1 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/03/2025

This has happened since purchasing my personal 2006 Mustang gt new in 2006. I also see early s-197 Mustangs (2005—2007) in my shop that cannot be reliably refilled because fuel shoots out of the filler neck, splashes the operator, the side of the Mustang, and puddles on the ground. The defective on-board refueling and vapor recovery (orvr) system causes high internal fuel tank pressures that will also cause the filling station pump to cut off and prevent putting fuel in the tank. This creates a fire hazard as the spillage contacts the left hot tail pipe and muffler as well as a puddle of fuel that can be ignited by a spark, cigarette, etc. This problem is in direct violation of the environmental protection agency emission standards that clearly state the operator is “expected to fill the fuel tank without spit back or spillage during the refueling event. ” epa emission regulations also require that service vents, also known as safety and vacuum relief valves, be installed in tanks to prevent excessive pressure or vacuum that can build up “due to tank filling or emptying. ” the parts of the Ford orvr system that contribute to the fuel tank pressure spikes and fuel spills include: 1. Poor fuel filler design. The filler pipe is narrow (5/8” to 3/4”) with a severe an s-bend before it reaches the tank. There is a spring-loaded plug at the top of tank built into the fill neck that closes the fill pipe until fuel pushes the plug down to open the fuel tank. 2. Poor fuel tank design. The saddle style tank has two sections that “saddle bag” over the drive shaft making the opening between the two tanks very narrow and at the top of the tank. 3. Insufficient tank venting system. The capacity of this vent system is not sufficient to vent the fuel tank during refueling. Please see attached file that documents the problem and possible solutions. I also recommend sharing your many complaints on this problem with the epa as the problem is also in their area.

2 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/07/2023

While driving the car goes into limp mode randomly causing the rpm’s to fall. There is no power to get off the road safely and has almost caused an accident numerous times. I have had diagnostics ran and the mechanic has no clue what’s causing this. Ford forums are full of these Mustangs doing this. It is a huge safely risk!!!!.

3 Other Fuel System problem

Tl-the contact owns a 2006 Ford Mustang. The contact stated that the fuel indicator lamp had been illuminated for two weeks. The vehicle started to loose acceleration. The contact had researched on line and came across a technical service bulletin 10019387 ( fuel system gasoline ), that described what happen when the vehicle failed. The contact also mentioned that the park brake cable freezing rear brakes dragging, this time the vehicle was taken to the dealer ( three times ) miracle Ford, 1394 nashville pke, gallatin, TN 37066 for repairs and one time to another dealer town and country Ford, 101 andersoin lane madison TN, 37115 for repairs on the brakes also. . The vehicle was not taken to the dealer ( this last time ) or an independent mechanic for a diagnostic. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired the approximate failure mileage was 174,000. Bp.

4 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 12/05/2016

The electronic throttle body and electronic throttle sensor were sending my car into "limp mode", and very nearly caused two accidents before I could have the issue diagnosed and repaired. The first instance of "limp mode" came while I was driving home on the freeway in commute traffic. It was warm, traffic was erratic stop-and-go, and I had the ac on. After a period of coasting at idle, traffic opened up; but when I tried to accelerate the car staggered and nearly stalled. I thought it was due to heat and the ac. The car then jerked forward before running smoothly again. The second time, I was on my way to work, again in freeway commute traffic. Traffic was at a stop for several minutes, and then I heard a news report that there were accidents ahead. I moved over to the 4th lane of 5, in preparation for exiting at the next off ramp. When I tried to pull out and speed up into that lane, the car again staggered and then stalled; I managed to re-start it and get moving again as a truck came racing towards me, with the driver hitting his brakes and horn. I barely avoided a crash.

5 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2016

While driving the 5 spd, taking off from stop sign there is a dead spot then it takes off irradically. Once on the interstate, I tried to slow down and footfeed stuck so I shifted down and pumped the footfeed/pedal that wasn't stuck. . The motor eventually slowed down to a manageable level. It has something wrong with the throttle pedal assembly sensor. Has others complained of this? it is a recall situation Ford is willing to take care of? I am the 3rd owner. The first two complained it was hard to take off on a hill. But that can be an inexperienced driver problem is why I bought it.

6 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2016

My car is surging even with the brake on or a lot of times if I'm in traffic it will completely die. Then it will start but when put in drive it continues to die. I have almost been hit several times. I have cleaned sensor and put new air filter on itu.

7 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2015

Takara airbags never deployed.

