general problems of the 2012 Ford Fusion - part 1

The contact owns a 2012 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that after coming to a stop, the vehicle stalled. The transmission warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was restarted, but the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who determined that the battery had failed and there was battery acid on the shifter cable and connector. The dealer replaced the battery, the shifter cable, the connector, the rear parking light bulb, and the purge valve. The dealer also completed NHTSA campaign number: 21v158000(air bags). 2012 Ford Fusion is having issues similar to the Ford focus recall, 18s32, that pertains to the canister purge valve and powertrain issue. Current Fusion has a 2. 5l motor in it. Have replaced the canister purge valve 3 times in a 2-year span and is currenting giving codes (as well as engine light being on) of another failure. Do believe it is affecting the powertrain as well, as it is jerks under workload.

When I started my vehicle to drive, a warning on my dashboard came on that said "power steering assist fault" and my steering wheel is now unable to turn in any direction.

The transmission seems to be slipping losing power and just plain failing if Ford knew about this and stil put them out for years in different cars already had a recall on the transmission can we get this one recalled cause ain’t no way anyone should have to pay 2500 + to get a transmission replaced in a car with only 80000 miles on it . . And I’m still financing the car as well this just seems ridiculous they can get away with not fixing faulty parts they decided to go ahead and put in there and release the car anyway . . This lose in power has cause me to almost wreck or get hit a few times when I go to pull out and it wants to slug out into the intersection.

It is hard for me to steer my steering wheel. It keeps saying service power steering. This is dangerous.

Pulled out of a side street taylor onto a main highway 39 beach blvd and car jolted and didn’t have much go. Seemed sluggish. Transmission mount bolt had snapped off and I could have been in a major accident because I had oncoming traffic coming at me when I merged into the street and lost power because of the incident.

Transmission issues continue to appear without warning. Car shutters at times and fails to shift properly at low speeds. When exiting the freeway and coming to a stop, car wants to surge forward, even with brakes firmly applied. I have had the wrench light come on briefly two times. Took the car into a local transmission shop and requested diagnostic scan for codes and trouble shoot. No codes were found for transmission or any other system on the car. As the car had 100k miles, shop recommended a transmission fluid change, even though Ford does not recommend this until 150k miles. Shop noted that fluid color was still red in color and no foreign debris was found in the old fluid. There is no evidence of fluid leaks either. Transmission shop recomended that I contact Ford delearship to see if they can reprogram or update transmission control module. Contacted local dealership and was told that they would charge a minimum of $242. 50 to run another diagnostic scan, but that there were no guarantees that this would solve the problem. A simple google search shows that there are many "known issues" with this Ford transmission that is in my vehicle, but Ford has not issued any recalls to remedy the problem. I feel that I am stuck between a rock and a hard place with an unreliable vehicle that Ford "knows" has transmission problems but chooses to ignore their customers.

Service advance trac and service power steering now keeps coming on . I’ve looked this problem up and seems to be a very common thing amongst Ford Fusions. Because of this , my power steering turns off and no matter how many times I reset the code , it keeps turning back on . It makes it very dangerous to drive the car especially if it turns off in the middle of a trip/drive.

Power steering gear , no had it fixed at Ford diagnostic code p07ae . Was driving on the freeway power steering went out and car jerked wheel all the way to right almost hit guardrail with 5 yr old daughter in car. Yes . Yes. No.

Power steering just locked up while driving with no warning or indicator, it still drives but it randomly locks up where I have no control over the vehicle in backing up out of our driveway I wasnt able to stop because the braking system froze up along with the steering and I hit a truck that was going down our road.

Did not put car into park and was able to turn key fully back and remove the key from the off position. Car started rolling on slight incline. No issues other than rain sensor wipers not always working, so maybe an issue in column. Have not taken to dealership or mechanic yet.

Car was impacted by previous recall related to the power steering electrical systems and power steering assist fault light. Ford needs to pay for these issues, so many people with this vehicle have had this issue and Ford is refusing to pay for it.

I called Ford at sam galloway in fort myers and I told them that I have at least 5 recalls but only one is important which is the passenger air bag. I was told that they have availability for September. I asked them, why wasn’t I informed of the recall? they couldn’t answer. I need to know where should I take my car. Thank you.

