- abrupt failure of driver door mechanism. Driver now unable to exit vehicle without opening window and reaching around to open from outside. On-line research discloses this is a common problem with this model. - risk is clear, driver may need to exit vehicle quickly in an emergency. - problem is clear and has not been reproduced or confirmed by others. - problem occurred without warning to days ago.
The interior door handle on the driver's side front door has stopped working. The driver's door cannot be opened with the door can only be opened from the outside. I can only exit the vehicle by either climbing over the console to the passenger side or putting the window down and using the exterior door handle. Such a basic safety feature as a door handle should last the life of the car. In the event of an accident, it would be difficult, or impossible, to exit the vehicle quickly.
Driver side door handle malfunction. Can't open door from inside. Had to roll window down and open from outside. Saw many other complaints about this same thing.

The driver's side lock sticks while using the key fob to open. Have to enter through the passenger door and manually unlock the door using the handle and the lock at the same time. Lock mechanism will not at all automatically whether inside or using key fob. I've discovered that this is a common issue with 2011 era Ford Fusions. Was not aware when I bought the vehicle in January 2020.
Takata recall. The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact received several recall notifications for NHTSA campaign number: 19v001000 (air bags). Friendly Ford of poughkeepsie, NY was notified. However, the part was not available for the repair. The recall was issued on January 28, 2019. It took over 7 months from the day the dealer was contacted to the day it was repaired. Currently, the dealer was informed that when exiting the vehicle the drivers side door failed to unlatch from inside the vehicle. The failure caused the driver to have to electronically wind down the window to open the door from outside the vehicle. Sometimes the door would unlock using the remote keyfob, other times the key had to be used manually to unlock the driver door. I have an appointment with friendly Ford to repair the issue on 11/14/2019.
Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion hybrid. The contact stated that the front driver's door did not open from the inside. The contact wound the window down to open the door from outside. The contact called the boulevard Ford Lincoln of lewes dealer (877-863-6365, located at 18443 coastal hwy, lewes, DE 19958) and scheduled an appointment. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 68,400. Fe.
The driver's door latch broke on the inside of the door and will not open the door when the inside handle is pulled. Huge safety risk in case of an accident. I looked online and there are multiple other complaints about this item.
The driver's side door handle is broken. I had the same problem in 2016 and had it replaced at kenny ross Ford, adamsburg, PA. I have an appointment Tuesday may 7th for the same repair at the same dealer. To open the door, I can either reach through the open window and pull the handle or I can pull the inside handle along with the door lock, which opens the door. I feel that if something happens, it's very much a safety issue. I'm 69 yrs. Old but an older person or a person with limited abilities will, not might, but will have problems. This is a serious problem that needs resolved now.
Vehicle was parked, after driving. The interior, driver's side door latch mechanism failed to open the driver's side door. This was the case if the vehicle was on or off, and the case if the locks were engaged or disengaged. In the event of an accident, the driver would be unable to open the door from the inside. He or she would need to open the window and/or crawl to another door. The exterior handle does still operate the latch.
On a Monday morning a light on my dashboard came on and it said steering power service now, this cause the steering wheel to become stiff and hard to control. While I look all over under the hood to find the steering power fuel reservoir I couldn't find one. On Wednesday afternoon as I was driving a sharp corner it was difficult for me to turn the steering wheel and I lost control of the car ending up hitting the bridge in the road. The low traction as well came on when the steering power light appeared.
The vehicle was in a parking lot and I was getting ready to go into a store. It was pouring down rain. I am disabled but am able to drive a vehicle. I was ready getting ready to get out of the vehicle. As I tried to open the door handle I felt the door go loose and the door would not open. This is a huge safety issue. I have knees that were fractured and I must wear knee braces on them. I had to crawl to the other side of the vehicle in order to get out. I really hurt my arms by crawling across the vehicle. It floods a lot in houston where I live. This is another safety issue. I must be able to get out of my vehicle quickly during an emergency situation such as flooding. Ford has recalled the 2010 and 2012 Fusions for the door handles. Why haven't the 2011 Fusions been recalled? this recall needs to be done now.
