Service Brakes problem #1

The contact owns a 2017 Ford fusion energi. The contact stated while depressing the brake pedal, the brake pedal failed to return to the original position; or would not respond immediately and effectively to stop the vehicle. The brake warning light was illuminated. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The vehicle was later taken to a local independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the failure experienced was related to NHTSA campaign number: 23v162000 (service brakes, hydraulic) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

Service Brakes problem #2

When I had to brake, the car did not respond to the brake even though I had pressed hard on the brake. The result was that I hit a car in front of me. Since it was not high speed traffic, my injury was trauma to my foot. The concern was that there was plenty of time to stop, not an emergency stop. I was on a surface street where speed was 35-40 miles per hour. All air bags were deployed. The car was towed and declared a total loss by my insurance company. As a result, unable to do any other investigation. I do not have.

Service Brakes problem #3

This has happened several times at freeway speeds on freeways. This issue occurs when using adaptive cruise control if the vehicle encounters a panic stop situation and determines it is unable to autonomously stop in time. When the collision warning activates and the driver uses the brakes, the adaptive cruise control disengages the autonomous braking and braking is reduced until the brake pedal travels a significant amount. This increases the stopping distance and may cause an accident. The behavior of the adaptive cruise control should be changed so that a driver applying the brakes disengages adaptive cruise control acceleration (if active) but does not disengage adaptive cruise control braking (if active). I had a 2005 Jaguar with adaptive cruise control and it did not exhibit this behavior.