8 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 07/11/2015

Car started to stall while in motion, applied gas and was ok. At next stop light, the car stalled out. After trying to start a few times which it did but immediately stalled out. After sitting a few minutes, it started ok and was fine. Left car at dealer for 1 week, they could not find anything wrong. On 8/15/15, the wrench came on twice and then the engine check light stayed on. This was after a 215 mille drive on the interstate. Returned to dealer who now had computer codes. Electronic throttle body needed replacement. Part listed on bill says potentiometer Ford part#6l2z-9b989-d. This now explains subtle accelerations that occurred on highway when it was not me applying pressure to the gas pedal.

9 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

I was at a stop getting ready to merge with traffic when the car just died. I restarted the car but it ran real ruff I barely got off the road. I had to towe the car home it's the throttle -by-wire this system needs to be addressed before someone gets hurt. Thanks lee.

10 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2014

Car suddenly went into limp mode, no reason. Just started it up one day and it just did not want to move. No one knows how to get it out of the mode. Many mechanics have tried with no luck. Now a mechanic says I have a faulty computer. 3 years of it acting this way. . Computer diagnosis showed many things messed up, even after replacing all of those (and I am sure some were uneeded) the car is still in limp mode, has no power at all and has been basically down for 3 years. Beautiful lawn ornament but it being all I have left of my late husband, I'm not happy it just sits there. No mechanic wants to even touch it!.

11 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2014

I was stopped completely. The traffic light changed to green in the intersection. I pressed the accelerator and it went all the way to the floor and stayed there. I flew thru the intersection at top speed with the brake pushed as hard as I could with no deceleration at all. I traveled approximately 150 yards wide open. I stomped the gas pedal and tried to get it to release with no luck. I finally turned the ignition off and jumped a curb to get it stopped just before I would have rear-ended a vehicle in front of me. Flat spotted 2 brand new front tires. It was terrifying! it cost me $721. 32 to get the throttle body replaced. After I got home I google Ford acceleration problems and discovered there is a class action suit in 30 states against Ford for the same thing that happened to me. This problem needs to be corrected and I need a refund from Ford for the defective throttle body and 2 new tires.

12 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 02/21/2014

Car will not accept fuel. When trying to pump gas, it spills out all over the side and on me.

13 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2013

On August 13, 2013 at 1:45pm while driving to a car dealership in elgin, IL, my wife and I were driving north on rt59 which is a 45 mph zone. My pressed the accelerator pedal and the car started to sputter and hesitate. She pressed the pedal a little more and the car just took off by its self. Before we knew it, we were traveling at 70 mph though a large population area. My wife was terrified and tried pressing the brakes to the floor but they only slowed the car a little. I told my wife to tap the accelerator pedal to see if the speed would reduce. It only increased in speed. I told my wife to tap the pedal again. The car did not slow and she was still unable to slow the car with the brakes. I told my wife to press the pedal harder. The car lurched forward and then began to slow down. My told me last year that while she was driving the car that it did the exacted same thing, but I didn't understand what she was talking about until I experienced it myself. My wife was terrified and it scared the [xxx] out of me as well. The car is showing no check engine lights or service engine soon lights. This malfunction could cost someone their life and needs to be addressed. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

14 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2012

Three times in the past two years, with vehicle at a complete stop and with foot firmly on brake pedal, the engine accelerated rapidly to full throttle. Managed to keep vehicle under control and avoided other vehicles, but it is both scary and dangerous. On June 5, took to purchasing dealership (state college Ford, PA), but their service department could find nothing wrong. Service manager told us it was impossible for this to happen as there is a triple-check system to keep this from happening. He also told me that it was happening because I had my foot on the brake and the gas pedals at the same time. I have been driving for over 45 years, currently have four vehicles, and drove professionally for 25 years. I've never had this problem with any other vehicle. Asked the service manager if there was anything else they could do, they told me no. They took it for a couple test drives and it didn't happen. Please advise. We really like this car and don't want to get rid of it, but in its current condition it is not safe.

15 Other Fuel System problem

Failure Date: 05/05/2009

Hesitation in gas pedal/throttle body. When trying to pull out into traffic I would ease down on gas pedal with no reaction until about half throttle and the car would jump at about half throttle and I would then have to let off gas pedal and repeat process until up to speed of approximately 30 mph. After the first incident this became a re-occurring problem. Very dangerous situation. Everyone I talk to about this says it is a common problem with this model, 2005-2014 Ford Mustang. I have 3 of them and they all have the same problem.