When closing the drivers side door it won't latch closed. The door bumps back without closing. It takes at least two attempts to close the door. This started when leaving the vehicle and trying to close the door. It takes several attempts to properly close the door from the inside. I have not driven the vehicle since this started.
I could not open the driver side door after parking on street. From the inside. Had to climb over console to passenger door. I am 83yr. Female on walker. 93degree day. Must take to dealer to have fixed. Concerned about safety.

The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 65,000. Ap.
The drivers side door handle is inoperative. Moves but does not unlatch the door. Operator must lover the window, and reach outside to unlatch and open the door. This is a safety issue. Going to dealer tomorrow, 27 Jul 2018. There have been no accidents. The vek hicle is in excellent condition. 100k miles. 2011 Fusion.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the failure was not under the bumper-to-bumper warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000. Ad.
Malfunctioning door latches 2011 Ford Fusion -- my door handle won't work and I have discovered that the same part is recalled on other models but not on the 2011. This is a safety issue as I have to crawl out my passenger side door. It's sad that Ford has recalled other year models of the Fusion; however, the 2011 is not in the recall. This needs to be recalled because this is a major safety issue!!!! I sure hope I never get a bind or situation where I need to get out of the car very quickly (car won't start & on fire, etc. ) because I will not be able to get out of the car fast enough to be safe because I will not be able to roll down my driver's side window to get out of it. Ford needs to recall this safety issue a. S. A. P!!!! I've attached copies of a previous recall that Ford released for the same exact thing (malfunctioning door latch) on the 2013-2014 Ford Fusion; however, this should include the 2011 Ford Fusion as well!!!! I've also attached a copy of the same exact complaints of other owners of Ford Fusion's having the same exact problem as my car!!!! this is a major safety issue as I've previously stated above!!!!.
Drivers door handle failed to open door at destination. 1st failure it partially opened latch, then after did not unlatch at all. No abnormal feel prior to not working. Dropped window and opened using exterior handle. Looking into the symptom on the web I was surprised to find recall(s) for similar/identical issue on other earlier and later year Fusions! part number for interior handle for all years appears to be the same. Seems recall would be applicable to failing part rather than year specific seeing as how it was deemed a safety issue? I suspect similar torsion failure between latch handle and lock handle within 6e5z-5422601-a assembly. Will know for sure once replacing/replaced.
Driver's door inside latch sudden failure - unable to open door from inside. Car was parked. The doors will continue to lock and unlock and the door can be opened with the outside handle.
The vehicle has started making very loud creaking noises when going over a bump or when turning the steering wheel, typically heard more when at lower speeds. The dealer indicated it's the lower control arm is safe for now; however, was recalled on the 2013-2014 Fusions. In addition, my door handle/latch also stopped working today while stationary. The door is not latching properly. This recall also affected the 2013-2014 Fusions, but not the 2011.
Failure right front inside door handle. Drivers door handle on inside has stopped working. I must roll down window and use outside door handle to open door. This occurred 02/06/17 when I stopped car, turned off the ignition and tried to exit the car. Door handle has not worked since then. When car was less than 1 year old the right front passenger door handles inside & outside failed intermittently. Dealer "could not find" the problem. This went on for several weeks until finally the passenger door could not be opened from inside or outside. Car was taken to dealer and repaired under warranty.
Vehicle shut down several times while traveling at low speed on a city street. Also, the door on the driver's side will not open from the inside of the vehicle.
Front flew open while driving (on a 4 lane city street, about 30 mph, turning slightly to the left), passenger would have been thrown out if not seatbelt retained her. Repeated slamming door shut to get home closed the door, but now the door wont open from the inside nor outside. This is a real personal hazard if attempting to exit in an emergency. Contacted the local dealer, he tells me Ford Fusion was recalled because of door problems but not my VIN number, the same answer from Ford motor CO.
