1 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 11/12/2016

While driving 70 mph on the highway the car suddenly shuddered. The yellow wrench light came on and the gas pedal would not work. Forced to coast to the shoulder. Shut car off waited 30 seconds and tried to restart. Car started and wrench light went out. Was able to drive. Has happened repeatedly. I called Ford and there is a customer satisfaction program 13n03. To address this but said they could only correct if the computer saved a code. Since this problem has thus far failed to trip my check engine light, it is not storing a code. I argued that it was unsafe for me to drive the care like this. They stated that Ford does not recommend I drive the car and stated my only options are to take to dealership for diagnosis where the only hope is that they can drive the car and maybe the intermittent problem will luckily happen. This is unacceptable. They know the issue exists and is unsafe. I have read multiple accounts of this on the internet. How many more are required to trigger a recall?.

2 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

Pulled from a red light and car started shaking vigorously. Pulled over safely into a parking light and a wrench lit up on the dash board. Took it to a near by auto parts store, clerk scanned it and said it was a throttle body malfunction.

3 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 11/04/2013

My wife was driving 65 mph on a very busy los angeles area freeway around 4:45 in the afternoon when her vehicle came to a grinding halt. The car went from 65 mph to a complete stop in about 30 yards! she said all she heard was a loud grinding sound and the screeching of the tires. Luckily, the six vehicles behind her were able to stop, avoiding a chain reaction accident. The car has been at the dealership since November 4, 2013 when the incident happened. When I spoke to the technician, he mentioned that the transmission "disintegrated" internally and the only two options we had were to rebuild the transmission part by part, or order a whole new transmission. The vehicle is not even three years old! this was not the first time this happened. On October 2, 2013, she was about to enter the same busy freeway and the vehicle came to a stand-still at the intersection. None of the gears worked. After turning the vehicle on-and-off a few times and shifting the gear stick back-and-forth, the vehicle once again was able to move. Can you please look into this issue as I am greatly concerned for the safety of my family now that this incident put my wife's life in danger? god forbid this happen again in front of a fully loaded semi or other high profile vehicle that would not be able to stop in time. Do you recall the Ford explorer rollover mishaps?.

4 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 08/21/2013

While driving the car shuddered, lost power, had no gas peddle response and ran very rough. Put car in park and shut off. Turned ignition, car turned over for 10-15 seconds as if starving for fuel. Finally caught and ran for about 2 miles, then happened again. In a span of 4 miles it did this three times. A few days later it did the same thing 3 times in a matter of about 10 miles. That time was on the highway doing 65 mph.

5 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2013

I was leaving a shopping center and had to a stop to yield to traffic. When I placed my foot on the accelerator, I noticed that the car seemed to have lost power. I could not accelerate above10 mph. I also felt the car shaking violently. The check engine and mechanic's wrench warning lights on the dashboard illuminated. I pulled to a stop at the gas station, shut off the engine and re-started the vehicle. Afterwards, the warning lights on the dashboard were no longer illuminated, and the car seemed to return to normal. A few miles down the road (on a highway where the speed limit is 50 mph), I came to a stop at a traffic light. Once the light turned green, I attempted to accelerate but found that my car had lost power once again and could hardly move. The check engine light was also illuminated again. I was stuck in the left lane of the road with no shoulder to pull onto--a very dangerous situation. I put on my hazard lights, turned the car off and on again. Then, I was able to drive the car normally a few miles to my home. However, the engine light remained illuminated. I had the car towed to a repair shop because I considered it unsafe to drive. The shop informed me that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The part was on national back-order for over a week. . Clearly, this is a common problem for Ford Fusions. Considering the safety risks, I am very surprised that there has been no recall.

6 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 06/12/2013

As I was driving down the road at 55 mph, with cruise control on, my car suddenly lost its ability to accelerate. I pushed the gas pedal and nothing would happen. As I slowed down on the side of the road the car began to shake. I turned the car off and started it back up and it ran fine for about 5 miles and did the same thing. After seeing all the complaints regarding the same thing, this car needs to be recalled!.

7 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 05/09/2013

My wife in busy traffic at rush hour felt her car begin to shake badly, then lose power, she coasted to the side of the road nearly being hit by passing traffic. At the time the wrench light came on, we brought the vehicle to Ford on may 10th, picked it up on June 10th, on June 11th the same problem. . . This car is again at Ford dealership with what is being called a throttle body issue. We were scheduled to travel over 900 miles each way at the end of this month and have chosen an alternative. We're not even sure that we'll have our vehicle back. This is a very scary situation, in researching I'm finding many complaints for this same issue and it doesn't appear close to having a solution.

8 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 04/24/2013

Driving on state highway at 55 mph. Vehicle shuddered, then lost power though engine was still running. No response when accelerator pressed. "wrench" warning light on. Pulled off the road, turned engine off. Restarted engine. Warning light off. It happened again twice yesterday and once today so far. Took it to the Ford dealer who said there was no code showing on the computer diagnostics. Mechanic drove car and was unable to reproduce problem. Instructed to return vehicle to dealership if problem persisted, which I expect it will. Dealership said they suspect a throttle body problem, but since the code didn't show on the diagnostic and the car is under and extended warranty, they cannot replace it until it does.

