1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2022

While driving home just as I was switching lanes, the car sputtered badly and a wrench light appeared on dash. Since then, the car did not exceed 20 miles per hour. As I conducted research, a lot of Mustangs have this issue and it is theorized to be the throttle body.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2020

I was pulling out of work onto a busy street when car went into idle mode because of the throttle body drive by wire system. There was no indication anything was wrong or about to go wrong. God was really looking out for me on this particular day because the cars that were on this busy road wasn't in a hurry like they normally are and I avoided a (t-bone)collision. It really scared me and I haven't drove the car anymore and it's for sale. I thought it should be reported and I will tell whoever buys the car what happened upfront. I'm not willing to risk it doing the same thing again. I switched the key off and started the car back up and drove it 40 miles home without any problems and it will never be driven by me again.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2019

Engine goes to fuel throttle while driving on highway or in town & also when at a full stop on its own I have to either shut off ignition or if driving put vehicle in neutral then hit throttle to stop the high rpm extremely unsafe. Have not driven car in over two monthd.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2017

Mustang is stuck in limp mode. Can not rev engine above 5 miles per hour.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2016

My 05 v6 Mustang's instrument cluster is going out. The tactomiter stays at zero at all times and the speedomiter varies. At time my speedomiter acts normal then it will go bellow zero. My speedomiter will fix its self after 10 - 15 minutes of the car being turned off. I have noticed, on the internet, that many people have the same problem with my exact year model even if they have really low milage. I believe that Ford should recall and fix this problem because not being able to tell how fast you are going is quite the saftey hazard. I believe that the only reason why for hasnt recalled it yet, is because they charge $500 - $800 at the Ford dealership to get it fixed. Thanks for your time.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2016

The speedometer is erratic. Sometimes it shows I am driving 40 miles over the speed I am at and in idle it sometimes shows the speed needle below the zero. Sometimes it shows I am driving 20mph under what I think I'm driving at. Resulting in 4 tickets. I am paying over $500 to have Ford replace the cluster.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2015

When I shift from park or neutral position to drive, the car surges forward. This has happened both when the car is in driveway stationary and intermittently at a stoplight. The date below that is required is incorrect; it has been doing it since I got the car I believe in Feb 2005, but I didn't think of it being a safety issue until it was passed down to my daughter this year; for someone that isn't prepared, it could easily cause an accident.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2015

The instrument cluster located inside the vehicle stopped reading properly. At first I was not able to read my rpm's gauge as it was showing I was idling at 3,000 which was incorrect as I can hear my engine. Then my oil gauge began reading past full. Both of those issues fixed themselves (unsure of how or why) and then my speedometer gauge went bad. Now the needle is pointing straight down regardless of how fast or slow I am going. This is a danger to myself on the road as I cannot gauge my speed. This is an issue that others with the same model and year of my car are experiencing and should be fixed with a recall.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2014

The speedometer on my Ford saleen Mustang 2005 recently has stopped working properly, the needle on the speedometer sits on 10 mph when idling, when I accelerate the needle is off by 10 mph, this is a safety issue, not knowing how fast you are traveling. I have looked up if there are any recalls available through the web and have only found similar issues on forums.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2014

In heavy city traffic, stepped on gas to accelerate, car would not go. Kept giving gas would finally respond. Did this several times in one day. Next time we tried to drive it "engine safe mode" light came on and car would not accelerate at all. Through research and talking to others determined that it is the throttle body (drive by wire) a known problem with some Ford vehicles. Talked to the Ford dealer where we bought the car and the service person we spoke to told us it would be covered by Ford's extended warranty in response to csp 13n03. Took the car in today for appointment and they said it was not covered by that extended warranty and that consumer satisfaction program 13n03 did not pertain to a Mustang. Does not seem right to us that our car would not be covered when research has shown that Mustang's have had the same problem and the same "drive by wire" system. We are left being responsible for over $500 in costs for this repair.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2013

My speedometer was reading a lower speed than I was actually driving. It was confirmed with a speed radar sign. My speedometer gauge was off by 15 mph. I checked online and noticed there were many other owners with the same defect. I contacted Ford regarding the issue and they told me there wasn't any recall for my car. I did some more research and found out the steppers in the cluster gauge have been known to go bad.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

The speedometer gauge is stuck around 100 mph when the car is not moving. The gauge then moves from that point once the car is in motion.

