Automatic Transmission problems of the 2007 Ford Freestyle - part 1

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while driving approximately 55 mph or above, the vehicle would suddenly go into limp mode and fail to accelerate. There was a warning light that displayed a wrench however, the contact did not know what was indicated specifically. The contact had not taken the vehicle to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact stated that after researching the cause of the failure he became aware that the transmission was faulty. Additionally, that type of transmission was discontinued by the manufacturer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 100,000.

My 2007 Ford Freestyle has a cvt transmission problem. When I arrived at the hotel, the valet parking driver almost hit the car on the front because of sudden accelerator of the transmission. I also almost hit another car after that.

When transmission is placed into reverse or drive, the engine will surge at idle speed. It creates a very scary situation especially in parking lots. The surge usually happens right after the transmission shift and then can happen at any time, usually at idle speed. Took it to the dealer for repair and they said it need a new throttle body. I've seen hundreds of other posts about this same issue with model years 05-07 Freestyles.

Taken it to 3 different Ford dealerships in austin texas and have been told that I need injector flush and gas and air filters changed which may result in problem going away. Another dealer wants to change the throttle body assembly blaming the problem on ethenol in the gasoline. They also want to do the previous services as well. Costs have ranged from 616. 00 to 1200. 00. Found numerous forums about this issue with hundreds or more complaints about the same problems but Ford is saying that this is not a serious problem or that they do not see many of these issues. The problem of lunging has been more apparent over the last 10,000 miles (car is at 86000miles) there does not seem t.

Our 2007 Ford Freestyle has begun lurching when at a slow speed both in reverse and in drive. Tonight it lurched forward while I was parking and I nearly hit the car in front of me. This kind of thing has also happened while backing up. It has happened several times recently. It then displayed the wrench warning light on the dash, which, according to the manual means there's a transaxle problem.

I have a 2007 Ford Freestyle . The transmission has gone out in my car. I have experience unconditional "surging" while the car was in gear. I have gone without running the air conditioner, thinking that was the "cause" of the car surging (taking off). The increase acceleration (revving) of the speedometer and rpm gauges were very alarming. The occurrences were many throughout the two years of me driving the car. The wrench appeared while I was driving, the car died. I pulled over and started the car back up. It hesitated after two tries, it finally turned over. I preceded to go to t my next destination three hours later, after transporting the athletes that I coach, the car stop as we were traveling down the road (on going traffic) . There is where "everything " went pieces. The car was not getting any gas, it would not go into drive nor reverse. I was scared and devastated, the kids were frightened, screaming out that we were going to die. I am praying that Ford would make a justifiable decision on recalling this make and model before "tragedy" stumble upon their company, confused & concern.

Started my 2007 Ford Freestyle in a parking lot put it in reverse and all of a sudden it lunged backwards almost hitting a pedestrian. It has been doing this for about 6 months now but this is the first time someone was almost hit. It usually does it when shifting into forward or reverse from neutral took it into bowe scarff Ford in kent, washington when it first started and they did some sort of software update ( they claim) but it has never fixed the problem.

Car was reported to stall on a hot day while the air conditioner was on. When car was put into reverse or drive the car stalled and then went into failsafe mode (wrench light). Car did not appear to lurch forward as has been reported. Problem happened one time.

My car has been lunging for the last few weeks, and I almost hit another car. Last week, when I got in, the wrench light came on. I immeidately started driving to the dealer. I lost power for a few seconds and then my car would hardly shift. The lunging was the really scary thing, and now they are saying my transmission needs to be replaced, and it is out of warranty by one month.

During low speeds, idling speeds, car accelerates or surges. More noticeable when air conditioning is running or in idle mode in drive up lines. Wrench warning light comes on. If I turn car off and then back on it usually removes the problem. Occurs when going forward or backwards.

My Freestyle which I purchased new has been at the dealer multiple times for lunging. When it lunges it throws the wrench light. Last incident is the incident date below. Same as pe11018.

We are experiencing the lunging and sudden acceleration at idle speed on our 2007 Ford Freestyle. When moving in a parking lot, it is very apparent, particularly as you change from reverse to forward. You really need to pay attention, and keep your foot on the brake because the vehicle does lunge. We recently have had another issue with this vehicle while driving on vacation. The little "wrench" appeared near the end of our trip and the vehicle appeared to be losing "power" to the wheels. After the vehicle cooled down, it operated normally and the wrench did not appear again, yet.

