36 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 12/12/2016

Since purchasing my certified preowned 2010 Ford Fusion I have had 6 separate occasions where 1-2 wheel studs broke off completely from the wheel. The last incident I had 4 out of the 5 break off and had to have my car towed to the dealership. I contacted Ford concerning this issue on the third occasion of me replacing the studs. They gave me an incident # and told me to give it to the dealership when they fixed the wheel. After giving the dealership associate the number she explained that it had been denied by Ford stating there had been a recall but my wheel was not the right size. The dealership still replaced the studs for free as a courtesy to me. This last time I stopped at a stop sign then turned left onto a highway and as soon as I turned the stud broke off and I ran over it. I have also had them break off driving down the interstate and hit the side of my car. The most current incident happened yesterday 12/12/2016 with the car being towed to the dealership on 12/13/2016.

37 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 12/11/2016

One of the post on my wheel is broken.

38 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 09/19/2016

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. While the vehicle was being inspected, the contact was informed that three studs were fractured without warning. In addition, the contact heard a rattling noise. It was diagnosed that the studs needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 11v574000 (wheels). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 125,000.

39 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2016

Following the repair in accordance with a 2011 recall on the wheel lugs, the lugs continue to break off the wheels. The times I have noticed it happening I was turning at a slow speed in or out of a driveway. It seems to cause stress on the lugs when I turn the wheel. Last time it happened I heard a pop and then the next time I pulled out of a parking lot I heard it again and a lug had fallen off. This has happened at least four times since the original recall repair.

40 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2016

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. When the vehicle was taken to have the two front tires replaced, the stud on the front driver side wheel was fractured. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was previously serviced for the same failure. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 115,380.

41 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2016

I purchased the vehicle in Dec 2010. A recall notice in Jan. 2012 stated "the wheel studs on your vehicle may fracture. " when I brought the car in for that recall in April 2012, the dealership replaced one broken wheel stud but didn't indicate which wheel. In April 2013, a wheel stud on the front driver's side broke and the dealership replaced it noting the recall. In June 2016, a wheel stud on the front passenger side broke. Now Ford is claiming that the wheel studs were not recalled and refused to cover the repair costs even though the 2012 letter opens with that remark. The Ford representative acknowledged that it is rare that wheel studs break which leads me to believe that there is a manufacturing defect in the studs on my vehicle. I have not had this problem on any previous vehicles that I've owned and have not changed my manner of maintenance so I do not believe my actions are causing the studs to break. Having experienced three wheel stud failures in five years, it appears that the wheel studs were not reliably manufactured, have an increased risk of breaking under normal conditions, and pose a safety risk from possible wheel separation.

42 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2016

While driving into a moderate left curve on a narrow two lane city street there was a loss of power steering. This resulted in loss of control allowing the car to jump the curb and into a fire hydrant. No airbags deployed one minor injury to a passenger. Car was totaled. No tickets were issued. The car was under a recall 15s34for some problem with the ptcm and fuel tank and canister purge valve and was scheduled to repaired 04/27/16. Recall was first recevied on 01//2016 but the repair ok was received in 04/16. There is also a preliminary evaluation by the office of defects investigation on the loss of power steering on this yr Ford Fusion.

43 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 12/29/2015

I have a 2010 Ford Fusion se 4drv6 and was driving my vehicle down a highway and my low tire pressure light came on. Unable to pull over immediately I drove to the nearest good year which offers free tire repair when out of no where the traction stability control kicked in on my car and my service screen said "service power steering now" I maintained control of the vehicle until I got to good year where they discovered that I had no power steering.

44 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2015

I was pulling out of a parking lot when I realized I wasn't able to turn my steering wheel. I saw the alert message "power steering assist fault. " I pulled back into my parking spot, restarted my car, and was able to drive and use the steering wheel just fine. This has actually happened several times before when starting my car but I thought my car just needed to 'warm up. ' this was the first time it didn't work after waiting a few moments. I researched other complaints online and I'm seeing that this issue has happened to other Ford Fusion 2010 owners while they were driving, and many of the cases resulted in accidents. Also, issue with impaired lug nuts. Some car shops have been unable to rotate my tires because they couldn't get them off.

