Auto was repaired 2008 by non Ford dealer before the recall happened for problem of auto surging forward and backwards. Then Ford reimbursed the money $700. 00 of repair. Now car has 110k miles and is surging forward and backwards again . Very dangerous for me and family. I would like for Ford to repair my vehicle again. Original repair was for the car surging forward and backwards and I feel that with only 110k miles on it, I should not be experiencing this dangerous issue again!!!.
When shifting transmission into reverse, vehicle has a high acceleration and braking needs to be done very hard to control .
Unknown reason: on Dec. 28 2016 I@ 1535 I was driving on interstate #30 in arkansas. I was driving @ a speed of 70 mph when all the power went off in my car. I was unable to turn on flashers or restart car. Behind me was a 18 wheeler and on my right side was a car. I immediately began to lose speed. It just so happened that the other drivers noticed I was in trouble. Both drivers put their hazard lights on and slowed traffic enabling me to steer the car ( with no power) to the shoulder. I put the car in park turned the radio and heater off and tried to restart it. It did restart but I left the radio and heater off. I was 34. 1 mi from home. I prayed all the way home and did not drive over 60 mph. ( I could have been killed !!!). When I finally arrived at home, I put my car in park and the car turned itself off. The car keys were still in the on position! I have checked the Ford website online,NHTSA website, called the customer relationship center @ 1-866-436-7332 and riser Ford Lincoln in hot springs, ark @ 1 -888 -547 -3820 ( this is where I bought the car) trying to find recall notices. If there are some please let me know. Thank you.
I got into my car, turned the key in the ignition and it started sounding like a helicopter. This noise happens while the vehicle is in park, neutral and while reversing. I have sspoken with a transmission shop and have been told it is a known problem with the internal components of the transmission. It will cost around $6000. 00 to fix. There is still plenty of life left in my car. No body or interior or damage/issues. I still have 2 years left on my loan. If Ford knows about this issue it should have been repaired. This is dangerous and now I am not able to drive my car for fear of getting hurt or being stranded.
With the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle will lurch forward when putting in forward gear. Vehicle stalled while driving and also when making turns in residential area. Almost hit another vehicle because the power steering went out.
Started to experience engine surge problem that is apparently pretty common. Mostly occurs when accelerating from stopped position. Also check engine light came on. Checked code at napa store. P0109 indicating fuel rail pressure sensor. Local mechanic claimed it to be a fuel filter problem. Had mechanic change filter, problem resolved for very short time period. About month later same problem and engine code. Replaced fuel sensor myself. Problem returned 2 days later without engine code. From my research on this site and others found out about customer satisfaction program 12n03. Called local dealer to look into having vehicle checked. Was informed by service operator that my VIN does not qualify but they would let me pay $150. 00 dollars to check out problem. I am thinking I will exercise my free will to get rid of this vehicle for a kia or Hyundai model that I can trust.
After starting the 2007 Ford Freestyle it idols about 1000rpms. Upon putting it into drive or reverse when you lift off the brake the car will rev up the engine to about 2000rpms and speed forward or backward. This rev of the engine last approximately 1 second and then the car returns to normal idol speed. This creates a dangerous situation in which if you do not anticipate the acceleration you could have an accident.
When I have the car in park and am ready to reverse or drive forward, it seems like it wants to take off on its own before I even let go of the brake or give it gas. This can cause an accident to occur without me having an control over it. This is not safe!!.
Vehicle lurches forward or backwards at idle speed.
12/20/12- veh idles high and wants to accelererate when braking as advised by a recall and Ford dealer stacher cleaned the throttle body and reprogramed the pcm. Program code; 12n03 repair type-31 wrty claim. Customer code a99. 4/25/13---veh is shutting off while driving. Had new throttle body put on at firestone. Car cut off and stalled a few times. Firestone reinstalled old throttle body and when we took the van back to Ford dealer and they again verified concern and performed ids diagnosis, code po613b, secure map sensor hose and road tested 26 miles. Did not stall, stated it may have other issue. Invoice cost $93. 00 4/30/13----veh shut off 4 or 5 times. Satcher dealer drove van and could not duplicate problem. 4/31/13 recieved car from dealer and after duplicating problem returned car back to dealer. 5/2-3/13 - rented enterprise vehicle. Invoice cost $98+. 5/07/13 advised to come get the car after 10 days without loaner car . No paperwork given although requested. When called and asked for paperwork advised there was none. When asked of work performed they said they reprogramed pcm. 5/26/13 car stopped again several times and when taken back to the same dealer they hooked it to an onboard computer. Car driven for 5 weeks without it stopping again. 7/17/13 - dealer requires computer back and was taken off the car. Situation is dangerous because accelration is unpredictable and engine power shuts down at any time. .
