36 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2023

I received a "shift sys fault" error after I shifted into the reverse gear and reversed into a parking spot at my apartment complex. My car would not shift into any other gear after that. Luckily, I wasn't making a three point turn on a street or getting out of a shopping mall parking lot. This seems to be a known issue with Ford's switch cables and bushing, and a recall was already issued, but not for the model year 2019. The recall needs to be expanded to include 2019 and 2020 Ford Fusion.

37 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2023

Car gave error message of system shift fault car would not shift from park to drive and would automatically shift back into park. Issue could be a bushing or solenoid issue car has premature wear on rotors and needed to be replaced.

38 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2023

My car started running weird, it would shake when at idle. It did this for about a week before the check engine light came on. I took my car to a mechanic and they determined the head gasket was bad. I took my car to a Ford dealership for confirmation of the problem. They confirmed I had a bad head gasket. My safety is put at risk because this can cause engine failure. If my engine failed in the middle of the highway that would be extremely dangerous.

39 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2023

Recall issued 6/23 23s33- over 7 months and Ford has not corrected this serious problem, nor is there anything in the updates to lead one to believe they have an interest in doing so. I have spent hours trying to coerce this company to do something, but to no avail!! how much longer will you allow them to get away with this!!! a serious fire, or collision may result!! must someone die in order for you to take action!!.

The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was 70,945.

41 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/14/2023

I have a 2019 Ford Fusion titanium that I just recently sold to my son. I purchased the car used from a dealership in January of 2020. In October of 2021the flexplate went out and was replaced under the manufacturer warranty. The part went out again in may of 2023 and since the car had been totaled out due to a hail storm I have been told the manufacturer warranty is no longer valid. I have been able to find that there was a bad batch of replacement parts that may have found its way into several vehicles that have experienced this same problem. When Ford replaced the flexplate it was only the flexplate that was replaced. I was required to replace the flexplate, the front fluid pump assembly and the torque converter when I had to have it fixed again. I believe that if Ford has updated this recall it is due to them knowing that either the parts used in the original repair were defective and they don't know which ones it was; or, they now know that the original fix should have included the front fluid pump assembly as well as the torque converter. I believe that either way I should at least be able to ask for Ford to cover the cost of the parts under this second repair in less than two years on the same issue. The parts that I had put on now are guaranteed for two years, why is that? the labor should be at a discounted rate as well. It is my hope that you will investigate this or look at your database to see how many other customers are experiencing the same issue.

46 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/17/2022

My vehicle had a recall opened nearly a year ago. The recall is 23s33 phev battery cell degradation. I had taken my car into the dealership nearly a dozen times over the course of almost 2 years prior to the recall being announced. I was told not to charge a car that I bought for that specific purpose. Initially a solution was posted of replacing the battery which was then removed. So there very much is a remedy available, they just don't want to pay the cost to provide that remedy. I am attaching a saved image of the recall from Ford's website that under remedy specifically states what the remedy is. The longer they wait the less of these vehicles will be on the road due to accidents and such. So the longer they delay the less they have to spend to solve the issue. Meanwhile customers are not only unable to charge a vehicle that we bought for that purpose, but are driving a car Ford has admitted is dangerous. As it's a hybrid electric the battery is still being used everytime we drive the car.

47 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2022

*upon check engine light, oriellys advised of misfire on p0301- installed following day due to part shipping to store. Day after coil ignition and spark plug replacement, engine light came back on which mechanic said not to worry as long as car isnt shaking. The following day after taking kids to school, the battery died at the school. With only the check engine light on I waited 10 minutes and the car started. On my way home on the highway, the car just stalled in the middle of the highway. There was a brief alarm stating coolant temperature high turn off car. Several dealerships advised soonest availability was December. I needed my car ASAP. I had it towed to pepboys who did a full diagnostic and provided documentation saying I'd need a new engine. 78250 miles, premium gas, annual premium treatment at oil changes with royal purple, schedule a tuneup with diagnostic, new tires, wash tub monthly cleans. I treat my car better than I do my kids. I called Ford and asked about warranty info which they advised the only way to see if warranty covers it is to have a certified dealership diagnostic. After searching for days, I finally got one to do the diagnostic and said there is an issue with the coolant destroying the engine. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? *extremely dangerous with car stalled in middle of highway. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? *Ford dealership servicer and third party service shop were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? engine light was addressed promptly and coolant error message showed up once ever when the car abruptly stalled in the middle of highspeed traffic Ford refused to help after escalation attempt to have them pay for faulty product or lemon buyback.

48 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2022

I routinely take my car to get oil changes and check for any other problems. So 2 days after getting my oil changed at a dealership my car began to overheat which shouldn’t have happened because when I got my oil changed they filled the liquids to proper levels. So I added antifreeze because my reservoir was empty once cooled I opened my reservoir and antifreeze began to come back up to the proper level. After getting it home that same thing happened and haven’t moved it since. Now my car shakes and the overheating light stays on. There is no visible leak and I don’t know where the antifreeze goes. My car is only about 3 years old and I don’t believe this should be happening. I take good care of my car routine check ups and oil changes. After doing some research online I’ve seen so many people with my same car reporting the same issue. I believe this problem has been recalled in older years (2014-2016) unsure of exact years but I believe it wasn’t fixed and now has cause major stress for me because I only have one car. Please look into this because right now I’m out of a car and I don’t know what to do and I am still paying on it and can’t even drive it.

