-the contact stated that the 2001 Ford Mustang passenger side seat belt didn't release. On January 1, 2007 the seat belt wouldn't come out of the holder. The contact never noticed this because no one ever sat on the passenger side of vehicle. The lap and shoulder belt could not be worn by anyone on passenger's side, it will not work. She also stated that the driver's side seat retractor only worked if one played with it. The driver's side belt will not retract into the holder on its own. The contact stated that the dealership has informed her that she will have to pay for any repairs for the seat belt. There was a recall 99v250000 on Ford Mustangs from 1999-2000 for seat belt failure she thought that the manufacturer should compensate the consumer in some way for the seat belt failures.

Seat belt on drivers side is very worn and fraying. It is fraying due to a plastic guide that is supposed to keep safety belt in place. I do not feel comfortable driving the car and feel if I were to be involved in an accident the seat belt would rip and cause me to be thrown forward with the impact.

The front seat & shoulder belts will not stay in the guides provided for them. It may be that in a frontal collision they will not function correctly. I have seen other Mustangs with a different style of guides. They look as if they might function correctly.

My seat belt (drivers side)does not retract real well you have to push it back into the side wall of the car. I have noticed that other VIN numbers have had a recall but not mine. I called Ford in michigan to ask them how to get a recall started and they told me that I can not. Then I asked them to fix my problem free of charge and they told me if I wanted it fixed that I would have to pay for it. I told them that it was a safty issue and that they should have to pay for it free of charge. Dt.
While stopped a traffic light another vehicle hit the rear of the consumer car at 30-40 mph, the drivers seat back broke and the seat belt released from the buckle causing the driver to slip under the steering wheel, the driver sustained severe strain to the neck and bruised right ankle and leg, the passenger also received a strained neck. Nlm.
Seat belt jams in guide over drivers shoulder by folding over and becomming too wide for the guide slot. This renders the seatbelt useless in a crash. Ford motor CO and dealer have ignored my requests to make the repair. It is very dangeroius.
I purchased the Ford Mustang cobra during July, 1997, and currently have 16,850 miles. The driver's side seat belt has worn at the poing where it retracts into the floor such that it may break at any time, especially in the event of an accident. Because of the wear location on this seatbelt, it would not normally be noticed by the driver. I was unaware of this unsafe belt until someone outside the car while the door was open, and while I had my seat belt fastened, pointed out this unsafe condition. I have notified Ford motor company customer assistance center by letter dated October 30, 2000, requesting guidance. Ford has not responded to my information and request for assistance.