9 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2013

Driving on highway at 65 miles went car would lose power and couldn't accelerate and car started to shake when came to a stop, cut car off, waited a min, cut car on, took a couple extra cranks before turning over, and car worked fine this had happened 3 times and is very random and dangerous.

10 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 01/13/2013

Vehicle began to shake, would not accelerate, wrench light came on.

11 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 12/03/2012

Driving a 2011 Ford Fusion sel awd 3. 0l 6-cyl traveling approx. 65mph on interstate 88, vehicle shuddered, wrench light lit and no throttle control. No power. I nearly was rear ended due to significant speed reduction. Re-cycle of the engine causes the light to go out and you can continue on your drive. An identical event (set of symptoms) happened in traffic two weeks earlier at approx 20mph after leaving a stop light. I experienced a loss of all power in traffic causing my car to nearly be struck. When recycling the engine, the code that causes the wrench light to come on is re-set and Ford is unable to detect the error and refuses to correct the problem. There is significant evidence on the internet that these symptoms are pointing to a failure in the throttle body (electronic throttle control). I feel that this is a safety issue that needs to be addressed immediately by Ford who needs to diagnose by symptom as well as by code. Their software does not preserve a safety critical code across vehicle re-starts which is a major issue in my opinion. Ford warranty does not want to recognize the issue or replace the "throttle body" without a code being captured but their software is not designed to preserve the code (catch 22).

12 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 09/04/2012

While driving in the center lane on the southbound I-5 freeway my 2011 Ford Fusion began to feel like it was driving through mud and lost acceleration. When I attempted to compensate by accelerating the car, it resisted and continued to slow significantly. Thankfully traffic was not extremely heavy at the time and I was close to a freeway exit. I pulled to the right, avoiding oncoming traffic (barely) and coasted down the off ramp. By the time I got to the off ramp (about 10 seconds) the car had gone from 65 mph to less than 5 mph. If it wasn't for the momentum of the vehicle I would not have been able to make it and would have been at a dead stop in the middle of the freeway with oncoming traffic (and semi trucks) going between 60 and 75 mph. The engine was throbbing, the car was shaking, and I had no acceleration capability at all. I had enough momentum on the off ramp downslope to turn right and stop my vehicle at the side of the road. I called a tow truck and the car was taken to a dealership for repairs. I was told the throttle was the problem and it was replaced under warranty. Had timing not been exactly right, this problem could have caused a very serious or even deadly accident for me and for other drivers on the road. I have since learned about this ongoing issue online and wish I would have known at the time that it was a problem and known how / that I could submit a concern to the NHTSA.

13 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2012

The contact owns a 2011 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving 20 mph, the vehicle attempted to shift from second to third gear with an abnormally hard jerking motion. The contact stated that the failure recurred a few moments later and the transmission slipped. The contact moved the vehicle to the side of the road to shift into park and noticed that the vehicle was shaking and idling very hard. The contact proceeded to drive and the failure recurred. The contact had the vehicle towed to the dealer for inspection. The dealer informed the contact that the cause of the failure was unknown. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 32,033.

14 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2012

I bought my car on December, 2011. 1st problem was the dashboard turning off for no reason. The 2nd problem is life threatening. I am driving down the road and out of no where the dash board lights up, the readers go crazy, and my car will decelerate to 25mph and will not go over that speed. Every time I have had to pull over and when I do the car shakes. I turned my car off and when I turn it back on its like it never happened. No lights stay on and the car drives like a champ. It does it at random times, and random speeds. I took the car to a Ford dealership in may 2012 and they could not find a problem with it. This happened 3 times and in August I took the car in twice, the first time nothing was found, the second time they change the throttle body on it. Problem fixed right?? not even close. In November it did it again. I called the dealer but they could not see my car for a few days and didn't have any loaner vehicles. The car then began to randomly jerk at a stop lights or when I changed gears. This week the flare up happened again but this time the car jerked when I put it in drive and the engine light and wrench light both turned on. I continued to drive and right when I started going up a hill the dashboard lit up, the readers went crazy and my car started rolling backwards. I was able to break but when I pushed on the gas the car barely crept up the hill. The wrench light then turned off but the engine light stayed on. The next morning I took it to the dealer. When I took it in the engine light was on but when they checked it the engine light was off and there were no codes on the computer. I am scared of the car I am driving. I know the car has a problem and so does the dealer but they just can't figure out what the problem is. I called Ford but all they said was that they were working with the dealer. I am paying for a car I can't drive.

16 Vehicle Shudder problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2011

Driving on the highway in clermont FL. When car suddenly lost power, fortunately I was able to pull off the road, car was shaking and sputtering and the wrench light came on. Shut the car off and then restarted it, it will run sometimes fine for a few days then it will happen again, sometime two or three times in one day. I pick up my grandchildren from school and sometimes work late at night. This is a serious safety problem, what is Ford waiting for to recall this vehicle, for someone to be injured or killed?they need to fix this dangerous problem.
