the way around at this early mileage. I believe the brakes are defective on all Ford Freestyles from both 2005 and 2006 the only years these vehicles have been produced, Ford needs to recall for brake issues.