Front passenger door will not open from either inside or outside. No external damage, it just one day wouldn't budge from either side.
While attempting to open driver door to exit the vehicle, door latch mechanism inside of door broke causing latch to become inoperable thus causing me to roll down the window and exit the vehicle from the exterior door handle. The vehicle was stationary, in park, in my home driveway. Unless I roll the window down and open the door using the rear latch, I cannot exit the vehicle. In a crash situation, or a situation in which the window is iced up and cannot lower, exiting the vehicle could be impossible and dangerous. When I reported it to my local service tech, he stated that it was a common issue.
I parked my vehicle and went to open my doors and the driver and passenger sides doers would not open from the inside. I had to proceed to unlock the door manually and roll the window down, place my arm out the window to open the door from the outside. The passenger had to do the same for their door as well. We are both senior citizens with disabilities. Are there any recalls on this issue? I'm concerned for the safety and well being of me and any passengers that happen to be in the vehicle in the case of an accident where as I have to exit the vehicle in an emergency.
I am having the same problem with my 2011 Fusion as the recall for the 13's and 14's door latch recall. This just started today 8/16/2016, if you try to close the passenger door normal it bounces back at you and will not latch. If you close it very gently it latches but doesn't seem to be very solid. This happened as my wife was picking up our child from school. When she went to close the door it just bounced right back open at her. Pictures would not do much good in this case as they would be of a door either open or closed but I am going to take a video of what it is doing if you would be interested in viewing it.
On 16 July 2016. The 2011 Ford Fusion was in park and the ignition was off. When the driver of the vehicle attempted to open the driver's side door to exit the vehicle, the mechanism for the interior door handle broke, making it impossible to exit the vehicle directly from the inside on the driver's side. The outside door handle was still functional, such that the window could be rolled down with auxiliary power or the engine running and the door opened from the outside through the window using the outside door handle. This then required rolling up the window and turning off the power/engine to fully exit the vehicle. Alternatively, a passenger exiting the vehicle prior to the driver could also open the door from the outside to allow the driver to exit; however, all doors should be operable from the inside of the vehicle without power or assistance in order to allow exit from the vehicle in an emergency situation. Part #6e5z*5422601*a (driver interior door handle) was replaced on 18 July 2016.
I parked the vehicle at the grocery store, yesterday (7-10-2016) and could not open my door to get out. The door handle on the driver¿s door stopped operating. It does not allow me to exit the vehicle without rolling down the window and opening the door from the outside. This is a safety issue in case of fire or the need to quickly exit the vehicle. I had a door handle issue with my previous car, 2009 Ford focus, only you could not get into the car using the outside driver's side handle. I also looked at the number of other Ford Fusion customers who have the same issue and it seems to be a standard door issue. How many complaints does a vehicle have to have before a recall is created?.
Driver door will not open from the inside this is highly unsafe and should be taken seriously Ford has been made aware of this from many people and has recalled other years of this model for the same thing. I shouldn't have to reach outside my window to open the driver door.
Drivers side door inside handle broke and door would not open. The vehicle was parked at the time in my driveway. This is a safety issue because being able to egress from an auto when in an emergency situation is imperative.
2011 Ford Fusion. The power steering service warning light was illuminated, the vehicle was taken to 2 Ford dealerships for service. Both dealership repaired and cleared the codes, but its still a problem. Its been a problem for 6 months. They want to charge me 3000. 00 to replace the whole steering system. Another issue I have is the driver door will not open from the inside. I have to put the window down to open the door from the outside. This move is unsafe. Ford should be aware of this.
Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the driver door was unable to correspond and the contact was not able to exit the vehicle. The contact mention to open the door the window had to be used to open the door from the exterior of the vehicle. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or diagnosed. The vehicle wa not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 62,000. Ak.
I went to exit the vehicle after parking the car and the door handle did not operate. In order to exit car, I must keep the car running while I unlock the car, roll down the window, open it from the outside, and leave the door ajar while rolling up the window. At this point I can finally turn the car off.
