1 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/24/2012

Wrench light came on and car went from 35mph to coasting. I was able to pull to the side of the road and shut the car down. Waited a few minutes car started up and I gave it some gas it went for a few minutes and then the car sputtered and all the lights came on and car stopped. Was close to Ford service center, they just called and said the throttle body has gone bad.

2 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/06/2012

This is my second complaint in as many days - about the exact same problem. This incident happened two days after the first one. Traveling on a city street approximately 15-20 mph and the car suddenly loses all acceleration and the wrench light appears. I was able to putter to the side of the road and shut the car off. When I restarted it, it ran fine. It goes to the dealer today for inspection, where I suspect I'll get the same response that most every one else gets - that the problem couldn't be re-produced. What will it take to get a recall from Ford about the defect in their design? fatal accidents?? that's a pretty high price to pay before they're forced to correct their product.

3 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/04/2012

At 11:45 pm, I was traveling west on I-64, at 68 mph, when my car quickly decelerated. Despite my applying more gas, my car continued to lose power rapidly and began shuddering. It was then that the "wrench" warning light came on. I immediately pulled over to the side of the road, turned my vehicle off and put my hazard lights on. I waited for a 5 minutes before starting the car again. The car started roughly but did not have any power and could/would not accelerate. It was at this time that both the wrench and engine warning lights came on. Again I turned off the car and waited. After another 10-15 minutes, I turned the car on again. This time it started without incident. The wrench warning light did not come back on but the engine light remained on. I kept my hazard lights on and remained in the breakdown lane while I drove approximately 5 miles to the closest exit off the interstate where I promptly parked my car.

4 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/04/2012

I own a 2010 Ford Fusion with 19000 miles. I haven't even had it a month yet. It is a certifed pre-owned vehicle. Driving home from work yesterday, I stopped in a line of traffic at a red light. The light turned green and I accelerated. During acceleration, the car jerked then lost all forward momentum and "puttered". I was able to "putter" to the side of the road out of traffic. I put it in park and noticed that the wrench light was lit up, so I pulled out the owner's manual to see what it meant. . . Powertrain. I turned the car off for about 5 minutes then restarted it with no other incidents on my way home. Thank god I wasn't in any heavier traffic or multiple lanes! from what I've been reading, some people have lost acceleration going 50+ mph in interstate/highway traffic! if this problem isn't addressed, and soon, someone will be seriously injured or worse due to a defect in Ford's design.

5 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

The interior door handle on the drivers side door (and other doors as I have read), breaks at the point of contact with the spring release. Once the handle has broken the door cannot be opened from the inside. Occupants must roll down a window and open the door from the outside, effectively trapping the occupant inside the vehicle should the windows not roll down.

6 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2011 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/26/2012

Today was the fourth time my accelerator failed to work on my car. It has happened on the highway doing 65 and at low speeds. The dealer tells me it is the throttle body and that they are familiar with the problem. They also tell me it will happen again. Ford motor refuses to fix the problem under warranty until the dealer can reproduce this intermittent problem or its computer systems confirms a problem. Neither could be done when I took the car to the dealer for repair. The internet demonstrates others with this exact same problem. I am worried that this problem will reoccur in an inopportune time causing an accident and injury. When it occurs, the accelerator stops working, but the engine is still running. A wrench light appears on the dash. I am able to coast to a stop, but must put the car in park and restart the car for the problem to temporarily resolve. Ford seems to be aware that this problem exists, but is refusing to make the warranty repair.