Failed power steering assist (electronic steering) and advancetrac assist. Steering wheel hard to turn, and will cause an accident. Current bulletin recall for power assist feature, only applies to Ford Fusions manufactured after August 2012. I am requesting that the current open recall for Ford Fusions be limited to all Ford Fusions from 2010-2012. Mine was manufactured in July, 2012 and is not covered under current recall. Many Fusion owners are requesting for this recall to be open for all Ford Fusions from years 2010-2012.

The mechanic drained the transmission fluid and added new transmission fluid, then sealed the driver's side front transmission. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. A recall was issued in 2015. . 15s18. . It seems my VIN number isn't included in the recall because it was manufactured in new mexico. My power steering at 70 mph goes out without any warning. The above recall is exactly what's happening with my vehicle. Now I am obligated to pay 2k to fix a manufacturing flaw. This is a huge saftey issue to be on the road and while your driving your power steering goes out. Transmission shuddering, 1st to 2nd gear shifts shake the entire vehicle, especially when cold. Abbrupt downshift. Gear searching from 5th to 6th when highway driving.

The vehicle was not repaired. Pecheles Ford located at 4010 us-264, washington, nc 27889, was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 89,100.

Started vehicle, power steering assist failure displayed on dash. Vehicle locked up and was unable to turn wheel. Happened while parked in driveway.

The steering wheel has locked up and the dashboard is reading service advancetrac soon/power steering fault. Unable to drive vehicle. Warning message appeared while car was in motion on a city street. Car locked up at a red light.

Car left in park in a parking lot. Returned to find car had rolled across aisle into another section of the parking lot. Car was found to be in park, attempted to jump, would not start. Tow truck driver noted car was in reverse when he attempted to jump the car. Car had to be towed to local mechanic, he stated transmission shifter cable needed to be replaced. Car has less than 25,000 miles on it. Car currently in shop being repaired. This defect appears to be the same one that resulted in recall #19s16 (expansion of 18v471). Recall did not include 2012 models (2013-2016 only).

My 2012 Ford Fusion is revving high and shifting weird. Not like slipping but it's revving a lot if her then it should be. Also the tachometer shudders every now and then at 1600 rpm. My father told me there's a lot of problems with the Ford Fusions transmissions and I don't feel safe with my wife and kids driving it.

Transmission revs high before shifting? it isn't slipping but it isn't driving how it should be.

On 3/14/2020, out of no where the service power steering now, and the advancetrac light came on. Yesterday 2/15/2020 out of no where the (service power steering now, and the advance trac light came on under normal driving conditions doing 55mph on a curvy road. The problem is common and very unsafe for drivers. Not to mention extremely expensive to fix. Now why is it that only some of the cars are covered in the recall when all Fords with the newly designed electronic steering are affected by the failure of this system!.

Both the power train and check engine warning lights would appear on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to both an independent mechanic and a dealer but neither could diagnose to determine the cause of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

After driving a distance, I put the car in park and the car went into reverse, but was still showing in park. I had to quickly slam on the breaks and shut the car down. However, because it was actually in reverse , the car would not start again. It had to be manually put in drive so I could get somewhere safe. Very dangerous.

I have an issue with my 2012 Ford Fusion. A couple of years ago I had my steering rack replaced as a part of the manufacturers recall. Here I am a couple of years later with a Ford Fusion with a failed steering rack that needs to be replaced according to my local Ford dealership. My car now has no power steering and the warning light for the advancetrack system honks at me every time I start the car. I think this is ridiculous to have this happen in such a short period of time, and it's clear that the main issue was never remedied because it has to do with how cramped all the parts under the hood are; there's no room for air so the steering rack basically gets cooked into oblivion. So here I am at 42 years old with a medical disability and a repair that costs $1600 while my car is worth less than that. . . And I have no recourse as the company is not taking care of it's responsibilities. While my car has 160,000 miles on it, the steering rack was replaced and has much less wear on it so it shouldn't be dying on me.

Driving on highway and msg popped up and said service powertrac and service power steering now. Steering wheel locked up and became hard to turn.

The low tire pressure light came on inside the dash as I was pulling into my driveway. So I drove about . 01mile to get air. After I put air in the tire,started the car and immediately got a warning that power steering needed servicing. Then got another warning that advance track needed servicing. All happened at the same time and the power steering was completely gone out. The dealership quoted me $1809 to fix the steering rack. The service dept said the gear inside the power steering rack has gone bad and the control arms it sits on has worn out the gear therefore needing front lower control arms costing $1213. 23.
