During low speeds the vehicle surges!. Without holding the brake down hard this would have resulted in damage to my vehicle and in some cases others. This occurs sometimes at a complete stop like in line at a restaurant or even in a parking spot. This obviously only happens when the vehicle is in gear (drive). This has happened many times and usually when the vehicle is warmed up. It has also died after the surge. ## #vpic# 1 - check digit (9th position) does not calculate properly #vpic#.
Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that the vehicle was at stand still at a fast food drive thru and after turning on the ac, when the vehicle jerked forcefully forward and seized. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated she was able to restart the vehicle and drive to her destination. The contact stated she had experience this failure multiple times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired as of yet. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had not been informed of failure. The failure mileage was 115,000. Dp.
Lunging, lugging, while stationary or at low speed, forward or reverse, warning lights come on. I see this same complaint hundreds of times on this NHTSA site as well as internet searches. After reading numerous detailed issues and matching mine to specific complaints, it was determined that the issue is the throttle body. I took my vehicle to my trusted mechanic for removal and thorough cleaning. This inexpensive repair resolved the engine lunging issue. Please provide this information to Ford service departments via bulletins or whatever, so this problem can be resolved easily and quickly. The lunging is a serious problem, with the vehicle suddenly surging forward from an idling position with foot on the brake. I see that expensive, unnecessary repairs are being performed which have nothing to do with the issue. It is a throttle body that just needs to be cleaned.
Engine surges when steering wheel is turned. This happens when idling or at low speeds. Surging causes car to accelerate unless drivers foot is ready to stop it by stepping on the brake pedal. Very dangerous to any non aware drivers.
My car randomly surges. This usualy happens at low speeds when the car is at or close to idle. The car will sugre like the gass is being pressed but it is definetly not. It also surges randomly when shifted into different gears park, reverse, neutral. It is very dangerous as it is inpredictable.
Tl the contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. While driving 25 mph, the vehicle accelerated and the throttle control and transmission warning indicators illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle to the side of the road and powered off the engine. The vehicle was restarted and was able to operate normally; however, the failure recurred. In addition, the vehicle would accelerate without warning at traffic lights, stop signs, or when making turns. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or independent mechanic for diagnostic testing or repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 126,000.
I was on the parkway going about 65 mph. I stopped at a light to turn. As I pressed on the pedal the car did not accelerate normally. It was sluggish. I pulled over to let traffic pass. I turned off the car and turned it on again. The car started and I was able to drive it about a 1/4 mile before it stopped accelerating. In that 1/4 mile the car barely accelerated. I had to press the pedal far to raise the rpms a little bit. Had I continued to drive down that parkway I would have been hit by another car. I had to be towed home.
Vehicle accelerates (surges) when stopped, especially when parking or reversing.
Engine lost acceleration power while driving due to a clogged throttle body while on a highway. Google search indicates this is a common complaint with 2006 and 2007 Freestyles.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle cuts off repeatedly after almost every red light stop. I saw a lot of complaints about this matter with different Ford Freestyles and no one seems to know the cause. Mainly anytime I apply the brakes the cut shuts off and puts myself and family in life- threatening situations. Also, the vehicle idles high while my feet on on the breaks.
The contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. While driving approximately 30 mph, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to accelerate past 2 mph. The check engine warning indicator illuminated. The failure recurred three times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the throttle body failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was previously repaired under a manufacturer's recall; however, the remedy failed to prevent the failure. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000. The VIN was unavailable.
The contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. When starting the vehicle and shifting into reverse or drive at 2 mph, the vehicle would lunge forward or backwards as the brake pedal was depressed. In addition, the check engine and the wrench warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 190,000.
Car accelerates. . . Lunges. . . As I am about to park. I bought this car for my 16 year old to learn how to drive and so unhappy with it! last summer, only weeks after buying it, the car suddenly won't accelerate and the rpms go way up without acceleration. Wont go over 25 mph. Turn it off at grocery store, turn it on again and problem gone. Now this spring same thing but continual now. Busy downtown and car wont go over 25 mph. Wrench light on again! so unhappy. Googled the problem and multiple complaints of same thing. Why is Ford not held accountable?.
