1 Body problem

Failure Date: 01/18/2026

I own a 2013 Ford Fusion se with a 1. 6l ecoboost engine. Prior to the incident, the vehicle displayed a “check charging system” warning and the engine overheated. After parking the vehicle and shutting it off, a fire started under the hood in the engine compartment. The fire occurred shortly after the overheating warning and while the vehicle was not running. The fire appeared to originate in the engine bay area and caused significant damage. There were no prior accidents or modifications to the vehicle.

Failure Date: 12/18/2024

Two recalls for this make year and model car had been recalled previously but not for my VIN specifically and the issues are appearing. The first is “doors may open driving” recall on your website and the second is “engine cylinder head may leaks oil” which is also on ur website. Both were recalled for this make and year of the Ford Fusion but not for my VIN so Ford is stating they cannot fix it and want to charge me even for a diagnostic.

3 Body problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2022

The trunk randomly opens. Sitting in our driveway, going down the highway which does obscure the rear view mirror. It’s happened many times and I haven’t been able to duplicate.

4 Body problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2022

The drivers side door showed it was latched there weren’t any lights saying that the drivers side door was open or any other door was opened. I was driving and turning left and all the sudden my drivers side door flew open and struck objects on the side of the road people had placed out for garbage pick up. My safety was put at risk by my drivers side door coming open while I was driving. I started to pull over but by the time I was almost stopped my drivers side door came swinging back and I had my hand out to catch it , it smacked into my left hand bending my wrist back and shoving my elbow in my arm into my side causing excruciating pain. My drivers side door has dents a scratches in it from the objects it smashed into and I have pain in my left fingers and hand and wrist and arm hurts along with the side of my abdomen from being crushed into my side. I also had my head leaning towards the door so when it came flying back at me it hit my head hard. I ended up vomiting and feeling extremely anxious and scared and dizzy I was very stunned. I had shut and closed my drivers side car door and there wasn’t any lights indicating any doors in my vehicle were still open. My 2013 Ford Fusion se had been taken in for several recalls the door actuators where amongst several I had the dealership inspect and they were supposed to have fixed them. I haven’t driven the vehicle since I plan to take it into the dealership and get it checked out. I need make a police report and am calling my auto insurance company in the morning to let them be aware of the issue as well. There weren’t any warning lamps or messages until after the driver side door came open. There is now a warning light on my dashboard. And the lights on my dashboard started flickering. It first happened March 1, 2022.

5 Body problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2022

Went to the grocery store and put the grocery's in the rear passenger area. The door failed to latch properly and had to drive home very slowly. As it was every time we turned, the door would come open.

6 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/25/2020

The hood latch on my 2013 Ford Fusion broke and would function correctly. This is a terrible design and needs to be fixed. I replaced mine and from the uploaded pictures you can see that the part will eventually have to be replaced again. The plastic bump (circled in red) that the lever grabs on to wears out over time, and when lifted, will not open the hood correctly . It's also not fair that the parts needed have to be purchased separately, cost cutting at its finest .

7 Body problem

Failure Date: 08/08/2020

Passenger car door lock latch won't close, the latch is down but it won't lock when I shut the door.

8 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

A few years ago there was a recall of Ford 2013 Fusion due to door latches failing. My local dealer told me that they performed the warranty repairs. A few months ago the right rear door on my car would not stay closed. I contacted the dealer and they said that since the repair had been made there was no warranty coverage. I dissembled the door myself and located the defective part. While researching the part I discovered NHTSA recall 20v-177. The year of my car was not listed in the recall but the part number of the defective part was. I have attached the recall information as well as a photo of the defective part from my vehicle. There are two possible scenarios. The defective part was actually never replace by the dealer, or, the part used to replace the original defective part is defective as well. Please let me know if you need additional information.

9 Body problem

Failure Date: 06/26/2020

The front passenger door latch broke door won't close county road when it happened.

10 Body problem

Failure Date: 06/17/2020

Making a right turn into my driveway and the driver side door flew open striking a fence. Now it will not shut at all. ?.

11 Body problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2020

My vehicle had the door latch recall completed in 2015. Since the recall was completed I have had to replace the front driver, front passenger, and rear passenger door latches. This is a safety concern because I feel like the replacement parts were no better than the original and Ford will not do anything. The door will not latch and causes a safety hazard by not latching closed while vehicle is in motion. Ford customer service said they are not responsible if problem happens 12 months after recall work was completed. Any repairs has to be at my expense and diagnostic has to be paid by me because it is a labor charge. So I will have to pay for diagnostic plus to repair part because over 12 months ago recall replacement was completed. Replacement parts are doing the same thing as original part was.

