Driver's side front seat belt and passenger seat belt will not retract and locks up. It appears that the seat belt will not work in an emergency as required. This has happened numerous times.

The seat belts on my 2002 Mustang gt broke, this has been an ongoing problem as I've asked others about theirs. The ratchet mechanism stops working and / or the seat belts become entangled severely in the mechanism and fail to work anymore, resulting in replacing the ratcheting mechanism and seat belt. I brought my car to a Ford service center to see if they offered a fix and was told they do not and that my warranty was expired. This is a safety concern especially when so many Mustang owners have the same problem.

We have owned several different model years of Mustangs (2003, 1998, 1996 to be exact). For reasons unknown, the seat belts for the front bucket seats become twisted and do not secure a person properly in the seat. This has been a problem in all three of these vehicles. There has not been a specific incident related to this problem. However, if Ford does not research this ongoing concern, the seat belts will not properly restrain front seat occupants in these cars. Note: this program requires a date to be entered so I used today's date even though this does not reference a specific event. It is an ongoing problem.

I own a 2001 Ford Mustang and the front driver and passenger seat belts have been a problem for more than 3 years. They do not retract due to the cheap components used to keep them from twisting. This also causes them to be loose when wearing them. I have been to many message boards on Mustang websites and have found that many people have been having the same problem. I recently had a conversation with a local dealership service dept. Manager and was told that they had 2 Mustangs in that month for this repair. My car was beyond its manufacturers warranty. I was told it would cost $652 for parts and labor. Therefore I have decided not to pay to have it fixed and will continue to deal with this problem, fixing them to the best of what I can do to make them somewhat functional. My opinion is that this is an issue with this car that Ford needs to address but will not due to the fact that it is their #1 vehicle and recall costs would be to much.
The contact states the passenger's side seat belt does not work properly. The vehicle has not been to a dealership for repairs.
Drivers side seat belt gets twisted in wall, and does not retract properly as a result. Thoroughbred Ford untwisted, and then the seat belt twisted up again. Thoroughbred Ford states is under warranty, not defective, however state Ford refuses to replace unit as this is not a defect. Even refused after reminding them it does not function properly which could result in death during collision. First repair on or about 8-29-05, second attempt to have replaced approx. 2 weeks later.
The driver seat belt becomes stuck and does not fully retract. It also does not lock up when you brake quickly. The seat belt in the back seat is stuck and will not move or retract at all. It cannot be used at all, and therefore I cannot install the child car seat for my baby. There is an active recall for this problem for the 2000 Ford Mustang, but when I took the car to my local Ford dealership they said that my vehicle is not covered under this recall. They advised me that I would have to pay to have the seatbelts repaired.

The front seat belts malfunctioned, they will either not release from holster, or when released will not retract back into the holster without excessive force being applied. This caused the belts to fray at the edges. Dealership will not provide any remedy or cause for this problem. Seat belts started getting hard to pullout and would not roll back up .