49 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2022

Last year my car started overheating for no apparent reason checked coolant reservoir and visibly seemed empty but when I removed the cap antifreeze rose fast. Added antifreeze and it stopped overheating. About 3 months ago because it overheated I had to get the head gasket replaced, timing components replaced, heads repaired, and engine flushed(antifreeze had entered engine), not to mention labor all costing roughly $3,000. Only for it to happen again and now I’m out of $3,000 because the same thing is happen only this time my car is shaking and smoking from the tail pipe badly. In the mean time my fiancé has lost his job due to us not being able to drive the car. After doing god knows how much research to find out this is an ongoing problem with this particular make of car. Because of having to pay for countless repairs and no one seeming to know what’s going on with my car I am now behind on bills and still without a car that is only 4 years old. I haven’t done any long driving to other states beside neighbors states that are about 2-3 hours away but that shouldn’t matter because it’s a new car I shouldn’t have any problems driving it wherever. I purchased this car at a lil over 30k miles my problems started at about 61k miles which is odd since the manufacturer warranty had just expired about 1k miles before that. I believed in Ford for the longest and now I am regretting ever buying one. My very first car purchase from a lot and it turns out to be the worst car I’ve ever purchased. I’m sure me typing all of this probably won’t get read or even looked into but this is an experience I wouldn’t dare want anyone else to go through so I’m sure to leave many reviews but I thought you should know. Also because of the over heating my car has cut off at times where my life could have been taken (at lights and intersections) have a good day!.

50 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2022

2019 Ford Fusion se. Car kept stalling and running hot. I took it in and there’s coolant in the cylinders, which means new engine. Haven’t had the car a year and a half. Chevy sent me to Ford, Ford wants my extended warranty to pay for it. If it does, I’ll be capped off and still have to come up with $1000!!.

51 Power Train problem

The vehicle was unable to be driven. The vehicle was diagnosed at the residence by an independent mechanic as a shifter cable failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 22v413000 (power train). The approximate failure mileage was 70,000.

53 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 05/08/2022

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Fusion. The contact stated while driving at 20-15 mph, the vehicle lunged and jerked. Several messages including the messages " abs fault", "pre-collision assist" and "park aid malfunction" were displayed. Additionally, the steering wheel became difficult to steer. The contact stated that upon veering to the side of the road, the warning messages turned off. The contact was able to continue driving. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring while driving. The vehicle was taken to the dealer on 8 different occasions. The dealer diagnosed that the failure was associated with the electrical system. The speed sensor replacement and several unknown repairs were completed. However, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed with unknown electrical failure. Additionally, the dealer diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 115,000.

54 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2022

The flywheel apparently broke and messed up the crankshaft as well as the front pump in the transmission. Which in turn caused the transmission to slip out of gear and kill while being operated on a busy interstate requiring a tow home and then to Ford service for diagnostics. With repairs totaling in excess of $8000.

55 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2022

I had my flexplate fail twice within 12500 miles of each other. First break was in December of 2021 at 52xxx miles. The flexplate can fail and have multiple cracks in it causing it to rattle and break further on each start and drive, causing the possibility of it completely breaking while driving if someone does not verify what it is. It sounds like a knock in the motor and be mistaken as that if the flexplate is not looked at. I only caught the break cause I heard a slight ticking getting louder every couple of days. And when I went to the dealership to get it looked at it broke further and started making a louder tick/clank. I have talked to a dealer worker that has has the same issue come up (cracked flexplate) with his edge with the 2. 0 motor. Along with other research I’ve done I see there are many Fusions and edges with the 2. 0 ecoboost that have the same issue. So this is a wide spread issue. Ford knows of this issue but does not take responsibility for the issue if the vehicle is no longer under warranty.

56 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2021

The contact owns a 2019 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle would shutter and misfire without warning. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer on three separate occasions and diagnosed the vehicle with a defective torque converter. The torque converter was replaced after remaining in the dealer's possession for more than 30 days. Over time, the engine misfiring returned as the vehicle would hesitate upon depression of the accelerator pedal. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer but was offered no assistance. The manufacturer was then notified of the failure and was referred to the NHTSA. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 29,000.

57 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/24/2021

The lane keep assist does not work basically , it can't detect the lines , due to the recall I can't charge my car which I paid much more than regular Ford Fusion. To be able to use the electric miles and save on gas , also the 3g modem stopped working and Ford has no fix for that , took it to different dealers and they say even if I replace the old modem with a new 4g, (paying out of my own pocket !!) most likely the app and remote connection will not work .