When I am driving my car it will start to take off without me pushing down on the gas pedal. I am having issues when trying to put the car in reverse, the car will hesitate while driving in reverse. When putting the car in drive or reverse the car will jump.
The contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. While driving at low speeds, the brake pedal was depressed and the engine revved. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle decreased in speed. In addition, the accelerator pedal was depressed but failed to respond. The vehicle was restarted and resumed normal operation. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of failure. The approximate failure mileage was 156,000.
Stopped at signal light, wrench light and engine light illuminated. When attempted to accelerate, vehicle rpm's moved erratically and vehicle would not drive above 35mph. Had vehicle towed to transmission shop and was told vehicle went into "fail safe mode" transmission is none repairable and needs to be replaced. Previously had car serviced under recall with throttle. One day prior, the car "surged/lunged" when put in reverse. Had recall done 12 months ago and just went over 12000 miles since work done.
My wife & I were visiting a friends house with my wife driving. She put the van into reverse to leave with her foot on the brake. It suddenly took off at a high rate of speed & would not stop even with both feet on the brake. We shot out the driveway at high speed & continued down the roadway until my wife lost control & crashed into a ditch; the only thing that stopped the van was hitting a large rock. This of course caused damage to the passenger side rear quarter panel. My wife suffered a small cut to her calf; I was uninjured. We were very lucky there were no other vehicles in the roadway at that time or it could have been very dangerous !! my wife is so shook up by this incident that she now refuses to drive her van.
Vehicle will not operate over 1,000 rpm. It had the throttle body cleaned on 15 Aug 2013 under customer satisfaction recall 12n03. For the original complaint, the idling spiked where in this instance the car will not accelerate above 1,000 rpm. The codes associated with this incident are: p060b; p061b; p0122; p0155; p0222; p0316; p0480; p2104; p2110; p2122; p2127; p2132; p2135.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle transmission started slipping recently. I have always taken good care of my car and my mechanic just told me that I need a new transmission. He also told me that there have been many problems with the 2007 Ford Freestyle transmissions. I cannot believe I have to replace my transmission which costs approximately $6,000. 00 to replace. I will be contacting Ford directly as well.
After starting the 2007 Ford Freestyle it idols about 1000rpms. Upon putting it into drive or reverse when you lift off the brake the car will rev up the engine to about 2000rpms and speed forward or backward. This rev of the engine last approximately 1 second and then the car returns to normal idol speed. This creates a dangerous situation in which if you do not anticipate the acceleration you could have an accident.
Driving on interstate vehicle begins to slow down unexpectedly. No acceleration. Must pull to shoulder. Turn engine off. Wait a couple of minutes. Start engine resume travel-2 minutes later same incident-vehicle slows down. Pull to shoulder. Engine has difficulty starting. End result--vehicle has to be towed to dealership. Vehicle purchased March 2013- weeks after purchase 1st incident occurred. Car facility stated it was a throttle issue. Car facility supposed to have corrected the problem. May 2013 2nd incident--took vehicle to dealership (only for an oil change)--dealership stated a recall due to throttle issues. Now 3rd incident as noted above. Dealership stated for 3rd incident it is a throttle issue.
Put car in reverse veh lunged backward almost causing a crash. This has happened several more times wrench light comes on. Received a recall notice from Ford took veh in to dealer they said the recall only is for cleaning the throttle I needed a new throttle. Cost was $850 I have an extended warranty but it did not cover this part. I feel if Ford has a recall on this item it should be replaced if needed. I am very disappointed in what has gone on with this. Have seen many complaints on this situation it is obviously a problem with this model.
