Brakes Failed problems of the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid

When backing out of a parking space and attempting to stop, brakes appeared to fail and normal pressure did not engage the brakes at all. Dashboard lights for traction control and abs illuminated. Upon further investigation, hydraulic brakes still functioned when pressed down with significant force.

Brake failure: I was driving my usual commute at 70 mph on an interstate highway. As I approached my exit ramp, I looked down at my dash console to see a red brake warning (!). There were no cars close, so I tapped my brakes to make sure they were still working. That is when I discovered that the brakes were not working at all, despite the pedal going up and down normally. No brakes going 70! I was able to gently apply the e-brake up the exit ramp and come to a stop at the intersection. At that point I was able to drive slowly off the road with my e-brake to make it to safety. This could've ended up so much worse if there had been traffic or people around. The repair shop that fixed the car replaced my entire brake pedal assembly as shown in the attached image. The shop says that the pedal was not putting out enough ohms (~4. 2), when it should have been putting out between 18-20 ohms. I have saved the brake pedal assembly for those who would like to investigate it further. Ford has not shown much interest in my situation.

While driving 20 mph in my suburban neighborhood. Brakes failed without warning. The brake pedal travel increased significantly. Stopping required me to pump the brake pedal to the floor forcefully while also applying the emergency brake. Stopping distance lengthened significantly. The dealership informed me it was an antilock braking system (abs) hydraulic control unit (hcu) failure. Cost estimate is $1,000 to replace.

Complete brake failure due to an electronic component failure. The brake pedal went all the way to the floorboard. There was no collision and the vehicle came to rest on the shoulder of the highway.

I had a complete brake failure on 12/18/2018 while driving down a city street and the pedal went completely to the floor, I pumped frantically with little or no resistance I took the car out of drive and applied the emergency brake after reviewing I found Ford knew of this problem TSB-09-22-11 I asked Ford for help as this is a $2300 abs module fix and they stick their heads in the sand .

Less than a minute after starting the car, I was braking and turning slightly left on a slight decline in a parking lot. The brake pedal suddenly went soft, brake failure alert sounded and appeared on dashboard, and pedal went all the way to the floor, never re-engaging despite pumping. Thankfully because I was traveling 10mph at most, and despite my shock and confusion, I was able to avoid a collision, and quickly park in another spot. I made a phone call and decided to try again and upon restart the brakes had no problems and I was able to drive home, with my one hand ready to use the emergency brake. Given the conditions this failure occurred, I suspect the problem is with the hydraulic control unit.

Driver was approaching a stoplight on a residential street with a 35 mph speed limit. The light turned yellow then red and driver applied brakes to stop at the light. The brakes completely failed and driver proceeded through the red light intersection. Driver slowed enough a block later and pulled into the open grass field next to the post office before finally coming to a gradual stop. Two warning lights appeared on the dashboard at the time of failure. After turning the power off then back on again the brakes worked perfectly normal again and the warning lights did not come back on. The car was taken to the local Ford dealership and they drove the car and checked it for quite some time, however, they found nothing wrong with it. They did notice that some error codes had indeed tripped in the past, but again, couldn't find any problems at all with the brake system ($120 later).

When driving - intermittently warnings stating brake system failure then loses all brake function forcing use of emergency brake- has happened roughly 6 times dropped vehicle off at Ford they have had it for 5 days and still have no idea how to repair it.

Our Ford Fusion Hybrid experienced a total brake failure as I was driving out of our canyon. I had just stopped to let a couple of cars pass on the narrow road and as I proceeded into a 90 degree downhill turn, the brakes failed, causing a crash. There was no braking whatsoever. I had only 2 or 3 seconds before the turn and managed to avoid going off of a cliff only narrowly, by running up a earthen bank and over a large boulder, which stopped the car. The consumer reports test driver had the same experience when test driving the car in 2010.

After switching the gear shift from the park position, I immediately noticed my brakes failed and my vehicle began rolling forward. The vehicle stopped after placing a substantial amoount of pressure on the brakes. After turning the vehicle on and off the two symptoms went away. Later that day the same issue happened for the second time while my vehicle was stationary. The third time that this issue occured I was driving on a highway and almost went into opposing traffic. The service light turns off after restarting the car but returns later that day.

Our 2010 Ford fusion recently lost its electronic brakes during rush hour traffic. Luckily, it was stopped at the time. It is no longer under warranty, but we know there have been issues with the electronic brakes on this car (customer satisfaction program 10b13 stated on cr website, see consumer reports news: Feb 4, 2010 4:07pm. ) columbia Ford said they upgraded the computer back in sept of 2010. When we originally purchased this car, the electronic brakes had failed 3 times in the first few months of owning it. This is now the 4th time the brakes have been lost on the car. Today columbia Ford stated they will do a diagnoses for $120. 00, but they may not even be able to recreate the issue but will still charge us. When we originally had the problem with the brakes in 2010 they said there was nothing wrong with the car because they couldn't duplicate it. Eventually, we were proven correct when someone from Ford headquarters got involved and discovered the problem. We would like Ford headquarters to get involved again and hopefully fix the electronic brakes free of charge, or for a very small fee. We don't know if there are any other 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrids with over 100,000 miles but maybe if someone at Ford looks into this issue so we can avoid a tragedy. Maybe the software upgrade needs an additional upgrade now that the car is over 100,000 miles? the Ford customer relationship website responded to our inquiry today that there is basically nothing they can do for us, please consider looking into this as we need someone to help us. We personally have an urgency in getting this resolved as a family member that rides in the car is 4 months pregnant and her life and the new life are both at stake if something should happen in our car if the brakes fail again. In August 2013 I experienced complete brake failure on my 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid. As I was driving out of a parking lot my brakes failed, and all of my warning indicators on the electronic dashboard lit up. I was able to drive back into the parking lot and coast to full stop. The incident is exactly what was described by another owner who posted this description, which is exactly what happened to "while driving down the road the brakes suddenly hit the floor and there was no minimum resistance. " there was a customer satisfaction program initiated by Ford for the Ford Fusion Hybrid made on or before October 17, 2009. My Ford Fusion Hybrid was made in November 2009, which makes me believe the fix was not initiated on models made just after the csp! I have never experienced anything like this. I had to have my emc and hcu replaced. I bought the car new in January 2011, 2 1/2 years later I am having these issues, which I have never experienced with any other vehicle I have ever owned. I think Ford is aware of these issues, and are not recalling the vehicles that are still affected. I feel lucky I was able to get the car off the road safely without getting into an accident. This is a very dangerous situation. Prior to this happening, I had my car in for a different issue, and the service rep mentioned if something should happen to my brakes, it will be very expensive to fix, I now wonder if he was aware of this problem because others have also experienced this issue!.

On 1/1712013 I was driving back to my office in light traffic when suddenly I heard a ding and noticed red words appeared on my dash where the hybrid gauge normally is. It read brake system failure. I had it towed from my mechanic to the dealership mechanic. I was told it was the vacuum hose and had it repaired. On 2/15/2013, it happened again, twice. First time I was going about 30mph and made a hard right turn to a side street where once again pumping the brakes did nothing. I switched to neutral and coasted to a stop. After 10 minutes I decided to drive home and I would call the mechanics in the morning (they were already closed). En route to my house, which was 3 miles from the failure point, they failed again. Same message, same ding, same problem. No brake power of any sort. I flipped on my hazard lights on, switched to neutral, which did slightly slow the car down, and rolled down a bridge. I took the first hard right turn and was able to get slow enough to grab the emergency brake and turn off the car. It has been towed back to the dealership and I will talk to them, again, in the morning when they open.
