There is an apparent design flaw in 2005 Mustangs as I have read hundreds of similar complaints as to what I am experiencing. Due to this design flaw after a recent day of heavy rain 1 headlight and 1 signal light will not turn off once the car has been shut off. I researched and apparently the Smart junction box (sjb) got wet and the electrical unit is now malfunctioning. There was also a strong burning smell when I got home that night as well. Spoke with an online mechanic technician and he confirmed that the sjb needs to be replaced. There has been a long history of the car leaking on the passenger side whenever it rains due to the design flaw. Also my gas gauge never reads properly, inside lights are also dim/off and the check engine light has been going on and off for nearly a year and my mechanic could not diagnose why the reviews online said when they spoke to Ford that admitted that it was a known problem but because there has been no recall that they will not repair this for free. Estimates I read put the cost around $1000 to get this fixed and do not want to pay that kind of money especially when Ford admits to knowing there is a problem. I am hopeful that we can get Ford to do the right thing and issue a recall for this. It is a serious problem since the electrical system can cause a fire from reports I have read. This happened to meet on 12/21/18. I was driving home from work and parked the car and shut it off. As I locked the car I noticed that the drivers side headlight and passenger side signal light stayed on and I had to disconnect the battery to make them shut off. Also there was a strong burning odor when I lifted the hood.

Water leak issue coming from the windshield and cowl area leaking into the passenger side compartment shorting out the Smart junction box causing the gauges and all electrical to go haywire such as the headlight to go out while driving and the traction control to turn off as well as the windows and power locks to quit working and could cause an electrical fire inside the care if gone un noticed. I have the vehicle in the shop and this is going to cost me $600 or more due to Fords knowing of an issue they will not own up to fix to ensure safety.
I purchased a 1996 Ford Mustang from auto credit #3 in airway heights, washington. On 1/2/2011, I receive the vehicle and after three hours of driving, the driver side rear emergency brake locks up. This puts me into an uncontrolled 180 degree spin. On 1/3/2011, I take the vehicle to a les schwab tire center. I told the mechanic to check the brakes. After a few minutes of waiting, I am called into the work area, and I see the front passenger tire is clearly needing to be replaced, as it had the appearance of having been shredded. The same mechanic then tells me that both rear brakes must be replaced, as the emergency brake was frozen in the on position. While the work was being done, I managed to take a few pictures of the brake pads and rotors, but unfortunately, not of the tire in question. In addition, when I received the vehicle, the headlights would not stay lit, and would turn off and on at random. When I complained to the business on 1/5/2011 around 3:00 pm, they said they could not take the vehicle back as I signed a contract. What I signed was a loan agreement. Even when I told them that the vehicle was received in these conditions, they still did nothing. Finally, I told them to take a look at the vehicle and to tell me what was wrong with it the next day, referring to 1/6/2011.

Headlights are collecting moisture I can barejy see at night Ford manufacture says its my problem.
Passenger seat belt started sticking and being hard to pull out in 2005, I took it back to dealership they stated it was ok, I hardly used that passenger seatbelt because I usually drive alone. In 2009 it got stuck in the holder and I could not pull it out, at that point the Ford dealership wanted over $300. 00 to replace their already defected seatbealt. I checked junkyards in three different states and all the 2003 Ford Mustang passenger seatbelts was broken. My headlight cover is made of some sort of substandard plastic that fogged up and made it diffcult to see clearly and plus it causes my car to fails inspection. Ford dealership requested that I pay them over $600. 00 to replace headlights with more dected headlight. I call Ford headquarter to no avial. Headlights and seatbelt are very important tools for safety on the road and as long as the car manufacturer can get away with weighting the odds* with people lives we are all in danger!!!!! * analyzing if it is cheater to recall vehicles or to paid the lawsuits in the event of injuries or deaths.

Headlight lens is plastic and it has discolored to the point that the headlights will not pass safety inspection. The inspector said this is a common failure on plastic verses glass sealed beam headlamps.
1)head light covers become increasingly opaque 2)unable to see well while night driving because head lights do not illuminate well 3)need to replace light covers.
The plastic lens coverings for the headlights have discolored and turned milky in appearance. Proper illumination is no longer provided by the headlights. There is no way to clear up the problem. Multiple attempts using various cleaning or polishing agents have proven futile. This is an insidious problem, akin to having one's vision slowly get bad so you learn to live with it. The vehicle has only 66,000 miles on it, and the problem was apparent well before this mileage. Has not been replaced due to excessive cost of parts.

Consumer indicated that both plastic headlights had glazed over, almost opaque. It resulted in extremely reduced headlight visibility during the night, obstructing consumer's view while driving the vehicle. The consumer stated that the plastic on both headlights was so bad that it was impossible to see when the sun started to set.
Headlight plastic lenses have become very clouded and it would appear that the headlights emit less light and in a much more defused manner, so that the headlights are not as effective. It would appear that 4 years in the sun in texas has probably caused quite a few Ford products with these plastic headlight lenses (covers) to be in this condition.
Exterior headlights are inoperable. When turned on, high beam indicator is on, but headlights are not on. High beams are also inoperable.
While driving at any speed and with no warning headlights will fog up and will not be bright enough. It will be hard for consumer to see while driving. Dealer notified.
While driving and with no warning headlight lenses will fog up, and it will be hard for consumer to see during night hours, causing consumer to have visual problems while driving. Dealer notified.
Moisture is getting inside headlights, causing headlights to be dim. Contacted dealer.
2001 Ford Mustang headlight assembly seals failed. No address provided - no answer required. The front headlights were fogging with moisture. The headlight were replaced under warranty but the problem returned. The lenses were slowly developing a silver-grey film.
Consumer was driving & headlights went completely out & didn't come back on. When picked up from dealer it happened again. Dealer replaced the multiple function switch, wiring & the headlamps. So far it hasn't happened again.
When the headlights are on they could go off at anytime without warning. To turn them back on I either have to pull back on the "multi function switch" or turn on the left or right turn signal. Even after doing that the headlights will go off at anytime and as many times. The Ford service rep and the csaa rep indicated it could be a faulty "multi function switch". I purchased this vehicle recently from a personal friend who is the original owner. Also I had a 1994 Ford Mustang which had the faulty "multi function switch" replaced because the washer fluid was not spraying when it was turned on. It's just too much of a coincidence to have faulty "multi function switch" replaced. There should be more research done on the replacement of the "switch" to confirm that a "recall" is in order. Thank you.
The headlights work fine, but what I've notice along with my Mustang my, mother's Ford taurus as well, the housing for the headlights apperas to be extremely pitted making it difficult to see out of them at night. I've tried to use a plastic cleaning solution for them, one from 3m seemed to help clean the headlamps greatly and improved the conditions some, but I've notice that the headlights are getting expotentialy worse. I am going to go speak with Ford durring the week and look at other headlamps on the new Mustangs. But I am mainly curiouse as to weather or not other drivers have reported that their headlamps look like the have a film on them or are pitted making it difficult to see out of. (I use a certified car cleaning solution to wash the vehicles. It's made by tutle wax and is supposed to be safe for all finishes).