2007 Freestyle lunges forward after putting it in gear. Requires a lot of pressure on the brake in order for it not to do an commanded forward movement. This is very unsafe.

I recently bought a used 2007 Ford Freestyle for a used car dealership. After owning the carfor a couple of months, I was sitting in a dirve-thru line when I noticed my car started surging forward while my fott was on the brake. I became concerned that I might hit the car ahead of me so I got out of line and parked the car. After some down time I was able to re-start the car and for that night had no other problems. Now over the last month I have noticed the surging more and more often and am concerned I will be in a situation where I can't just get out of line and some damage will happen of injury. I have found by researching on-line that is a known problem with the Ford Freestyle and I would just like to report that I feel continued driving of this vehicle may be dangerous but, it is the only vehicle I have to drive and have no other choics.

Vehicle surges without driver's foot on the accelerator. Engine revs and vehicle lurches forward until brakes applied at which time engine may die. A warning light may or may not illuminate on the dashboard as a "wrench" symbol. When the ignition is turned off and restarted, the warning light designated by a "wrench" symbol goes out.

2007 Ford Freestyle lunges forward without warning we thought it was when the a/c was running but it happens without I the a/c on. We have almost hit a few cars when in traffic. I know that they are investigating this situation, but something needs to be fixed. We cant be having this happening with out son in the car.

Own a Ford Freestyle 2007. When I put the car into drive, while the a/c was on, the car "lunged" forward and the "wrench" light came on the dashboard. I checked my manual and it referred to the throttle body possibly having an issue. I immediately shut off a/c and shut car off. I then restarted car and the wrench has not appeared since.

2007 Ford Freestyle lunged twice in may, 2011 while pulling into parking spot. Incident happened at 55,000 miles. Slammed on brakes and did not hit neighboring vehicles. Early in June 2011, had our ac replaced which was not working. Immediately after ac was working again, car lunged, wrench light appeared and vehicle stalled during a low speed turn. Car proceeded to lunge and surge regularly when it was put in reverse or drive. With foot firmly on brake and putting the car in park, rpms would go between 3000 and 5000. Then car would die. With experimenting, car would not do it when air conditioning was turned off. We researched internet and learned about surging and throttle body problems. Had fuel induction service performed and have not had recurrence in 90+ days. Did not replace throttle body yet but suspect it will be clogged up again with time and mileage. We can't predict when the surging will happen. We will not let our teenager drive this vehicle. It is very unsafe and needs to be recalled for this reason.

My 2007 Ford Freestyle started jumping or lunging when I would be parking. I would have my foot firmly on the break and was about to put the gear in park when the car would just jump or lunge forward. I would push harder on the brake and it would stop. Fortunatly, I did not hit a car or wall in front of me. After this happened several times over a three week period, I took the car in for service this week and they had to replace the thontrol. It cost me $856. 64 at my local Ford dealership.

Surges up to 2000 rpm when slowly turning into a parking space, driveway, etc. Brakes have to be forcefully applied to avoid the vehicle surging forward and hitting something or someone.

My 2007 Ford Freestyle started making a "reving up" type sound when car was in park or reverse. It would feel like it was going to lunge forward if I was stopped at a light ect. It stalled out on me and the wrench light would come on. It would start back up. I took it to the dealer ASAP when this started happening. I have approx 80,000 miles on my car and was told I was past my warrantly due to mileage and they would not honor the 5 yr warrantly. The dealer had me call Ford to see if they could help me out with adjusting the cost of repair. Needless to say-this appeared to be a scam to get your car repaired at the dealer. I am now looking at $2500 in repairs to fix a bad bearing in my transmition. This car should be recalled on these transmission problems! Ford needs to stand by their customers! I wonder why they stopped making Freestyles? who is going to bail us out on these repair bills?.

2007 Ford Freestyle, it has been lurching and accelerating and then stalling off and on over the past 2 years. We have had it checked out twice and the mechanics can find nothing wrong. Last week the car started having a high pitched whining sound, had the wheel bearing checked, nothing wrong. Then the car in the middle of the highway just quit going forward, the car was still running, but would not go anywhere. Having it towed to the dealer, pretty sure it is the cvt transmission. The car has 78,000 miles on it.