First time driving in the snow today in my Freestyle and as I was coming to a stop sign. I was braking and my car accelerated all by itself and I could not stop and went through the stop sign! I had my two kids in the car with me and it scared me to death! I am just glad there was no other vehicles around at the time. My car has done this in the past and its not safe at all but driving in the snow is extremely dangerous and I am scared to drive my own vehicle it seems to be getting worse.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that when driving at any speed, the lights on the instrument panel would darken and the vehicle would lose power without warning. The vehicle would return to normal acceleration after several minutes but the air bag and service warning lights remained illuminated. The failure was experienced numerous times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who performed a diagnostic and located the failure at the left headlight, which caused water and moisture to penetrate. The left headlight was replaced however, the failure was not corrected. The failure mileage was 84,300 and the current mileage was 84,900. Kmj.
Incident 1: vehicle lunged forward during a low speed tight turn into a parking spot. Driver's right foot was on the brake, nothing was hit. Air conditioning was on. Unable to repeat. Incident 2: vehicle lunged backward while backing a small camping trailer into a driveway. Driver's right foot was on the brake, nothing was hit. Steering wheel was straight, air conditioning on. No damage. Unable to repeat.
Air conditioning does not work when driving under 35 mph or especially when at an idle. Air is not cool at all. Then when I speed up, I have air again although occasionally car will start to die and dash lights up and then it surges and is fine again when going down the highway at higher speeds. This is mostly when it is hot outside. When cool or raining, the problem is better.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle will lunge unexpectedly in idle, with foot on the brake. Sometimes the vehicle will surge and shut down. This happens more with the air conditioning on. I will shut off the a/c, then restart the vehicle and drive without a/c.
My car will lunge forward when my foot is not on the accelerator. I have to slam on the brake to stop the motion before hitting the car in front of me or a pedestrian in a parking lot. I did an internet search and found there is an open investigation on this and thought I should report it on my car. This is very scary to me and happens quite often in a drive through or when I am backing out of a parking space. I am not sure what I should do next.
I have had the throttle replaced last year around June 2011 and lately (only a year later July 2012) the throttle is accelerating on its on own once again when I'm parking my vehicle and while backing out (reverse). Why isn't this on a recall list by now???.
On and off over the month of July 2012, when I put my car in reverse to pull out of a parking spot or driveway it surges/jumps without my foot touching the gas pedal. It happens only when I try and reverse. This keeps happening and I'm afraid one day I'm going to hit someone or something as I can't control the surges. Also on July 7, 2012 the engine just cut off on me while reversing out of a parking space. I was able to start it back up again after it died. In December 2011 I had a new transmission put in. Also in June 2011 I had to replace the ac compressor.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle has a cvt transmission problem. When I arrived at the hotel, the valet parking driver almost hit the car on the front because of sudden accelerator of the transmission. I also almost hit another car after that.
Parked in parking garage. When backing up, car lurched and ran into another vehicle that was backing up. I was in reverse when the other car backed up. Foot on brake and car lurched into other car. No personal injuries than goodness. Since that time, it has lurched in both forward and reverse. I originally thought that somehow my foot hit the gas pedal and could not figure out how I was doing this. I also thought that maybe the floor mat had somehow bound the gas pedal, but, I checked and it is not the problem. Sensor replaced on car as mechanic thought that this might be causing the problem. It was fine after that for about 1,500 miles and problem has started again. The problem seems to be made worse if the temperature is over 90 outside or if the car is sitting and idling or operating at low speeds. I have been lucky that no other property damage and/or personal injuries.
As I was stopping to get gas, the car surged when I was applying brakes. It is also surging as I am driving down the road. This is happening more and more. Getting to the point where I am scared to drive the car. I have grandkids that ride in the car with me. Can't afford to get a new car.
As has been reported by others, the vehicle will accelerate unexpectedly at low speeds when in reverse and drive, while the brake is engaged or I'm just letting off the brakes. I have to mash the brakes hard and keep them engaged for several seconds until the acceleration slows to normal. The problem seems to happen more frequently when the a/c is on.