7 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/21/2012

I was slowing to a stop when my car shuddered and the engine seemed to die. I had a error symbol for the transmission and the engine had no more power. It was stuck in idle now even though I was just doing 35 miles per hour coming to a stop. As I finally braked to a stop the engine was surging, but when I pressed the gas pedal, nothing happened to the engine, it was as if it was just turned on and placed in drive only. I didn't know what to do, I had to get through 2 intersections on idle speed only. I finally pulled over past the intersections and turned my car completely off. I then turned it back on and it was working normally. I took it to the Ford dealership, who told me this is common after a new battery is placed in these Fusions. They noticed my recently purchased used car (purchased about a month before this) had a brand new battery in it. They told me with a new battery, the carbon builds up dramatically and damages the throttle body. So I need to buy a new throttle body and have the cars acceleration computer reprogrammed. And this might happen every time I get a new battery? please investigate this occurrence with other Ford dealerships. I have reading this same story all over the web. Why doesn't Ford do something to correct this issue?.

8 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/04/2012

I was driving my vehicle on the highway, at approximately 55-60 mph, when I suddenly lost the ability to accelerate. The car stalled, and the wrench light came on. I had to pull over and restart the car. This happened again, the next day. The car also began to shake prior to turning the car off. I have read hundreds, if not more, complaints regariding this same issue. My car is currently at a local Ford dealership, where I was advised that it sounded like the "throttle body". The Ford dealer commented that this is a common complaint among the 2010 Fusions. Again, since discovering this problem, I have read hundreds of complaints online in reference to the same issue. I have filed a complaint with Ford, as this part/defect is not covered under my powertrain warranty, even though my vehicle is only two years old, with 58,000 miles. This is a tremendous safety concern, with car losing all ability to accelerate on a busy highway.

9 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2007 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 09/04/2012

Interior door latch (driver's door) fails to open. I cannot get out of my car without rolling down the window and opening the door from the outside. Also door will not lock when car is locked. I have read several complaints on this NHTSA site and other forums with numerous other people who are experiencing the same problem with their Ford Fusion. Please investigate this issue and initiate a recall if warranted on the interior door latches of the Ford Fusion. This is indeed a safety concern - especially if someone must get out of the car quickly - also lock failure could be serious security problem.

10 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/03/2012

While stopped with foot on break - the engine began to rev and the car began to lurch forward lurch forward. I had to keep pressing harder on the brake I looked down to be sure I did not have my foot on the gas and I did not. I had to put the car in park and turn off the egnition to get the car to stop reving up and lurching forward. My wife told me she had a similar incident with the engine reving up when she had the car on cruise control but it only lasted a few moments, in that incident she was going 60. Also, we do not have the floor mats that we read about in other posts online.

11 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 06/20/2012

On take off in heavy traffic the transmission slipped and jerked hard. I was frightened and pulled over for about 20 minutes to call my dad whom is a mechanic. He stated that it was the transmission and that I should drive it home which was a hour away. I was scared that it would do it again at full speed. 2 days later as I tried to reverse out of my driveway the car revved up but didn't move then jerked into gear and I flew out the driveway very hard and jerking violently. I don't want to drive with my niece or my little 4 year old brother in case of something dangerous. I haven't experienced this ever with a vehicle. I plan to take the car in immediately! I have been driving another car for the moment. Because I have to travel alot.

12 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2011 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 06/11/2012

My sister was driving my 2011 Ford Fusion to go out of town , when getting back into town, she pulled into macdonalds, put shift in park. While sitting in car, we were taking food orders from passengers, one in front passenger side of car and one in back passenger side. We, my sister who was driving and I who own the car, got out of autombile , we went into macdonalds stood in line, when we got up to the counter to order, someone yelled " that car is rolling backwards" and the car rolled backwards into the side of a white truck, damanging the passenger side door on the truck, no damage on Ford Fusion. The car was running as to leave the air conditioner on because it was so hot out. I was in the resturant and not even near the Ford Fusion at the time of roll back. I have been driving for over 53 years and know when a car is in gear, this Ford Fusion jumped out of gear somehow, it was in gear. Even where it was parked was on a small incline. When taking the Ford Fusion to Ford dealers, I was told that it could'nt have jumped out of gear, it had to have not been in park. Now remember this car was running with the air on, didn't roll back when we were taking orders for food, and then we stood in line in the resturant befor the car rolled backwards. This was reported as an accident on my sister's insurance, how can this be , how do they know I wasn't going to drive my car the rest of the way home,we were only 1 mile from home. And besides the car didn't even roll back for aproxmontey 6 minutes. This has to be reported as so it doesn't happen to anyone else.

