Three problems related to parking brake linkage and cable have been reported for the 1996 Ford Ranger. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Emergency brakes have not failed, however the cable rubs against the sway bar bracket causing a hole in the cable housing.
Emergency brake cable being cut in two from being routed by top dust cover of shock absorber.
Design of the parking brake cable chafes against a suspension part on driver's side and shock absorber on the passenger's side causing damage, discovered before complete failure. Mjs.
