Unknown reason: on Dec. 28 2016 I@ 1535 I was driving on interstate #30 in arkansas. I was driving @ a speed of 70 mph when all the power went off in my car. I was unable to turn on flashers or restart car. Behind me was a 18 wheeler and on my right side was a car. I immediately began to lose speed. It just so happened that the other drivers noticed I was in trouble. Both drivers put their hazard lights on and slowed traffic enabling me to steer the car ( with no power) to the shoulder. I put the car in park turned the radio and heater off and tried to restart it. It did restart but I left the radio and heater off. I was 34. 1 mi from home. I prayed all the way home and did not drive over 60 mph. ( I could have been killed !!!). When I finally arrived at home, I put my car in park and the car turned itself off. The car keys were still in the on position! I have checked the Ford website online,NHTSA website, called the customer relationship center @ 1-866-436-7332 and riser Ford Lincoln in hot springs, ark @ 1 -888 -547 -3820 ( this is where I bought the car) trying to find recall notices. If there are some please let me know. Thank you.

From the 1st day I leased the vehicle from progressive auto, I could hear it raving high, steering wheel really heavy, brakes seemed strange and heavy to move. But the sales man kept telling and showing me a report that the vehicle is fine, and kept saying, its the type of engine in the vehicle (cvt) that's why it all seems strange. I kept going back to them advising them that I know something is wrong, but they kept saying they cannot find anything wrong. Finally I took it to a Ford dealership, and they advised me it was a transmission, brakes and suspension problem. And this was not even 2 months down the road. I was very upset and wanted to return the vehicle. So they decided to claim to fix the transmission by installing a used one. I had to get the other things fixed myself. Not even a year and some later, I have to replace the transmission again. Before the transmission completely died, as I was driving it started to stall to a point I almost got into a car accident with kids in the back, as the car kept jerking and I didn't know what was happening. This was the worst vehicle I have ever purchased in my life time. And the best part, is one one wants to take ownership of the problem with the vehicle that seems to be very very common. I wish the problems were easily diagnosed when first happening, and it would have saved me alot of headaches. I am usually a import vehicle individual, but I choose Ford as I heard great things about them. But now I will never buy a Ford again as it has been the worst experience I have had. I need over $3000 to fix the transmission and the vehicle is not even worth that much!.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle made a wobbling motion and the traction control warning indicator illuminated. The failure recurred multiple times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 109,000. Mf.
Only when the ac is on does the car lung/accelerate when I brake and come to a stop. It has also stalled out on me when I have come to a stop in traffic (when ac is on). Luckily it has restarted but what about next time. Please help. Its expensive to repair. I bought it used from a used car dealer, now it makes sense why they were so quick on approving me for the loan for that vehicle. I am still paying it off ($300 monthly) so paying for repairs is out of my budget for sure. Is there a recall?.
Over the last couple of years, I've noticed that the vehicle would jump a little when shifted into gear. Occasionally, the same little lurch would happen at a stoplight. Today, while stopped at idle the engine repeatedly revved over the course of about 10 seconds causing the vehicle to jump forward even with the brakes applied. Shortly after, a similar problem occurred, but not as pronounced as the previous event. After the incident, the performance of the engine seemed to have degraded and the vehicle was only able to accelerate very slowly.
When reversing out of and into various parking spaces, the vehicle lurches forward when I am not accelerating. I cannot detect a pattern but it has happened at least 6 times.
This vehicle will lurch forward, sometimes several feet when I have been stopped with my foot on the brake. If I lift my foot, the car will lurch forward before I touch the accelerator. Reapplying the brakes will stop the car, but sometimes have to turn off the engine before it will stop lurching. Last occurrence was when I was in line at carwash and was moving the car forward slowly. Each time I moved forward, it lunged. I haven't yet hit anyone or anything but this is dangerous and I know from researching that several hundred people have reported similar incidents, this is not normal, it is dangerous and should be recalled before someone is seriously injured.
The car first started when I had it on cruise control going down the highway at 70mph. I had the air conditioning on and the tach went to 4,000 rpms and the car shut off while going down the highway. The car when sitting idle will idle up and down. When put into reverse or drive the car jumps forward or backwards and you can barely stop it by pressing the brakes. Now when the car is put into reverse and your backing out of a parking space the car will lunge and then turn off.
The vehicles accelerates when brake is on. Has happened on multiple occasions and for both drivers of vehicle. The vehicle just surges forward a short distance. Don't know exact first date as it was infrequent and I thought maybe I was imagining it. Second driver of vehicle confirmed problem. Only goes forward a few inches but very scary and frequency is increasing. Will be taking to shop. See this is listed on web sites as a frequent problem with the 2007 Freestyle.
The contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled while driving on various occasions. The contact also stated that the vehicle hesitated to accelerate when the accelerator was depressed on a few occasions. In addition, the vehicle intermittently failed to respond when the brakes were applied. The failures recurred and became more severe. The failure was common when the vehicle had been idle or parked under the sun for a while. The power train and engine warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to dealer for a diagnostic test or repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 55,000 and the current mileage was 5,040.
Car will lunge if I'm starting to break or pressing very lightly applying breaks and sometimes will move several feet before I can get it to stop I have hit curbs and grage doors because of it.
While driving at a slow speed, my Ford Freestyle will lunge forward even while braking. I have jumped curbs because of this issue and feel that this problem should be addressed before it causes someone serious injury.
The contact owns a 2007 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that while having regular maintenance performed, the mechanic advised him that the rotors had become too thin and would need to be replaced. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure who did not offer any assistance other than to file a report. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 45,000.
My Ford 2007 Freestyle was positively, certainly accelerating on it's own. It was at times terrifying. It kept getting worse. It happened in different degrees of severity and length of time. It also happened in two different ways. The first way was when I was either simply driving but predominantly when I began to slow down for a red light or to park. At that very second, the car would literally jump ahead in a sudden, mortifying tremendous acceleration. I would try to restrain it by stepping on the breaks as hard as I could. The car would not respond to the breaks, the thrust was as strong or at times, stronger. Most times it kept going for a bit, but with my heart pounding in fear that I would hit another car or a pedestrian, I would find myself truly off my seat, solely on the break with all my possible strength; and the car would die. When I was at a light and the green came on, I was having to restart the car quickly to keep with traffic flow. Many times, after restarting the car and driving slowly and trying to stay away from other cars, the car would go on, but with a hiccup on and off. Then things would seem normal, but I never knew for how long. The second way in which the car self accelerated, was when I turned it on to start driving. Again the acceleration would be so sudden and I never knew how strongly. Some times I was very close to hitting the car behind me in a parking lot, or anywhere I was parked. I had to take extra, precautions to make absolutely sure, more than usual, than no persons would be even remotely in range of my car when I turned it on, because I never knew, depending on the acceleration force, how far the "jump" would be. This problem kept me in anxiety and uncertainty. I took my car twice to my regular car shop, had to take it to Ford dealer, only place to find the equipment needed. Person there knew about same problem in other Fords.
2007 Ford Freestyle surging at idle. Has happened 5 or 6 times lately. Have had two many problems with this car and can not afford to keep fixing.
The rear brakes on our 2007 Ford Freestyle, with 28,000 miles on it are shot. We have read where other are experiencing the same problem and some are being replaced as a warranty item while others, such as us, are being billed for over $300. 00. Brakes should last longer than 28,000 miles. I understand there is an issue of that nature with others that own Ford Freestyles. There is no recall as of yet. Couldn't the bad brakes cause a major accident?.
When attempting to enter a parking space, the vehicle suddenly accelerated and lurched forward necessitating a very quick change of foot position from gas pedal to brake pedal. After bringing vehicle to a complete stop and again attempting to move forward into a parking space, vehicle repeated lurching movements, and again necessitated rapid change of foot position to brake. Vehicle continues to exhibit problem, not only when moving forward, but also when vehicle is in reverse. It has been inspected several times at a certified Ford dealership, with no obvious defects detected. Online defects search lists numerous reports of similar problems with solution being to replace throttle body, a very costly repair.
I own a 2007 Ford Freestyle sel fwd with 24,000 miles. Yesterday while driving the car my husband heard a strange noise while braking. He immediately checked front and rear brakes. Front brakes and rotors look good. Rear brakes need replacing, and rotors are severely marked and grooved. I contacted our local dealership (same one we purchased the car from) and was told this is not covered under warranty even though this is happening across the board. I began reading a forum today addressing this issue and suddenly realized just how frequently this is happening. (not only with the Freestyles but also with other Ford cars. ) we drive our families around in these cars, and like mine we had no warning. My husband checks these types of things every 1 or 2 months and so far has found no scaring on the rotors. On the same day we hear an unusual noise we find that the rotors need replacing! this is a serious (and expensive) issue that needs addressing. Since Ford is not willing to publicly admit the problem or offer assistance in having it fixed, I am asking that you all look into this. I have not heard of any deaths being caused from this issue. I have heard everyone say that they've had their brakes and rotors checked within a couple of days of hearing the strange noise. However, I would hate for someone to ignore this warning and be injured. I certainly don't want anyone in my family injured due to this. Since this is a safety issue please do something to help the owners of these cars!!!!.