13 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 06/07/2012

While driving at a low speed (10-35 mph) the car quickly gains speed (the rpm does not increase) and then slows down again and it feels like the gears shift down although it doesnt seem possible. The gas pedal stops working and a wrench shows on the dash board, the car slowly decreases in speed. As I come to a stop the car jumps and lurches violently. I turn the car off, wait a few minutes and turn the car back on. The wrench goes away however after this happens 5 more time the engine light comes on. This happens intemittently. I read in the forum people describing issues similar and exactly that same as mine and it seemed as thou it was the throttle body. Could not afford the part so I waited and it went away. This stopped for roughly 5 months and then starts again (oct 2012). Now it happens at any speed. Very, very dangerous! I spoke to a mechanic at a local Ford dealership who said that he is not aware of any issues similar to mine. . . . . I find it a little hard to believe that I am the only person in my area with this problem. I suggested he look at the forum. I have 3 children and cannot believe that the powers that be at Ford have no concern for our safety, the safety of other drivers on the road, their reputation and refuse to stand behind a product that perportedly won safety awards. Very unfortunate. I hope the thousands of postings on the multitude of forums reaches someone at Ford (before someone is killed) who has a conscience and is concerned about the safety of those who still beleive in buying american. This ignored, dangerous issue and the Ford attitude of not caring will make anyone never purchase a Ford product again. I have owned 3 different models and have had issues with all 3.

14 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2006 Ford Fusion

15 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 04/17/2012

I was driving down the road and suddenly I was losing power. The car was on but stepping on the gas pedal did nothing. The check engine light and the little wrench came on. I coasted into a parking lot and put the car in park. It started to vibrate and make noise. I shut it off and tried to restart it. It seemed normal so I started to drive home. I got about 3 mile and it did it again. It has steadily done this about 2-3 times a week now. One time I was going 65-70 on the express way and had to coast off. The last time I was turning left and I had the green light I was in the middle of the intersection. My light turned red I could have been plowed into and killed. I bought this car may 2011. I have only had this car for 1 year it had 65000 miles, I have no warranty on this car and can not afford to have it fixed. This is dangerous are they waiting for deaths to do anything about it? I have instructed my family if that happens to sue Ford. Ford knows there is a problem with these cars and should fix it.

16 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 03/16/2012

Car began to lurch and unable to accelerate. Check engine and wrench light appeared. Had to pull over and manually turn off car. Turned off radio, and air conditioner, restarted car and was able to drive home. Car has had same issue several times, occurring more and more frequently. Vehicle to service on 6/19/2012, mechanic diagnosed a throttle box failure.

17 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 12/16/2011

"unknown or other" in this case would likely relate to "power train" and/or "electrical," but definitely relates to public safety. The ignition tumbler releases the key in any position--park, neutral, drive, or low--rather than in only park. Drivers of cars with manual transmissions are accustomed to setting hand brakes using gears. Prior the the date of incident above, I recall moving slightly forward on a slight slope, and I simply applied the hand break to avoid putting more strain on drive components. After a dead battery (due to lighted dash gear position indicator) and a jump start, it was days later that I realized that the key had been removed with the car in gear. The Ford dealer and Ford motor company say repair consists of replacing the shift assembly (includes sending unit which has no "output") at a cost to me of $487. 65 + tax. They claim this is not a power train issue and that my "cpo" expired less than a month earlier, this on a Ford "certified" car. Public safety is involved because a rolling car can cause havoc.

Shifts so hard it fells like engine will drop also loses power and almost caused an accident on highway.