12 Body problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2020

The passenger side front door will not latch closed, even when locked. When the door is pushed closed, it bounces back at the closer and will not close at all. There was nothing impeding the door to close, it suddenly stopped working. The initial issue happened when the car was stationary, but will fly open when car is in motion, especially when turning. We had to actively hold it closed to drive it to the service center. This vehicle was previously serviced under the 2017 door latch recall in may 2019, and the repair didn't last a year.

13 Body problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2020

My door wont latch and comes open when driving. It is a severe safety issue and needs to be fixed and I feel that the manufacturers should be held accountable. I was driving with someone when the door came open and when we tried shutting it we noticed it opens and just wont shut no matter what you do.

14 Body problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2020

Driving and door swung open on the one express way almost killed me if I didn't have my seat belt on.

15 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/18/2019

After repairing the doors latches in March of 2016 for NHTSA recall 15v-246, the passenger front door would not latch on October 18, 2019. The vehicle was stationary at the time in a parking lot. This is the exact same problem that initiated the recall obviously the replaced part during the recall is also defective. Took it in to the dealer to have it replaced for a cost of $347. I have an invoice from the dealer at hand. The invoice is for "replace the cable for latch and handle due to breaking and not allowing proper movement. " the part is a cable assembly and the Ford part number is ds7z 54221a00 b.

16 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2019

Tl- the contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the front passenger door latch failed and caused the front passenger door to open when the contact drove. The contact had to use a rope to be able to keep the front passenger door closed. The manufacturer was contacted and the contact was advised that vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number 17v210000 (latches/locks/lindages). The vehicle was not taken to dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 129,000. Li.

17 Body problem

Failure Date: 10/02/2019

Driver door latch, which was replaced under recall 15s16 in Feb 2016 at 57k miles, failed to latch in oct 2019 at 108k miles. Dealer verified that the broken latch they removed was one of the upgraded parts. Door latch worked fine the night before but failed in the morning when I went to close my door and the door bounced open again. Car was not in motion or even started yet when the replacement latch failed. Car is garaged, no adverse weather that day or the previous night. The replacement part lasted less time than the original working latch that was replaced as a preventative measure under recall.

18 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/30/2019

On 9/30/2019, after loading my 4 year old into a booster seat adjacent the driver's-side rear door, I closed the door and, as I pulled out of a parking space the driver's-side rear door slowly opened up. I reached back to close it again and it just bounced closed and then open again. Finding a place to park, I examined the latch, which would not catch at all when the door was closed. I had to use ropes and bungee cords to secure the door to get home and my 4 year old had to ride in the front seat since I couldn't risk him being in the back with a door that wasn't secure. Today, 10/1/2019, I contacted Ford legacy in mcdonough GA and they informed me that while there was a recall out for 2013 Fusion for latch failures, my vehicle wasn't subject to the recall and I would have to pay $250 for the repair, which is being performed now.

19 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2019

Door latch recall was performed just over a year ago. Approx 14 months. (15s16) door latches have a pawl spring tab that may break. This condition will typically prevent the door from latching. In certain situations where the door is able to be closed, the door may unlatch while driving, increasing the risk of injury. Service action dealers are to replace all four door latches. This service must be performed on all affected vehicles at no charge to the vehicle owner. However the passenger door will not shut last week. This occurred after the recall has been closed out. I immediately took the vehicle to an authorized Ford dealer which then I was quoted the parts and labor of the job. I contacted Ford relations stating this still falls under the description of 15s16 however they cannot reopen the recall once it has been closed. The recall 15s16 is pointless if the replacement part isn't going to correct the problem. My door still doesn't latch and may fly open at no warning.

20 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/23/2019

I took my car in to watson Ford in jackson, ms in 2017 to be recall serviced. They fixed everything. . Including my door latches. I had to bring it back in June 18 because the front passenger door swing open and my daughter was in the seat & could have been seriously hurt. Now, my back door passenger door latch has done the very same thing. I have attempted to talk to the Ford company, trying to get them to fix this before someone is hurt but they refuse. I was driving both times & both times my child's life was endangered. They've been rude & unhelpful. I only want to be able to drive safely without my car door flying open. This will be the 3rd problem concerning these door latches. Please help.