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2013

On this day the oil temperature gauge stopped functioning correctly. In the following months the rpm gauge, the fuel level gauge, and speedometer have stopped functioning correctly and read the wrong information.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/25/2013

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that while driving at low speeds, the accelerator pedal became jammed. The contact attempted to apply the brakes but the vehicle continued to accelerate and crashed into a grate. The contact did not sustain any injuries. The police were not contacted. The vehicle was able to be driven from the crash site, but only at low speeds. The vehicle was later taken to an independent mechanic where the contact was awaiting an investigation of the failure. The manufacturer was contacted and offered no assistance. The failure and current mileage was approximately 70,000.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/19/2013

I was at a stop sign. . . While driving in first gear about to switch to second. . . The car rpm redline. . Everyone who has this car manual knows that this car chirps 2nd gear with or without tcs on. . . It was like power shifting without using the gas pedal. . The car was sideways. . Brakes wouldn't work. . Tried to get the car straight again but the car whipped around the other way and did a 180. . . Long story short. . . . Totaled!!!.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2013

Tl-the contact owns a 2005 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that while driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently reaching up to 115 mph. The contact would had to shift into neutral in order to slow down the vehicle. In addition, the brake pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to diagnose the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unavailable. Pam.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2012

My 16 yr old son was driving and the speed gauge started reading 90 then 60 then 100 also the temp gauge went into the red. He panicked that car was going to blow up and pulled off the highway at night to call to see what he should do. I find this to be very unsafe in both aspects of not knowing if the car could of caused an accident and also the fact of him being on the side of the highway at night. I have read of others having this same problem, this differently needs to be addressed before a major accident does happen. Ford should be ashamed of this and offer a correction on this problem.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

I was slowly turning into a parking space (cars on both sides and a car in front of me). I was in a parking lot traveling at idle speed. My foot was on the brake pedal. The engine suddenly began to run up. I immediately increased my pressure on the brake pedal. The engine was running so fast that the rear tires were burning rubber. I immediately put the car into park. My foot was still on the brake the engine was running at full speed. I shut off the ignition. The engine stopped. I waited a moment and then restarted the car without touching anything. My foot remained on the brake pedal. The car restated normally. This is the first time this happened. It has not recurred since the original incident on March 1.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/09/2012

The instrument gauges are not working properly. The speedometer will often stick at 0-20mph while it is well over that. The temperature gauge is also stuck on cold even when the car has been warmed up for quite some time.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/02/2012

The gauges on the 2005 Mustang are faulty. It affects all gauges but the speedometer being the most important. The speedometer may read higher or lower than the actual speed you're going. This makes it a definite safety issue if your car is going faster than you think it is. This should be a recall!!!.

21 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2011

During rain, the entire electrical system shut down. Radio, windows, headlights, taillights, turn signals, hazards, door locks, keyfob, fuel gauge, oil pressure, coolant temperature gauge, hand brake indicator, traction control system, brake switch (for taking car out of park), starter (once the car is turned off, it will not start again). Any substantial rain results in water pooling in passenger side foot area, and saturation of fuse box area, which provides concerns for a vehicle-wide loss of electrical power and brake/steering control. I have looked at several online owners' forums and there are numerous cases of this commonly-documented safety problem. I have had the vehicle in for this exact issue before and the problem could not be located (or reproduced)during rain, the entire electrical system shut down. 22 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2011

I have a 2005 Mustang gt that when temperature drops below 50 my speedometer will stay at different speeds when I am at 0. Sometimes 40 70 when I am stopped. When you turn off key restart car it will usually drop gauge 5 to 10 mph. I have been reading online of numerous gauge failures on this year model. Sometimes my gas gauge will not work properly.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2011

I'm writing to you about my 2005 Ford Mustang and the issue with it's instrument cluster. This is a widespread problem with this make and model of car, just search "2005 Mustang instrument cluster" on google and you'll see what I mean. Evidently the motors in these clusters, which operate your instrument dial needles, fail regularly. My car is a 2005, with 55,000 miles on it. Serviced regularly and well cared for. First, my tach started malfunctioning. I figured it was cold, and it only did it sporadically, so I lived with it. However, two months after the tach started acting up, the speedometer started malfunctioning as well. I did not feel it would be safe to ignore that. So I contacted my local Ford dealership, described the problem on the phone, and the first thing the service person said was "it's the instrument cluster most likely. $500-800 to repair. When I got home, I started researching, initially just to see if I could find the part cheaper. The google search I did pulled up entire forums dedicated to this problem. That's when I went from resigned to mad. Ford is putting the onus on the NHTSA to initiate a recall. And they said you won't do it if safety is not effected. Well I don't know about you, but me and I'm sure every state trooper on the planet, would consider a malfunctioning speedometer to be a safety issue. And with the economy as it is, and Ford charging $500-$800 to repair what they already know is a faulty system, a lot of people are not going to have it fixed. And take that 25 mph curve at 35 or 40 instead. That's not only going to be illegal. . . . It's also dangerous. We were advised on the forum to write both Ford and the NHTSA. I have now written both. Surely one of you will do the right thing.