20 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

I own a 2010 Ford Fusion which we purchased October 2010. I brought my car to my local repair/inspection provider (not the Ford dealer) to have oil change, tire rotation and inspection sticker. While my car was there it was noted that one of the wheel studs (front passenger) was snapped off and appeared to have happened awhile ago because the exposed component was rusted. It was recommended that I contact Ford dealer to see if covered under warranty and inspection could not proceed until repaired. I brought it to Ford dealer where car was purchased the next day. They stated it was not covered and would not even inspect it for defects. Stated there was no possible way it could fracture on its own and must have happened at previous repair shop when they were taking the wheels off for rotation. They stated it would cost approximately $125 to repair one stud. I declined and returned to the previous repair shop where it was repaired for half the cost. It should also be noted that my tires had never been serviced before and this defect was noted prior to the rotation.

21 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2007 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

My car stopped shifting gears on me and the warning light did not come on I took it to different mechanics and they said my transmission was going out and my car is to new for the transmission to be going out.

22 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/18/2011

I own a v6 2010 Ford Fusion and on two separate occassions, while driving on the highway at approximate speeds of 65 mph the engine has stalled without warming. At the time the engine stalls, a service light will come on and the car completely shuts down. In both instances, the car could be restarted, and the service light dissapeared upon restart. We have taken it to the dealership after both incidents, and they are unable to identify a fix as the service code is not being stored in events of engine failure (and the light is not staying on after restart). This is an extremely dangerous situation as it has happened without warning, while travelling on major highways at high speeds. I have seen entries from other owners on both the nhsta site and other blogs siting the same problem, yet Ford is unwilling to accept that this is a pervasive problem and is not working to find a solution. We have escalated from the dealership up to the corporate Ford customer service department with no success.

23 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

24 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/01/2011

On October 1, 2011, while pulling into a parking space, going less than a few miles an hour and applying the brake , the car suddenly lurched forward and accelerated on its on - jumped the curb and crashed through the window of a business.

25 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2012 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 10/01/2011

When shifting from first gear to second gear the car will very roughly go into gear, and second to third and third to fourth is not much better. From fourth to fifth and fifth to sixth is fine most of the time. I had two calibration updates performed by the Ford dealership I purchased the car from and was told to drive the car and let the update set in. After both times I noticed that the problem did not go away, instead after the last update the issue progressed. I have pleaded with the dealership to trade my car for another Fusion (same value) and they told me I had too much negative equity. Instead I was told I could get a Ford focus and how ever much I am "upside down" they would roll it over to the price of the focus. I told them that wasn't fair and that I wanted another Fusion that did not have transmission problems. I was told that planet Ford could not help me and I should get another opinion if I was unhappy. So I went to anderson Ford and had the mechanics run diagnostics on it to see if they could identify the problem. While anderson Ford was diagnosing my car I was given a rental Fusion that was so much better than my car as far as shifting. I also was speaking with Ford customer care about my issue and wendy (customer service manager) told me that if anderson Ford did not find anything wrong I was going to be stuck with that car. Anderson Ford reported that no warning codes could be found and the car was fine. I told them the difference I noticed in driving the rental Fusion and my Fusion and the service manager disregarded it. I was given my car back and was told if I was not comfortable with it I needed to trade it in and deal with the negative equity. I have spoken with several dealers about different cars and I am unable to trade my car in because I have too much negative equity. Please help me on thisissue so I can get a car that operates correctly.

26 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2011 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/23/2011

Had to have flat tire repaired. When technicians tried to place wheel on 2011 Fusion two (2) of the wheel bolts twisted and would not hold at the required torque level. Had to replace two of the five wheel bolts. Took car to Ford dealer to have all wheel bolts replaced. Their response was that they could not find anything wrong with bolts, had no technical bulletins, safety issues, recalls, etc. And would not even repay for the two bots that were deformed. The two deformed bolts were given to the Ford service department. I gave them evidence of the problem, complete description, repair shop that found the problem, ( whom I have used for over 30 years), and got the answer, if it happens again bring it back. I hope when I bring it back it is not after an accident where someone is injured. If you have questions, please contact my father, kenneth seal.