I had left the vehicle idling in park while I went to check the mailbox. When I gotback I shifted into reverse and when I took my foot off the brake the vehicle lunged back almost striking a pedistrian I have complained about this before and I notice the investigation has been open since may 2011 I have also noticed there have been alot of complaints about this problem on the web. Just an fyi it seems to lunge when taking off in forward or reverse. I also noticed there is a class action suit against Ford for this problem in californa.
I was going to pull out into a 4 lane road and was easing up to see better. . . Out of nowhere the car begins to accelerating. Once I got out into the road the car just cut off and I had to quickly restart it to avoid being hit. Then I turned in to chic fil a and was in the drive thru line. It was a pretty long line so we would ease up ever few minutes. The car jumps and starts to accelerating and I stomp on the brakes. The car was accelerating so much that the force of the brakes stopping the car made my tires squeal.
Car lunges when brakes, traveling forward slowly or even when sitting still with brake applied. Also happens when changing from park to drive or reverse. Started erratically but problem is almost constant now. We have surmised from other postings this is a throttle body problem , however replacement seems to rectify issues temporarily but reappears.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle will lunge unexpectedly in idle, with foot on the brake. Sometimes the vehicle will surge and shut down. This happens more with the air conditioning on. I will shut off the a/c, then restart the vehicle and drive without a/c.
While driving in 90 degree + temperatures, we have noticed that the car lurches while reversing from a parking spot, or at a stop. Braking does stop the unexpected acceleration, however it still feels unsafe. This has happened 3-6 times, and as recently as today (7/17/12). It is not driver error - again has happened enough that we are able to analyze that the foot is not on the gas. Check engine light comes on when this occurs.
My Freestyle has started to lunge forward at times when immediately taking my foot off the brake in forward or backward motion. After making a turn today it did it too, but this time the transmission light came on. It has happened many times over the last couple of months. The weather has been very hot too. I have a new teenaged driver so this is disconcerting.
While stopped the vehicle will lunge either forward or backwards without engaging the gas pedal.
Our car has on several occasions accelerated on it's own. Mostly when it is hot out. It will accelerate either in reverse or forward without even having our foot on the gas pedal. On 6/21/2012 it almost Fordced us out into an intersection.
Low speeds forward or reverse, here in florida hot humid environment, car accelerates faster than foot pedal response.
Just bought a used 2007 Ford Freestyle and had it for 3 days, and had the already documented lunging/stalling issue.
The 2007 Freestyle which was built near the end of 2006. It was ok when first purchased as used back in 2008. But as time went on its throttle began to surge unexpectedly. Eventually it began to happen often enough for my wife and I to notice how it usually happens when the ac is on. It's particularly a problem while pulling in and out of parking spaces. Now it happens every single day beginning when the car is backed out of the garage. We have learned to keep our foot on the brake to stop the car from crashing into anything. To me the problem seems to be getting worse. But I don't drive it as often as does my wife. She says that the progression of the problem seems to have slowed down. But she says she has gotten used to compensating for it. The car also has difficulty starting occasionally. Maybe that is related to the surging throttle. But so far we have not noticed the starting problem correlating with anything in particular. The local Ford dealer says there is a recall to have the throttle body cleaned. That has been scheduled.
When you slow down to stop, vehicle sometimes lunged, or accelerates. When you back out of a parking spot, vehicle sometimes suddenly lunged or accelerates.
Im not sure if these are two completely separate issues. Starting around 2012 the vehicle would lunge forward after coming to a complete stop and especially when the air conditioner is running. Now the cvt transmission has gone completely out an we are unable to drive it.
While driving at a slow speed, my Ford Freestyle will lunge forward even while braking. I have jumped curbs because of this issue and feel that this problem should be addressed before it causes someone serious injury.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle has been surging over the past year and a half. At first it was very intermittent. Now it is almost every time I use the car. I took it into the mechanic and he said that Ford is having issues with the cvt transmission. So far there as not been a recall. He said he can't fix it because he cannot get the parts. My car with lunge forward when I turn it on. It also will surge when I go into reverse. Today when I was dropping my youngest son at school it lunged forward in the area where children around. I had a difficult time controlling the car. It now is becoming a bigger safety issue. Why is Ford not recalling this car? it is not safe! what does it take to get this taken care of? my concern is someone is going be severely injured due to this problem. Before this issue I was very happy with my Freestyle. Now I am so scared. Ford please help!.
