7 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 11/05/2012

At 49,660 miles we had to have the throttle body changed because the car lunged forward and stalled out. On June 19, 2012 our 2007 Ford Freestyle was serviced with a transmission flush and fluid change, and a multi-point inspection. Everything looked good. On Nov. 5, 2012 it would rev up when driving and would not accelerate. After researching, we found out that the cvt transmission that was put in the 2005-2007 Ford Freestyle is a defective design that poses numerous safety concerns. Ford does not even make the transmission any more, so our only choice is to pay over $5000 for a used/rebuilt one that may have the same problems. Our car is only 5 years old. We have taken good care of it. We need a reliable vehicle and do not have the money to fix this. Please have Ford recall these faulty cvt transmissions and have more concern for safety and customer satisfaction.

8 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/25/2012

I was taking my two children to school turned to cross over railroad tracks and car stalled on the tracks. I tried to restart & everytime I took my foot of the accelerator the car stalled. Finally I was able to get the car to move with my foot on the accelerator & brake. The car continued to stall when my car came close to a stop. I had my car checked last year for lunging & Ford could not find anything, & it continues to lunge now it is stalling. I was just lucky there was not a train coming or my kids & I could have been hurt.

9 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2011

My 2007 Ford Freestyle has been having unexpected acceleration while at very low speeds in either forward or reverse. The acceleration can be stopped by the brake, but happens unexpectedly. I have previously reported this to the Ford dealership where I purchased the vehicle, however, they were unable to replicate the problem, so no action was taken. The problem has been occurring with increasing frequency over the past year. It is worse when the car has been running for a long time, or in hot weather it seems with air conditioning running. The lunging will sometimes happen repeatedly in the course of trying to park the car, then the car will sometimes stall. I have serious safety concerns while driving in parking lots as it is difficult to control the vehicle. The problem is exactly as described in NHTSA investigation pe11018.

10 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that the vehicle lunged forward abnormally before completely stalling. The contact was able to restart the vehicle but the failure recurred consistently especially when the air conditioning unit was activated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for inspection or repair. The current mileage was 93,000. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.

11 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/20/2010

On several occassions beginning on this date while driving under 10 miles per hour, the car would lung forward and then when the brakes were applied the car would stall. This "surging" problem would occur once you took your foot off of the brake after being stopped for a period of time but would happen before you pressed the acelerator. Because of the severity of the issue and after almost hitting another car while in a parking lot, we took the car to a Ford dealership. They diagnoised the problem and we had to have the throttle body replaced which was a significant cost. Since this issue is currently under investigation, we wanted to submit our experience to be considered and so that we would be notified in the case of recall.

12 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2010

Vehicle would suddenly accelerate when idling or coasting (especially when turning) into a parking spot or driveway requiring hard braking to regain control of vehicle. Vehicle would stall when it came to a stop. Ford dealer diagnosed the problem as a "defective throttle body assembly" and charged $1200 for the repair and replacement. I recently discovered that Ford acknowledges this problem is frequent with the 2007 Freestyle model year and now performs a free throttle body "cleaning" to address the issue. Ford corporation and dealer refuse to refund the $1200 they charged for the "repair. ".

13 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2010

The contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that the emissions control light and a wrench light illuminated at times. The vehicle would stall at a red light or stop sign. At times the vehicle would jerk and lunge forward. Diagnostics testing was performed on the vehicle; yet, no failures were found. The vehicle was not repaired. The current and failure mileages were approximately 70,000.

14 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2010

We purchased this vehicle new 8/18/07 from palm coast Ford. In may or June 2010 I began noticing the car lunging when backing out of parking spots or once you have backed out and then placed into drive. I also encountered an issue with the car stalling if parked on an incline. On 7. 5. 10 the vehicle was left for several days with palm coast Ford for diagnostics and they claimed nothing was wrong with the car as they could not duplicate the "issues. " as this "issue" did not seem appropriate I visited the daytona beach Ford dealership but this was not a documented visit as was the palm coast Ford visit. The daytona Ford service manager indicated it was a just the way the car was designed to prevent stalling when backing up or pulling forward. So I lived with this problem hoping that it wouldn't lunge and hit someone in a parking lot. My brother finally rode with me and said this is not correct so I took the vehicle to a non-Ford repair shop who recommended a tune-up be accomplished. This occurred oct. 25, 2011 and corrected the problem. However, now whatever they accomplished with the tune-up is now wearing off as the vehicle has begun it's lunging problem again in the past few weeks. That's when I researched and found these incident reports so I want to report my problem to help you document there is definitely something going on with this make/model car. I like my Freestyle but there's definitely an issue with the lunging situation.

15 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2010

I drive a 2007 Ford Freestyle. This summer it started to have problems lurching forward. Specifically if in areas where I was sitting, like at a light, or in a parking stall. And more frequently during really hot days. After the wrench light would come on. A few times my car stalled and I had to wait to start it again. I had it fixed, under warranty, thankfully and they said it was sensor that needed to be replaced. But, I have heard that this is becoming a common occurrence with this vehicle and because it is such a safety issue I wanted to send my complaint in as well. My vehicle has 60,046 miles on it.

16 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2010

The contact owns 2007 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled while driving. If the contact was at a stand still the vehicle surged forward and made it feel as if they were hit from behind and shut off. The failure became progressively worse over time. The vehicle was not inspected. The failure mileage was 64000 and the current mileage was 67000.

17 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2010

My vehicle has 110,000 miles on it. It has for the past 4 years jolting/launcing forward. It sounds like an airplane. It stalls when the weather is hot. Waiting patiently for a recall, feel that will be driving down the road and transmission will fall to the ground. Worst car I have every owned. I have seen many complaints on this vehicle. Have also had at on point trouble turning the steering wheel. Thinking should trade car in, but recently paid the car off.

18 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2009

When I'm parked the engine revs up or when I try to reverse it speeds up, even with my foot on the brake. The car will stall out when I'm reversing or jump and lunge when I'm driving. It's terrifying because it's sped up on it's own so quickly that I've almost had several wrecks. I won't even let anyone else drive my car because it is unsafe and a liability.

19 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/22/2009

Car surges forward when the brake is applied. And when driving in the summer the car will sometimes stall and the wrench light comes on.

20 Car Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2008

Have multiple issue with my Ford Freestyle: engine surges/lunges, then stalls at lights or driving at low speeds. After explaining this to Ford before the warranty expired they kept the vehicle for days and claim issue was not duplicated. . . When I came back to them a month later I replaced the (etc) at Ford's recommendation. They charged me for this. After about 3 years of having the vehicle, I had to replace the engine mount. The dash lights have been going out one by one. When the first one went, it happened before the warranty expired but, Ford claimed it wasn't covered and wanted to charge me over $200 to replace a . 10 cent light bulb. I told them not too and they still charged me $50. 00 for the inspection. Though the surging stopped for a year and a half after replacing the etc, the surging/lunging has returned. And since the warranty has long since expired and I am under-employed, I haven't had the money to replace this part again.
