1 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2020

My 2007 Ford Freestyle 2wd cvt transmission making noise in park and neutral. Took to mechanic and was informed that the input shaft and bearing was bad. Transmission shop said same thing. Did research and found hundreds and hundreds of complaints about same issue.

2 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2019

Transmission makes a buzzin, whirring sound in park and reverse. . . From what I read online from many others. . This noise preludes transmission failure while driving down the road. . . Most of the time causing an emergency situation that could cause an accident with personal injury. . . Ford is aware of the problem, or should be by the numerous complaints over the years, but has yet to owe up to the transmission failures, causing a monetary hardship for the owners of said vehicles or the almost total loss of the vehicles value. It is the responsibility of the NHTSA to investigate complaints such as these, then demand the manufacturers start the recall process to permanently repair said transmissions ( cvt ) or replace complete unit at manufacturers expense. Start the job you people are paid generously to do. U tube has many videos of people telling their problems, and videos of mechanics explaining the problems.

3 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2015

Put car in drive started down the street when all of a sudden the transmission started making noise and the car started slowing down. I pulled over and parked the car then turned it off, try to start it back up but the car would not move when put in drive. It would reverse but it would not go forward. Had to call fro a tow truck and have vehicle towed to dealer. The following codes showed up when the repair shop checked the transmission: po 218, po 701, po868, po871, po961. The Ford dealership said that the transmission would have to be replaced because the transmission was dead. I have looked up the Ford Freestyle and have found that there are many vehicles with this same problem. I could have had a bad accident I was on the highway because the vehicle stopped in the middle of the road and traffic had to veer around me to keep from hitting me. I had children in the vehicle we could have died. A new transmission cost me $2200. 00 and the cost to have it replaced was $900. 00. I believe that I should get some kind of compensation for a problem that you knew the vehicle has with it's transmission.

6 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 02/14/2014

Bought this car used 2 years ago. Car started making a loud noise, but when put in drive, it quiets a little. Not running well at all. Took it to get it looked at, 1st replaced a bad water pump (almost 700) and then was told it's the transmission. They want $6k for, which I don't have. I still owe $6k on the car. So, I am basically stuck w a car that doesn't work and I can't sell or trade in, nor can I afford to at this point.

When car is running there is noise coming from transmission, (has been varify by a Ford dealership) that it needs a transmission. It has been getting louder and our ext warranty has expired according to dealer. Cost of repairs is $6000 to $8000. This seems to be and issue with this vehicle, but Ford motor company said they havent heard of this,Ford also said we shouldn't drive it, but we have no choice. Car only has 64'000 miles.

10 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2013

I had bought a Freestyle in 2012, the vehicle started make a noise from the transmission. Had it checked out to were I was told it needed to be flushed. After the service the trans was alright for about another month and started again while on the highway. . The trans then proceeded to make a terrible noise and and then started to sound like a helicopter and lost the drive gear. This transmission is not safe to be in a vehicle, also has been said by many employees that it is unsafe. I hope this can get looked into again and be taken care of!.

11 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 02/25/2013

My 2007 Ford Freestyle began lunging while sitting in traffic and soon after that began making a grinding noise. I took my car to a local Ford dealership and was told that it would be around $5000 to pull and check the transmission. This is crazy. I had several problems with the lunging forward and now this noise which Ford states they are not responsible for. The car only has 50,000 miles on it. I do believe this is a safety issue and now I'm left without a car to drive because I'm afraid I will do further damage to the transmission or even yet hurt someone with the lunging problem. I don't think I should be responsible for a problem that Ford needs to correct and it is a safety issue.

15 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2012

After enduring a summer filled with the typical surging issue, the transmission started making a light grinding sound in park and neutral. Come December 2012, I received a recall notice from Ford concerning the throttle body issue, and in January 2013 took it in for the recall service. About a week later, the cvt transmission's grinding noise had gotten worse, so I took it into the Ford dealer here in town and they said I needed a new transmission to the tune of over $6000. Needless to say, I do not have $6000 to put into a 6 year old car that I still owe $8000 on (bought it in 2010). I've had tires last longer than this transmission, which is currently at 62,000 miles. Unthinkable that Ford has produced such a flawed major component like a transmission, and not stood behind it, or supplies parts for it. I am livid, and after owning Fords for over 30 years I have no idea what I will get next. I feel like I've been taken advantage of, and this Freestyle is indeed a lemon. The car is unsafe to drive, and the cost to repair is not in line with the taurus x of 2008 which they introduced a transmission that actually worked.

16 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2012

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, he heard a loud noise as the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was found that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 100,700.