We have owned this car for just over a year. For several months now, we have been having problems with the car surging/lunging. It happens without any notice, and you have to slam on the brakes to stop it. Initially, I only noticed the problem when pulling into a parking space. The vehicle would lunge forward. In the last couple of months it has started lunging backward and forward, regardless of how fast I was going (pulling in, backing up, or driving down the highway at a steady speed. ) once, the car lunged as I was backing up and hit another car. Minor damage. Not reported. It is starting to happen more often, and the car has also begun dying if it happens whole backing up. Turning the car off and restarting it solves that. I've had to start parking further back in spots because I don't want to hit the car in front of me. This has indirectly caused cosmetic damage (coming out of a store twice I've noticed scrapes that look like someone backed into me. ) I don't understand how this can be such a widely reported and potentially dangerous problem without a recall or even acknowledgement of the issue (if you call Ford. ) my car has lunged forward at red lights and stop signs toward oncoming traffic, as well as driveways with children nearby. It may only be a few feet, but even that can be deadly considering when the problem occurs most.
2007 Ford Freestyle throtte body failure resulting in surging and erratic speed control while driving.
If you have your a/c on and leave your car idling for just a few minutes then when you put it in reverse or drive, it surges a few feet like 4 to 5 ft unless you really hold the brake down. It really seems to be getting worse as time goes on.
I was driving my wife's 2007 Ford Freestyle, whie in reverse the car began to lunge forward when I putt it in drive. I quickly applied the brakes and the lunging quickly ceased. This happened again on 08/03/2011 this time the car shut off and the egine light came on. The dealership told me today 08/08/2011 that it is the throttle body and needs replacing. No accidents occurred from these incidents.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle has been having unexpected acceleration while at very low speeds in either forward or reverse. The acceleration can be stopped by the brake, but happens unexpectedly. I have previously reported this to the Ford dealership where I purchased the vehicle, however, they were unable to replicate the problem, so no action was taken. The problem has been occurring with increasing frequency over the past year. It is worse when the car has been running for a long time, or in hot weather it seems with air conditioning running. The lunging will sometimes happen repeatedly in the course of trying to park the car, then the car will sometimes stall. I have serious safety concerns while driving in parking lots as it is difficult to control the vehicle. The problem is exactly as described in NHTSA investigation pe11018.
Car surges when at a stop or when trying to park. Some times the surge is so strong it is hard to keep from hitting people or objects.
I purchased my 2007 ff Dec of 2010. Three months after purchase, I noticed mild acceleration sometimes without applying my foot to the pedal. It became progressively worse by mid June. So much so that I contacted drivetime where I purchased the car & they gave me some transmission shop to take it to, only be told that it was normal for that particular transmission. Well, by 2012, the uninitiated acceleration has become so bad that a few months ago my car accelerated on its own & ran slam into the back of a lady's car causing more than $2000 worth of damage. I tried to explain to police that my car accelerated abruptly without me doing anything but slightly lifting my foot from the brake (never touching the gas). He didn't give me a ticket but said it was still my fault. My kids call the car a transformer but it is the worse trying to keep it from plunging forward or backward & hitting something or someone! I have to make absolute sure no one is around when I am in shopping lots because I am afraid when the car takes off backwards from parking spaces. I usually have to slam on brakes but then the car shuts off &on comes the engine light. Something has to be done about this dangerous problem with the Ford Freestyle!!!.
2007 Ford Freestyle lunges forward when brakes are applied. It sounds as it I am reviving up the motor, even though I am not accelerating and the brake is applied. It is worse when the air conditioner is running.
My 2007 Ford Freestyle keeps lunging and my trans stopped shifting.
While at a signal completely stopped, the vehicle motor revved and excelled acted forward. This caused the engine to die and all dash lights came on. The engine light stayed on after restarting. This has happened several time almost causing several accidents. We have had our transmission replaced because of it. The amount of times it happened and torque it produced caused damage in transmission. We have had several mechanics refuse to work on this issue because they say this model is know to do this and no one knows how to fix it. I am out $7000 and a unreliable car that is unsafe to put my wife and kids in. Ford has said they would look at it and would cost me another $5000, and we're not sure if they themselves could fix it. They are not sure what the issue is, but would be willing to research if I pay for it.