58 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 11/22/2021

This 2019 Ford Fusion (2. 0l ecoboost, 6f35 transmission) has had three identical flexplate/flywheel failures (gsar code 6375), each diagnosed by a different Ford-authorized dealer. Failure 1 (Nov 2021, 51k mi): lost power at highway speed on interstate. Coasted to stop, would not restart. Broken flexplate. Ford repaired under warranty, reimbursed all expenses. Failure 2 (may 2022, 59k mi): would not start, starter whined. Same diagnosis - broken flexplate. Ford repaired under warranty, reimbursed all expenses. Failure 3 (Feb 2026, 133k mi): broke down on busy road. Police responded with emergency lights until tow arrived. Same diagnosis - broken flexplate, free spinning. Ford refuses repair despite confirming customer satisfaction program 22n12 applies to this vehicle. Safety: each failure causes sudden complete loss of drivetrain function with no warning. Failure 1 was at highway speed. Failure 3 required police response on a busy thoroughfare. The manufacturer issued csp 22n12 acknowledging this defect. A manufacturer rep confirmed on 3/20/2026 that the program applies to this vehicle, then refused coverage citing mileage. The flexplate part was revised (suffix d to e) between failures, indicating the manufacturer knew the original design was defective. Three dealers, three techs, identical diagnosis each time. Vehicle is at dealer, available for inspection.

61 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2020

When placing my car in to park it doesn't actually go in to park. If you get out after it does this the car will roll. This is terrifying. It started to roll out my driveway after putting it in park. I have to put my emergency brake on so it doesn't roll. I have a video of the incident but I can not attach it.

62 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2020

I was driving out of a store and all of a sudden the vehicle had the battery engine come out and other weird verbiage ive never seen. All of a sudden my vehicle just stop , brakes became too stiff to turn back the vehicle as you are suppose to press the brake and push the start button. I wait with my 9 year old daughter on a busy street and it was over 100 degree weather. We waited mayb 10mins and the brake became someone manageable to push and the vehicle started as soon as it did start smoke started coming out from the hood drove to a near by business and had to wait over w hours for a tow truck. This is such a safety hazard as a mother you want the vehicle you drive to be as safe as possible but for a brand new vehicle only a year old to stall out the way it did is so scary because I could've been hit and you not only worry about your safety but your child's safety.

63 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2020

Car has been blowing excessive smoke from the exhaust only on start up after car has been parked for a few hours. Ford acknowledged new engine was needed however a week after my car had been waiting for the engine Ford said it didn't need an engine. Started after the first oil change at about 9000 miles car stalled immediately after I left the dealership from getting an oil change.

Her daughter sustained no major injuries, only minor soreness. A police report was filed at the scene. The vehicle was towed twice to two different independent mechanics. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The contact spoke with a dealer (jenkins & wynne Ford, Honda, & Lincoln 2655 trenton rd, clarksville, TN 37040) who informed her that there were no active recalls on the vehicle. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure and was referred to NHTSA for assistance. The failure mileage was 20,000. The VIN was not available.

65 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/20/2020

T o whom it may concern, thank you for assisting me during this process. My car I purchased new and I would like to say a few month into owning my car ive had serval incidence where my car would completely shut off while I'm a red light for awhile due to traffics. My car has an eco button where I can turn it off and on so it doesn't shut down when I come to a stop. The reason I'm so upset with this is because 2-3 times it's happened to I've had my toddler with me and in order for me to go (when the car should automatically turn on once I remove my foot from the break), I have to turn off my car and turn it back on and it's happened during traffic and bug interactions. I don't feel safe in my car and most importantly I'm scared a car will hit me from behind do to this issue with my son in the car. I've addressed this issue to Ford and when I take it in they said they can't detect the problem. They've changed the battery thinking it would help hit it didnt. I've given them the opportunity to assist me as much as they can but yet I feel like nothings been done.

66 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2020

Coming to stop at a parking lot and all of sudden the car accelerated (seem liked 90 mph) on it's own jumped the curb went up on the lawn before I could react and applied the brakes! I was probably almost stopped before the car rapidly accelerated for no reason!.

68 Power Train problem

Failure Date: 09/25/2019

Started the car whether manual or by remote start a powertrain malfunction will come on my Ford pass app. Also on the dashboard it will say shift system fault. Once I put the car in drive the service light disappears. The vehicle was in my driveway stationary. On 2 other occasions September 18 2019 and September 25 2019 the car was in my driveway stationary. I started the car manually car would not start (no engine turn over) but car start stop button would be green as if car was running. The dashboard would say full accessory mode active, transmission not in park, shift system malfunction. The car dashboard would say the car was in drive but the turn dial gear would show park. The car gear dial was also locked and would not turn. If I took off the emergency brake the car would roll backwards. Also I could not turn the car off after that. After 40- 60 min the car showed it was going to turn off in 15 min to save power. Once it turned off. The car would start and engine would turn over as if nothing happend. I also have video of both times car would not start. Website will not let me upload videos.