45 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that three of the front passenger wheel lug nuts were missing. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it discovered that the wheel studs of the entire vehicle were fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not included in the NHTSA campaign number: 11v574000(wheels). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 92,000. Jo.

46 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact while getting new tires the wheel studs fractured during the installation. The vehicle had been repaired. There was a recall for this vehicle NHTSA campaign number: 11v574000 (wheels) however, this vehicle was already repaired the consisted of them replaced the passenger studs and all the lug nuts in the vehicle. The failure had recurred on the vehicle. During the second failure the vehicle wheel studs were missing from the vehicle. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure however they denied the claim for repair. The approximate vehicle failure mileage was 64,000. Kh.

47 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 08/25/2015

This is the 6th time I have had broken wheel studs on either the drivers or passengers side front wheels. I went to the dealer and was told there is no recall for my vehicle and they have never heard of this problem. Suggested I re-torque the nuts at 500 miles, hard to do when they are gone.

48 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2015

Unusual wheel vibration on 2010 Ford Fusion continuous since summer 2015.

49 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2015

My wife was driving our 2010 Ford Fusion approximately 65 mph when she felt a vibration in the steering. Upon getting home, we found a severed wheel stud on the front drivers side wheel. Oddly enough, this is the second time this has happened to us on this vehicle. Ford issued a recall but our model Fusion was outside of the affected manufactured vehicles by one month. The first time a Ford dealer replaced the stud. The second time, another Ford dealer has replaced the stud. This is extremely dangerous!.

50 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 03/24/2015

My Fusion has now had a wheel stud on the front passenger wheel break off. Each has been roughly every 25,000 miles. The first was laying in my driveway, the second was missing when I went to the dealer for service and the third broke off during a tire rotation. In addition all studs were replaced due to a service bulletin early in the life of the car. Also lugnuts have been replaced along the way by the dealer due to bad wear. After the second time I reached out to Ford and filed a complaint but they simply forwarded it back to the dealer. The delaer has a record of all of the issues and the full replacement but has stated since Ford passed it back to them there is nothing that can be done. I feel this is an unsafe situation for my car. They should not break 3 times within 75,000 miles.

51 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 01/08/2015

Since the beginning of January 2015 ( this now being Feb 10, 2015), I have had 9 wheel studs fracture. 3 on the front right wheel, 2 on the rear right wheel ( all 10 were replaced on the right side only to have 2 more on the the right rear wheel fracture again) and 2 on the left rear wheel. I called the dealership where I purchased my car and they told me there was no recall for this and that they could not do anything for me. I then called Ford and they advised me that there was a recall and the previous owner had this taken care of and as of this point they could not do anything more for me, but to forward my complaint on through the system at Ford. I bought this car used on July 25, 2014.

52 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 12/02/2014

My car started saying power steering warning message ,and the wheel very hard to turn , I went to the dealer ship , where I purchase , he told me he couldn't do nothing , I just purchase my Fusion 2010 Ford four months ago .

53 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 11/21/2014

While driving down a highway, my low tire pressure light came on and I could tell it was very low due to my ability to steer. I pulled in a gas station and tried to fill the tire with air, but it was blown out on the inside wall and remained flat. I put the spare tire on and when I began to pull away, I realized I had no power steering. Warning lights came on in succession for low tire pressure (still?), service power steering and service advancetrac. I was about 40 miles from home and had to drive in slow lanes as steering was very difficult. I read some message boards regarding an investigation into this issue, but can't find a common solution that has worked. Some say to just turn off and restart, others are saying they spend $1500+. I am worried that I will spend the money and the problem may still exist as it sounds like many have experienced. I have cleaned the battery, disconnected it as some have said also. Still the same for now, will have to take it in.

54 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2014

I have had this car for 2 years now. I first had issues with the throttle body and my car shutting off at intersections and had that replaced within a year of buying the car. I have been having issues with the transmission slipping between 1st and 2nd gear for almost a year now. I first had seals replaced. The second time I had my cv joint boots replaced and found out they are wearing out the seals that are causing transmission leaks. The car is in the shop for the 3rd time because of the same transmission leaks and difficult shifting between 1st and 2nd gear and will most likely be getting a new transmission because the cv joints and seals have failed again within the 3 months of being replaced.