17 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2012

I bought my 2007 Ford Freestyle awd in June 2011 with approximately 72,000 miles on it. It started having a whining noise - almost like a pump - after the 75000 mile mark passed. I was not able to purchase an extended warranty because they are not available to purchase after 75k miles. I addressed the noise complaint with a mechanic and after replacing the power steering pump, the noise did not subside. A couple of months later, the traction control light would come on intermittently for no reason; but then go off once the car was restarted. The noise increased slightly, and 2 days after the increase in noise, the transmission failed suddenly. I was driving at approximately 45 miles per hour on the road, and the wrench light and traction control lights both went on and the rpm's went through the roof while acceleration slowed. I was able to get to the side of the road because I had enough speed going from seconds before the transmission failed. No other gears worked. After the vehicle was towed to the garage, I was told the transmission was completely wrecked; and this problem is one that the transmission technician has seen often from Ford Freestyle's. I contacted Ford customer relations and they told me that there was no assistance that they could offer me. Online automotive forums are packed with complaints from customers who had similar experiences to mine - transmissions failing long before they should; and often in a timeframe when no extended warranty is available. Now, I cannot replace the transmission with a used one because it is likely it will fail again; and my only logical purchase is to get a Ford remanufactured one for $4000+ because it is the only one with a 3 year warranty. Losing a transmission is dangerous - had I been going uphill slowly; been driving in bad weather; or in any other likely situation, it could have been much worse.

18 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2011

Last year my car just stopped running, we thought it was the alternator so we put a new one in. That worked for a little while, but the humming noise returned and has gotten louder. Upon further investigation into the car it is in the transmission part. It is quiet as long as it is not going down the road. As soon as you get any speed it whines terrible. It is so loud you can hear it over large equipment running. This is the second vehicle I have purchased from Ford with the same failure. It needs to be recalled like the other transmissions.

19 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2011

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that the vehicle was parked when she heard a humming noise. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer for diagnostics, where the technicians stated that the input shaft bearing failed and the transmission would need to be overhauled. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 69,150.

20 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2011

Our 2007 Ford Freestyle (70124) began making a noise in park and neutral. Took it to dealership and was told the cvt transmission needed to be replaced at a cost of $4384 with labor and flush $5618. 87 to repair. After reading other accounts here I also recognize the lurching forward. Tried to trade vehicle but cost of repair takes away trade in value. We will wait for a push pull and drag sale and try to get at least enough for it to get another vehicle. Was told that the new replacement transmission carries a 100,000 mile warranty. Why did the current transmission have only 60,000 mile warranty. We were told Ford is the only place to get the new transmission. Win win situation for Ford at customer expense. One solution for Ford to consider if they cannot do a recall is to refinance vehicles for transmission repair at cost. They should not just abandon their customers.

21 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 01/28/2011

Noise coming from engine. Took it to dealer found that the transmission is bad, do to a bent shaft.

22 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2010

2007 Ford Freestyle has noise coming from underneath near the front. It is out of warranty with 120,000 miles. Brought it in to mechanic thinking it was a wheel bearing or something similar. According to four separate repair shops it is the transmission. Lowest cost to fix, that I could find, is 4300 dollars, which is more than half of what I still owe on it. For something to cost that much to repair is a shame. I can understand car parts failing, even transmissions, but not for that much. I had a transmission fail in another Ford, a couple months before this one, and it was 2000 dollars to fix. Expensive, yes, but not over 4000 freakin dollars. I could have the entire engine replaced on this 2007 Freestyle for cheaper than the transmission. Ford could at least offer some kind of break on these transmissions if not a recall. I am aware of a lot of people having transmission problems with these Freestyles. If something doesn't happen for these soon, I will not be sad to never buy a Ford again.

23 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2010

Cvt transmission on 2007 Ford Freestyle was making a noise in park and reverse, dealer said transmission needed a part that was on national back order but was safe to drive. A few days later, we experienced a more severe transmission issue with the car surging forward when reverse or drive is engaged. In addition, the car is unable to accelerate over 30 mph and once foot is off the accelerator, the car quickly loses speed. This will be the third problem I have experienced with the cvt transmission and the car has less than 45,000 miles. Current status: part continues to be on back order and dealer customer service has been terrible in terms of providing loaner car and status updates etc. . .

24 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that when having the brakes applied, the vehicle would lunge forward and the engine rpm's would increase drastically. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where they advised him that the fuel injection system had failed. In addition, the contact would hear a loud noise from the vehicle when driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where they advised him that he needed a new transmission. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and they offered no assistance. The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was approximately 74,000. The VIN was unavailable.

25 Transmission Noise problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2009

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while driving 25 mph, the transmission failed. The vehicle hesitated, surged, and emitted a loud noise. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for an inspection and they stated that the automatic transmission assembly needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified and they stated that the vehicle was already repaired under warranty once. The contact would have to pay to have it repaired a second time. The failure mileage was 19,000.
