Transmission went "bang" when I put it into reverse, after that, reverse didn't work. Ammco states the transmission is bad. I've been told for years now by other Ford truck owners that their transmission went out around 40,000 miles, mine died at 60,. Even Ford's sales people have asked me about the transmission. There is a history here of Ford transmissions self destroying.
Realized I had a transmission problem the first time while driving down interstate 95. The engine started revving very high and in panic I shifted down to neutral and then back into drive to get it back into gear. When I took my truck to get looked at, I ended up getting my transmission rebuilt. The mechanic said I had a defective built transmission. I had no idea that Ford had first started using 5 speed automatic transmissions in 1999, so the mechanic told me. I thought I bought a 4 speed transmission and that was what Ford said they sold me. The same thing happened again two years later in may 9, 2003, and again I had to get my transmission rebuilt. Do I have a legitimate complaint?.
The transmission developed a "slip" four months after veh purchase and was brought in for service on 28 dec00. The vehicle displayed the same malfunction on oct 15 2003 (3 months after warranty expiration)and was brought in for repair at the dealer at a cost of $1500. During dec2004 (13 months later)the vehicle again displayed the same malfunction and was brought to the dealership where they stated the previous repair warranty had expired the month before.
In cold weather vehicle has to be put in 4-wheel drive to start, otherwise, vehicle will not move. The consumer states this vehcile was unsafe to drive.
When shifting into first 3 gears gearshift pushes back first. Then, it goes in gear, and vehicle lurches forward. Consumer has taken vehicle to dealer 5 times. Dealer has replaced yoke and the synchronizer. However ,this did not remedy problem.

What is happening is, I bought the truck December 1998 service required in Jan 99 approx. They could not duplicate the problem they daid after repeated attempts by me to get them to let me show them and they did not comply. Then Ford questionaire people called me, and he said if the problem wasnt fixed to call back I no longer have the name or number but the truck went back again to the dealer. They said the second time there was nothing wrong. I just got through with an entire week and a half of arguing with them they once again said not a thing wrong, the service manager would not even give me the courtesy of talking to me. The mechanic took the truck after I said I was not leaving and put his foot on the brake put the truck in gear sk.
The automatic trans slips when cold while engaging in drive. The other day when I backed out of my driveway and put it in drive, transmission took over 10 seconds to engage. The truck continued backwards until I hit the brakes, and waited for the transmission to engage. This happens every time when it get's about 40 degrees and below.
Automatic transmission did not shift properly due to a faulty valve body gasket which was replaced.
To park vehicle emergency brake had to be engaged because the vehicle would not shift all the way into park. If the emergency brake was not used the vehicle would roll.
While driving transmission gave out in 3rd gear and lost overdrive. Took to dealer, and dealer indicated needed new transmission. Please add VIN.
