My wife parked her 2008 Ford Fusion in our garage and as she tried to exit the vehicle the inside left driver's door handle would not open the door. She tried to open the door several times and almost panicked. She was trapped inside. Fortunately her car is equipped with a microsoft sync system and she was able to call me inside the house from the garage. I came to her and was unable to open the door from the outside because the driver's door lock did not automatically disengage when she shut the key off. She rolled down the window and I reached inside to test the inner door handle and lock. The lock was stuck and the handle just moved freely back and forth as I pulled on it. Finally, after wiggling the inner lock back and forth many times I was able to disengage the door lock. I then could open the door by using the outside drivers door handle. She got out of the vehicle and I proceeded to examine the door mechanism. I removed the cover plate and saw that the plastic actuator arm on the inner end of the door handle had broken in two and part of it had gotten caught up in the locking mechanism. So I came inside and searched on-line to buy a new replacement handle. During my search I discovered that people all across the united states are claiming that this seems to be a common problem with several different years of Ford Fusions. Fortunately for my wife she wasn't involved in a major accident and couldn't get out of the vehicle when the malfunction occurred but I believe it's just a matter of time before something tragic happens as a result of this potentially defective part. I feel that even thought the vehicle has high mileage this part should never fail. This actuator arm is just a very, very, thin piece of plastic and I suspect that all four inner door handles of the Ford Fusion are of the same design.
Passenger side door will not latch, which prevents door from closing.
Right side dashboard lifted up where the airbag is located. I took it to Ford paso robles, CA they didn't have a solution to repair other then take it to an upholstery company maybe they could glue it down. Doesn't seem very safe - the airbag could get caught on it.
Dashboard peeling back in front of passenger side airbag. Very common issue for 2006-2009 Fusions which Ford refuses to acknowledge as a safety issue or offer repair without significant cost to owner. Dashboard peels back and bubbles in front of where passenger airbag deploys and may cause interference with airbag operation. This is not an isolated incident or result of improper care by owners, the problem is too widespread. This should be a recalled item or fix.
Glue holding vinyl around passenger airbag is bad. You can see the foam padding underneath. Dealer and local body shop will not fix. Will not purchase another vehicle that does not have one piece vinyl on dashboard.
Both front interior door handles have broken.
The dashboard right by the passenger airbag is warping. The Ford dealer wants $1000 to replace it on a car that is 6 years old when it should not be warping already. I believe this is a safety concern to airbag potentially not deploying correctly.
We purchased the used car for our 16 year old daughter at the end of December 2012. Over the first year of purchase, we noticed that the dashboard started to lift up around the passenger air bag. We checked with the Ford dealership to see if there was a recall or a fix for it and they said no. He said the entire dashboard would need to be replaced because it is defective - very expensive. I was more concerned about the passenger airbag deploying, but again he said that there is no recall. July 2016 I saw some other Ford Fusion owners had complained about their dashboards as well, so I thought I should file a formal complaint too because it is such a strange defect.
I am the original purchaser of a 2008 for Fusion. The dashboard around the passenger side airbag has been peeling up and presenting possible airbag malfunction risks/aesthetics problem for around a year now. I have taken it to the dealership I purchased it at and been told it is not covered under the extended warranty I have, no action was taken to repair the defect.
I own a 2008 Ford Fusion and the door cable has broken three times. I have to let my window down to open the door from the outside. God forbid if I get trapped and cant open my door. Also my wheel bearing has gone bad and I noticed on other reviews this is a problem with Ford Fusions. Please check into these matters. As you desire to protect the consumers I wasnt to protect my family.
Purchased the car for my daughter's 16th birthday. I believe it only had 20,000 miles on it. She had if for 2 years and has always thought the car ran a little "sluggish". In April, 2013 the car began to decelerate when stepping on the gas, and would not shift properly. Brought it to the Ford dealer we purchased it from, who told us the transmission was gone and it needed to be replaced. We were even told that these particular cars "were not meant to last" and that "most people traded these cars in after only a couple of years. " we also contacted Ford motor company who refused to help us out with any portion of the defect. We installed a brand new Ford transmission for $1,400 and now, only 3 months later we are having to replace the transmission again for the same problem. Also, within a couple of months after purchasing the vehicle the door handles started to peel and my daughter and her passengers have cut themselves.
The youtube video Ford Fusion door latch problem by oldfredsshed 3:22 minutes describes the problem exacty I'm having with my inner doors latches on my 2008 Ford Fusion. The doors handles are breaking and I think this is a design flaw. I googled the problem I'm having with my door handles and many people are having this same problem. I have contacted the Ford motor company and they say this is not a recall or warranty problem. Citrus Ford wants me to pay $265 just to replace one handle and I think this should have been a recall item. This is a safety issue. In an emergency and you can't open the door and with power windows and no power this could be a matter of life and death.
The dashboard warped and the affected areas are the center dashboard and the passenger side. The airbag light is still on after getting the airbag recall fixed.
2008 Ford Fusion. Consumer writes in regards to all weather floor mat issues with accelerator pedal recall notice. The consumer stated she did not use rubber floor mats in her vehicle. However, on July 25, 2012 she experienced a frightening sudden acceleration when she shifted from park to reverse and then to drive. She noticed some unusual movement as she shifted into reverse and then to drive, there was definitely unwanted acceleration. She was in a parking lot and managed to get the vehicle stopped and turned it off. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The floor mats were not in the way of the accelerator when the incident occurred. The dealer replaced the battery, due to low voltage codes and it was explained to her, the battery was the cause of the problem.
On the passenger side of the dashboard where the passenger airbag, and the dashboard meet, the dashboard has separated from the airbag compartment resulting in a bell shaped curve rising approximately 1 1/2 inches above the airbag deployment compartment. If the airbag were to deploy, it could be affected by this amount of risen dashboard. I've also seen this in other 2008 Ford Fusions. Sent letters to Ford, and they refuse to help out.
