Spare Tire problems of the 1998 Ford Ranger

Three problems related to spare tire have been reported for the 1998 Ford Ranger. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Spare Tire problem

Failure Date: 02/16/2001

Driver side front tire just separated as I was traveling down the interstate. I nearly lost control of my vehicle. I feel that if traffic were heavier at the time I would have caused an accident because my vehicle swerved very abruptly when the tire blew. It was my spare tire that couldn't have had more than 3000 miles on it. I am very concerned with the rest of the tires on my truck. (dot number: w2hl1py138 tiresize: p235/75r15).

2 Spare Tire problem

Failure Date: 08/25/1999

The spare tire is a 15 inch tire while the regular tire size is 16 inches. This may result in a loss of control/crash.

3 Spare Tire problem

Spare tire given by Ford is p235 75 r15, this is the only size that will fit into the spare tire well, consumer currently has firestone wilderness p265 75 r15 and would not be able to put a spare on if needed due to the differences in size.