21 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2019

Recall of door locks, fully replaced in 2017. Was at work yesterday and the door latch failed just like initial incident. Went to close the door & it bounced back like something was stopping it from closing. As per Ford they aren't responsible.

22 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/14/2019

Vehicle was in motion in driveway when back passenger door sprung open and would not close back. Approximately 2 weeks later while driving on dirt road close to home the driver door sprung open and again would not shut (vehicle was in motion). When attempting to close the door the latch that secures the door to the car will not lock into place. Both doors have exhibited the exact failure.

23 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2019

Passenger and driver side door latches broke within a couple weeks of each other. The car was parked both times and when exiting the car and trying to close the doors, they do not latch shut and only remain open.

26 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2019

The front passenger door latch is non functional. A substantial number of 2013 Ford Fusion vehicles have been recalled for this issue. A Ford dealership will not repair the non functioning door latch, they claim my vehicle is not affected by the recall. I am now left with a non operational vehicle due to the doors inability to be secured properly.

27 Body problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2019

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that she noticed that the trunk was leaking and full of water. There was a puddle of water in the trunk and there was mold all over the inside of the trunk. The area where the spear tire was located was covered with mold and rust. The rear passenger's side seat belt was covered with mold as well as the steering wheel, the seats, the dashboard and carpet. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted nor made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.

28 Body problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2019

Was driving in town (less than 45 mph) when I turned a corner my back door came open on its own. Thankfully, my 5yr old was buckled in tight his booster because he was sitting right there. There was no ajar lights or sounds that the door may have been open while I was driving. The last time the door was closed, it latched securely and was not an issue. The door now will not latch at all, it will close but the latch will not hold it closed. There was a recall repair already done on this vehicle for the very same problem (recall # 15s16) in 2016. So this would be a reoccurring failure after the recall repair was completed. Ford will not take responsibility for the 2nd repair of the very same failure as the original recall, since it was 3 yrs after the first repair.

29 Body problem

Failure Date: 08/11/2019

Passenger side door will not latch properly. Door will not close at all.

31 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2019

Last year, our back passenger door would not latch shut. We did a simple search and found that there was a recall on some 2013 Ford Fusions for this very issue. When we took it in to the Ford dealer, they said our specific VIN number was not under recall but that it was a "broken pawl spring tab" which resides inside the car door, that was the issue. We paid for the repair. Last week, the very same thing happened to the front passenger door (different door). Both times it happened as we were getting into the car while it was still parked. I contacted Ford and they said there was nothing they could do since our specific VIN number was not under recall. This is very concerning to us because it is obviously due to the defective part and not normal wear and tear. We are also concerned that, according to Ford, even if the door does shut, it could come open again without warning. If we are driving down the interstate with our kids in the car and the door comes open without warning due to a defective part, who knows what could happen. Since this has already happened to 2 out of our 4 doors, we can only assume it will happen to the other 2 doors. Thank you for your consideration.

32 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2019

Passenger door latch let go during on ramp cornering resulting in passenger door to fly open unexpectedly. This latch was replaced by Ford during a previous recall a year ago.

Recall # 15s16 on my 2013 Ford Fusion titanium VIN # 3fa6p0k98dr116186 for door safety latch replacement. The vehicle door was secured using rope that was tied around the door frame from the front passenger door to the frame of the back passenger door. Skip ahead to 08/06/19 the earliest day coccia Ford 577 e. Main st wilkes-barre PA 18702 could look at the vehicle to determine the problem. Mileage dropped off at 66098. 34 Body problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2019

Yesterday on July 2nd, 2019 I picked my friend up from the airport. As we were driving home the door literally unlatched on the passenger side. The door wouldn't close. It was like a malfunction. I checked to be sure that nothing was in the way to prevent it from closing and there wasn't. I contacted the Ford dealership in my area and was told they have a recall on this issue on 2014 and 2015 but not on my 2013 which is ridiculous. I did research and noticed that on (March 27th, 2017) there was this same recall on the 2013. Now I'm being told that I have to pay $400 due to my warranty running out a week ago. I'm currently using my seatbelt to hold the door shut due to this being my only mode of transportation.

35 Body problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2019

Nobody was hurt thankfully and the car was not damaged.