27 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2010 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 08/16/2011

Just starting off from a traffic light the car started to stall. The car was towed to montrose Ford where they determined a part in the transmission failed. The part was ordered and replaced a few days later. On the 16th of September while driving the brakes failed. The car was taken to ganley Ford on the 19th of sept. They initially determined it was a transmission problem, exactly the same problem that was repaired in August. On the 21st of sept. The maintenance people drove the car with a computer connected to analyze what was happening but found nothing wrong. Now they say the problem is hydraulic related but will need to keep the car for at least 30 days to solve the problem. At this time they have no idea what is really wrong. Inside the car is an intermittent noise. It can only be heard when just starting out or at very slow speeds. Ganley Ford has no idea where this noise is coming from.

28 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2006 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/26/2011

I bought a 2006 Ford Fusion and not even a month later the inside driver side handle cracked. I cant lock my door while driving or when I'm parked and I'm afraid it's going to make it to where I can't get out in case of an emergency!.

29 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2009 Ford Fusion

Driver inner door handle was not returning; door would not lock with remote. Broken driver door handle, same design as Ford 150 trucks, which also break.

30 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2011 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/07/2011

Letter sent oct. 2011. Customer unhappiness department Ford motor company p. O. Box 6248 dearborn mi 48126 gentlemen and/or ladies: I have owned a Ford (fusion se) for several months and every time I take it out of the garage to drive I am afraid. I am afraid because as soon as I leave the garage I have trouble seeing the red needle that should be telling me how fast I am going. In the garage, I see the speedometer needle easily. The few times I have driven at night (at age 90, I try to avoid night driving) I could see it quite well. But in any daylight the big needle tends to disappear, and on bright sunlit days I usually cannot see it at all in the fraction of a second I take my eyes off the road to look down at the dashboard. Curiously, the smaller needle on the right that tells me the temperature of the radiator fluid shows up better than the -- much more important -- large needle that should tell me the speed. The order writer at my dealer says there is nothing they can do except turn up the dial that controls brightness of the needles which have, he says, lights inside them. I had already done that. In my judgment, a white needle would show up better than the red one. Can anything be done to make my driving safer? do I need to trade for another make of car so I can feel safe when I drive? ******* their reply said, in effect, "tough luck kid; we can't afford to solve all problems. ".

31 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2011 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/05/2011

Transmission slams into third gear first time you drive it each day. Does not matter if it is morning, afternoon or night. This has been an issue from the first day I bought the car. I took it back to the dealership I bought it and was told to drive it. . . It would work it's way out. I have had it in 6 times since. . . Last time they told me there was nothing they could do until Ford came out with a new fix. Ford has already had two updates that do not work. I have filed a lemon law with Ford. . . And have the bbb information to file out as well. I was supposed to hear back today, but did not. . . I called 3x's left a message twice.

32 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2008 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 07/05/2011

Upon exiting my car there was a crack in the door handle. The door was unable to lock and unlock, and sometime very difficult to get in and out of the car, this is a safety issue. I took it to the dealer and I was informed the door cable broke. This should be investigated as a defected part. I was telling some other about it and they told me the knew other Ford owners who had the same problem with their fairly new car.

33 Unknown Or Other problem of the 2011 Ford Fusion

Failure Date: 06/28/2011

I was traveling about 35 to 40mph when the car starting acting up. Anytime I had to slow down and then speed up the rpm would not shift, when it did shift it would jerk the car forward. I also have been having an issue where I would step on the gas and it would act as if it was in neutral. This continues to happen and I fear that one of these times I will be in an accident with my kids in the car. These are all transmission issues, I have brought it in twice now first time they did the TSB which was to reset the pcm and my ac wasn't and still is not working. Resetting the pcm did not work so now back in the shop it sits. This car is only 4 months old and already has safety issues being the transmission. There needs to be a recall before there are deaths.
