I have a 2006 Fusion this problem started a year ago. First my car shakes, when driven 20mph and try to accelerate it has a hard time picking up speed it misses. So I had my spark plugs changed twice in the last year because I thought that's what was wrong. I took it to my local good year and they noticed that I've had my spark plugs changed with them twice so, the mechanic took my car apart and found that my 5th cylinder was bad and that it was burning through my coils. 2 years ago I had issues with my balls joints on my car front tires fixed it now, I am having the same problem my ball joints have clay in them how that happen I don't know. There is also a 3rd problem that I am having with my transmission. I came across this website to see if there were any recalls for my vehicle, of course it would be my luck nothing!!! I work for Toyota and they recall their vehicles all the time for any issue they have with their vehicles. I will never buy a Ford again!!!.
I own a 2006 Ford Fusion se with the 3. 0 v6 engine. At just over 55,000 miles, vehicle would come out of gear while shifting between 30-60mph, roughly 2nd-3rd, or 3rd-4th gear. Vehicle would go into a high rev and not move. After letting off gas, you have to wait 5 seconds for it to "re-engage", then sometimes in a high gear at low speeds causing vehicle to shake violently. This is a very serious and dangerous mechanical flaw with this transmission! it is the aisin transmission used in a variety of Ford, Lincoln, and Mercury vehicles. (2005-2006 Ford five hundred, 2006 Ford Fusion, 2006 Mercury zephyr, 2006 Mercury milan, 2005-2006 Mercury montego) there are 100's to 1000's of complaints on these and multiple TSB (technical service bulletins) through Ford motor company, etc. (TSB 07-26-9, TSB 08-24-1) calling it aisin transmission harsh shifting. Harsh being an easy term to describe this problem. And still no recall on this or compensation from dealer or manufacturer. If your vehicle is out of warranty, you are on your own with this $1,500 plus repair on a defective valve body according to Ford motor CO. This is a tremendous safety issue especially when needing to merge or accelerate rapidly to get onto a freeway system or overtake and pass on the highway! I guess it will take a serious injury or fatality to cause a law suit for anything to be done except a TSB! with all the documentation and complaints I have seen on these, I hope the manufacturers have a strong legal team! I will never buy a Ford, Lincoln, or Mercury again. And we wonder why americans buy foreign! it is a sad day people, but the truth hurts! our us car makers need to stand behind their products better and improve their business ethics or they will continue to fail and go bankrupt.
Transmission slips in and out of gear while driving at any speed. These are very hard gear shifts and the entire car shakes. Sometimes it won't go into any gear at all, including reverse. The car has unusually high rpm during some gear shifts. . . Particularly when shifting gets "stuck" between 4th & 5th gears. My car was stuck in the middle of an intersection because the transmission froze and wouldn't shift gears. The car cannot accelerate at a normal speed anymore which doesn't allow for normal highway driving, and is dangerous due to the fact that the transmission is slipping gears or sticking in a gear.
Transmission on vehicle is not good at all. . . There are many consumers that are having this same issue as 50,000 miles sna above. There are many complaints on the web and in forums on the 2006 Ford Fusions. The car will shake while driving and also it will switch gears on its own as well as the gear will get stuck. This is unsafe and very unsafe when on the highway. Has had the problem fixed and the vehicle had began having the same problems and much worse.
Bought the car used with approx. 45,000 miles on it from Ford dealership. Within a week I was back at the Ford dealership I bought it at. The car would not accelerate, stuck in gear, jerk violently. They gave me a loaner car to drive, another 06 Ford Fusion. They told me there was nothing wrong with the car and it was the way I drive. I told them I didn't have any problems with the loaner car or any other car I've ever driven or owned. They insisted I was wrong. Over the next month I brought the car back to the dealership and encountered the same resistance. The problem got progressively worse and dangerous to drive to the point where I would be going 60+ mph on a highway and the car went into neutral. The transmission completely failed in 2010, at that time I had it replaced, costing $3,000. May 31, 2012 - approx 65,000 miles. Similar problems again. Car would not accelerate, very hesitant, entire car shakes violently while driving. Check engine like came on. I took the car to my mechanic, he tested and determined three coils went bad. Looked in the car and discovered the coils had actually melted. With research, determined the computer system had failed. Coils and computer system need to be replaced. Approx cost (so far) - $1500. 00.
