The contact stated that while driving at various speeds and making a turn, the steering wheel was stiff and the vehicle intermittently experienced a loss of power steering assist. No warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to restart the vehicle to correct the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the rack and pinion needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure.