55 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2014

I had 2 wheel studs break on the car, just a few months after delivery. Ford did a recall and all wheel studs were replaced in 2011. I believe that 4 more studs have broken since that replacement. They seem to break every 6 months or so. This is a safety defect that Ford should correct (the 1st fix didn't correct the problem).

56 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 07/03/2014

The wheel stud broke on the pasanger front wheel causing the front end to vibrate. . This is the fifth time this has been repaired on this vehicle. I contacted Ford today and was told since the recall was performed on this issue there is nothing that can do at this point. .

57 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2014

Took my Fusion in for oil change and tire rotation. Technician notified me they cannot rotate tires without damaging lug nuts. Ford used sleeved lug nuts (chrome sleeve over steel lug nut) so when the lug nut corrodes underneath the sleeve either falls off (reducing the diameter of the nut so the wrench rounds off the lug nut) or it swells (increasing the diameter of the lug nut so the wrench will not properly fit onto the lug nut). This is a serious safety issue. How do you properly rotate your tires at the recommended intervals if the factory lug wrench will not fit the lug nuts? and if you had a flat in a remote area how could you change your tire and drive to safety? when I called Ford motor CO. They tell me this is not covered under any warranty or recall so they will not remedy the situation. Very disappointing that Ford would put their customers at risk and not stand behind their product for such a basic yet crucial component of the vehicle.

58 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2014

While rotating the tires, I noticed that two of the wheel studs had sheared off the front left wheel. There is a recall on this model of Fusion but my car has manufactured on 3/28/2009 and the recall only covers vehicles manufactured from 4/1/2009 through 4/30/2009. Since my failure is identical to what the recall addresses, I submit that there are some vehicles that failed to get covered by the recall and the danger of them having wheel bolt failures should be addressed by Ford and a remedy offered. I have contacted my local dealer and he is unable to offer a solution. I also contacted Ford (case #cas4265584) and they refused to take any action. Neither of those contacted could offer a solution and I am left wondering if this vehicle is safe to drive.

59 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2014

Car has heavy vibration during highway driving. Car has been in for service twice in thirty days with a four wheel alignment and tires being rebalanced, brakes have also been check. Vibration still there 1000 miles later. Looking for some answers before concrete wall is coming at me at 65 mph!.

60 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 02/26/2014

My wife was driving to a appointment and about 2 miles away from the house, the advance trac light came on then the car steering locked up and the car lost control, she was able to pull up against the side walk safe, but it scared her really bad thinking it was going to be a serious and that her and the baby she carrying would be hurt, why is their not a recall on this problem, so many people has had the same problem with the Ford Fusion it should be.

61 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2014

Tl- the contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact checked the vehicle and noticed that the tire had two missing wheel studs. The studs had been stripped. He contacted the authorized dealer and they stated he is not included in NHTSA campaign number: 11v574000 (wheels). The manufacturer was notified. There was no failure. Dyd.

62 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 11/18/2013

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that there was a failure with the lug nuts and wheel studs prematurely fracturing on the front passenger side wheel. One of the lug nuts fractured in the driveway and another lug nut was missing months later. The vehicle was taken to a tire repair shop who was servicing the wheels when the stud prematurely fractured on the same wheel. The mechanic recommended that the vehicle be taken to the dealer. The dealer provided no remedy. The manufacturer stated that a recall repair had been performed and provided no solution. The contact was unable to determine if the failure would recur. The approximate failure mileage was 36,292.