My 2007 for Freestyle is having lunging issues. I often notice it when it's very hot and the air conditioner is running and/or when I'm parking. I've also noticed the wrench lite appear a few times. Other times, my car looses power completely and shuts off. Other times, it feels like I am loosing power when I'm driving. Almost as if the car is down shifting to a lower gear.

I bought Ford Freestyle about 4 months ago,now I am having problems with the throttle and espically the transmission which stalls out in the middle of driving. Also, when on the interstate it does the same thing. Had it checked out and going to have to get some major worked done on the engine.

2007 Ford Freestyle: wrench light on dashboard came on indicating throttle control/transmission problem. Car stalled and surged for 4 miles. Throttle body replaced at 36,819 miles.

Traction control and check engine lights come on. Dealership replaced awd pump under warranty. Lights are still coming on. Dealership says problem is "dem" module in rear axle. Dem is not considered a powertrain part and dealership wants $5000 to fix it.

I have a 2007 Ford Freestyle that I have had for a little over a year now. I first experienced my car not able to go over twenty mile per hour about three months ago and my check engine light and transmission light came on. I got it home shut it off and everything was fine till about three weeks ago. When my car is in park and when I put it in reverse it makes a funny winding sound and about a week ago my wife was driving it and all the lights came on again and she couldn't even drive it anymore it was hurky jerky and got it back to the house. Now I take it in and the mechanic says its the transmission. The computer is saying that it is a problem with a transmission as well. After researching the problem a little more it seems that a lot of people out there are having the same problem with Ford not doing anything to start a recall on this problem. This problem could of have been alot worse for me and my family and had a horrible crash because of this problem. . My car only has a little over 67000 miles on it and should not be doing this already and especially after I keep up with the maintenance on this vehicle. It is going to cost me over 4000 dollars to get this fixed on something Ford has seem coming and is doing nothing about this. This is probably the reason they stopped making this model only after three years. If someone could look into this for me ,that would be great!!!!!!!!!.

I bought a used 2007 Ford Freestyle from what I thought was a reputable dealer two weeks ago. I have now been told after having problems wit the car accelerating in reverse when I let off the brake, and having the wrench light come on the dash, that I have a failed throttle body/ transmission that will cost in the thousands of dollars to fix. I have researched on line since then and found that this is a major problem with thousand of other people who have purchased this vehicle. The transmission/throttle body on this car is defective and Ford should replace it immediately! why is this not on a recall list??.

2007 Ford Freestyle sudden lurching in forward and reverse . Some times followed by engine stall and check engine light come on. This has happened at stop signs, while in drive this, and backing about of parking spots. It was taken to certified mechanic. They could not duplicate problem (they said that code did not show) I t is now in the shop again as it is not safe to drive.

Ford Freestyle '07 less than 36k miles. . . Vehicle surged forward while foot was on brake pedal. . . Vehicle then died in middle of highway. Could not drive in stop and go traffic while on highway because fear of ramming into vehicle ahead of me. Happened one time before while vehicle was in reverse with foot on brake pedal. . . We purchased a 2007 Ford Freestyle earlier this year. Shortly, after purchasing the vehicle it started lunging forward while the brake was being held down. In addition, the lunging would also occur when the car was in reverse and the brake was being held. There were a couple of instances, where the car stalled and the wrench light came on. The car was turned off and waited a couple of minutes, and then restarted the car. The wrench light went out. The vehicle was taken to a Ford dealership, who told us nothing was wrong with the car. Immediately after picking up the car from the dealership it started the lunging. I read on a forum that other Ford Freestyle owners were experiencing the same problem. Some of the owners had gotten a fuel induction service. We went to a different Ford dealership for the fuel induction service. The vehicle has not been lunging since we had the service.

The failure would also occur when driving at low speeds. In addition, the vehicle would intermittently stall without warning. The dealer diagnosed the failure within the transmission and advised replacing. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 73,000.

This started about a month ago on my 2007 Ford Freestyle with 44,000 miles. The car lunges forward with foot on brake and then stalls. It also occurs when going in reverse. I've almost hit cars in parking lots 3 times. It's intermittent and seems to happen more when it's hot outside ant the ac is on. Ford dealers says there aren't any recalls and I'm out of warranty. They tell me there well aware of the problems with this and that the issue is the throttle body. Cost of repairs is $700-$1000.