24 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2011

My 05 Mustang gt is a standard and I was coming out of a construction zone in a town out onto a highway. I was going about 20 mph in the construction zone, and pressed on the accelerator to speed up. When I took my foot of the gas peddle to shift gears I noticed the peddle didn't come up with my foot, and that the car was still accelerating. At this time I went ahead and shifted into neutral, and was now going about 60 mph. I then tried to jam my foot under the gas peddle to lift it up. I'm not sure if me trying to get a little bit of my shoe under the peddle to lift it worked, or if it came back up on it's own. But it did come back up, and it only lasted a few seconds. But if coming to a stop sign or stop light this could be a very dangerous situation in a car with 300 hp. I have not talked to Ford garage about this problem yet. As it just happened less then an hour ago. Instead I looked up the issue on the internet, and found several people with this problem. Some of the complaints were about family members with this issue, because their incident resulted in death for that person. Several others have also stated that Ford garage was not able to replicate the problem, and did nothing to the vehicle.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/29/2011

I just visited an online Ford forum after being quoted $950 to repair my speedometer on my 2005 Ford Mustang. There are 4 pages of complaints detailing the same problem with the same vehicle. Perhaps Ford has avoided a recall by stating this does not effect safety or emissions. However, I got my first speeding ticket in over a decade 2 days after this problem began. Speed control does effect safety, and apparently, if gone without repair, the non-working speedometer effects the transmissions ability to shift properly, which is also a safety hazard. I do not have $950 to repair this problem, nor can I afford to pay the costs of speeding ticket fines, and the rise in my cost of auto insurance due to these fines. Please investigate this problem, as it appears to be a recurrent issue with this vehicle that Ford should take responsibility for.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2011

Speedometer at times sticks or shows the incorrect speed. Even sitting idle the speedometer will show 5 miles an hour or even 20 mph. It's extremely inconsistent, so determining the correct speed is difficult to do. The speed will display both, higher than actual speed and lower than actual speed without ryhme or reason. Additionally the needle moves in a sporadic behavior, like a second hand tic on a clock, rather than a smooth consistent flow. The tachometer appears to also be affected although it's much less noticeable.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2011

The speedometer, gas gauge and fueling guage on the instrument cluster has failed. Today the lighting behind the panel started to go out. This is a known common problem on the Mustang with several people reporting to Ford without any response to the public. We paid good money for these cars and this is a safty hazard. I cannot afford the 600+ quote, so I'm using a gps to guage my speed and I'm having to track my mileage so I know when to get gas. Ford needs to recall and fix before someone looses their life.

28 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

My fuel gauge on vehicle has quit working and says I have no gas when I have just filled up, the speedometer also goes erratic and says I'm going 120 when actually going much slower, the cold hot gauge either reads hot, regardless of if I just started the car or if its been running for an hour.

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/28/2011

As with many many other Ford Mustang owners know instrument guages fail. I have stopped driving my musteng because I received two speeding tickets about a month or two apart. . I was doing the sspeed limit accordiing to my dash but chp told me different. Did not believe or want to hear anything I said. I paid $900 for the first ticket and cant afford to pay another $900. 00 for the second one so they are not letting me renew my licsense which is required for the job I do. So I'm gonna lose my job on my birthday. Justice in America. . . This has ruined my life. . . No one will help me or listen to me and I'm tired of trying to get help. . . Someone needs to be held responsible for this so when I commit suicide after I'm let go from my job in two months what happened to me will not happen to anyone else. Please. . . Justice for all. .

30 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2011

Failure of instrument cluster and water leak in passenger side foot well. Speedometer non-functioning, fuel indicator non-functioning, and engine temperature gauge non-functioning. Provides serious safety hazard without knowing vehicle speed. Any substantial rain results in water pooling in passenger side foot area, and saturation of fuse box area, which provides concerns for a vehicle-wide loss of electrical power and brake/steering control. I have looked at several online owners' forums and there are numerous cases of this commonly-documented safety problem, but Ford motor company refuses to address it until NHTSA issues a recall. I have called fmc, and they refused to address the issue.

31 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/14/2011

Was driving the car and the gas gauge started acting weird. Stopped and filled up the car and after starting the car the gauge went all the way past 'e'. Shortly after that the speedometer started sticking. I could be at a stop light and it would show I was going 20 mph. Usually turning the car off and back on would get the speedometer to go down. The higher the speed said the more you had to turn it off and on since it only went down a little at a time. Now the gauge is stuck at 80 mph and doesn't move at all. The tachometer is also messing up now. It will vary from being too low to being too high to being just right.

32 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

Speedometer erratically displays wrong speed. When parked, the speedometer sometimes over 25 mph. While driving approximately 30 mph, the speedometer reads over 80 mph.

33 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2011

Cluster gauge on my 2005 Mustang is readin 70mph at all times. Even when the car is off.

34 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Mustang. While driving approximately 15 mph the vehicle accelerated on its own. The contact swerved the vehicle to avoid traffic and crashed into a building. The front passenger sustained a broken rib. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard. The vehicle was declared destroyed by the insurance company. The approximate failure mileage was 63,000.

35 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/18/2011

My Ford Mustang has now 32k miles on it purchased new and only one owner/driver. All of my instrument are no longer working or work erratically. I am having problems knowing what speed I am traveling, if there is gas in my car. I am a woman who does not like to get stranded on the highway and this is now a big fear. I cannot tell what my speed is and therefore am very leary driving unless with traffic so I can keep with them. It is apparent alot of others are also complaining about the same problem to the point it starts to cause transmission problems. Is there something we can do to get this up as a recall, what options do we have? I cannot afford to replace all clusters for 600-700 dollars and find out it is still having problems. Any suggestions?.