63 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 11/13/2013

I own a 2010 Ford Fusion se. Six weeks prior to November 13, 2013, the vehicle would sporadically shake or sometimes jerk! on the evening of November 13th, I was driving a short distance from home in the dark. I came to complete stop at a very busy intersection and the vehicle began to shake violently three times and then the engine stalled! I was stuck at a right turn lane with no place to pull over or to let any cars go by! in fact many drivers behind me were very impatient honking their horns and squeezing by around the corner! as I was panicking I noticed the battery and oil light on and did not noticed any other idiot lights on. I pressed on the accelerator and could not move, I noticed I could put the car in gear and luckily I was able to start the vehicle! I was able drive around the corner into the gas station, and all of a sudden the vehicle's transmission jerked and made a loud "clunk" noise while accelerating lightly, the vehicle "surged" thru the gas station, finding myself at a fast speed I had to slam on the brakes! that evening I went onto the internet and saw hundreds of complaints on the "electronic throttle body!" all of these customers had the same experience or very similar to mine! I was very scared to drive the car twenty miles to a local dealership. Fortunately the vehicle made it there without stalling. The technicians ran a test on the "electronic throttle body"and to my surprise the vehicle passed with flying colors. Also one of the technicians took the car home to see if it would happen again so the extended warranty would cover this expense with a rental car! for the safety of myself and others the "electronic throttle body" was replaced at my expense of $430. 00. I knew the problem would not disappear or go away or improve and nobody's life is worth a few hundred dollars!.

64 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2013

When travelling home from work on November 4th, 2013. Vehicle's advancetrac system failed. This made it difficult to turn car as it made the steering wheel very stiff. This caused an accident when entering a parking lot. I took the vehicle to the dealership and was notified that the vehicle just became "out of warranty" at 75,000 miles. The estimated cost of repair was $1762. 00 having the vehicle without its power steering has also affected my tires. Which needed to be constantly replaced.

65 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2013

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while the vehicle was at the dealer for a brake inspection, she was advised that the wheels lug nuts were corroded. In addition, the vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number 11v574000 (wheels). The vehicle was repaired and the lug nuts were replaced. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileage was 59,880.

66 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2013

During approximately the first year of having my 2010 Ford Fusion, 32 Ford in batavia ohio rotated tires and broke a wheel stud. They replaced it under warranty. Since then, every time I have my vehicle serviced every 5,000 miles by a Ford dealer, a wheel stud gets broken. Today, 5/19/13 while washing my car, I noticed a lug nut missing. This did not happen during a service, it must of happened during normal driving conditions. Again, another wheel stud is broke off. I have had about 5 wheel studs replaced. I am concerned about the safety of the car and if a wheel may fall off. I know there has been a recall on the wheel studs. A Ford dealer checked my vehicle regarding this recall (recall id #94246) and indicated my wheel studs were fine. Obviously not! concerned about the safety and cost of repair on my vehicle.

67 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2013

Lug nuts have been repeatedly fractured.

68 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2013

In March 2012 I had the car serviced for a recall for defective wheel studs. At the time I had discovered a broken off wheel stud on the front passenger side wheel. I had it repaired per the recall notice at perry Ford in poway , CA which was supposed to solve the problem by replacing the lug nuts. Now in January of 2013 I have another wheel stud broken off on the same wheel which had been serviced. The recall was supposed to remedy the problem on all wheels by replacing the lug nuts. It has not resolved the problem as I now have another wheel bolt completely sheared off at the wheel for no apparent reason. It seems replacing the lug nuts is not a solution and this is a very dangerous condition as I have now had two of five bolts broken off on one wheel. Clearly the wheel studs not the nuts are defective and replacing lug nuts does not resolve the problem.

69 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2012

The contact owns a 2010 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the lug nuts had become bent and out of shape. The contact changed from summer to winter tires and all of the lug nuts were found to be warped. The contact spoke to the manufacturer regarding NHTSA campaign id number: 11v574000 (wheels) and was told that the vehicle was not included in the recall campaign. The contact could not tighten the lug nuts because the lug nuts were bent, cracked and no longer fitting the lug wrench that was supplied in the vehicle by the manufacturer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was unknown and current mileage was 42,000.

70 Wheel problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2012

Lug nut recall is not an effective solution. This car had a lug shear in 2011. I had meridian Ford perform the recall service Jan. 26th of 2012. Mid Aug of 2012 I noticed another lug had sheared. No one has touched/tightened the lug nuts. The process of simply replacing lug nuts and the already sheared lugs is not effective. It is just a matter of time until all of those lugs are stressed to the point of shearing. I can not get the Ford dealer to do anything other than replace the sheared lug. I am afraid to drive this car as it is not safe and the wheels may separate at any time. I'd like to know what course of action to take next?.
